  1. NTpasswd is a great linux distro i use, and that's probably the one you're thinking of. It can be found here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Overview: # This is a utility to (re)set the password of any user that has a valid (local) account on your Windows NT/2k/XP/Vista etc system. # You do not need to know the old password to set a new one. # It works offline, that is, you have to shutdown your computer and boot off a floppydisk or CD or another system. # Will detect and offer to unlock locked or disabled out user accounts! # There is also a registry editor and other registry utilities that works under linux/unix, and can be used for other things than password editing. How and Why? NT stores its user information, including crypted versions of the passwords, in a file called 'sam', usually found in \windows\system32\config. This file is a part of the registry, in a binary format previously undocumented, and not easily accessible. But thanks to a German(?) named B.D, I've now made a program that understands the registry. This site provides CD and floppy images for end users to easily edit their forgotten passwords. But it also provides full source code and binary builds of the tools to allow others to use as they like for other purposes. Registry format documentation also available. It can be found here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  2. woo hoo! sorta off topic, sorry, but i just upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.0 =)I like it much better than 5.0
  3. I apologize but I cannot remember the names of any of the companies that offer this service. I have a really bad memory, hence the nickname I would assume this would be profitable with the knowledge of any 2 languages keeping in mind that you will need to be fluent in both languages, and one of the languages is the native language of the place you plan on visiting. Again, this is just an assumption but I don't believe this would be a very profitable venture. I didn't think this was a good job opportunity I just thought that it was worth mentioning since some people may find it useful if they already have travel plans and want to make a little of money in the process. The payment may not cover the cost of the trip but may help cover the costs. Anything to lower the costs of travel is a good thing To answer your question/comment about it being less profitable teaching something other than English: English is the most popular language in the world so I'm sure there is a higher demand for English teachers worldwide. Since cost and demand is usually related I would guess that you would make more money teaching English compared to other languages since the demand is higher. However, if your native language is (for example) Japanese, and you were fluent in Italian and planning on visiting Italy, i would assume you could find companies eager to teach their employees Japanese for various reasons. This is just an example of a use for this service and Im sure there are many more uses for it. Sorry I dont have more information on the subject but this fall when I go back to college I will ask my counselor for more information and maybe she can direct me to companies or websites with more information.
  4. I don't use ImageFiles.com because I have no reason to... however, I am considering starting an account for extra storage space. I currently have a free hosting account with plenty of storace space to serve my needs, but I guess one can never have too much storage space.Has anyone had an unpleasant experience with the service? Let us know.
  5. I am really surprised at the number of posts in this thread. There must not be many World of Warcraft players that frequent the Xisto forums. Anyway, I just wanted to share with everyone something I do to make a lot of money on World of Warcraft. I'm sure you are familiar with the Auction House. If you aren't, get familiar. You can make a decent amount of money selling uncommon items, and above (items with their name written in Green, Blue, Purple and Orange). Never sell an uncommon (or better) item to a vendor until you have already made multiple attempts to sell it on the auction house. I suggest installing an addon called Auctioneer. This allows you to see how much and item sells for to a vendor in a popup window when you hover over an item in your inventory, or click an item in the chat window. It (Auctioneer) also lets you scan the auction house and save the information found, allowing you to see what the current market value is on items with lots of statistics like three day average, seven day average, and many other stats.I have found that heavy leather, thick leather and rugged leather sells really fast and for a very good price so if you have a skinner then you should go farm tons of leather and sell it on the auction house. I make about 30 gold per day selling leather alone.Bear Flank sells extremely well also. Go to Felwood and kill tons of bears and save all of your Bear Flanks you loot to sell on the auction house.A friend suggested parking an alternate character at an auction house that is near a mailbox (like the one in Booty Bay) and just mail everything valuable you find on all of your characters to the character that is at the auction house. Then once a day you check your mail, do a scan with auctioneer, and then post all the items you got in the mail to the auction house. This will save a lot of time running back and forth to a city that has an auction house just to sell and item or two. This strategy has worked very well for me and I have made well over 1000 gold in less than a month, playing as I normally do... grinding xp and looting every corpse I find.I hope these tips will be helpful for you in making more gold faster.Happy hunting!
  6. A guildmate and friend who has multiple level seventy characters told me about this guide that tells you where to power level at your current level. James' Alliance Leveling Guide can be found here. James' Horde Leveling Guide can be found here If the above links dont work copy/paste the links from here: Alliance: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Horde: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I hope this helps. I know it helped me tons
  7. I am surprised nobody has mentioned Anarchy Online in this thread. It is a very good mmorpg. I was highly addicted to it for over 6 years. The only reason I stopped playing it is because a friend convinced me to try World of Warcraft and now Im hooked on that. I still play Anarchy Online during the weekly maintenance and other downtimes. Anarchy Online has expansion packs that you can pay for, however the free version of the game has plenty of content to keep you busy for years. The Shadowlands expansion is worth the cost, in my opinion, however once you upgrade to a paid account you have to pay the monthly fee. The good thing about having free accounts is that you can have multiple accounts for free and 'dual log' (run more than one game client at once and play multiple characters at the same time) and team up with eachother, put one character on auto /follow on the other character then go on missions, quests and just kill for experience points. You can power level your alternate characters that way. And since it's free you can make and account just for extra storage space with 'bank toons'. You really have to check it out. It's a fun game.
  8. Mine is a little bulky, however I still prefer carrying it around everywhere instead of a cellphone and separate camera. especially since my digital camera wouldn't even fit in my pocket. Talk about bulky My PocketPC's dimensions: Dimensions: 112.5mm (L) x 58mm (W) x 21.95mm (T) or 4.4" (L) x 2.2" (W) x 0.8" (T) (according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT&T_8525)
  9. A few years ago while leaving class at the local community college I noticed an advertisement posed on the bulletin board about an opportunity to get paid to visit other countries if you had good grades, and spoke English well. Of course I was skeptical, but intrigued. So I asked around and did a little research and it turns out to be legitimate. I'm sure there are requirements to be met but if you are planning to travel the world why not make some money at it in the process. Since this was a while ago I don't remember if you had to be fluent in the local language of the place you'd be visiting already, or if they teach you the second language but either way it sounded like a good opportunity. I didn't look more into the details because at the time I was unavailable for world travel, however as now I am ready to travel the world I would like to know more about this subject.Have you ever participated in a program similar to what I have mentioned? What were your experiences like? What tips, tricks, and suggestions do you have for anyone interested in this prospect?Any questions, comments, suggestions and feedback of any sort are much appreciated. Thanks, and have a great day!
  10. I have been diagnosed with clinical depression. I have found at times that it is hard to concentrate (more often than not). I also have a hard time remembering things. I know that these are typical symptoms of depression but am wondering if depression itself can be considered a learning disability due to it's symptoms and side effects.I have done a little of research on the subject and see many references to people with learning disabilities developing depression because of having learning disabilities. Does anyone know of a good article, or maybe a website with more information about depression causing learning disabilities? I would be very interested to hear more information on the subject. Any feedback is welcome. Thanks, and have a great day!
  11. Which OS are you running? Im on WinXP with SP2 installed. I tried a lot of the commands you listed and none of them worked for me.
  12. You can try booting into safe mode and logging into the Administrator account that is only accessible from safe-mode. From there you should be able to install an anti-virus software, update it, scan and remove virii... then you'll want to download, install, update and run a good spyware scanner. I suggest AVG Anti-Virus, AdAware spyware scanner, and ZoneAlarm is a great firewall. All the above are free for personal (home) use, and cost for business use.
  13. I am currently using my PocketPC as my all around device. I no longer carry my old 2.2 mega pixel bulky camera (Kodak DX3600). It's too bulky and the delay really sucks. My AT&T 8525 has a 2 mega pixel camera, records audio and video as well as all the other neat things like the full slide out qwerty keyboard, touchscreen, web browser, and runs Windows Mobile 5.0. Too bad I can't install Linux on it yet Well, back on topic: cameras. I just got back from a trip to Hawaii in Nov. 2007 and didn't even bring my old Kodak. The pictures from my 8525 turned out pretty well, and I'm actually considering making some calendars and postcards from some of the pictures I took there and selling them on my website... once I get it up and running the way I want. Let me know what you think about the Specialized Camera vs. Camera Phones
  14. I have had lucid dreams too. It's very interesting how the mind works. Everyone's is different so I will share my experiences and maybe they can be applied to your situation when attempting lucid dreams.A lucid dream can begin in one of two ways. A dream-initiated lucid dream (DILD) starts as a normal dream, and the dreamer eventually concludes that he or she is dreaming, while a wake-initiated lucid dream (WILD) occurs when the dreamer goes from a normal waking state directly into a dream state with no apparent lapse in consciousness. I have only had a few experiences with lucid dreams, and all have been DILDs. In each instance i was involved in a shocking situation where i was in immediate danger or caught doing something really bad. I almost woke up from the shock and in the process I told myself, still asleep, "This is just a dream. I can't get hurt here (or in trouble, depending on the situation). Just relax and do what you want." And that's how I have initiated lucid dreams in the past. Hopefully these will happen more frequently so I can practice the control of my dreams. So far it has just been random dreams that happen to have a common factor; something stressful that brings me to the point of almost waking up but not completely.Good luck and have fun with your lucid dreams
  15. Firefox... of course. I'm running a dual boot WindowsXP running SP2 and Fedora Core 5 Linux (considering switching to Ubuntu 8). i use firefox all the time, both in Windows and Linux. I only use Internet Explorer to install windows updates, and only because there is no other way.
  16. We should have a section dedicated to financial information, questions, comments and suggestions. A possible subsection of the Finance section could be the Identity Theft section where people could inform others of the risks the pose when divulging personal information to untrusted and unencrypted websites, restaurants, vendors, etc. I wanted to post information on this topic but could not find a suitable section to post in. Maybe I didn't read closely enough... if so, maybe i can post here and the moderators can move my post, or quote me in the proper forum: Identity Theft and You: What is identity theft?Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personally identifying information, like your name, Social Security number, or credit card number, without your permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC)estimates that as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen each year. In fact, you or someone you know may have experienced some form of identity theft. The crime takes many forms. Identity thieves may rent an apartment, obtain a credit card, or establish a telephone account in your name. You may not find out about the theft until you review your credit report or a credit card statement and notice charges you didnt makeor until youre contacted by a debt collector. Identity theft is serious. While some identity theft victims can resolve their problems quickly, others spend hundreds of dollars and many days repairing damage to their good name and credit record. Some consumers victimized by identity theft may lose out on job opportunities, or be denied loans for education, housing or cars because of negative information on their credit reports. In rare cases, they may even be arrested for crimes they did not commit. How do thieves steal an identity? Identity theft starts with the misuse of your personally identifying information such as your name and Social Security number, credit card numbers, or other financial account information. For identity thieves, this information is as good as gold. Skilled identity thieves may use a variety of methods to get hold of your information, including: 1. Dumpster Diving. They rummage through trash looking for bills or other paper with your personal information on it. 2. Skimming. They steal credit/debit card numbers by using a special storage device when processing your card. 3. Phishing. They pretend to be financial institutions or companies and send spam or pop-up messages to get you to reveal your personal information. 4. Changing Your Address. They divert your billing statements to another location by completing a change of address form. 5. Old-Fashioned Stealing. They steal wallets and purses; mail, including bank and credit card statements; pre-approved credit offers; and new checks or tax information. They steal personnel records, or bribe employees who have access. 6. Pretexting. They use false pretenses to obtain your personal information from financial institutions, telephone companies, and other sources. What do thieves do with a stolen identity? Once they have your personal information, identity thieves use it in a variety of ways. Credit card fraud: * They may open new credit card accounts in your name. When they use the cards and don't pay the bills, the delinquent accounts appear on your credit report. * They may change the billing address on your credit card so that you no longer receive bills, and then run up charges on your account. Because your bills are now sent to a different address, it may be some time before you realize there's a problem. Phone or utilities fraud: * They may open a new phone or wireless account in your name, or run up charges on your existing account. * They may use your name to get utility services like electricity, heating, or cable TV. Bank/finance fraud: * They may create counterfeit checks using your name or account number. * They may open a bank account in your name and write bad checks. * They may clone your ATM or debit card and make electronic withdrawals your name, draining your accounts. * They may take out a loan in your name. Government documents fraud: * They may get a driver's license or official ID card issued in your name but with their picture. * They may use your name and Social Security number to get government benefits. * They may file a fraudulent tax return using your information. Other fraud: * They may get a job using your Social Security number. * They may rent a house or get medical services using your name. * They may give your personal information to police during an arrest. If they don't show up for their court date, a warrant for arrest is issued in your name. How can you find out if your identity was stolen? The best way to find out is to monitor your accounts and bank statements each month, and check your credit report on a regular basis. If you check your credit report regularly, you may be able to limit the damage caused by identity theft. For more information, visit the Detect Identity Theft section. Unfortunately, many consumers learn that their identity has been stolen after some damage has been done. * You may find out when bill collection agencies contact you for overdue debts you never incurred. * You may find out when you apply for a mortgage or car loan and learn that problems with your credit history are holding up the loan. * You may find out when you get something in the mail about an apartment you never rented, a house you never bought, or a job you never held. What should you do if your identity is stolen? Filing a police report, checking your credit reports, notifying creditors, and disputing any unauthorized transactions are some of the steps you must take immediately to restore your good name. Should you file a police report if your identity is stolen? A police report that provides specific details of the identity theft is considered an Identity Theft Report, which entitles you to certain legal rights when it is provided to the three major credit reporting agencies or to companies where the thief misused your information. An Identity Theft Report can be used to permanently block fraudulent information that results from identity theft, such as accounts or addresses, from appearing on your credit report. It will also make sure these debts do not reappear on your credit reports. Identity Theft Reports can prevent a company from continuing to collect debts that result from identity theft, or selling them to others for collection. An Identity Theft Report is also needed to place an extended fraud alert on your credit report. You may not need an Identity Theft Report if the thief made charges on an existing account and you have been able to work with the company to resolve the dispute. Where an identity thief has opened new accounts in your name, or where fraudulent charges have been reported to the consumer reporting agencies, you should obtain an Identity Theft Report so that you can take advantage of the protections you are entitled to. In order for a police report to entitle you to the legal rights mentioned above, it must contain specific details about the identity theft. You should file an ID Theft Complaint with the FTC and bring your printed ID Theft Complaint with you to the police station when you file your police report. The printed ID Theft Complaint can be used to support your local police report to ensure that it includes the detail required. A police report is also needed to get copies of the thiefs application, as well as transaction information from companies that dealt with the thief. To get this information, you must submit a request in writing, accompanied by the police report, to the address specified by the company for this purpose. How long can the effects of identity theft last? It's difficult to predict how long the effects of identity theft may linger. That's because it depends on many factors including the type of theft, whether the thief sold or passed your information on to other thieves, whether the thief is caught, and problems related to correcting your credit report. Victims of identity theft should monitor financial records for several months after they discover the crime. Victims should review their credit reports once every three months in the first year of the theft, and once a year thereafter. Stay alert for other signs of identity theft. Don't delay in correcting your records and contacting all companies that opened fraudulent accounts. Make the initial contact by phone, even though you will normally need to follow up in writing. The longer the inaccurate information goes uncorrected, the longer it will take to resolve the problem. What can you do to help fight identity theft? Awareness is an effective weapon against many forms identity theft. Be aware of how information is stolen and what you can do to protect yours, monitor your personal information to uncover any problems quickly, and know what to do when you suspect your identity has been stolen. Armed with the knowledge of how to protect yourself and take action, you can make identity thieves' jobs much more difficult. You can also help fight identity theft by educating your friends, family, and members of your community. The FTC has prepared a collection of easy-to-use materials to enable anyone regardless of existing knowledge about identity theft to inform others about this serious crime. Remember, only you can prevent identity theft!
  17. Have you ever used an application or played a game and thought, "If you could only..." or "If I knew how I would add..." but didn't know where to start? I did and decided to do a lil research. I came across a site with great tutorials. There are many ranging from beginner all the way to advanced. After each tutorial there is a test to practice what you just learned. I dunno if I am allowed to post the url to these sites here due to spam filters but I will say that if you search for "c programming" in any major search engine it should be the first link (after the sponsored links). I also like the tutorials found at w3schools for HTML, CSS and many other web scripting. It has a web based WYSiWYG 'side by side' editor that helps teach you by example.I hope htese links helped you as much as they did me.Let me know what you think.
  18. Naughty naughty ...don't you know that private servers on World of Warcraft is illegal. To each his (or her) own, I guess.
  19. I have an AT&T 8525. It's a PocketPC running Windows Mobile 5.0, slider with a full qwerty keyboard, 2 GB MicroSD card (not included with purchase), bluetooth, infared and WiFi capabilities. I have a unlimited data plan and use my phone as a tethered modem with my laptop to get online when there is no WiFi available.I mainly use mine for phone calls, address book, calendar/planner, calculator, games, music and video player.Does anyone have a similar set up? What do you use your phone for?
  20. Homosexuality and Depression: I know from first hand experience how frustrating it can be growing up in a mainly heterosexual world and have dealt with many prejudices. Some people seem to prejudge us just by what we wear, or mannerisms, how our hair is cut and the car we drive. With all this prejudice in the world it can be even more tough if you are homosexual. The trick is to not care what other people think. I know, easier said than done... but if i can do it so can you. Having trouble? Find a local support group. PFLAG (Parents and friends of lesbians and gays) is a great start if you are planning on coming out, or if you already have and need someone to talk to for advice, support and a shoulder to cry on. The also help parents and friends that are having a hard time with he fact that a loved one is gay. Another good resource is online support groups. The sometimes provide online counseling and live chat. Others are just forum based. Whichever way you decide to go it always helps to have someone to talk to when you get depressed. Low income people may want to contact their local social services to find out if they are eligible for free or discounted therapy, counseling and other medical and mental health services. For example, my case manager directed me to the county mental health services and I got free therapy through my home county. She also provided me with information about how to get most of my medications free. Considering the fact that the program is saving me over $1300 a month in HIV and depression medications it's really a life saver. I hope that this post is helpful to anyone that reads it. Do you have any questions, comments, suggestions or any contributions to this post? I, and anyone interested in this subject would love to hear them and we appreciate your feedback. Have a great day!
