  1. halo is a pain to play on pc and requires some nice hardware to run smoothly. i had problems on a 5200 and a 2600XP+ and it only runs smooth on my new 64 bit system with an OC'd 6600GT (handles it just as well un-overclocked) basicly you will need a 2ghz+ CPU, i would recomend no less than 512 MB of ram and a midrange card to get it working, a 5700U, 5900XT, 9600XT, 9700P or if your thinking of upgrading and can aford to spend a little more got for a 6600GT as they kick some serious *bottom* (beats a X800 in most games ) basicly you may be needing a total system upgrade

  3. ok heres where intell are corupting your mind mhz does not = performance. you see with the introduction of the P4, intell lowered the amount of work the processor does per clock cycle so they would get fater speeds. so while my friends 2.8ghz C class processor runs at 2.8ghz my 3200 @ 2 ghz will oup preform him easierly. let me put it this way what is better moving a ton of sand each hour in 1 go ot moving 1g of sand 5000 times in a hour...this is how a P4 works. it does less work so it can do more cycles... personally i think that AMD's 64 chips are better simply beacause there isnt the risk of the chip melting through the motherboard. then the case and into the floor of your house
  4. read the leadup story to this at mega games, looks promising but it will probably be a while before they become userful in a gaming computer, unless you really want to run 2 games at one...
  5. my segestion get a XFX 6600GT AGP. this car will be great for games (run just about any setting you like, i run CS:S at 1024x768 with everything maxed out 6xaa and 16xaf at over 100fps) this card is AGP, will last for ages and is a great performer without spending a heap of money, it beats the pants off my friends x800Pro aswell. the XFX has a better heatsink and a 100mhz overclock on the ram to 1ghz from 900mhz wich gives a boost, and if your game you could do what i have done and bumped the ram upto 1.6ghz for true power lol. but seriously its a great performer and is well priced aswell suporting all the advanced features of the NVIDIA 6 series. i would stay away from ATI unless your looking for something around a 9600XT sort of area, but again better to spend the cash and get the 6600GT
  6. not 100% sure but i think you can get plugins etc to reas NTFS properly and also to write but the writing can screw things up if your not careful
  7. i can tell you that you have something wrong i have a XFX6600GT and although it does have 1000mhz mem clock compared to your 900mhz mem speed i can run CS Source at 1024x768 in detail maxed out and 6xaa and 16xaf at over 100FPS no troubles. i mean i overclocked a friends mx440 so it ran source at medium detail at over 100fps and the 6600GT is a great card, mine benchmarks better than my friends X800Pro and it is generally faster. along with this there is also a heap of headroom, iv had mine at 580/1200 mhz (core/mem) (500/900 standard) and i have had no problems, although it needs a volt mod to get this performance. mine is an AGP model though not that that shouldnt make a difference.... im guesssing that you are still running onboard of your card is a dud
  8. ok well i know that this is going to be a real pain but i segest that you backup all of your data (not everything just the stuf that you dont want to lose or cant install again. download all of the updates that you will need for your new computer and any programs (fire walls, antivirus etc) then go ahead and reformatt your computer. this will probably take some time so if you dont really want to do it then you could just do a unattended install ( extract deploy.cab to you hdd becore you reformatt (its on the windows XP professional CD) and then run the wizard.) this wizard creates a disk which automaticly answers all of the questions that the windows has while installing. one you have reformatted install all of your drivers for everything and then antivirus. one this is done get updating windows and your antivirus stuf. remember to turn automatic updates on on everything and that should keep everything running smoothly. after this you can install all of your other programs and restore your files. it may be a good idea to set sceduled tasks to scan yhour computer etc. the main this with computers is that a little maintainance saves you heaps of time. defrag regulary, keep everything updated and scan for spyware and viruses regulary. and whatever you do try not to install any P2P programs because this is like putting a signe above your computer saying "look give me viruses um unprotected"im not sure what you have done in the past but if you dont want to use that option then you could try using a backup point which is from when you first bought the computer. you may have one or you may not, if you do just backup your stuf and roll back. this is probably the easiest way but if you cant do this then i would segest a fress start and a re-formatt.
  9. I have played some of Suikoden 2 i think and its a pretty good game, but my favourite RPG of all time is the elder scrolls 3 morrowind.... simple because it is such an open and varied game, sure, it has more than its fair share of bugs and the combat is somewhat dull, however it is what a true RPG should be....Do exacly what you want thwn you want and how you want. sure some people may find it bouring because its not as structured as other games but i find that this freedom is what makes a good RPG if not we just have a story driven fighting game not a really interesting RPG where you sculpt your characture from begining to end, and then this charactures grows with you. you have something that is personal not just a random characture which you can make a few chamges to.
  10. really helpful, if you looking to buy or if your like me and already have a 64 bit processor. im suprised that it has the dates for the new frocessors but then im guessing you have goten that straight from AMD
  11. stupid things.... netsending is pretty lame compared to gaining control of all the students start menue folder ( on the server, scholl was running a domain) and then chaging the office shortcuts to a VB script that loged people off... me and a firend did that and only he got the blame.... although on our private Microsoft XP training Computers i have been fiderling with remotly actervating tell net and then using computer after computer to do the same only in a trail and then loging someone off.... works pretty well, a friend in the class showed me how to do it but when i tried it on my home computer is corupted my windows install (you need a file that remotly enables tellnet but it is stoped by most firewalls so its only really hanndy in an enclosed network environment...... sure its all fun and games but remember at most places like this if you get caught you will be booted off the network for a while......
  12. Fire fox is great once you have tweaked it and i dont have problems like i did with IE... i would like to see the day when most of the market is using firefox because then maby microsoft will realise that they cant just throw in some ad blocking and more bloatware and say thats its still the best browser (IE that is)
  13. im also guessing that since ATI cards run Source better than Nvidia cards that it would not take a very powerful ATI car to run Source respectfully
  14. sure does sound interesting, but as others have said qupted batery life is never as good as it actully is
  15. 120 on this computer and another 120 on my backup computer although my good computer has died a few times so no i have a 5gb windows partition and the rest is actully used for files

  17. yep connecting through the IP normally works if they have blocked out the actual URL but if they have completly blocked the site then you might have some trouble....
  18. screenshots are a big help and most of those image shake and photobucket etc are free and easy to use. iv only been playing around with 3d's max a littlebit but i am finding that tutorials which say "just go here then here etc" rather than showing step by step directions tend to lose a novice like me. despite this i think that your tutorial is well writen and if i get some spare time i may have a play and see what i get
  19. i find that if you give it a few sencons it tends to load fine, however if you just get anoyed and start mashing the resfrsh and back butons then you normally run into problems. i find that it is a adobe problem and that is is Acrobat Reader that is crashing not firefox. also do you have the latest version, as unlike microsoft they are normally pretty quick to fix things
  20. Cry engine is amizing, sure you have to have the 1.3 patch to get the most out of it and a NVIDIA 6 series or new ATI card to power then thing, but the jungle detail and the water is amazing, mind you the water efects in Source do look good. on midrange cards the source engine looks better because it is easier on resoruces etc, but if you are like me and have a overclocked 6600GT (1ghz RAM ) then i beleive the Cry Engine does a superior job of rendering outdoor environments. sure Doom 3 has some fancy bumpmapping, but its outdoor rending is unproven
  21. um well im guessing you want Dos to just play around with etc, if you have the cash i would segest you get yourself a copy of virtual PC, great program and if you dont have too much running and a desent amout of ram it doenst take too much of a performance hit. that way its totally seperate and if you seriously screw something up in dos then at worst you ahve to delete the virtual machien..... i have had 2 copies of XP running because my main one was buged with its 16bit dos processes and although it took a while to install i didnt see to much of a problem. they say you need 256mb of ram for the amin and then 128mb for each virtual after that but i would segest 512 for the real and 256mb if you want to run anything fast... although dos isnt as bloatware infected as most other things... hope that helped and sory for the bump
  22. just goes to show what happens when you slow down for a few weeks lol you have a test of longhorn? damn, im not sure how long you have had it but i thought any serious longhorn releases (i asume its a beta) was way off.... oh well there goes another resource hoging bloatware infected microsoft OS
  23. um i think i was reading a little about it somewhere... toms hardware i think although that was early in the morning so im not 100% sure what it said lol... mini HDD's have an advantage over flash in they they normally store more data, howver they are normally heavier even this 5gb one is probably heavier than my flash drive..... i guess its what you need it for, if you do stransfer lots of data then a portable hdd would be handy but if your like most of us and just have a few MP3's and small picture and txt files then the extra cost is not realy worth it, the only time i can see myself really using a heavy full portavle hdd is for backup up my hdd but how often do you do that (not often enough im guessing) you really have to look at what you need it for and how much use your going to get out of it.... i know its strange but i could probably get away with a 30c 1.4mb floppy drive rather than my 256mb memory stick
