  1. Hello Janani. I am from Canada and have an interest in music and art. I think the culture of your country is amazing. I was learning about classical Indian music but no one shared that interest. In my country even, the Indians don't seem interested in traditional Indian things. It is very awesome that you play an instrument. What instrument is it? I wanted to learn classical Indian instruments (tabla and sarod in particular) and studied a few ragas, but it's hard to learn where I live -- no teachers. To meet someone who was formally trained is impressive! I'd sure like to learn some things! I've already learned a bit of Hindi.I play a few instruments, Guitar, piano, drums. I'm not familiar with Bharatnatyam, is this a dance? Please feel free to elaborate. I know nothing about dancing. My introduction to Indian dancing was seeing the Commonwealth Games on TV. That was very nice by the way.Like you, I enjoy meeting people of different cultures and I look forward to hearing more from you. If you have any questions about life in Canada don't be afraid to ask.Have fun!

  2. You can skip using the usb cable and remove the SD Card from your camera and insert it into the computer (or card-reader). Shouldn't need any drivers for that. If nothing pops up with the cable or card, make sure you look in "My Computer" to see if it's there. You could try uninstalling the Kodak software before installing the Samsung software. You might find it under "Add/Remove Programs".

  3. I was introduced to eggnog when I was too young to know what it was. I've tasted about three or four brands of store-bought egg nog in my life and they all taste good. Some have more spices (cinnamon etc) than others. I've never tasted home-made stuff so I have no idea if it tastes anything like the stuff you can buy in a store. I'm interested in trying a home-made recipe but the raw eggs does kind of put a person off. I think most recipes recommend pasteurizing it before making it.I would describe the eggnog I've tried as tasting like...a sweet creamy drink. Rich, smooth, kind of like drinking a good quality Ice Cream flavour. It doesn't taste much like eggs to me, I've never had a glass of eggnog and thought Gee, I'd love a slab of bacon to go with this. It's very good anyway.

  4. I was looking at tablets and one of the first things I noticed was that the Kindle feels really light and comfortable to hold. I could see the advantages immediately for someone who wants to read and in fact I was a bit disappointed that current tablets aren't as nice for reading. It's shocking how rude people can be at Christmas. People seem to have this pathetic desire to appear smarter than others and end up showing only their ignorance. Hope you had a nice holiday otherwise and if you decide you don't want your kindle... I'd love to have it! :D

  5. Ahoy there Castaway, I checked out your blog. I like the name you've chosen "The Castaway Dream", it sounds cool. I find the font colours a bit difficult to read, the blue on grey especially. It depends what browser and computer I'm using. The content is interesting, I have an interest in animals, I've rescued a few myself B) No whales or dolphins mind you! I haven't had the opportunity to see many marine ones. Your trip to the Amazon sounds pretty exciting, it would be interesting to read about it but I'll have forgotten about it by then unless you plan on staying a member here

Hi, I created my website last year when I was going to Australia for four weeks. I used it as a blog and continued the blog when I moved away from home at 16 years old to study marine biology at college. I am going to the Amazon to work with river dolphins next Summer and will blog that too. I would like some opinions on my site in general, the content, style, design or anything would be helpful!! :)

    My website: http://www.thecastawaydream.co.uk/

Thank you very much, I look forward to reading any comments about it!

  6. I hate my computer. It can't find any Windows OS's. I only need my CD burning software. I can't find the install disc for it. It came with my CD burner. And installing from a download requires you to purchase it. If I had the install disc for Windows and NERO (the CD burning software), I would do a fresh install. Can Linux make ISO files?

What exactly are you trying to do? I didn't read the other posts, too lazy.

If you want to burn an iso image on linux, check out my incredibly educational post here: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/68226-burn-cd-images-in-linux-with-ease/

If you want to "make" files into an ISO image, that's possible too but I'm not sure how without googling.

If you're trying to burn an ISO on Windows, just download a free IMG burner found on Google.

  7. Hello everyone, how are you?I'm Wildflower! I'm new to the site and was directed here by Google.
I'm a very curious person and find the idea of this site intriguing.
I also would love to share my opinions on things if they'll help.
I'm not saying I'm a know it all, just someone who has two cents if you want it. :)
Anyhow it's nice meeting you all
and hopefully we'll be able to become friends.

Hello Wildflower, welcome! What kind of stuff are you interested in talking about?

  8. I don't think those sites ship to Canada so I didn't miss much. I was thinking about a Toshiba Satellite, they seem popular at least. I'll look into them, but I'm really just looking for the best sale! Does anyone else have experience with Acers, Dells, Lenovas, ASUS in this price range?

  9. I haven't done any computer shopping for a long time, so I don't know what's all on the market these days or how one thing compares to another. I've never owned a laptop either so I don't know which brand has a reputation for good, affordable laptops or pieces of junk. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want at least a 15.6", so no tiny net books. HDD size is not a priority , because I have more external HDD than you can shake a stick at. If anyone wants to help me shop, I've been browsing this website: https://www.canadapost.ca/shop/gifts.jsf;CPO_JSESSIONID=j_Kmu6Tgm2ONPDypeBLCrSeK4w63fCsSDu6i55X6cSiXsFSk7ESW!2124845929?execution=e1s1 Prices on that site are in Canadian dollars, but it's close enough to USD. Any recommendations will be welcome!

  10. Some computers (with their default sound cards like realtek) have a thing that lets you change your "environmental sound" with the equalizer, key or reverb effects. One of the presets is even Underwater. I wouldn't be surprised if someone experimented with this and left the sound all screwed up. There might be an icon on your taskbar that allows you to open up this audio manager and adjust the reverb settings. If you don't find an icon, it would be in the Control Panel too. If reverb FX aren't the problem, it might just be the EQ. Some EQ settings make music sound awful.

  11. I found http://www.w3schools.com/ to be very helpful. There are lessons on the left. I learned a lot from this site, and I think HTML and CSS should be the best place to start. As for getting a place to try your code, you can either post here and earn money to buy a domain like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or download something that can be run locally on your computer. I think running a local server is the best way to start out as long as you don't expect many (or any) visitors to your practice site. A good way to try it out is to download http://www.wampserver.com/en/ which installs everything you need easily.

  12. I seem to have missed our resident sheepdog's barrage of dog related topics by mere minutes, but anyway I need a refresher course on dog grooming. It's shedding time again and I'm in need of some help or emotional support (Ack, so much fur flying!!)

I said a lot of this last time I posted about dog grooming, but I'll say it again..

Here is my dog, a Border Collie with a medium length rough coat (I guess) :

    Posted Image

Not a current picture. He's shedding a lot now..

    I have these equipment:

I can't seem to make any progress brushing my dog during shedding season. I use the under coat rake, and after hours of "raking" his back I still get big clumps of under coat fur. How long is it supposed to take? Am I supposed to keep going until no more clumps of fur come out with the rake, or should I just move on to another type of brush?

Should I be using the rake all over my dog's body or just his back/sides? Not surprisingly, he doesn't seem to like his furry butt raked. His butt is in serious need of brushing, but I'm not sure how to tackle it. His butt area is definitely the most frustrating area to brush for both me and the dog and also the most in need of attention. It always gets tangles. I guess his obsession with swimming only makes the tangles worse..

Should I be doing small areas at a time, or brush the entire length of the dog in one long sweep?

Also.. I read that you're supposed to either brush backwards (against the fur direction) or use some kind of spiral motion. Huh? Am I supposed to be doing this? I gave it a try and my dog didn't seem to mind, but it seems weird.

Do I need more grooming equipment? I think some kind of a heavy duty comb would be useful to get tangles out. I'm also wondering if the brushes shaped like a glove might be a more comfortable experience for my dog or is it the same thing as what I already have? I find the brush I have in the picture a little too... rough? It doesn't seem to work as good as a regular soft squishy hair brush on the tail, which I often find myself using instead of the dog brush. My dog seems less bothered by a softer brush on his tail.

I was interested in what they call a "Slicker Brush"

    Posted Image

I was reading about grooming and I saw some people use this brush a lot? Should I be using this instead of the "Grooming Brush" I posted up there? Is it good for the whole body or mainly for sensitive areas like the belly?

    Well, lots of questions...

  13. Sooo, rice. A lot of people don't think too much about rice but I do! I'm curious as to how other people prepare this common food? What type of rice do you use, plain old white? Brown? Jasmine? Basmati? Other? Do you use an open pot or covered pot method? Rice cooker? Do you prefer it mushy and sticky or dry-ish? Do you add any spices? How do you eat it? Fork? Spoon? Chopsticks? Hands, ...feet? I've been experimenting with different rices like Jasmine and Basmati, and they're pretty good. Tastes like popcorn!

  14. I vented about Captcha's and their suck-tastic qualities a long time ago on this site. It seems most times they don't have to be solved with complete accuracy though. I often type in things that don't necessarily look right and they will work. I've seen three III's typed in as lowercase L's and it accepted it. Still, there are some sites that are just plain annoying. I hate when you "know" you're right, but it won't work! What site were you having problems with?

  15. For those of you that download stuff, movies, music, etc, I have some recommendations. I find the software JDownloader (http://www.jdownloader.org/) very useful. It automates downloading and makes it easier. I haven't found anything better for the job.

The problem is, you often have file links that are protected by Captchas and they won't download on JDownload without your intervention. Really sucks!

Hold back those tears of disappointment, for there is good news!

I recently discovered a great website to solve this problem. It is called http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Download the Jdownloader plugin, and you'll be able to download almost all links. You need to have credits for solves, which are cheap and/or easy to accumulate for free. You just go to Earn Credits, and solve some Captcha's when you have time to stockpile credits. It's not much work to solve some captchas in the corner of your screen while you're doing something else.

If anyone happens to register on captchatrader, I would appreciate if you used my nickname for a referral rob86 , I get a few credits if you do :)

Have fun with your LEGAL downloads!

  16. Hi. You did a fine job on your introduction, better than average I'd say! You don't need a whole lot of posts to get your website up and running, so just post some interesting stuff. I was overflowing with MyCents just from casual posting. Well, I don't make a great welcoming committee but everyone else seems to be sleeping and I'd hate for a new member to feel ignored :). Have fun, look forward to reading your posts!

  17. I like the robots one, especially the neat reference to The Day the Earth Stood Still. I also like in Google Chrome when a tab dies. "He's dead, Jim! X_X" like Dr McCoy.On a totally unrelated note, I thought the Three Stooges easter egg in Dead Space was pretty cool too! It certainly was in contrast to all the blood and guts.

  18. Were you lucky enough to receive a Windows 7 installation disk when you bought the laptop, or even a recovery disk? Both of these might give you the option to format your drive if you just put in the disk and reboot the computer. If you don't have one, there are other options..

Let me know and we'll go from there.

Hi, I'm wondering how do you format your laptop? I have a Windows 7 toshiba mini laptop. I want to format it as in restarting the computer, as if you just received it from the store, freshly bought. Please and thank you for the help.
    Additional Details
    Full detail of my laptop:
    - Windows 7
    - Toshiba
    - Model: NB305
    - 1GB DDR3 (expandable to 2GB)
    - 250GB HDD (5400rpm)
    - IntelŽ Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
    - Intel NM10

  19. If you aren't already, I recommend running a local web server on your computer for testing. Install the server with LAMP (linux) or WAMP (windows) is relatively easy if you follow instructions. It will make your testing easier and you'll be able to share your site with us by giving your IP address (Unless your ISP gives you a password protected router that blocks this web/ftp server stuff like my new one :( ) and you will be able to access it by the link http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . As your pages get more complex attaching them will be insufficient for us to see them. Of course you could upload everything to a site paid for by KS posts, but I prefer testing/learning locally because it's quicker and easier.
