Hey all, Just thought I would stop by the forum first thing to say sorry for missing you all for such an extended period of time. It wasn't an intentional move to say the least. I had to take my computer offline for a while and reset the entire system because a freakin' worm got ahold of our computer somehow. That's a real pain in the butt, and tedious work reinstalling everything. There's a little bit of silver lining to this predicament! Since I was working on my computer anyhow, we ended getting a new hard drive with 160gb of space along with the original hard drive that already had 40gb space. So, I don't think I'll be running out of space anytime soon. :PNow I just have to work on getting my hosting credits up to snuff again. But that shouldn't take too long considering I love to talk in these forums anyway. So, I'll be sure to chat more.Later.

Is This Illegal? Music and Internet
ArcaneSpirit replied to fsastraps's topic in Websites and Web Designing
This is an intriguing question... It's also a very common one with webmasters. As far as I know and/or believe, you cannot offer DOWNLOADABLE music from your site that is copyright protected, that law doesn't state that you don't have a right to offer it for listening pleasure. I look at it this way; If you can hear the song on the radio, which is free to everyone so they can hear new music, it's most likely not illegal to offer for listening on a website, as long as you aren't making a profit from your site. If your site is commercial and you are using an artists song, they have a right to a percentage of the money you bring in as long as you use their song. But I imagine that whatever song you choose to upload to the server is legal to offer for listening pleasure on a non-profit website as long as you aren't offering it for download. If someone figures away around your security protection of a song, they're doing something illegal and not you. But that doesn't mean you can't be held accountable for the theft of the music from your site. Also, depending on how you are planning to share music with your visitors, I would suggest using some form of online player. It's quite annoying to go to a site that automatically starts playing music. Especially if you are already listening to music on your computer. Later, A P.S. I may be incorrect about the legality of what I mentioned above, as I said, this information is as good as I know and/or believe. Which doesn't make it true, so it's kinda chancey either way... -
I personally don't get why everyone is attacking Internet Explorer, it's still one of the most popular web browsers according to online statistics. As far as security problems go, Microsoft has been updating IE 6 with security fixes for a while and are planning to release IE7 sometime in the near future, which is supposed to be packed with features. As for Web Standards, as it was pointed out earlier, Internet Explorer meets W3C standards, but there are a few things that I would suggest Microsoft get in gear with, like supporting PNG Transparency?! It annoys me without end that I can create and awesome looking graphic and save it as PNG file just to have IE users unable to view it properly because IE doesn't support the transparency feature that using PNG is so commonly used for...Grrr! I'm hoping that this is fixed with the release of IE7... That would be my only reason to say that IE needs an update. Later, A

According to this test, I'm below the average of my age range, but whatever I do career wise I will succeed in because apparently I'm well rounded in the knowledge department. Knowing enough about various subjects to go on in many subjects without sounding like a complete idiot, apparently. But, I never take these tests to heart. As was mentioned already, I believe only a certified professional that costs a lot of money would accurately be able to tell me what my IQ is. So, it's nice to know what these people think of my intelligence, but I can wait forever for the accurate answer, because your intelligence does not dictate your ability to do and/or learn something. Timing is the only real difference.. Given enough time and education, everyone could be considered a genius, I believe... Later, A.

Well, for starters, I love all genres of music, I just prefer some genres more than others. I listen to all of them though, just not equally as much. My top prefered genres would have to be Adult Contemporary/Easy Listening, Glam Rock, and Alternative Rock. My least prefered genres would deffinately have to be Country, Heavy Metal, and Rap & Hip Hop. I like to listen to them on occasion, but in general I usually find something far better to listen to. Reason For Trap17's Slow Loading? Anyone else have this?
ArcaneSpirit replied to Cain's topic in General Discussion
I'm not exactly sure how fast our actual internet speed is, we use Qwest DSL. I would think that our connection is pretty fast as Xisto is the only site so far (knock on wood) that has been loading fairly slow. It probably does have something to do with the new skin. The more graphics a site has on it, the slower it loads. I liked the original skin anyhow, but if they want this one, I really don't have too much of a problem waiting a few more seconds. I remember having a 56k modem connection, so this load time is quick compared to that connection speed. I could never handle coming to this site using a 56k. It would drive me completely insane. I'm sure the Admin is on it though. Probably still trying to locate the problem... -
My Newest Sig Labyrinthian Theme
ArcaneSpirit replied to ArcaneSpirit's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I'm unsure what, exactly, you are talking about. I'm getting something about a straight line on the left side of my sig? I don't see a straight line, or at least I'm not seeing what you see. Well, obviously. Why else would I be asking what you are talking about... Anyhow, as I mentioned before. The border is supposed to look exactly the way it does now. Smoothing it out would take away the look I wanted it to have. They are jagged like that because the corners are supposed to resemble arrows. If I smoothed it out, they wouldn't look that way anymore. Later, A -
I Have Less Credits That I Should Why its that so
ArcaneSpirit replied to sader's topic in Web Hosting Support
I found out the reason I was unable to logon to my Cpanel and FTP connection. My account had been suspended temporarily, because I did run out of credits. I didn't realize that my credits reset after activating my hosting, so I thought I would have at least 2 days to work on setting up my website without having to post and still have 8 credits left after the 2 days.. My bad..lol I just wanted to know what happened at the time. I have gotten my hosting back, that same day in fact, and I will deffinately be sure to post at the very least two posts a day. If they are both good and lengthy, without being pointless babble, I should be able to keep a stable increase in my credits. Thanks again for the help, A -
My Newest Sig Labyrinthian Theme
ArcaneSpirit replied to ArcaneSpirit's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Thanks for the re-review of the second sig. I actually like doing this, I might have to create graphics more often and just show them off, give them away, or both. Thanks again for the suggestions and compliments, A -
What are three of my favorite movies and whay? Well, I could probably give you much more than that, but I'll try to narrow the list to three for ya... Phantom of the Opera (1987 - Robert Englund) - I have always loved this version of "Phantom of the Opera" not only because it can make you jump in your seat (at least it used to, before I watched it so many times that I can tell you what is going to happen in the next scene), but also because of some of the awesome music and costumes used. Besides, who could pull off the phantom better than Robert Englund? He played Freddy after all... Bram Stoker's Dracula - I don't think anyone has made a better version of this or ever will. This version has an all-star cast, a rich story-line, and it keeps your attention through out the entire movie. I especially like how much more descriptive they are in this movie versus other Dracula movies you can find anymore. Pride & Prejudice (w/ Colin Firth) - Being that I am a big `Period Piece' fan, it's no wonder I love this movie. Granted, most people couldn't and probably wouldn't sit through the length of this version of Pride & Prejudice, but I haven't found another that follows so closely to the book that you can practically follow along. I especially like Colin Firth playing Mr. Darcy. He was the perfect person for this part... Alright, you have my most favored three movies... I never realized, until doing this, how many movies I actually have on my favorite movies list. May I never have to do this again...lol

I Have Less Credits That I Should Why its that so
ArcaneSpirit replied to sader's topic in Web Hosting Support
Hold on a sec. Let me see if I got this right. After requesting and being granted hosting, all of the credits you might have still had are reset to 2.00 credits? Cause I was able to get hosting for package 1 the day before yesterday and when I was trying to login through my FTP program, it wouldn't log me in. Figuring I might have typed something wrong, I retyped everything. It still didn't seem to want to work for me. This time, I get on my browser and head to my cpanel, again it refuses to let me login... How fast, after gaining hosting, do our credits depleat? 1 credit a day? I'm guessing this because next to the total number of credits you have it states `Days'. Is that how it works? -
Argh, Choose Please.. between 4 possible layouts -_-
ArcaneSpirit replied to HmmZ's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Granted, I'm still kinda new here and I am not sure how many times you have created different templates for your website and asked opinions on it. But I couldn't imagine why it would really matter what everyone else thinks... It's your site, right? After all is said and done, you are really the one left to make the decision. You just had more input into which one pleased the majority more. I say if you don't like your own design, scrap it! Getting suggestions for improvement is great, but asking what you should use as a template for your own website is a little fruitless. Don't ya think? Later A -
A very intriguing combination of colours. Personally, I wouldn't have used those shades of blue and yellow. You could use them together, because their both primary colours, but you have to use them as accents, not a full blown colour scheme. Other than the colours, I like the actual layout of your website. It's simple, clean, easy to navigate, and it works for your sites content. Overall: 6/10

I really like it. It's not "over the top," but still catches your eye. A few changes I would suggest; change the reflection and blend it into the background a bit (giving it a fading with distance look) and maybe make the text contrast the background a little more than it does currently. Overall: 9.5/10 Great job! Later, A
