biscuitrat 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2005 Two templates in two days - my new record! Both of them are valid XHTML and CSS and they're both experiments with styles, styles that I haven't truly properly grasped yet. First, there's "Words". You can read more of a description of it on the site, but it's a grunge template, semi emotional. I think it's my best yet simply because of how it's organized. Works on IE and Firefox - not sure about Opera. Download it here! Then, there's my shabby "Avant-garde" in an attempt to bring a lively purple template to base. Again, it's experimental, but this one has no emotional semblance. Works on IE and Firefox (slight weird quirk on IE forces the menu to the right side, because that's what's written in the CSS - ah well!) - not sure about Opera. Download it here! Both of these templates are available for download but I haven't done as much work as far as accessibility goes for Avant-garde. Comments, words of insight, horrible nasty atrocious "you suck!" remarks tolerated. I'm open to anything.
truefusion 3 Report post Posted September 13, 2005 Nice layouts. Usually if it works for IE it'll work for Opera. But, the second layout could have used more GIFs than JPGs. Took a while to download, even for me...
biscuitrat 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2005 Hehe, yeah, I went overboard on images for the second one. They both seem to load instantaneously (and that's saying something, since my internet is usually oogly) but I'll go back and make them .gifs if other people have the same trouble that you have. What's the point of having a template if it never loads? :PThanks though
Tyssen 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2005 But, the second layout could have used more GIFs than JPGs. Took a while to download, even for me...That's funny: the 1st one loaded way slower than the 2nd for me. Both are quite good, but the background image of Words makes the text too hard to read. I'd also personally have the headers a bit bigger especially if it's the major heading on the page. And you might want to consider using lists to present your links as it's a more semantically-correct way of doing so.
biscuitrat 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2005 True, I removed that almost by accident before doing each new layout. I guess I can always revamp them with lists. And I dunno, I've done a few big header images. The small ones seem to be kind of quaint to the design. It focuses more attention on the content of the page. But my friend will be happy that you agreed with her on the fact of the background. I surveyed a few of my friends before I put it up and 1/3 said it was blurry. I can always lower the opacity. PSDs are a godsend. And yeah, since the size of the images are concerning some of you guys, it'll be no problem saving them as .gifs.Thanks, Ty
Static_Fury 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 I love the first one....I am using it for a new blog....Untill i finish my css experince and make my own ...I realy realy like it, i just dont know how to put it into words.
thablkpanda 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 The second one I like better, I'm speaking like yoda, but I like the way you've got the sidebar floating. I also like the color scheme, it's a nice change from my drab, grey, white, black. I plan to steal the float idea though, Hope you don't mind. I'll make my own background though, maybe merge something like that into wordpress.Panda
biscuitrat 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 No worries! I don't mind if you take the code, Panda - that's how I started out learning too. It's like a crutch. And Static, I'd love to see your site if you could PM me or whatever. If you need any help, don't be afraid to ask - I'll shell out new ones for blogs when I can work my coding better
thablkpanda 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Thx Biskie, I can't stand CSS, If it were up to me- the whole internet would be black and white pages, and people would put their time into complicating them with PHP, like I do :ph34r:Thanks again,Panda
jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Both are very nicely arranged and each will have their place. I'll download and inspect them more critically later. Probably learn a thing or two... You must be happy with the reviews.
biscuitrat 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 Thank you I'm very happy with the reviews. I didn't think they looked that great to me, but I still felt some pride in making them. I guess I just have a lot of work to do to make the templates more accessible, but I should start on my own site first if I need to.If you could inspect them more critically, I'd be extremely happy. I know that I have to make my navigation using lists if I want to agree with web-standards, but if you can diagnose any other problems (slow loading times, misplaced tags, etc) and let me know, I would probably cheer extremely loudly and then get to work. I know that whenever I self edit my work, mainly my writing and drawings, I either trash it or I mess it up somehow. Feedback is definitely my friend
vitrus 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2005 Very original designs biscuitrat! I like the fact that I can't really see how the table's or divs are done... Not to squarish (most sites do have that feeling)...Ow and fixing it in valid xHTML simply r0x
