Show Credits On All Pages Not just the home page

Recommended Posts

I've always noticed that you could only view your credits by going to the home page of the forum, but didn't really think of having it anywhere else until now. My idea is to put the little hosting credits box on every page (maybe a slightly minimixed version of it, without all of the "if you aren't hosted..." info), so that we can save a pageload everytime we want to check how many credits we have.

Hmmm.. that might be helpful. Actually, I saw the "Check post length" button they have now when replying, and thought it'd be interesting if you could hit that and it'd tell you how many credits you were going to get for that post. The ideas are kind of similar.. actually, you could combine them, and let it pop up and show your current amount of credits, and how many you'd have after that post.. Maybe it'd save on bandwidth, eventually, if people didnt have to quit jumping to the main page. XD

Ya that could always help, but then people won't really take the time to read the whole thing explaining the hosting credits on the main page. It would be easier though. The check post length would be nice, but then someone might figure out the secret to OpaQue's madness :) It is a plus but it is also one more thing to make us lazier  Not much of a good thing but could be useful.

Trap17 is a busy board and displaying credits on every page means increasing the query count by one for all pages. Just to keep things resource friendly, credits are displayed only on main page.

Well I think the best idea would be to put it in the:

Look & Feel --> IPB Default Skin --> Edit Template HTML --> Topic View --> Render Row

And it would be displayed: Posted Image That would be nice, so we could everybodies credits and stuff, and its in a easy spot. Its like on all other point systems thats where you have stuff like that. So you could have it on the main page, and in the Topic View area. How does that sound? :)

That might be nice if it could only be displayed if that particular user is viewing the post. With SMFShop, it displays the amount of money a user has next to his name. But what I like, following on Maine's suggestion, is to have the amount of money displayed next to a post, only displayed on his post, and only when he is viewing the topic, meaning that nobody else can view his crdits from the forum itself.

subsequent suggestions after Opaque's reply will still harness extra database queries for every page. :)

my personal "ONE CLICK" solution? keep a bookmark on my browser for the Xisto forum index page where i can view my hosting credits with just one click. :) the simplest solutions are the best for me. :) it serves my purpose and works well, since i don't need to check on hosting credits every single page. Latest idea: how about a thing somewhere in My Assistant that shos the credits? Make it AJAX based, so that there are no extra pageloads for it. It would reduce the number of database hits, since we wouldn't be loading the whole index page to view the credits, just the one query for the credits.

At IPB gaming we've toyed with displaying certain balances on every page. For instance, we displayed members' casino money balance at the top of each page. See the 'my controls' link at the top of the page. Well, to the left of that, the balance would be displayed. We had that running for awhile until somehow it started creating a few problems for us, so we took it off. Overall this is a good suggestion but as you can see OpaQue has already expressed his opinion on this issue. I'm sure the thought popped up in his mind well before this topic was ever created, and I feel the way it is found now is completely acceptible and legitimate.

actually i dont mind having to go and check credits after making a post , but sure it would be nice if we could have credits displayed on each page ,then again as opaque has pointed out this is a big board so i guess it's not much of a matter , even if credits can be displayed in my assistant ,it too goes to a new page when clicked on a link such as my last 10 posts so why not just go home and check it , i guess it is the same that way
