iGuest 3 Report post Posted April 22, 2009 re the best free osWhat Is The Best Free OsI think linux is the best not becouse its more secure than windows though it is not becouse its more reliable than windows though it is not becouse its free wich it is but becouse of the freedom , you can install a bare bones system and chose only what you whant to add , you can go for the kitchen sink distro where every thing under the sun is there already or some where inbetween the two you can run a source based distro like gentoo or a binary based distro like debian there are thousaands of difrent flavers of linux to chose from so you can have exactly what you want or need your not locked into anything for me debian is the right thing I can install a bare bones sysem and add what I like or if I feel like it I can install the whole shibang thats why I feel linux is the best os on top of all that its functional not just for server but also for desktop use -reply by paptwilight

iGuest 3 Report post Posted August 26, 2009 Best LITE FREE, Open Source OSWhat Is The Best Free OsNot one of you suggested a peek at http://www.linuxchix.org/ http://www.linux.org/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or http://livecdlist.com/(live CDroms database, so you can do a search for what you want.) 315 Live CDrom OSes! My recomendation is any of these small distros, under 50 MB, so, as they are LiveCD and/or USB versions, get, and play, them ALL! Why install? These boot, and run, fast! Puppy Linux 4.2 is what I give away to folks who want a quick loading OS. 69MB. Browser Puppy Linux is an OS that loads LIVE, and runs only BROWSERS! BOOTS FAST! Quite small, under 50MB DSL - DamnSmallLinux, is a full OS in a live image of 49MB. Wondering why, actually, you didn't ask this question on any of the Linux Forums, so real Linux users would have a chance to help you! http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/and search google, and look at linux.Org and linuxchix.Org Remember, Linux runs on the 15,000 Microsoft Akamai leased Linux servers, and all 400 internal corporate Linux firewalls! What is neat, and best in Linux? 1. Absolutely immune to the million Microsoft virus/worms/exploits! 2. Concurrent parallel processing multi user system, with multiple desktop environments, and window switching to any one of dozens (up to 1024?) of virtual desktops, instantly! 3. 28,000 FREE open source programs available for instant DL! 4. Personal control of all data, without worry that some WGA name server might crash, and shut down your entire system (Labor day/week WGA crash that took down 22 million+ Windows systems)! 5. Total freedom to create your own reality, without fear of reprisals or penalties from corporate lawyer scum... 6. Linux does NOT "eat your homework"! 1001 more reasons in google, and, at Annoyances.Org ! Best to ya! -reply by Linuxiac38
