Christmas Is Jesus Birthday Christmas is Jesus Birthday

Recommended Posts

1. Today is the Christmas according to the western calender. Let us not forget that Christmas is Jesus birthday and not St Nicholas feast which cerebrated in Western Europe , Greece, Russia on his departure day on 6th of December [ see my postings to this forum St. Nicholas]:

11. St. Nicholas' feast day, December 6th that widely celebrated in Europe, kept alive the stories of his goodness and generosity. December 6th is still the main day for gift giving and merry making in much of Europe. "....

In recent years, Christmas (along with Santa Claus) has been pushed by shopkeepers as another present-giving festival, with some success, although, especially for young children in Europe, Saint Nicholas' eve is still much more important than Christmas."

2. In my posting to this forum "The evolution of Santa ", has shown that the modern Santa Claus has been shaped by many factors and is with myths and legends. It is absolutely inaccurate to claim that "Santa Claus is St. Nicholas." Though it is true that the historical St. Nicholas of Myra (AD 350) has been one of the most beloved saints but the modern Santa Claus has nothing to do with Nicholas of Myra, other than his name and gift giving.

3. Christians would have no major problem with about St. Nicholas bringing gifts on his own day. Christians do (or at least should) have a major problem with moving the St. Nicholas thing to Christmas and, even worse, calling it Christmas!. Christians are rightly offended when the Santa Claus fairy tale is called Christmas instead. The practical solution would be to move the Santa Claus celebration back to its traditional date of Dec. 6. Taking Santa out of Christmas has many benefits. There can be a greater focus on the real celebration, the birth of Christ.Just my opinion...

4. So Merry Christmas to the Christians and Muslim too. Islam acknowledges Jesus and considered him a great profit.and recognizes his miracles and the virgin birth of him [see my posting to this forum " We believe in the same one God". Coptic Christian in Egypt celebrate Christmas on the 7th of January and the state make it holiday for all. In Australia where I am now, we celebrate it twice on 25 December for the kids and on the 7th of January too.

officially it does but some people believe that he was born in the spring time and the shepards are the clue from what I watch on the history channel, they said that it would have been to cold for the shepards to hear sheep in december.Of course HC birthday was a way to convert pagen holidays as well.

That is correct SM. He was likely born sometime in the spring or early fall since that is when the flocks are taken out to the pastures to graze. But that is besides the point. Chrsitmas is still celebrated as a great time for remembering God and His love and should still be. Even if it wasn't Christ's real birthday.Nice post though, well researched and I am all for that. Merry Christmas every one and remember what Christmas is about, giving, not receiving, and about God and His love and great sacrifice for us :D

Saint_Michael, Do you forget the events took place in Bethlehm of Palestine 2000 years ago. Ask me who lived and worked in middle east (Egypt, Algeria) about the weather there . The weather in December is in average 15"c / 59"F and you can walk in sweater. It is called winter relative to the summer where the degree 41"c/106"F. Morever the Sheaperd have to work anyway for living . It is their life. Sheep has to eat and go out daily too. Wasn't the modern farm . Wasn't the high standard of living and the work conditions as it is now.

Dawiss, is better to keep these feeling to yourself or to initiate another thread. Here the subject is what is Christmas and why people round the world celebrate it. They congratulate each other and wish the best for each other. My friend for other religion congratulate me whetever they believe in Jesus or not. Doesn't matter you care or not. It is not Poll and I didn't ask whetever you believe or not. Jesus is historical figure and influenced bilions of peoples and for 2000 years anti-christ didn't succed to eliminate his name.

When I was in Leningrad (St Peters-burg now) in Russia 30 years ago, the state then to took the attraction young people (your parents generation), out of the churches in the Easter Night mass, they opened the Movies (kino) all the night till the morning and showed attracting films there. People like your parents have the impression (may be missunderstanding) that the religion is as crime and it is better to hide their belief from the state or the communist party. So your Grandparents were who took grandchildren and baptized them when they were babies.

I don't forget the girl who had kissed my shoes (this is not exaggeration ) that because I took her to the mass since the places were limited and I could go as foreigner and I took her with me. But were thousand of young people outside and in the street.

Nowadays when they said that you are enjoying the freedom of religion, you say that. By the way to be believer doesnt mean you "pray all the time". God help you.

For your benefit in English language as second or third language [don't be offended] correct yourself in the following [i like to help]:

"tryed" to be "tried "

"thous" thing to be "these things".

December 25 being celebrated is something left over from the Roman holiday of Saturnalia. The Christians said that the 25th was the birth of Jesus because Saturnalia was a very popular, late-December holiday, and it would be much easier to make the celebration into something Christian than to get rid of it all together.

It goes to show how materialistic and greeedy modern society is. We turnthe birth of Christ, one of the most important Christian holidays, and turn it into a reason for sales, recieving presents (and giving, but you still recieve), and lies about Santa. How did we manage to turn a saint into a fat, bearded, old guy who rides a magic sleigh powered by flying reindeer that travels arounfd the world stopping at almost every house and going down the chimney to give presents to kids. We stray away from the religious meaning and use Christmas trees and reindeer and santa hats to symolize the birth of Christ instead. It's really quite sad, even maybe apalling.

1. It is first time, I heard that fantasy. This like saying the Egyptian or American day of revolution is in July like the French day of Revolution.

2. What if I told you that the Christmas was in January before applying the Georgian Calendar. We the Coptic Christian in Egypt, Syria , and all Arabic Orthodox Christian with the most Christian in Russia, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria are celebrating the Christmas on 7th of January according to the Julian Calendar, thirteen days after Western Christmas. It will be on the 8th January in 2100.

3. Only since about 400 AD, Christians have celebrated the birth of Jesus. The concentration was on the Resurrection. All saints feast is on their departure day not on their birthday.

4. I don't know the reasons behind the argument for the Christian feasts date,. I never heard any argument on the Jewish feasts [ Hanukkah., Passover, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashana and others.] even though they have been celebrated these day even before Christ. The same I never heard any argument on the Islamic , Indian or Chinese feasts. By the way, in case you didn't know, Hebrews people are started celebration of Hanukkah.on the same day of the Christmas. For the first time since 1959, the eight-day celebration of Hanukkah begins Sunday evening, which was the Christmas.

5. Then when you celebrate a feast, you try to put what brings joice and this depends on your culture, civilization, tradition. So don't call it pagan symbols. For examples in Egypt where the christian have been fasting before the Christmas for long period [43 days] and their food are vegetarian [no meeat, no milk, no eggs, no butter,...] then it is normall that they prepare many different kinds of meat . Also they prepare cakes and different types of biscuits to themselves and for neighbors and visitors.

6. In Russia, Finland, Sweden and other Scandinavians in frozen winter there are no flowers or any green plant except that Yolk trees they used it in decoration.in their celebration and it is called it Christmas tree". So don't wonder that this tree are used intensively. And then peoples started to decorate it by light and other things from the 18 century [see :

http://www.rumela.com/events/christmas_tree.htm ]

7. But whetever the Christmas is on 25 December or 7th January or other, the point what we have not forget is the "Christmas" is Christ Birthday or Jesus Birthday. The the word "Christmas" is of an ancient Egyptian origin. Where this word is consisting of two parts: Christ & mas; Christ is the messia and mas is an ancient Egyptian word means: to be born or Birth.

Christmas is not Jesus' Birthday, as no one knows the exact birth date. People just use Christmas as a date to celebrate the birth of Jesus, but it's not his birthday. :D I don't know how Dan Brown got involved in this, but people who think he's an evil man trying to convert people from Christianity, he's not and he isn't. If you actually read Da Vinci Code, you would see there is nothing wrong with it. Well, I see nothing wrong with it. It's just telling us some historical facts. It may be true, it may not.. who knows?

I believe that Jesus was born in bethlehem on the 25th of December and whether you know it you have been celebrating his birthday in some way because all give presents to each other (the exchange of gifts from the 3 wise men) and you all celebrate it and it is one of the worlds biggest celebrated day.

1. My thread topic is "Christmas is Jesus Birthday" and was not "25 December is Jesus Birthday". And I mean that we have to rember that and don't be confused with Santa Clause who is artificial american character used the name and loving gifting of St Nicholas. Also I showed that St Nicholas feast is on the 8 December but comercial people for their benefit pushed it to reach the 25 December.

2. I personally as Copt [ the original people of Egypt] celebrate it on 7th of January as our church using the old calendar. The same for Russian, Serb and most of Orthodoz Churches. As I am Australian now since 18 years , I celebrate it twice as I celebrate it on 25 December too for my kids as their peers Australian do.

3. Whetever the Christmas is on 7th January or 25 December, it will not from these two dates depending on the calanders and calculation of an event happened 2000 years ago. I said that because there are continuation from generation to generation so we have received these informatiopn from our ancestors and the written history. It is not a matter of jump in one day. In our Coptic Church calander there are for every day an event or saint in that day e.g, st Barbara, St Chathrine, St Peter,.....

4. Da Vinci Code book is fiction and not facts. Many books or films using particular events and expand it to be fiction otherwise they be accused with copy and paste. Some hides contradicted facts to confuse people for evil attempt to destroy the origin. It is contious attempt from anti-Christ but as they failed to do their objective for 2000 year will not succed now too.

During the time jesus was born, the shepards were relaxing in the feilds with the livestock out grazing.

This relates to the area of march, i know a many familys that celebrate christmas in march instead of the traditional 25th of december, for 2 reasons

The estimatied truth of his birth day, and it releases the comong representation of all the seling of goods and taking it away from the true message of gods birth and his life
