great good luck on the referendum... by the way, did you notice that the article says that the brazilian arms industries lobby received additional funds from the US National Rifle Association? -
Nuclear War Scenarios ...who will start it?
brainless replied to brainless's topic in General Discussion
and once again, the USA are about to move another step to a third nuclear strike ... As the Washington Post reports, a new nuclear strike plan has been worked out by the Pentagon but hasn't been approved by Donald Rumsfeld yet. This draft plan contains so many situations in which military commanders may ask the president for permission to use nuclear weapons that it would be possible to use nukes against about anyone... As everyone except for conspiracy theorists knows now, there were no WMD stockpiles in the Iraq since a couple of years -- but until late 2004, George W. and his comrades stuck to their lies which were not even backed by false intelligence reports (contrary, publicly available CIA reports stated that there was nothing but rumors)......and if this doctrine would have been in use 3 years ago, Kabul and Baghdad would look like Hiroshima and Nagasaki now -> Washington Post Article: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -> "Doctrine for Joint Nuclear Operations" [i had to create a mirror on rapidshare since I didn't want to steal the guy I got it from's bandwidth]: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -
I've just searched for a link giving more detailed information on the case and posted it here; I did not mean to attack you in anyway (I appreciate that you felt the urge to post this story here since this has neither been published in the german press nor on the german indymedia site yet :/). As this has not been on german news (yet?), I dare to say that this story might not have leaked to other parts of the world as well, therefore we would have had to rely on your post, backed by nothing but your quotiation of "TV news" which is, excuse me, not too reliable since scientific research showed that the average person memorizes only about 10% of what is said on the TV. I have to admit, choosing the first google search result for <"scott parkin" melbourne "peace activist"> wasn't too good since many people have prejudices towards marxism and therefore tend to not believe information published on a marxist mailing list. well, here's the ABC article for all those who don't want to hear stories from marxist mailing lists: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I'll just quote someone whose name I've unfortunately forgotten, it says about the same as you said:

sounds great ... though it will increase the demand for electricity a lot, which will have to be produced somehow. An ideal addition to buying this car might be a solar panel to power the built-in compressor...

I'm not sure about the emulator's licence [there might be a clause like "you've gotta own one of these machines to use the emulator"] but AFAIK there are free calculator emulators available on ti.com ... I got the TI-83 for school and did some of my homework using the emulator, too...

AFAIK it's true, it was all across my favorite news sites a couple of months ago and it was also on the NASA website ... sounds like it's good for a story everytime there's nothing new, just like the tenth planet in our solar system (either they were talking about the same planet last year and this year or they've found and eleventh...)

forgiven, opaque ... anyways, I maintain a hosting credit backup of at least 30 days 'cause I know that it happens every once in a while that I simply disappear for a week or two - and gues what would happen right the moment I come back? right, something breaks down and takes ages to be fixed

panda: "martial law" is the right spelling... These 2080+ people are part of a crowd which killed more than 100,000 people in the time between 6 months after the war began and late 2004 (so the actual number of dead Iraqis is probably something around 150,000 now), remember this (there is no official body count so scientists had to rely on a method which has already been used in the Kosovo and in those times was accepted as well working by US officials). By now it And President Hussein didn't have weapons of mass destructions anymore since 1992 as his reports, which were verified by UN inspectors; and 13 years later a speech held by George proved...

...add another entry to my record: On Saturday we were attacked with tear gas [i didn't see why - all we did was yelling at the nazis on the next street, noone was throwing anything]; I got pepper sprayed [while me and some other people tried to break through a police line] and a bavarian robo cop stepped on my left leg while we were lying on the street even though there was some clear space right behind me where he could've run through just as well :/

hey, that "it _will_ hurt" is my sentence ... oh, ok, you've changed the spelling great work. Some additions:* To make matches somewhat waterproof, you can cover the heads or even all of the match in wax. Make sure you scrape it off before you try to use them, otherwise it will be hard to light it.* If you get a fire going, try to keep it burning. Most of the times it's easier to cut some more wood than lighting a new fire.* It might be handy to have a kerosene- or petroleum-run lighter and a small refill pack (a 125ml can is only slightly larger than a mobile phone from 4-5 years ago). More expensive than matches but very convenient.* Take your mobile phone with you but try to keep it switched off if you don't really need to make an emergency call. With everyone else trying to tell rescue teams where they are or give relatives a sign of life, the network will be somewhat near its limits, if it works at all.* If you can expext to spend more than a few hours away from your home, take a sleeping bag with you (it's possible to sleep outside without one but it's very comfortable to have one.)* USE YOUR BRAINS, if you have. Some things I have seen people trying (or attempted to do myself) are plain stupid.

well, actually the problem was already kind of solved until an, excuse my french, ignorant head of state decided that the money for it could be used more destructive: As you pointed out, New Orleans is almost completely built on grounds lower than sea level. To stop water from the sea flowing into the city, dykes were built all along the coast (just like in the Netherlands, where almost all of the country is below sea level). Unfortunately, the earth below the dykes is very wet and can't hold the *person*'s weight, so the *person* slowly sinks down. Therefore it has to be renewed every, or at least every other year - this was supposed to be done last year but then the funds were taken from *person* repairing to the Department of Homeland Security and the war against Iraq. Given that the war on Iraq is already somewhat expensive for the US, I can not understand why someone decided that the US can't afford to spend 745 million dollars over a couple of years on an effective homeland protection when the war against Iraq consumes that much within a few days. Last year, the army engineer in charge of the *person* project, Al Naomi, said about the budget cuts "I can not tell exactly what this will mean when we get a heavy storm during the hurricane season but I can tell you that we'd make a better stand with intact dykes." (1) ok, so the government ordered to evacuate the city days before the storm arrived but: People were simply ordered to leave and did not receive any support from those who were supposed to protect them, therefore the poor people amongst the city's population were unable to leave due to the costs. As some of you can probably tell, quite a lot of those who could have been able to pay for leaving the city didn't do so because this would have left a huge cut in their budget... anyways, as a good Christian, I can only welcome the total devastation of New Orleans (2) =/ (1) Unfortunately, I have only a german source for this and had to re-translate it myself: http://www.freace.de/artikel/200509/010905b.html (2) http://www.repentamerica.com/pr_hurricanekatrina.html

well, I like the old Green Day, Warning and Nimrod were quite cool though I think they've jumped on the "Bush is a bad guy"-train a little too late to be taken seriously...but it's kinda funny to meet people quoting "don't wanna live in a nation controlled by the media" from American Idiot and saying "it must have been like this 'cause the news paper says so and you're wrong 'cause indymedia is not to be taken seriously" within one breath. Seems like they didn't even get it when they were pushed on it with their nose first

it's not that I condemn these actions ... but be warned: the rapidshare folks will implement a new authentification mechanism pretty soon when this crack is being spread too openly...(by the way: rapidshare works pretty fine for me without sneaking into the paying-customrs-only-section...)

Iraq And Vietnam Is it right to pull out of Iraq?
brainless replied to Kim's topic in General Discussion
thanks kasm, that was just about what I was going to say ;)by the way, a majority of the Iraqi people would like to see the Coalition of the Blind leaving; fulfill the people's bidding would really hand the country over to the insurgents - because they're fighting for exactly this: a free Iraq, not an Iraq governed by ruthless murderers... -
Yes, I've used quite a lot of marihuana until a couple of months ago, I've even raised my own plant. It can be a really great feeling to be totally stoned and look at something like flashing lights ... but as most of you might understand, I've noticed that I began to abuse my weed tea and gave my plant to a friend of mine, and the best thing: She fully supports my decision to reduce my weed usage drastically and promised to keep an eye on the amount of weed I take from her to make up for the plant ... and just to make sure that I'm still in control of my mind and body I'll try three weed-free months from September 1st to December 31st and we'll see whether I drop the weed completely or have a new year's tea with her ;)I suppose it'll end up like my drinking habits - only on special occasions [which happen less than once a month] =)

well ... I didn't get arrested yet, even though I was supposed to a couple of times now or at least I think so because we're usually moving in a group of 4 or 5 and therefore noone of us is sure who's supposed to be arrested) - we learn: Fast feet are made for running, not for kicking cops I suppose they've got me on tape but they haven't been able to identify me yet (those were for nothing serious, just "trespassing" because me and some other people refused to clear a road for a hand full of people surrounded by hundreds of riot cops but the traffic would've been blocked anyway...)I could've gotten some UAD citations but fortunately they just send you home in Germany instead of arresting you...

peaktao: you're after too much work, 4-5 hours wok everyday are more than enough though I have to admit that I like being productive in my free time, it's just that I don't produce large enough quantities to sell stuff and after all, I don't even want to sell stuff 'cause I'm just making stuff for me and some friends of mine...In the last couple of months, my sleeping habits have changed dramatically - a few months ago, when I was still in school, I didn't go to bed until 2 or 3am and had to get up at 6. You can imagine how my performance in school was but for some reason I felt great after school......nowadays I go to bed when I feel tired (I've managed to make this be about 1am) and you might not believe it but I usually wake up 2 or 3 minutes before my alarm clock rings (8:37 am). Simply doubling the amount of sleep I have everyday increased my energy a lot, I've even stopped taking caffeine

yeah, paintball's so combat...B-T: you should think about whether you really want to gain real life combat experience since it's not that funny anymore when your health depends on how well you do. Paintball is safe, very safe, if you and your mates don't do anything more stupid than shooting paint at each other (like taking off the glasses and stuff).I've been in some places where some people thought they'd have to get in trouble with the police (for a cause which I believe in, too, but with means I do not support). Yes, the adrenaline rush feels great but it's not that great to be in a non-violent mass which is being attacked with water, gloved fists, steel-plated boots, batons, rubber bullets and chemical weapons just because a few people think it's fun to throw bottles at cops. Luckily I always got out of those situations without being seriously injured yet (yep, better to run fast than being in the riot cops' way), but others were not that lucky or even risked being injured by holding their place...

That our current government decided to legalise gay marriages was, IMHO, one of the few (very few) good things what they've done since they received the power. To answer your question: Would I be bad if I didn't want to be near someone who is an Asian? well, I respect everyone's origin but couldn't you just all stay where you've come from? don't worry, in ancient Greece, homosexual relationships were widely accepted (at least among males, I don't know about any documented lesbian relationship in those times) ... can't have been too wrong since the Greek didn't cease to exist due to lack of children but for some lost wars - but even though their empire has been smashed, they're still commonly known as one of the founding people of today's "western" culture... ----- btw, I did not vote yet because I didn't understand the question's meaning -- in which kind of way I'm supposed to [or not to] "believe in homophobia", does "yes" mean I believe it exists, does it mean I am homophob, ...? anyways, I consider myself to be quite liberal and since I'm part of some groups which are considered "strange" by an overwhelming part of society, it would be kind of suicide to close my mind for other people who are not "normal". Unfortunately, I have noticed that asexuality is considered dangerous by many gays and lesbians as well :/

What Is The Smallest Usable Os a.k.a. DSL
brainless replied to melkonianarg's topic in General Discussion
just a small hint - those OSes from a time long passed should be bootable from 720k-floppies or smaller disks; there was a time when 720k was much and Bill Gates said that 640KB of RAM would be more than necessary for every user... just imagine how fast an OS from those times would run on modern machines, if it boots at all -
wait till you've grown up young lad, just wait :)Since I can't stand the taste of alcoholic beverages with less than approximately 35% and refuse to buy the stuff myself, I drink only occasionally. But even though I drink it rarely, I've always got a bottle of Vodka or something alike around 'cause it's a great desinfectant in small portions (soak a piece of cloth with it and clean the area around the cut; my personal experience is a better healing process than when I clean it with water...)

I didn't have to go to youth court (neither as accused nor as victim nor as witness) yet, even though my record of misdeeds is long enough for many, many hours of community service (though I could face a prison sentence for some of the things I've done if I'd get an unfair judge)......but don't bother asking, I'm not as stupid as shouting out in public what major offences I've participated in, I can just tell you I'm happy and lucky about the fact that I'm trying to stick to the laws since a couple of months (some people I know got busted about two months ago but since I didn't have contact to them for about a year now; didn't face a cop since then and didn't hear that someone's looking for me, I feel quite safe )...

ok, one thing before I post the story: Usually, I don't refer to chinese official sources because it's often hard to validate those through other sources. In this case however, I was lucky to stumble over a news post with nearly identical content on the german press agency's (dpa) website , which has already been replaced by more recent news, so I feel safe to refer to the chinese news agency Xinhua. According to this (1) article, This incident happened while another incident from last week's Tuesday, in which 4 US soldiers have been killed and others injured by a roadside bomb explosion followed by RPG and gunfire was investigated. There have been many reports about US soldiers kidnapping family members of people they're searching for but this is the first known case in which children have been the targets of an US raid...
