  1. i used to check out tutorial9 a lot a while back. i think i need to get back into it to learn bout web design. my problem is i can never come up with an idea to keep me interested and continue to work on a website.
  2. i would never use safari on a PC. why? its not worth the maybe small boost in speeds that you get. since safari was designed for Macs the amount of tweaks they needed to do in order to port it over to PC is insane. in one of my classes last year we compared the amount of files/folders/registry changes that were made when installing various browsers.the results were obtained using a freeware program that would snap a photo essentially of your file structure and registry. then you make some changes, run it again and you can see the stats. after doing this with a variety of browsers, Safari on PC was hands down the worse as there were SOOOO many more things changed than with any other browser.
  3. i didn't really read any of the posts to this thread. but based on the title alone i kind of agree with it. the fact is that all public school sucks. high school was an okay time for me, but compared to the college life, it sucks. its one of those things that you need to work yourself through as it isn't going to change. high school is going to suck. no matter how you slice it.the best thing you can do is keep yourself busy and try to take things you like. its when you dont have the flexibility to choose things that there will tend to be problems as you keep losing interest. thats when you will find yourself getting in trouble.once i got in to college and i had basically full control of my schedule, i really took interest to most of my classes with the excepion of hte mandatory classes that i had to take.
  4. the way i see it, an iPhone is good for fun use for little kids. there are so many useless apps out there and thats all you ever hear about. the BB is more about getting things done and getting them done effeciently. anyone that thinks an iPhone is a productive phone is off their rocker. a touch screen cannot be used in anywhere near an effective way as a BB with a physical keyboard can.will BBs ever sell like an iPhone? no. because apple spends millions of dollars on advertising. you see tons of things in regards to the iPhone its rediculous. with the number of apps available (useful or not) theres just so much press about it. i personally won't touch anything apple because i don't like their prices. way to expensive for what they do when i can get something i am willing to buy and can most likely do more.i just picked up the BB Tour last week (essentially the Bold on a different carrier) and i love it. while there arent many apps out for it, i like it a lot. such power in such a little package. if you want a toy get an iPhone/iTouch if you want to get somethign done, get a blackberry
  5. i used knoppix before in a computer forensics class i had. it was kind of a lame class, because our teacher had no idea what he really wanted to do. the process he gave us to install knoppix on a USB key (i think every IT person should have a version of linux on a USB key) was so long compared to the one found on pendrivelinux.com (i think thats the site lol). but other than that, for the purposes we were using linux for i think we would have been better off using backtrack. i think there are many other options than knoppix when it comes to a live cd version of linux. it is ultimately up to the user and their opinion on what they really like. but for me...knoppix isn't my thing.
  6. while you're pretty much right with that response, the fact is it doesnt fully expire then. its in june or july when it truly expires. but in march it does become a nuisance to use as every two hours it will reboot. takes a lot of productivity out of the OS causing you to do something. but you can't argue with a free working OS for almost a year.
  7. i saw this but i think im going to pass. just because i purchased one on release day and while its a pretty sweet device, i just dont use it enough. i have a decent amount of games for it and probably going to sell it. if anyone wants to do business on here lemme know ill give first cracks to someone on here. its in great condition btw. kept it in a logitech hard case.message me if your interested and ill give you more details
  8. haven't seen many topics about UFC and the only one i saw had no replies to it. so im guessing this site is based overseas so the sport of choice is soccer/football. but July 11th marks a historic night for UFC and its fans as it will be their 100th event. the fight card is totally stacked and tickets are being sold at some crazy prices (for UFC at least). im most anticipating the rematch between Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar to determine who is the undisputed heavyweight champ. i'm pulling for brock and i think he can take care of business this time around as his first fight with Mir was when he had little experience and just got over anxious.a bunch of buddies and i are getting together to watch this on PPV and was just curious if anyone else is into UFC and/or going to be watching come next saturday
  9. first off let me comment on eberts "review". that was a load of crap. i couldnt even read half of it, because I knew he didnt understand a damn thing about the movie. it was just a completely mindless review. one of the things i'd like to touch on that others have talked about and was also mentioned in ebert's review, is the speech of the autobots in particular. many don't know why they have the accents they do, but im pretty sure it was touched on in the first movie that they analyzed the behavior of humans and took their speech from the web and what not which is why they have the accents they do. dont quote me on it but im pretty sure thats how it breaks down. as for the movie itself i was thouroughly entertained. i never knew that 2.5 hours could go by so fast. even when it was "slow" it still wasnt that bad as they added some comedic relief in these portions. the action was awesome. some of the better fighting scenes i've seen in a movie. wish some more time was spent with even newer autobots as it seemed the main ones this time were skids and mudflap. would've been nice to see mor about arcee and some of the others you see in the beginning. i agree with you saint about the use of John Turturros character usage. he was kind of an *bottom* in the first movie, but brought a great personality the second time around. i was always laughing at something when he was involved.overall, a great movie. if you loved the first one, i dont see why you wouldnt love this one as well
  10. I don't think many will give up on XP even past its final support date which is a few years down the road I believe. Even after then i'm sure there will be plenty of people still using XP as their windows OS of choice. unless windows 7 proves to be eons better than vista was, which shouldn't be hard to do, many people just won't switch. the core people that i think will switch, are those with vista, and those who want the latest and greatest thing out there. the general consumer and many businesses will continue to use XP because they know it works. i don't blame them either. it just goes with the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." plus people are going to be hesitant to try an OS that many are just referring to as a service pack to vista. while i understand their point of view, i feel it is totally different from vista in terms of looks and functionality. i wish that UAC was completely removed but it isn't nearly as much of a nuisance as i remember from vista (yes i know i can turn it off). if it behaved how linux works, prompting for the users password before changes are made, then itd make a little more sense.
  11. i think the iphone 3gs is just a load of crap from Apple. a new year. a new iphone. this doesnt seem nearly as drastic as the change from gen1 to gen2. its just another reason for apple to get more of everyones money that must have the newest apple gadgets. i for one am steering clear of it as i want nothing to do with Apple products whatsoever. im much happier with the multitude of choices of blackberries
  12. i've tried out a bunch of lesser known distros thanks to distrowatch. however i always seem to come back to Ubuntu. its familiar to me, and the community support is just awesome. time and time again when i've had an issue (dell laptops tend to have things that dont work right) be it the forums there or their IRC channel have been able to help me out and get things working again.i usually set up some VMs to tinker with other OSs while in Ubuntu so i get a feel of different flavors. but nothing has really stuck for me yet.
  13. having recently joined this site under a day ago im very happy to be here and have found this great community. i was on a similar site a few years back and i love this place more already. i havent gotten hosted yet, but im not in much of a rush as i need to come up with an idea for a site to even start. but one thing i want to comment about the site is the "Similar Topics" feature. I think this is a great part of these forums. I havent really seen it anywhere else, and it leads me to even more topics to take a look at. i really enjoy it hear so far and hope to have a great stay here for sure.keep up the awesome work!
  14. i'm all about the horde for three reasons. 1)all my friends are horde2)too many little kids play alliance on my server3)couldnt stand to be an alliance toonmy fav horde race is easily tauren. they are just simply B.A. the druid form is getting re-done in the new patch and i simply cant wait.
  15. an earlier poster mentioned that this is only the case when the foods are RAW. not in any state. and just because someone is vegan doesnt mean they dont believe in cooking. they still cook therefore eliminating your response on the matter. The reason why they are negative calorie foods in their raw state is because it is taking you more effort to break it down than it does to digest the food. until i read this post the only food i really knew that fell under this category was celery, for good reason too. that stuff is hard to eat sometimes
  16. I used to be totally against WoW. I couldnt' understand what the big deal about it was. On top of the fact I had no way that I would be able to pay for it, nor did I want to. After a while I gave in and decided to give the free trial a go. Nothing really peaked my interest here and I just went on my way.Fast forward to about 6 months ago. A bunch of my friends in my classes have been playing and kept trying to get me to play. I constantly refused telling them I wasn't bout to get absorbed into a game like that. Especially when 2 of my friends have some serious playing issues, and practically twitch when they haven't played in like an hour. Finally my other friend, who is prob the most stable told me about recruit-a-friend which allows you to obtain triple exp while playing with your recruiter/recruitee. this makes the leveling up bit a lot less painful and gets you closer to end game content faster. theres many other little nuiances with this feature which are all cool. especially on the recruiter side of things. After the trial I decided I was going to get it. What i lacked originally was a group of people to play with to keep things interesting. It's annoying as hell to play when you are by yourself. But when you play with others its a much more enjoyable experience. I've gotten my Death KNight to level 80 (starts at 55 for those who don't know) and been playing around going into instances and what not. but i havent been playing that much recently, and i think that it is greatly attributed to the fact i work 9-5 currently, and im just too tired at the end of the day to put in 2 hours or so of playing time to be slightly productive.while the 15 bux a month bit sucks, it is a well done game, and they are constantly adding new amazing features to the game. for example in the coming weeks (hopefully its that long) a new content patch will be released with updates to the level "rewards" mainly the levels at which one can obtain mounts to get away from the whole walking bit sooner. faster speed = more quests completed = more experience faster = level up quicker.there will always be those that are totally addicted to the game, and those that are totally turned off to the game. but im happy to say that im in the middle of it all.
  17. This was really creepy to find out about as I literally just finished watching an episode of his show Pitchmen before I found out about his passing via Twitter. Last week was an awful week for celebrities as we seemed to lose so many in such a short span of time. I think that it would be hard to find someone who hasn't seen or heard Billy Mays at one point or another. hard not to when he yells so loud! but thats what he was known for. his death also shows how its important to get regular checkups for a variety of things as the cause of his death appears to be a result of heart disease. i haven't read anything about if he knew about it or what not. but from what i can tell he didn't. if he had been tested and been aware of it, maybe something could have been done to keep him alive.its been a sad month when its come to well known celebrities (david carridine, farah fawcett, michael jackson, and now billy mays) what sickens me is all of the people posting fake claims of other celebrities passing (jeff goldblum, natalie portman, and most recently george clooney). this isn't something that should be joked about and taken lightly. i think that those who feel the need to get noticed for such claims, get punished for such unspeakable actions
  18. i'm gonna have to go with none of the above on this one. a program that does this and more, that i install on all my comps is VLC. its a nice lightweight client that works across all platforms. Windows and Ubuntu i know for certain, dont know about Mac but i dont see why not it doesnt. why have numerous programs for certain purposes when u can install one program that can handle it all?
  19. i haven't found anything major issues with the RC of windows 7. some programs dont work properly, but thats the extent of it. and in most cases, theres an alternative program to achieve that need until a fix is done for the one i wish to use. its not a big deal to me as long as i have a functioning, reliable system. the biggest gripe i have is one that most 64 bit users have, not enough of our apps have a 64 bit version of them. while not all people have a 64 bit processor so it wouldnt matter, i do and having a program thats designed to take advantage of the available resources is a nice thing to have. as the years go on im sure more developers will make a 64 bit version of their program for users with a 64 bit processor. obviously some people have a bad taste in their mouths with microsoft just like i do with apple (i really cant stand them whatsoever). but you're all entitled to those feelings. i havent had any major issues that i havent been able to get around in some way or another. in fact the biggest issues ive had with my comps have been my hardware, which is a totally different story. if windows doesnt have something i need, i just go into my other OS Ubuntu FTW. if only WINE was more reliable it would be the only OS i use.
  20. I've listened to some of the songs you have mentioned, and as far as a couple of the ones you didn't know the albums to, i've listend to them rather recently so i know that:Shinedown - Second Chance comes off of their "Sound of Madness" album. (check out the song of the same name, its awesome)and your 3 songs by Skillet come off of their "Comatose" album :(and welcome!
  21. are you saying that in terms of a general statement towards microsoft products or at windows 7 in particular? because so far i havent seen any major issues with using the RC of windows 7 that makes me think its Vista 2.0. yes a lot of the looks and features are that of vista, but when you look at some of the other OS's from microsoft the visual differences weren't so drastic either. its under the hood things that make the difference. does that mean it merits the pricing? i dont think so at all. i feel these prices are drastically too high. while the upgrade prices that people can snatch up currently are good (50 for home premium and 99 for professional i believe) the prices after this opportunity are just too high for the average consumer and i wouldnt bother purchasing it if you didn't really need to.
  22. i've been using the RC that was released publicly for almost a month now. i had been waiting for my replacement laptop from dell to come in before i installed. the first thing that really catches your eye at first is the desktop. a TOTAL difference from XP/Vista. (some may say the change in Vista from XP is drastic but it wasnt that much different in terms of use IMHO)the new taskbar takes a little bit of getting used to since it functions differently. however, after using it for a while i really like it and it keeps things orderly and neat. the taskbar will group things by the app so you dont have a bunch of things clogging ur taskbar. to see which things are open under a certain app u can hover over them using the Aero Peek feature. in addition the new taskbar kind of acts as your quicklaunch area since you can pin apps to the bar. very useful for those apps that you use all the time and want quick and easy access to them. the one thing i would change (if not implemented somewhere in it already) is that you should have to click once on the preview to see what it is, then double click to make it the active window. at the moment the hovering automatically brings a full preview up front and feels rather jerky and annoying.as for the apps, most all programs that i have installed so far work flawlessly. while others dont seem to want to cooperate at the moment. the main one is the Antivirus suite that i've used for a number of years called Comodo. free product and its worked awesome for me in the past. at the moment there are some issues but i'm sure they will get worked out by the time October 22nd rolls around.if anyone has any questions in regards to other things with Windows 7 i'll do my best to answer them
  23. well finally got it all set up thanks to the help of Saint. now when do the posting points (myCENTS) start getting accrued? thats the last question i still have at this point.
  24. i just tried again with a diff browser and checked all other settings and various passwords still do not work. i have a moderate rating and it doesnt go any farther.
  25. hey everyonejust stumbled across this site after a google search popped up. and discovered you guys provide a method to obtain free webhosting. i registered here obviously, and went to your Billing/Support site to register there. this is where i ran into a problem. every password i try that is more than acceptable anywhere else, continues to get shot down for lack of complexity. in order to get it into the green level, i have to randomly smash on keys and get to an obscene number of characters. thats at a point where there is no way im going to remember that password. does anyone have any suggestions or insight on what Xisto - Web Hosting constitutes an acceptable password?thanks
