The W3schools is my favorite CSS learning resource, however it is extremely simple, so I can teach you the basics. First of all I recommend that you link to a stylesheet on your website, this saves you lots of time, to link to a stylesheet use this code: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="stylesheetname.css" />Now to work on that stylesheet, CSS has an extremely simple syntax: selector {property: value}The selector is the name of that part of the stylesheet for instance, body. The property is what attribute you want to change, and the value is how you change it, for example: body {color: #CCCCCC}What I just did was make the body font color grey. Link the stylesheet to the HTML document, as shown above, and the font color will be grey, unless otherwise specified. You can view a full tutorial on CSS at my website's HTML tutorial section http://www.webmasterforum.buildtolearn.net/index/htmltutorials.html also.

Well, I was never a splash page fan, but I suggest you make the logo bigger, make an enter site button/text, and give your visitors a reason for them to click that enter site button. Great graphic though, I really like the font(s) and background.

I got a book out of the library, looked at it for about 20 minutes, memorized a few tags, got bored, and made a website in HTML, although I admit it was a disgrace, I liked the marqee tag a bit too much...The only way to learn is trial and error, I keep making better and better websites as I go on, also a tip for future webmasters, use Cascading Style Sheets (known as CSS), they ROCK. They are very easy to make, and save you hours of time. PS- I also used the http://www.w3schools.com/ whenever in doubt.

Your post made me sick. Longhorn has been developing for a number of years, costing Microsoft billions. Why would Microsoft possibly want to ruin it all? Just about every OS before Longhorn had the same articles before it was released, except for maybe Windows 1.0 -3.0 (no one cared about computers). Microsoft is the most successful company the world has ever seen. Also we must remember that Bill Gates is a fully qualified nerd, he has a really bad sense of humor. Since obviously you release that no man in is right mind would publicly announce that their OS would have terrible security. As for the personal info, welcome to the world, tons of major software companies keep your information, most of the time for your own convienece. Also no computer is *generally* made just for you, the information you give it is just that, the stuff you "said" the information was. If you are so Microsoft-paranoid, you could just use that method.

Definitly Firefox to browse the web, Photoshop (I don't even have but I want), and Visual Basic 6 (I also don't have this) with VB6 I could just make my own software
-
We found that out awhile ago, it was essentially a wasted download, I really didn't notice any changes, and the security seems the same to me. Oh well, maybe there was a new virus specially designed to hack Firefox and this upgrade saved my life...

Internet Explorer 7 reviews of IE 7 and its Betas
htmlmaster replied to haron's topic in The Internet
It won't be with Windows Longhorn, it will be with XP SP2. Microsoft WILL be focusing on security more than anything else. However the graphics will look somewhat like Firefox/Netscape (from what I have seen). It will come in tab browsing and a prototype should be released this summer (I think). Chances are it is going to be better than the current version of Firefox, and probably the newest version at the time. Yet the popularity IE6 has lost will hurt, as someone said earlier, IE still has a very bad image. I will most likely switch to IE7, if it fails me agian, I'll go back to Firefox. -
What Is Your Favorite Books/series Come on Tell us Lol...
htmlmaster replied to BeyondEarth's topic in General Discussion
The correct term is "What are your favorite books" My favorite would have to be the Harry Potter series. It is hard to explain thousands of pages in a few sentances but I will do my best.Harry Potter starts out as a 10 year old boy living with the Durselys, terrible people, on his eleventh birthday he is "rescued" by Hagrid and learns that he is a wizard, and that he survived an attack by lord Voldemort, the most powerful sorcerer for 100 years. At the end of his year at school, Harry comes face to face with Voldemort. Harry esacapes agian. In his second year he faces a memory of Voldemort, however this memory is more powerful than he thinks, it can summon a basicisk, a giant serpant. Harry defeats the Basilisk and escapes agian. In his third year Harry learns that his Godfather, Serius Black, was a crimminal who betrayed his parents, however it is the other way around, Black tried to stop the betrayer, but was framed for doing it.In the fourth Book Voldemort comes back to life in full form (long story short) however no one belives Harry, with the exception of friends and teachers. In the fifth book Serius is murdered but not in vain, everyone realizes Voldemort is back. The sixth book comes out July 16 -
I have tried 3d RPG maker before, it is OK. I didn't look at it very long. I couldn't figure out how to work the main character, and the test battles were pretty dumb. The only way to make games is pure programming.

I would buy a very good computer, with the best hardware, all the software, then I would buy all programming references and learning tools in the world, with that knowledge I'll make my own software, and boot out Microsoft... If I had money leftover I would put it in a bank.Oh I forgot to mention, I would buy my own server too.

The Harry Potter series. I started reading them in 2nd grade, they took me from an OK reader to an avid one. I think that without them my acedemic success would not have been possible, so most likely, I wouldn't design websites.

Credits Suggestion This will help forum profits
htmlmaster replied to htmlmaster's topic in Web Hosting Support
Oops, sorry I didn't notice that. Maybe make it more... visible so something like this doesn't happen agian? -
I suggest that you make it possible for people to buy credits. The credits should be cheaper than actual paid hosting. I think this is a good idea becuase users can post their way to getting 10 credits, but to keep their hosting they can buy, say, 100 credits. Then 100 days later they can buy another 100. I think this will really lead to the success of this forum.Hope I helped.

II would go with five, better safe than sorry. It really depends on the type of website you run. If you run an extremely dynamic website with submission forms, user log-ins, and other stuff that requires a MySQL database, then shoot for unlimited. Otherwise if your website is more static go for about 5, just in case you decide you want to use them.

Gmail is the best service, who could go wrong with 2+gigs of memory? As for installed services I like Google toolbar becuase it shows you PR, except you can't use it in FireFox.

Super Smash Brothers 3 with character list
htmlmaster replied to truefusion's topic in Computer Gaming
Wow, I can't wait to get that. (I am king of super smash bro's melee *go falco*).What I would wonder is how are they going to fit all the characters on the screen where you select one? -
Thank you!!! I'm not alone in the world of school technology stupidity. I agree, the most advanced thing that we have done in computer class this year was probably powerpoint. No one in my class has a clue what Photoshop is and wouldn't dare try to use it. I would be the only one who owns a website or even knows a web programming language. Some people need help logging out of a networked computer, and some just can't. (I have turned the computer *when it was in standby mode* and about 3-4 times this year the same person was still logged in, tend to doubt that person ever longs out.)

Which Scripting Language To Start With Best question for beginners
htmlmaster replied to alexia's topic in Programming
Maybe JavaScript http://www.crays.com/ learn or http://www.w3schools.com/ 's JavaScript section. I think that JavaScript is the easiest scripting language, maybe PHP is easier, if you think that is the case then: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ has a lot of more advanced PHP tutorials, easy ones can be found at http://www.phpbuddy.com/ -
Its a nice program, I've used it before, except I would hardly call it "programming".

Umm, what exactly are you talking about? If you mean complier a helpful one can be found at http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html Hope that helps.

Search Engines Ranking How Search Engines work
htmlmaster replied to eXtreme's topic in Search Engines
Google's algorithm is much more complicated than that. Google also takes into factor the keyword density, PR, and of course if the site is listed in Dmoz that is a huge factor. Put all of those properties into a very complicated formula, then you get the Google algorithm. -
I had viruses my my computer before, now I am proud to say that there is nothing malicious on my PC. Go AVG!

All that malware is going to be really hard to take out. First get the software, ad-aware is great, but there are better programs out there. Let's start simple, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, completly free, can be found: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/default.aspx Then you can get AVG anti-virus free http://www.avg.com/de-de/download-update Use the two programs (both at once if you plan on getting this done today). After you found all that spyware I suggest you delete a few at a time. I suggest no more than 10 at a time. (if you overload the program it will freeze). After that get a firewall, firewalls are good at keeping hackers and malware away from your PC, I suggest zonealarm at http://www.zonealarm.com/ If you want to use ad-aware after that then that's fine too.

No, its not possible, however you are right, it does work in JavaScript, if you require the script then: var jswidth = screen.width;if (jswidth==800) document.write("<div class='main' style='width:63%;'>");else if (jswidth==1024) document.write("<div class='main' style='width:72%;'>");else if (jswidth==1152) document.write("<div class='main' style='width:75%;'>");else if (jswidth==1280) document.write("<div class='main' style='width:77%;'>");else document.write("<div class='main' style='width:63%;'>");Name that file homepage.js for your convienience. Link to this file by using <script type="text/javascript"src="/index/homepage.js"></script>right before your main content in the homepage. Then make this file: document.write("</div>");Name it divclose.js. Place the following code after your content: <script type="text/javascript"src="/index/divclose.js"></script>This is untested, but I am almost positive it would work.
