Best thing is to be intimately familiar with as many programs as possible. And I mean INTIMATE. Like wine, dine, 69, doggystyle intimate. The more you know, the more proficient you are overall.You may find that one is more capable of doing some things then others. Just as you might use Illustrator to create a logo, then import it into Photoshop to add a texture, you might use Corel to create a background and import it into Photoshop to manipulate.

If you want a very popular forum you have to make the forum a section of a website that's popular and offers something to users. Like games, videos, music, etc. It needs a theme. A forum as an island just doesn't work all that well.There are exceptions, but even then I would argue it would be far more successful if it was part of a bigger picture.

The network is by far the fastest. I know you said you followed Sonesay's advice but just to verify, are you using a CROSSOVER cable? It won't work unless you use one. Crossover cables are wired differently. Two of the conductors are swapped.Otherwise use a router or switch between the computers. Then post what your errors are.Edit:Damn it, Asol! Basically I'm going to give myself a crash course and start designing the web page and learn from mistakes. It will be graphic intense because that's what I do.So what does JavaScript allow me to do? That way I can keep it in mind as I put together the page.

I like the color scheme. The first thing I noticed is it needs a gradient to imply a light source, but that was the first comment. Just don't make it an obvious gradient.The logo is weighted too much to the left. The curls should extend further right and maybe not so low. And make it BIG. Fill in that dead space.You need to have a spot reserved for a large image. I mean a LARGE image. The type should be secondary and compliment the image.Don't do sparkles or special effects. It looks good as is.The background could use a subtle texture or faded image related to the company. It should be almost barely noticeable. Right in the center, beside and behind the logo, with the edges feathered. Color it a monotone brown to match and give it 15-25% transparency.The pattern in the bottom right would look better faded too. And maybe if it carried along the bottom to frame the brown box.

I've been doing print graphics professionally on and off for years, but now I'd like to become proficient at putting together web designs.So what order should I look into learning web design? Clearly I start with HTML. Then what should I expand to? AS3? Java?Please describe why, and what the code enables a site to do.I'm thinking starting with HTML which I know the basics of anyway, then Flash. After that, I'm not sure which way to go.
