  1. Supposedly Microsoft is still in discussion on taking it over, even after their initial retraction of their offer. After Google stepped in to stop Microsoft they also offered to take over certain aspects of Yahoo. So basically one potential monopoly was stopped by another potential monopoly. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Google, but I don't want them to be the only option on the web. They are an amazing company as now, but once their competition starts to fade away do you think they will remain as humble as they are currently? Nothing would stop them from turning into a yahoo type sight with tons of bull *BLEEP* advertisement or a site that completely filters the content you'll see so that you can't find the obscure sites any longer. They could be a major player in ending net neutrality and the internet as we currently know it.
  2. I saw this on digg a week or so ago. Was kinda shocking. Honestly If I was in the mans shoes I wouldn't press charges and would offer her a place to stay. He lives alone, so I seriously don't think he'll mind the company. She lived in a closet for almost a year, what would it hurt for her to sleep on the couch or in an extra bedroom? Tell her that you'll feed her, give her a place to stay and in return you ask that she keeps the place clean and organized. If she doesn't like that then she can get the hell out. Otherwise it's a win win for both of you. She is a little old to start a new job so this may be the best way for her to get stabilized for the rest of her life. I would seriously let her stay with me if I was in that situation.
  3. I think it's a pretty terrible idea not to let people adjust the price to insure they get a job. If the pay is too low for the programmers work then they shouldn't be stupid enough to take the job. You wouldn't go to best buy and purchase a 5000 dollar TV when it's at circuit city for only 4000 just because you don't like the undercutting that circuit city has, would you?As far as a sub forum for hiring free lancers go, it'd be nice, but I'd probably still go to a site like freelancer.com when I needed something done.
  4. Some games don't, but most the ones he listed do. Games like Neopets and Runescape really arn't worth it. 90% of the time when you buy it from someone who says that they where made "legit" are lieing to get an extra 2 bucks or so. Which makes it easier to get both accounts banned. Also, selling a company's intellectual property is an illegal offense in most countries and can land you a pretty hefty lawsuit, all though they don't typically go after the small fish.
  5. 1. What are your current feelings about how our government is handling our country? (not Iraq) 3 - 42. What do you think we should do about Iraq? Drasticly rethink our plan3. Do you think we should have an increased communication/discussion with all countries? A. Definatly yes!4. Who do you want to be the next president A. Obama D. They're all bums! ( You asked who we think will be the next president. That doesn't get rid of option D as well. ) 5. What are your feelings about the American people as a whole? D. Only care about their own lives6. Are you concerned about government spending? 9-10 It makes me want to move to Canada7. What are your thoughts about our health care system? D. I don't know - I would love for everyone to get full health care. I just don't want to pay for everyone else. =/8. Do you think that mass protest between American citizens could spur on change in our country? It won't make change because it won't happen. 9. All in all, what are your feelings about our country? A. It's bad 10. What is your age, marital status, job field? To all of you that took the time to answer the questions, thank-you so much. Let me know if you liked the survey or thought is was trash. Either way your answers will be interesting to me. Again, thank-you20 / Male / Student in an IT field.
  6. I think the moral and psychological issues behind this are to endless to ever really discuss fully. "Organ harvesting" could be the way to save millions of lives every year, at the cost of another. Whos life is more important, yours or the clones? Also, don't you think their are enough people on the planet already? Just what we need is going around creating new ones out of thin air, or out of a single strand of DNA. :DThis is an issue I really don't know how I feel on. There are so many positives, all with a downside that it really makes it hard.
  7. I'm only level 100, but luckily enough I have several friends that help me out a lot in game. I'm user number 43917 if y'all want to look me up in game. Also, check out their official forums for help and such. They actually have a lot of really nice people that will typically give you things to help you get started. ( don't give out your ID to people unless you have too. Some will jump you just to be *bottom* holes. ) One basic tip is to vote for them everyday ( you get a lot of crystals and cash ) and make sure to keep whatever you're not using inside your safety deposit box or the bank. yes, the reason it's such a great game is because you can play quickly from work and such. It's what gets me threw some of those long boring days.
  8. It wouldn't prevent corruption. It would just prolong the time frame before things start to get corrupt. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" Eventually someone will become corrupt, and from them someone else and someone else, so on and so forth. Doesn't matter how much you " brain wash " people. These people are bred to be political geniuses, they will all be thinking of a way to get more power / money / control.
  9. terrible terrible game. Fable 1 really sucked me in. I played it for a week or so ( not even steadily ) beat the game and was hugly let down by how it ended. Fable 2 wasn't able too draw me in so I never really could get into it. =/

    Program List

Thanks for the list...but it seems to be a very out dated one. Makes it look like it was just taken from another site. A few of the software listed here hasn't been in production for many months, to years. For example, beryl hasn't been updated since August of 2007. It has since merged into compiz and all the new discussion and downloads will be found there. This is just one example though, I notice two or three more just after a quick glance and I'm betting that there are more if I actually searched. Thanks for the links though, some are good to have on hand I guess.
  11. Simpsons man, it's a classic ! I find it a little funny that the OP shuns more intellectual humor while he prides crude humor. Simpsons will never be known as a educational show, but any show that helps stimulate the mind in a positive way is great.
  12. I've been looking forward to this game for a little while now. My retail World of Warcraft account was closed about two weeks after my guild of four years broke apart. =/ A few of the guys went into this game and I was looking to do so as well. It sucks having to shell out 40 - 50 dollars just to see if it can keep my interested though. It will probably be another three or four months before trial codes come out.
  13. I have to agree with the responses saying that they are mostly a waste of space. I've played on numerous private servers ( WoWscape mainly ) and have even hosted a few on my LAN. I'm currently playing on a WoTLK alpha server just to see all the new gadgets. The game is completely bugged on the private servers however. Very few quests work, and even when they do you have to deal with NPC's bugging out and instable servers. Also having to worry about doing a quest only for it to be broken sucks. Quest : Kill 10 wolves and bring me back their liver. Played : I killed 200 wolves to finally get ten wolf livers.Quest : I'm sorry this quest is out of order.Player : WTF Also having to worry about if the server is still going to be there in a day is kinda scary. =/
  14. Did a quick search and realized y'all haven't discussed Lost Power City before. Lost Power City ( yes that is a referal link ) is a turned base game where you build up your stats in order to be the strongest player in game. You attack other players to level, buy new property to train and buy and sell items to take control of the economy. The official login quote is. Anyone else play it around here? I've only been playing for a few days ( maybe a week ) actively, and I've absolutely fallen in love with it. I can log in for ten minutes during my lunch break and get everything I need done and come back later that night and keep on playing.
  15. I own both 1.6 and source but honestly I can't say I've played either enough to notice a difference other then visuals. With that said I much more enjoy source simply for how much more appealing it is. Maybe a silly question, but what is 1.7? o.o I've only heard of CZ:Condition Zero, 1.6 and Source. I know there was some in between versions but thought they never made it to retail.
  16. I know this thread is a little old, but wanted to put my input on ChaCha's service. As a guide I really like this site. I've tried the other dozen and dozen ways online to make cash, but ChaCha is the only one I've actually enjoyed so far. My only complaint with them is their payment options. Debit card instantly but you have to sign up with their bank, or direct deposit into your bank account once a month. I really wish they would add an instant ( as long as you meet certain requirements ) paypal option. Anyone who is looking to make some cash online this is a great way. Make your own hours, work how ever long you want to work. Best of all, when you want to quit then just quit. no bosses to report too or anything like that.
  17. I don't really classify myself as an Atheist, however I do meet the definitions term. As far as the original posters question, I personally think it's obvious that it is not a religion. Atheism - a: a disbelief in the existence of deity b: the doctrine that there is no deity Religion - a: the service and worship of God or the supernatural How could Atheism be considered a religion if it doesn't follow the definition.
  18. Me and my girlfriend are both pretty big movie buffs, but at the same time love to read. Lately we've been having a pretty big discussion about our distaste for books being turned into movies. The most recent "big" book title to be turned into a movie is, one of our favorite book series, Twilight. Twilight is an amazing book and I'm really looking forward to the movie. She, however, is very upset that they decided to make the book into a movie as it will "ruin her view of the characters." We can both agree that the movie will not compare to the book; however, I enjoy watching movies that derived from a book as it furthers my perception of characters and being a visual person it really helps me get back in touch with books I've read in the past. So what do you guys think? Do you enjoy movies that are derived from books or are you like my girlfriend who absolutely hates when they put your favorite books on the big screen?( I'm sorry if this is not the right place, I looked and this seemed most fitting.)
  19. I agree that the transformation packs are very attractive, but is it really worth slowing down your computer and potentially making it unstable? Windows isn't built like Ubuntu or the other Linux distros. Microsoft doesn't want people freely playing around with the software, modifying and redesigning what they have already made.
