If yes, then here's the time to show your support. I've started a campaign in which I am requesting people to stop using Internet Explorer, I am sure that most of us know why we've got to do this...I know most of us are intelligent I think if anyone thinks the way I think..must take part in this campaign and must make other people aware about this...and help them to make a switch! Here's the link to the campaign - FLING IE Oh, come on! Are you really that passionate about browsers? As soon as Internet Explorer 7 is released, I'm dumping Firefox and switching back to IE! There is nothing wrong with using Internet Explorer! It's still a pretty decent browser, though lacking in features. In fact I think I'll register my support on spreadinternetexplorer.com just for the sake of it!
Tyssen 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2006 There is nothing wrong with using Internet Explorer!Except that it doesn't support all the W3C standards and that includes IE7.
xaetos 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 ..Honestly, if people want to bring misery and difficulty upon themselves by using IE, then thats their choice. Who am I, or you, for that matter, to tell them what is better? They'll figure it out on their own, eventually. And if they don't, what does it matter to you? jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 The part that matters to us is what Tyssen mentioned. IE5, IE6, and IE7 are all going to be non-compliant Browsers and it will only compound the difficulties that Web Designers have trying to make their sites work on the web. If the State or country you live in required you to drive in reverse on Tuesday and Wednesday of every week, would you like it? That's how knowledgeable web designers feel about IE. Like they are moving in reverse, back a decade to where every Browser had a differnt set of rules, so it was very difficult to design and code sites. Apparently IE7 is no different. They are refusing to use the standards which have been set for Browsers. Besides, Mr Gates doesn't need any more of my money. He must be getting close to having enough. Who am I, or you, for that matter, to tell them what is better? They'll figure it out on their own, eventually. And if they don't, what does it matter to you?I'm all for people having their own choice and not having others' preferences forced upon them and while I'm a fan of Firefox I'm also not the sort of person to actively support anti-IE campaigns. But to answer your question, one of the reasons why it should matter is because IE's failure to fall into line with every other browser maker and adhere to W3C standards is actually hampering the advancement of the Internet. And some people believe that they're actually doing it on purpose. Companies like Google are working on technologies that would see applications delivered over the Internet, with the eventual outcome being that you probably wouldn't need an operating system anymore which will obviously have a serious impact on Microsoft's core business. shigajet 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 As much as I'm a Firefox user myself, most people in the world use IE. As well, there are some sites that require IE and wouldn't work on other browswers.I'll gladly support the campaign for others to stop using IE, but it may still be a long way before everyone abolishes IE once and for all - especially with IE 7 / Windows Vista on the horizon. terminal2k 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 I would support an anti-IE campaign, people should speak out against things that don't work properly, don't follow the rules and are so insecure they have to release a bug fix patch every 5 minutes (ok maybe every 10 minutes ). People these days don't speak up when they receive a bad product or service, as a result, companies keep getting rich off sub-standard products
mayank 2 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 @ tt3 : I think the other responces have already given you my answer @ Tyssen, xaetos, jlhaslip, shigajet, terminal2k : That is why I've started this campaign!Well, my motive is to stop people from using IE...now the story is not that long...Why I jumped into this : Well, I was in techincal support of HP laptopts and almost every call we used to get was related to something like..popups, porn pictures and all spyware stuff....and the reason for that was that people used to visit all kind of rubbish websites using Internet explorer and due to that there computers got infected with spywares. So, I thought that there must be campagin which must stop people from using IE and then I got this idea from one of the website and thought that this a nice way and this way...more and more people will get aware of that fact! Now, coming to IE 7 : as Tyssen & jlhaslip have mentioned..that it also fails to support the standards and secondly..no matter...how secure Microsoft people will make it....there will be always a security hole and SPYWARE people will not hesitate to use that! The reason for that is that still IE is most used browser and SPYWARE makers actually target it!
nelarozi 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Internet explorer is too old to be of any use! In the next version uncle bill will copy firefox solutions and thats not ok! If you compare Firefox vs Internet explorer you will see that Firefox is much more faster, realible and it has pages within the one wingow . That why i recommend firefox to every one i know
mayank 2 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 well, it is good to see that most of us beleive this way that there is a different browser which is better than IE..But nelarozi, how can you say that Bill gates will copy solutions of Firefox? is there any source? One more thing...I'll like to thank jlhaslip for actually putting the code on his website and also letting me know a small bug in the code! Also, if anyone puts the code..or helps this campaign..in anyway..then please PM me or mail me and I'll be glad to put there website's link on my site! tt3 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 It's one thing not to like Internet Explorer. I don't use it at home myself, but to start a campaign against it? Wouldn't it be a better idea to start a campaign to improve Internet Explorer further?
mayank 2 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Well, tt3 I really appreciate your way of thinking of starting a campagin to improve IE..but you see there is a problem and that is there is not an easy way to develop the extensions for IE and due to that lots of programmers dont find it easy to make internet explorer better. It is upto microsoft who will actually do something to make it better! Now, what is the plus point Firefox is having an option to develop the extensions and by not supporting ActiveX..this way it is easy for young developers to actually develop the extensions and because firefox doesnt support ActiveX..there are less chances of having spyware in your computer
sm00nie 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 As a site developer I totally despise IE for their lack of following the W3C standards. I waste a lot of time making things compatible with IE (custom hacks, layout manipulations, etc..) just to make everything work as it should. All the while Opera, Mozilla, and Mac based browsers function flawlessly.I support the campaign.. Fling IE!!!
jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 smoonie: try IE/Mac 5.0 some time Mayank: I have the code inserted on a sample page that I wrote to reply to as member's topic about iframe inclusion on their web page. check this out So if I include the code on multiple pages of a site, will this image time-out after 20 seconds on each and every page? Or is it shown for 20 seconds only per web-site? Another (newbie) question: What happens if a user clicks on the same space as the image takes up on the layout after the image times-out?
