  1. I really don't agree with the carrier policy on phones. On two-year-long or one-year-long contract they look like banks... they profit from the costs of the phone and from the cost of the service. They pack everything up to look like it was cheaper, but on the long run (two-year-long) you actually pay more on the phone then you would do upfront. It's just like a credit with interest. That wouldn't be a problem if they wouldn't also make money on the calls you actually make.

This is a hard one to hit on. While what you're saying is probably true in some respects, there are a lot of them that they lose money on. Especially when they do the $0.00 costs with the contracts. Some of them you have to pay for they definitely lose money on up-front as well, being that they have to put money towards not only that phone, but also to development and other things for new features and upgrades.

Keep in mind you can always get a "prepaid" plan and never have to worry about being locked into any type of contract.

  2. I also used to drink too much coke but now I limit its consumption as I read many articles where it is stated that coke is harmful for our body. It contains caffeine which is not good for our body.

Almost any type of drink has caffeine. It's a lot like c4l said though, it's not about the fact you drink it, it's how MUCH you drink. Anything in massive excess is going to be bad, regardless of how neutral or "good" it was prior.

  3. As someone said... if you are a camper and a bear attacks you don't have to be the fastest camper, just faster then the last one. ^_^
I also think the shark attack subject is highly overrated. Just like the plane crashes a case is sufficient to create in a global scare of the sharks. Of course they occasionally attack, but on a global scale the chances are extremely slim. Even if you live by a shark infested beach I'm sure there are more chances you die in a car accident then by a shark attack. But I guess for the media its for more thrilling to get a news about a tourist being the dinner of a shark then a car accident with fatalities.

In my country two weeks ago there was a huge media roar on a couple of bear attacks. In one case a bear was cough in a trap and the hunter (illegal of course) thought about poking the bear to death with a stick at which end he fixed a knife. Pointless to say it really annoyed the bear and somehow escaped the trap and showed the poor men who is in charge. Happy to say they haven't killed the bear afterwards as they usually do after an attack. Of course after watching this kind of news you'll think bears are the main cause of death for people living near woods. False of course.

The difference here is that when you bring bears into the equation, you're talking about very different primal instincts. Sharks are like most animals; they eat when they're hungry. Alligators and crocodiles as well. Bears, on the other hand, maim to kill, with no apparent purpose other than that. They don't eat humans (I don't think). They just enjoy the sport. So while sharks aren't something to really worry about, bears most definitely are.

  4. Glad you have finally managed to get the book you wanted. Maybe they have changed something in the script of their website to acceptan address like yours. When it comes to their profit, I'm sure Amazon is very efficient. ;) And I am sure you are not the only one with this kind of issue.

How is that your credit card company declined the payment? Did you actually pay on credit? I don't live in the US, but I never had a transaction blocked by the credit card company. And I do buy a huge lot on eBay and Amazon. Or maybe that is exactly why the transaction was unusual...

They usually declare anything as unusual if it's out of the norm. Ex. if you're always buying stuff in one area and then magically a charge comes up from someplace very far from your norm. This also happens when you don't spend much and then do a major purchase, or other things. Basically the system tries to pick up on anything abnormal (at least is my understanding).

  5. The business world has been revolutionized because of the incorporation of the latest trends in technology. The internet , like in every other field, has managed to establish itself in the area of business also. The progress in the field of internet has directly benefited the information and communication field directly and the business transactions indirectly.
People who are dedicated towards ecommerce, consider that marketing their company and their services on social networking sites like Facebook,Twitter,Youtube etc. thus creating sub divisions in ecommerce itself like social commerce, which is a way of promoting a business via social media and social shopping where the consumers and sellers are brought into contact. Moreover, the analysis and sharing experiences of shopping events online, takes place over social media and both buyers and sellers can establish contact with each other on these sites.Besides that, social networking sites also help create awareness in certain cases create reliability for particular products.

Do you agree about the effect that social media casts on ecommerce altogether? Or you have a different view to share?

Oddly enough, there's been a lot of studies that seem to show that social media does not really influence the buying decision of people. I think it's the opposite (I mean, if someone you know has a good review of something, I'd think you would be more inclined to get it as well) but that's what people say.

  6. The Apple iPhone was a revolution when it was introduced because no smart phone manufacturer wanted to cross the price barrier at the time and the use of capacitive touch screens, brush aluminium casings, and a revolutionary new operating system interface and app store were the package for disaster when you considered the price of such a device. Between a computer and a phone that cost the same, most people would have thought that the average person's intelligence would tell him or her to buy a cheap cell phone and a laptop computer for about the same price as an expensive smart phone. Apple decided to go ahead with the idea anyway just as it did in the past with expensive Macintosh computers. However, this time Apple's fortunes were much much better and people actually wanted to get an iPhone despite its price tag. The adoption started because of the carrier subsidies - people eventually paid the price of the phone because of the two-year-long or one-year-long contract that they had with the carrier, but the up-front costs were really low when compared with to the features that the phone had to offer and the lump-sum cost of other smart phones of the time.
BTW, you do not really need iTunes to use an iPhone. You can transfer files to it as though it were a USB device. However, you do need to use iTunes for upgrading the iOS operating system on the iPhone and if you want to install applications on the iPhone using your computer instead of downloading them directly onto the iPhone. The former is probably something that you absolutely would need to use iTunes for but you can just install it whenever a new version of iOS becomes available, install the new iOS onto your iPhone, and then uninstall iTunes till the next version of the iOS operating system comes along which would be at least six months to a year unless they discover some really nasty security bug that they have to fix or your carrier decides to send across its own patch for the iOS, such as for locking it to their network or for installing software to spy on you as a result of government regulations.

I wasn't even thinking about the upgrading of the OS with my post; that's a good point. Luckily though, with the ability to upgrade the OS through the device itself, there's no need for iTunes again.

  7. Apps are also a great way to tie things together with your site. With how many people use their phones to go online now, creating custom apps for your site can help keep and drive traffic. One of these days I need to get involved with it. Just been so busy with my other projects that I haven't gotten the chance to delve into it yet!

  8. Well, amazingly enough I finally got the book for my friend. And the annoying thing is that I just went to the site the next day, did my address exactly like I had done the day before, and this time it took it. Good grief! I sure can't figure out what went wrong. And as if I hadn't had enough aggrivation ordering this stupid book, a day or 2 after I ordered it my credit card company declined the payment! Ok, I should appreciate the credit card company protecting me by not accepting unusual orders on my credit card, since a book is a far cry from the usual dog vaccine I normally order, but it meant another 30 minutes on hold with the credit card company to straighten it out. For a lousy $4 book. I often wonder why simple things can turn into such a huge ordeal.

Sounds like you've had some bad luck all-around! And the credit card situation, while it's annoying, is there for your benefit. I got annoyed on a trip I went on because I tried to use my credit card for something and I was told it was declined. Called my credit card company and they said they blocked the account since it was being used across the country from where I live. I was able to unblock it within a couple minutes. And while it was annoying, it was also relaxing to know they had me protected automatically.

  9. Hi!
The credit system is definitely working. I do not post all that often, but when I do post I find that the credit system does not give me credits right away, but in a couple of days I do receive an email telling me that I have got credits added to my account for posting. It may take a bit of time, but slowly and surely it will evaluate your posts and give you the credit that is due.

It would be pretty neat if we could transfer credits between user accounts though. It could emerge into a kind of a market place.

While I think that would be a cool idea, I think the reason behind not allowing it is people would possibly try to sell their mycents for cash or something. Though I think it'd be awesome to offer up a sort of bounty for help and stuff (ex. "help with this script -- I'll give $5.50 in mycents").

  10. Hey, thanks for explaining what the regular expressions are. But I think it'd be more helpful to give a small tutorial/explanation on how to actually use them. For example, I know what they are but have no idea how to create them on my own.

  11. I agree E-mail marketing is a marketing strategy where we can directly communicate with our potential customers and get a feed back from them about our products and services through sending them e-mails. A feed back will also help in enhancing our product according to their demands and it builds a sense of trust among the customers.

This is true. The tough part is utilizing it properly though. Just because you're sending out emails to people doesn't mean that they are reading them, and especially doesn't mean they are taking action. So while it's helpful, it can also be useless, unless you're doing it "right."

  12. It is true that there are a wide variety of different article directories online. The easiest to find will be the ones that are more general in topic. As for directories that are more specific to your niche, they are out there as rpgsearcherz has pointed out. Finding them can be a bit tricky though.
To find directories or ezines that cater to dog information, try searching google using terms such as: dog article directory, or submit pet articles. I have tried these two searches and they returned quite a few directories that allow article submission.

One alternate option is to use google blog search to find dog related blogs. Many of these blogs may allow guest posting. Often if this is the case, a link will be posted somewhere on the blog. You may also try contacting the blog owner and offering to guest post on their blog. If contacting the blog owner, include a copy of the article you wish to post, or a link for them to view the content before making their decision. Many blog owners welcome new and fresh content as long as it is well written and accurate.

I think I may need to write another tutorial outlining some article marketing strategies in more detail. :)

Ah, yes, guest posting is beneficial all-around as well, I completely agree. It gives the website owner the free content, and allows you to get your name/site out there a bit.

  13. Thank you very much for your nice welcome messages, I just posted my first tutorial about Virtual Hosts as test environment, It was tricky to do it short, I hope it's clear enough and understandable. Cheers.

Hey, it was good, :). Thanks for it, and more tutorials are always welcome. They also benefit the writer in that you help yourself remember things a lot better by teaching others.

  14. doesn't work for me too. maybe Xisto doesn't have money to afford the real value of the mycents and they are waiting for their ads money.

My last update was yesterday and I got $1.40 or so (a dollar was moved to my hosting account). Seems to be working fine from my end. Are you sure the mycent update emails aren't in your spam?

  15. Anyway returning to Curiosity - I hope it will find some traces of life. I would really be a game changer for everything, a truly historic event - making landing on the Moon a walk in the park.

While I do think there is life on other planets somewhere, I don't think Mars is where it'll be found at. Just seems a bit too close to us. My own belief is that we're probably the only planet up to Pluto (which is now a "star?") that has life, but I think in other solar systems there is life somewhere.

Could always be wrong as well, I just don't see Mars as being a habitable place, unless there are beings adapted to the conditions there.

  16. I wonder how can it connect with iTunes :D ... nothing Apple makes seems to work without iTunes installed. (one of the main things that makes me steer far away from anything that has an apple on the cover.

Actually, iTunes isn't a requirement for using iPhones or iPods. There are other programs that are open-source that can sync with them as well. I can't think of the names off the top of my head but I used to run *nix only OS's (before gaming), and iTunes wasn't available so I had to go searching for alternatives.

I really don't like iTunes either!

  17. Hi Tinoy,The best way, in my opinion, to set the language according to the visitor is through the language browser. You can get it, server-side, in the environment variables of php, and then send the appropriate page to your visitor.

I agree with his idea. To help you out, the variables you'll need are HTTP_USER_AGENT and HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE. Those will give you information not only on the language of the browser, but also the client itself (which allows you to account for mobile vs. desktop and whatnot as well).

  18. Hi. I have joined this forum as I found many good topics for discussion here.

Hey, if you want to let us know some more about you, you can create an introduction thread as well. It'll help us better understand what you're looking for and what your interests are.

    And welcome!
