  1. I play disc golf. It's a sad time of year for me because I like to go out after work and play a round after work. But from early November through mid-February, there is not enough light to play after work and I'm reduced to only being able to play on weekends. I also enjoy pool, carrom, and 10-pin bowling, so at least I have something to do during rainy days and winter.
  2. It's really entertaining to look at these preseason picks now that the season is half over. Now I think it looks like the Steelers will take the AFC North and I doubt the Browns will make the playoffs at all. The Titans are clearly running away with the AFC South, and despite this preseason pick of Tennessee being in the cellar of their division, I believe they'll end up as the #1 AFC seed. The AFC East and West are too close to call for me.The NFC North looks too close to call right no too. I'm going to go ahead and call the NFX South for Carolina though, because I'm a homer and they're leading the division. I think Tampa Bay will make the playoffs, but I don't thisnk the Saints will. NFC East -- well the Giants look like the division winners and I'm thinking either the Eagles or the Redskins make the playoffs, but I don't think the preseason darling Cowboys will. NFC West goes to Arizona.I'm not ready to call the Super Bowl yet, but I'm still holding a lot of hope the Panthers make it to the Big Game.
  3. I think the best writer I've ever read is Neal Stephenson. His most recent book "Anathem" is just brilliant stuff. Stephenson tells an entertaining story, while at the same time probing serious existential issues. What was really fascinating to me is that "Anathem" starts out in a setting with a medieval feel to it and ends on a starship that's travelled universes. I found the book compelling both in the story-line, the craft displayed in the writing, and in the philosophical underpinnings. If you want to check out Neal Stephenson, I'd recommend you start with his most popular book "Snow Crash". It's lighter reading than his other books but it will still make you think and it's a lot of fun. "Cryptonomicon" is also excellent, about on a par with "Anathem". His System of the World trilogy is not quite as accessable for casual reading. While Stephenson might be the best author I've ever read, he's not my favorite though. My favorite is Michael Connelly. For my money, his Harry Bosch novels are the best detective stories out there and his stand-alones are just as good. Can't wait to get my hands on his latest. I'm number 2 on the library hold list right now.
  4. No one has mentioned my favorite sport, so I want to show my love for disc golf (also known as frisbee golf). Disc golf is fun, inexpensive, and great exercise. You can play alone or with friends. For spectator sports, I enjoy watching football, both NFL (Go Panthers!) and soccer (EPL, MLS, and international games) I enjoy watching boxing too.
