  1. Dear All,I love to play RTS games like Praetorian, Rise of Nations, CnC, and so on. But i was bad at forming strategy, so in most RTS i always failed, even against easy BOT. Could you please tell me what the basic strategy in playing RTS? Thanks in advance
  2. I'm still selling Intel Pentium I Computer with $5 price, and there are still some customers who want it.If you're considering XP OS than you need at least pentium 4 computer, which means you need about $100 at least to get the new CPU with low class specification.
  3. step 1.If you're computer made error beeping sound, then it is because your RAM or VGA.step 2.Try to smell your computer parts one by one, is there any burnt smell?change the parts which have burnt smell immediately.step 3.check your cable one by one, is there any bad cable(the rubber is torn off)n.b. some motherboards turn off automatically when get weird electricity voltage or watt, high temperature, etc...and try to close the computer lid(some motherboards uses "detect Casing Interuption") <- maybe it is silly but still possiblestep 4.If you're computer didn't make any sound and still looking good(didn't have burnt smell in any parts), try to reinstall the BIOS(using disk or jumper), than reinstall your computer OS.step 5.try to unplug unnecessary parts(LAN,modem,), only use one slot of RAM,VGA, one HDD -> just use the minimum requirement for your computer to run.if your computer still cannot run, just consider to buy a new one ^^
  4. Based on your information, you're using onboard VGA Graphics card...which means:Your RAM is shared into processor and VGA, with 256mb(shared) RAM, you cannot get maximum performance, just look in task manager for 'physical memory'. if you see that the use of memory is bigger than your capacity, than you need to upgrade the RAM.You didn't tell what processor you're using(it can decide how many mb your RAM needs, your graphic card, etc)I think INTEL Graphics Accelerator doesn't very bad for your 'OnBoard Graphics Card'( it is standard software for onboard VGA), the needs for upgrading Graphic Card is low, because based on my experience, I can still play 3D game (Farcry) with only 64mb VGA Graphic Card and 1GB of RAM and AMD X2 Processor.n.b. I think we need to upgrade VGA graphic Card if there is a blank pixel or polygon in your screen(like error picture or something) and if your VGA cannot support you're game/software at all. -> it doesn't affect the speed, only the quality of pictureCMIIMW
  5. Theory 1.have you ever used program to protect your computer state?(DeepFreeze, Norton Ghost or such)Maybe you got it on somehow and it made your computer back to the first time you install the program and lose your data.Theory 2.Your HDD got short electricity and made its particle to change (than you're lucky because you still can use it).Theory 3.Because of virus, I've once my .doc and .xls document changed into .txt file with blank text in it(I've given up and wanted to reinstalled the OS). luckily I've got my friend who came up with Norton Antivirus and recover my data back(.txt back into .doc and .xls)Theory 4.Human Error - You said your system folder is empty, then it is possible you 'unpurposely'/'unconciusly' delete the system folder.(maybe wrong icon which you wanted to delete)but all of them are just theory ^^
  6. I think all of your computer parts have burnt out. I've once an accident when electricity ran out when I'm tried to turn on my computer, the result is bad smell(like a rubber is being burnt). when I get to my usual computer store, they said my computer had got short-electricity and the PSU, Motherboard,RAM,CD-ROM,and HDD were all burnt out, so I went home with only my processor(luckily it didn't get burnt) ^^p.s. sorry for my bad English
  7. Yes, maybe you can change the setting from BIOS(change "boot from" menu). another way is to change your OS to lower one(need less time to start) or just get VISTA(which said to be the fastest boot OS)
  8. @SamiFXI don't think reinstalling OS is necessary, we can use some registry editor to remove unnecessary registry.CMIIMW@TSYou're using AMD athlon +3000, based on my experience, I can overclock it until 3,2Ghz( I suggest you to overclock it into 2.2Ghz), If you're using DUal VGA, then it is highly recomended that u use DUal core processor(Intel Pentium D or AMD X2).The AMD proc has smaller L2 cache than Intel proc, so it can make your computer faster if you're using 1mb or bigger.
  9. What about me? I'm still using AMD Sempron +2800 running on 1.8Ghz(I prefer long time of life than max performance). and 1GB RAM.I think if you're only using 40GB HDD then your computer is enough, but if you're upgrading it into 160-300gb HDD, than you need higher processor, It can make the OS hang if your HDD is too big and your computer become unstable.for my advice, you can use 160-300 if you're using high end motherboard(need high performance chipset) which support Pentium D or AMD X2 FX.
  10. I'm using 1024 X 768 resolution...about 5 years ago I used 800 x 600, now my desktop screen is full of shortcuts and doesn't fit 800x600 reso any more.I think I'm going to use bigger resolution soon
  11. Is there any member who lives in Australia?I want to study in Australia too, but I can't find any suitable colleges, If you know some good colleges in Sydney please inform me via PM. I'm interested in web design or Information Techonology
  12. Have you checked the specification? what slot do you use?PCIEx(long slot with two or more of a kind)?AGP(I think it usually one slot for one motherboard->it doesn't support dual VGA)?if you are using AGP, There is some kind of it - AGP8x, AGP16x, so if you're motherboard only supports AGP8x, you cannot connect VGA with AGP16x slot(usually the speed of AGP slot written on the motherboard near the slot)if you are using PCIEx, Have you turn off your VGA onBoard(if there is any)?, has you install the VGA driver?the most important think is "did you hear Your motherboard BEEPING(short *bip*)than it means you didn't connect it properly to your motherboard, try to reject and insert it again.
  13. I prefer AMD to Intel....First, Intel is more expensive than AMDsecond, Intel isn't very good for overclockingbut from what I've read from Computer Magazine, using benchmark software, Intel processor performance is better than AMD...(but I think it is because the price->2 intel processor can buy 3 AMD processor)But actually if you like to change your processor often, you better use INTEL because from pentium 4 until core2xtreme using the same socket(LGA775), AMD uses many different socket(I can't remember it)
  14. Hey, I'm amazed and exciting to see this forum, because I think i can make a lot of money online (I'm a newbie here). So could you help me to find the free frelancer sites for me to work at ? I'm quite skilled at graphic design. Thanks before
  15. I suggest you could start with Pascal Languange first. It is a difficult-to-learn languange, but as you finished learning with it, another programming languange will be easier to learn (I do not say that it will be easy to learn. It could be difficult, though)Maybe you could try the MinGW Developer Studio, it's very easy to use
