  1. mizako... SEO=search engine optimization. web gold is an app webmasters
use to monitor their site rankings in a multitude of search engines. just
try to google the app for more details.

metatags are useful for ANY search engine bot, so dont neglect it in your web
    pages.

one tip to enhance SEO: use ALT in your images when appropriate.
    EXAMPLE:

    <img src='style_images/1/logo4.gif' alt='Powered by Invision Power Board' border="0" />

don't just place a crappy ALT description... think of something that will be
REALLY descriptive of your page. example: if you have a FORUMS
image, don't just put alt='Forums'. try, alt='Forums discussing the merits
of meta tags and other methods in search engine optimization'. a search
engine bot crawling your pages would glean more info on your pages from
the latter example than the first. these hidden codes beneath the web interface
you see in the browser can raise your rankings in search engines. :D (of course,
every search engine algorithm differs, but it will help in most cases).

and that's just one tip. :D more later if i can still remember them :D

  2. have tried this months ago. but soon my trial period expired, so tough luck! :Di dont want to pay for this service. speed enhancement is achieved mostly by downsizing quality of imageson pages viewed. if you dislike images, you can just turn OFF the imagessettings of your browser, and speed is enhanced, even without onspeed.with onspeed, it still has to pass the onspeed servers, so a minor lagtime is expected (still, a lag time is a lag time). pages are crunched on theonspeed servers before being served to a network of servers before itgets to your browser, so this is an extra step before getting to view your desired web page. touting it to reach 300kb on a 56kb connection is just too much :D i'm alsoon a 56kb connection and the best i can get with onspeed is a little over3X speed enhancement. the BIG BUT here is: images you view are compromised. if you enjoy viewing pages with fuzzy graphics embeddedas a result of onspeed, go on, use it. :D the best thing to do for me is to kill/close apps which are running inthe background of my OS which i dont need while being connected to theinternet. this gives my PC the extra juice it needs to give my modem the resources it needs. :D overall, onspeed oversells like every internet accelerator i've tried. :D

  3. admin, i thought you're planning on having 101MB space + 5GB bandwidth package? :D how about a 2-3GB (bandwidth instead as a compromise? :Dposts count will not be a problem for most of us who are really intoXisto. :D it's best if we just stick to one package from hereon. too much changeswithin a span of days will just confuse members, future and present. also, sticking to one package with a determined number of GOOD posts (in this case, 50), will thresh out those "fly-by-night" members who just come in here for a "free ride" without contributing helpful posts to otherforum members.i would opt for your earlier plan of having a higher bandwidth allotment formembers, IF possible. :D

  4. welcome to Xisto slyfox :D you will definitely like it here.a lot of topics are discussed here so i'm sure you can makelots of interesting posts to qualify for hosting. :Dand your posts will definitely not be ignored. they will allbe read and reacted upon. if there is no reply in one of your posts, you just have to do better next time to make it moreinteresting. :D

  6. btt, google pays tribute to the Athens 2004 Olympics, that's whythey have that. :P every now and then, google comes up withsuch lovely re-designs of their logo to fit an occasion. havealso chanced upon some christmas, new year, valentines, and halloween redesigns of google's logo before. this is just theirlatest, so we could expect more of that :P

  7. mine's TURBOFTP.... mostly because it can resume uploads. :P can also upload multiple folders in queue. plus explorer directory interface so you can view BOTH the FTP window and your PC files. drag-and-drop. imports also FTPsettings from other FTP apps. with backup option for FTP settings/address book. easy CHMOD. easy synchronize. + more features... :P

  8. what about pop email, i need a good service that has that, so i can use outlook, or thunderbird type email clients

3rd-party apps to pop gmail in ur email client app like outlook isalready available. just google search for these if you need one. :P

  9. stevey, make a random pick :( every linux user has great things to say about
their particular distribution package they use, so agreeing on which to choose
would be an endless debate. :P download one (any one) and see if you can be
comfortable in installing and running it.

but i would suggest you make further research on linux as well as
hardware compatibility lists from each of the distributors. :P then download
that which you suppose can handle your hardware. just needs time though. :(

    Which Distribution Is The Best?
Yeah, right. The best distribution is whichever one that You think is best. I suggest that you install and try as many different distributions as you can. Not only will you learn some things about Linux in general, you'll also discover some things about Linux in particular, like which one is best for you.

  10. icleric, if ur domain name is pointed to another host before transferring it to Xisto and that old host is still working, the old host will be where all references to your domain name will be directed (because that is where the OLD DNS records are pointed). AFTER propagation of the new DNS settings of your domain name within the next 24/48 hrs after your update (in this case to Xisto's nameservers), all references will be to your Xisto hosting. :P so while DNS propagation is not yet complete, you can prepare your content for Xisto already to make it ready for upload later. :P (otherwise, you have to use the direct IP address of Xisto hosting if youwant to upload AHEAD of complete DNS propagation.)

  11. i dont see the point of this poll... too childish. so i didnt vote for any of the choices. :P i just want to point out that i believe in Xisto admin's decisionto give moderator status to people he trusts to give these forums a semblance of substance. because this is a posts-for-hosting forum, wetruly need people of the kind of templest and sauron and the othermoderators. or else we'll be deluged with nonsense crap (otherwiseknown as spam) which hinders enjoyment of the forums, and whichjust adds garbage to an otherwise helpful and meaningful exchangeof ideas. this post is a salute to Xisto admin and all moderators.keep up the good work. :P

  12. i got 13 invities with-in 1 week.....am i special or something?

from gmail? or from swapping sites? ur one lucky dude, ryan, if gmail gave you 13 invites recently. :P stevey seems to need one, so pass on the luck. ;)

  13. Oh.. Yeah may be they can understand that it is a small raincoat to protect from wetting your Junior... ;)

LOL! admin, you really have a great sense of humor! that reply surelymade me nearly fall off my seat. hahahhaaü

psp, maybe DUREX has branched out into some other lines of
products already -- like gaming versions of their "stuff". heheheü

  14. Lollipop, i have read and enjoyed the hobbit as well. B) the hobbit is something like a prequel for the whole LOTR book series. but an even earlier accounts of the middle-earth can be found in THE SILMARILLION.The book's FOREWORD goes:"The Silmarillion, now published four years after the death of its author, is an account of the Elder Days, or the First Age of the World. In The Lord of the Rings were narrated the great events at the end of the Third Age; but the tales of The Silmarillion are legends deriving from a much deeper past, when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils.";) Tolkien's mythological books are really a blast to read. :P
