I would avoid Symantec products at all cost, if you want to keep your computer in good shape.....

My Idea For A Form Of Government Eleutherionism
Above The Rest replied to Above The Rest's topic in Science and Technology
Not a Marxist at all. You shouldn't assume that at all. I never once said it. I agree, Communism didn't, doesn't, and can't work, this however, is only loosely based off of socialism. I wouldn't put it into the fire just yet, wait until I get a more refined, smooth idea. In fact, bounce ideas off of me that you think would be good for this system. I'm completely open to new ideas, and I'd love to hear what you have to say. -
Hopefully I can say this (without anwiii accusing me of being a moron who has no idea what he's talking about):Pricing is very important when it comes to web services. If you charge too much, they'll look elsewhere. If you charge too little, you won't make enough money. You'll probably need to do trial-and-error to figure out the best price range. Looking at other successful company's pricing can help you. Just make sure your quality of work doesn't degrade, that's the one thing that you don't want to happen. If your quality goes down far enough, customer's will leave and tell other customers not go come.

This setup intrigues me. Perhaps you could explain it a bit more? How did you set it up, exactly? I'd like to use this sort of set up for my new PC in December.

Do You Like Sports? Or Do You........ :P
Above The Rest replied to Blue-Guy's topic in General Discussion
During the non-winter months I play football on Sundays, and I'll be playing softball soon (probably 1 game per week). I used to play baseball, but I just haven't had the time for it. I'll start playing basketball on Sunday nights and Tuesdays this winter, depending on how tired I am. -
The Fastest Browser nice study has been done
Above The Rest replied to heavensounds's topic in The Internet
There are plenty of other Gecko (the rendering engine that Firefox uses) based browsers around. Perhaps you should take a look at K-Meleon and some of the others. They don't have the memory problems that Firefox has. -
Do you have any proof to back up these claims? Wireshark logs perhaps? Do you even know how the internet works? Do you realize the amount of manpower necessary to monitor the entire internet? I understand that you disagree with some of my opinions or positions, but you need to stop with the personal attacks because they doing nothing to help your credibility, and I do not appreciate the way you are handling your arguments. "I disagree with you so you must not know anything and you obviously are just posting to get web hosting, rather than actually having any knowledge about the subject!" -- Yeah, that's a good way to carry a rational statement.

I asked your opinion on the article, not the guy. If you're going to argue, insulting the person who wrote the article isn't the way to do it. If you can back up your claims (I don't believe a word that PETA says, so quotes from them are useless) then I will listen and perhaps agree with your argument (although I probably won't become a vegetarian). You made one comment on the article, and the rest of your comments were about the author.

My Idea For A Form Of Government Eleutherionism
Above The Rest replied to Above The Rest's topic in Science and Technology
No it's not a weak argument. If someone is dumb enough to drive after doing anything that may (or may not) impair their judgment, or operate heavy machinery, or wield a weapon, then I wouldn't blame that on the substance. Furthermore, no I am not a pot smoker. I've never smoked anything nor drunk any alcohol in my life. Characterizing me as such because of the opinions I hold is absurd. It's an concept that I came up with the other day. Obviously it's got kinks and it's very rough around the edges, but give me a break, it's still a concept. It has major work to be done, and that'll be accomplished whenever I have time. I'd like to write up a paper on it at some point, but I'd definitely like all of your input to go into this concept. I'd like to know what you all think will work and what won't. Furthermore, recent studies have shown that Marijuana doesn't carry anywhere near the negative effects that tobacco does. Obviously any sort of smoke will cause lung damage, but that is the users choice. Feel free to correct me (with proof of course) if I am incorrect in my statements. I was actually thinking about outlawing alcohol, but I'm not sure how free a country would be if it were outlawed, and the maturity difference between 16-18 seems to be negligible in most of the people I've ever known. And anwiii, I've been reading your posts as well, you seem to be the one talking about things you have no knowledge about. Like I said, this is just a concept. I'd love for all of you to make changes and corrections and to post them in this thread. Personal attacks on my level of knowledge are useless and annoying. Instead of saying "Oh, you're dumb, you know nothing!" try saying "Recent studies have shown that marijuana usage can cause severe damage to the liver, etc." instead of insulting my intelligence. It's much easier to take you seriously when you back up your points, and you present them like a rational human being. -
Video Games Are A Complete Waste Of Time, Face It!
Above The Rest replied to rovertos's topic in The Vent
I agree. The only TV watching I do is on my PC. Until they start showing something worthwhile on cable, I don't see why I should pay to watch it. Nobody wants to watch "A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila". How about more shows like House M.D. or The Boondocks? -
Dog The Bounty Hunter And The N Word Dog is Lying His Butt Off.
Above The Rest replied to whiskers_w's topic in The Vent
I assumed, as a rational human being, that you realized that it was a joke.... Obviously, it would be nice if nobody used the word, but that won't be happening any time soon (probably never) so I just try not to let it affect me. garbage: Music, Video Games, etc. don't cause a person to do things. If they choose to pick some phrase or idea from TV or Music then that is their own fault. You can't blame music for the rise in the usage of the "N" word. -
What? They never, ever said that to an Americans. Canadians are now allowed to pirate for personal use. I don't know why that's so hard to believe. It's been like that for years up there, they just never came out and made it official. If you don't believe this story to be true, than you don't know much about the history of piracy, nor the history of piracy in Canada.

My Idea For A Form Of Government Eleutherionism

Marijuana doesn't carry anywhere NEAR the amount of health risks that smoking does. Marijuana has not been documented to cause any deaths directly (i.e. driving under the influence doesn't count). If you're caught drunk driving you're not allowed to go within 10 miles of any alcohol store, what doesn't make sense about it? If you drink and drive, I don't want you near alcohol. Capital punishment will be used IF and ONLY IF a murder has been committed. There will be an income tax (quite large, considering you only have to pay for your clothing). No other taxes will be necessary. -

It comes down to this:Black people can say the word, and white people can't.I don't know why Caucasians get so up in arms about it. It's just a word, you say, so why do you want to say it so bad?I don't think blacks should say the word either, but that's their choice. They can't offend themselves with derogatory remarks. If you know what it will offend someone, then don't say it.EDIT: That being said, I don't care when my friends who I'm comfortable around, use the word in reference to me or any other blocks. I guess it's just a personal preference. I don't let it affect me with people that I know, but if some guy comes up to me and says "You're worthless because you're a Ni***r." then he's going to be fought. -
Video Games Are A Complete Waste Of Time, Face It!
Above The Rest replied to rovertos's topic in The Vent
Video games are entertainment. They are no more crap than Television is crap, computers are crap, websites are crap, or any hobby is crap.People use them to bring friends together, to meet new people, to make money, or to get away from the hard work of everday life. You may not be a fan of video games, or you may not play them, but that gives you no right to call them a waste of time or to bash the people who play them.I hate how people bash on the technology age like it's changing people for the worse. This happens every time there is a new technological breakthrough. What do you think Ungor was saying when they first invented the wheel? It's always the same thing. History repeats itself. -
http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is great news for Canadians and the rest of the world, but especially canadians This means more countries are likely to follow in their footsteps. Piracy for personal use should not be attacked. Only piracy that makes a profit, and bootlegging should be targeted. I do a lot of pirating and I hope the US will learn something from Canada (but I doubt it). What do you guys think of this news? Any Canadians around to comment on it?

I think you should just chill out. If you want a chance, acting weird and bothering her won't help. Just go with the flow and if she ends up liking you, it's great. It's normal for girls to say "i love my boyfriend" in their away message, so don't let that get t you. From the way you tell the story, it seems you're in junior high school or high school, both of which don't mean much for long relationships. Just wait it out and see if you get a chance.

I have absolutely no problem with vegetarianism is a theory, but the way it is practiced is an abomination. I'm not too familiar with your reasoning for being a vegetarian, but all of the ones I know use the most ridiculous and twisted reasoning I've seen (combine that with disputing facts about vegetarianism and PETA) and it's annoying. I'd like to see your take on this article: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=grill

I call it Eleutherionism, which is based off of the Ancient Greek word for freedom. It's fairly similar to socialism, but also vastly different. Here is the basic idea for it: Eleutherionism is an interesting concept. It's based off of socialism, but it gives the citizen much more freedom. In socialism, everyone is paid the same thing for working different jobs. I want to expand on that concept. Different jobs will have different wages, increasing based on popularity, difficulty, and talent required. In order to get a certain job, you must study (after you graduate high school) for as long as you want and then you will take an aptitude test (created by people who currently/previously worked the job you want to have). You will need to get a certain score on that test in order to successfully get the job. If you don't pass, you'll either have to study again and re-take the test (you can re-take the test for a single job five times per year) or study in a different field. The government will provide housing and food for all of it's citizens. You will use the money you have to buy clothing and non-essentials (video games, computers, etc.). This allows all citizens to live a well-to-do lifestyle and enjoy themselves. The government will work using the checks & balances system. A congress of 500 elected officials (directly elected by the citizens, who must be 18 to vote) will share equal power with the elected Chancellor (I like that term best for leader ). They will share equal power in regards to military decisions, and any other government decisions. Abortions are legal. Drugs are outlawed, and sea ports and borders are HEAVILY monitored. Smoking is illegal. Marijuana, however, is legal. Alcohol is legal to sell to to anybody over 18. You can drink it at age 16, however. Driving under the influence causes license revocation for a year, and you are not allowed to be within ten miles of any establishment selling alcohol or Marijuana during that year. This form of government allows for the government to ally itself with any other country. Congress and the chancellor will vote (the chancellor counts as ten votes) to decide if a country is able to be allied with. The government will not intervene in the matters of other countries, and will not enforce it's will (unless it feels threatened and they hold a vote for it) upon other nations. You can leave the country at any time, but you will be sent to prison if you violate your Visa in another country while still a citizen. If you are in another country, you will obey the laws of that country, and not the Eleutherionist country you belong to. ------------------------------------------------- If you guys want me to elaborate on anything or explain other parts, feel free to ask.

I'm going on the AT&T Wireless Family Plan with my sister in a few days (maybe less?) and I need to purchase a new phone. I'm looking for $30 dollars or less. Refurbished is fine. Not interested in doing the EBay thing. If you can recommend to me a good phone (camera is the only requirement I ask for) then I'll be quite grateful. I was looking at the BlackBerry Pearl ($30 dollars refurbished) but if there is something better, I would like to get that instead.

I agree.Stupid kids (excuse my terminology) generally make the class slower and less fulfilling. They mess around and don't do the work and the intelligent kids suffer.Obviously, stupid kids should be rewarded for the work they do. If it's sub par then they should be put in lower classes, likewise with the intelligent kids.

Yeah, getting a girlfriend will TOTALLY make life so much easier.Wait, no it won't.If you want to be happy, a girlfriend in high school (generally) is the last thing you want. That isn't to say that having a girlfriend can't be fun.

Hotmail isn't necessarily bad, and I'd say it's the best service available besides GMail. The problem with Hotmail is that sometimes emails are erroneously sent to the spam box, or not received at all.I'm sure you've all seen sites requiring emails that warn Hotmail users to use another service.

That's not necessarily good advice. For one, it could be caused by a multitude of problems (anything from Trojans and Spyware to cookie errors and worms). Clearing out his hosts file could cause whoever has made any modifications to it (be it him, or someone else in charge of, or who has fixed the computer) to be quite upset. Furthermore, there are many innocent lines of text that can be inside the hosts file, he shouldn't just going on "if there's anything else, erase it" he should see what's in there, and learn what it means. sinthetix: try going to HiJackThis.de and downloading the program. Paste the logfile into the box on the site and it'll tell you about anything that shouldn't be there. The program has been very useful to me in the past, and I use it often.
