1. no offence but how are u moderator when u have just posted three times :o  :D  :D  Lol, thats freaky and wrong, u dont have the capability to be moderator as ur dont have the time to even post at this forum, so why tell us to post longer when u urself dont post at all!!!

I somewhat got a free seat yes, because I am a mod at Xisto. The reason I don't post here, is simple. I am here to check things, to read posts, after a few hours a day reading posts here and on Xisto, I tend to feel not so talkative LOL. I spend more time actually reading posts, checking if they are copied, editting posts on foul language etc, then I can give time to write posts.

See, the thing is, doom145, mods may not post a lot, but that does not mean we don't contribute. I spend several hours daily just reading posts... That's why we are mods, it's not just posting, it's answering questions, checking if posts don't violate rules, if they're copied, foul language,... I also have a life offline, I watch my 4 yr old sister, I teach her to write and read, I clean house, I cook dinner, ... And I try to make me a carreer.

And for the record, feel free to search my posts, they are usually longer than just one paragraph :D

  2. Ok what the heck, no help from anyone for 3 days now and i dont get pm or email why is my account freakin suspended i have 8 credits! wtf lol not cool

    68378

When accounts get suspended Xisto does not send out pms or emails to notify the user of the reason for suspension. Your site is still suspended, however I can only see your hosting credits, which indeed are 8. I can't check your site to see if you've violated any rules or the TOS. The only thing I can see is a warning for promoting illegal content (if you look at a post you've made, it shows your name, at the end of the lil list, you'll see warning level)

That is all I can tell you. Also I know there were some issues with the credits script which wasn't reactivating accounts, but I don't know if this is the case here.

The best thing you can do is pm NilsC, he is admin here and can look up more stuff than I can as moderator.

  3. Perhaps you can post some tutorials on how you've made some of those. I think they are pretty neat looking. Especially the one with the fire, the one with Blade in it and the blueish one with pinkish center. I have to admit I too am very curious on how you did the one with the tank, it's not my personal favorite but it sure looks mighty fine. Although I would make the lil 'movie' go a tad bit slower.

  4. Hi! I am crystal ! I come from china,I usually go to the chinese forum!although I am just graduate from university, But my English  still  is poor.I can read English, and I see 《friends 》,which with English caption. That mean I can catch you when you say english! But I don't konw how can I get enough credits to win a free webhost! Can you help me? Thanks very much!

Don't worry about your English when posting, from what I've read you'll do just fine. The more English you use, the better you'll get at it. For the record, I am Belgian. My native tongue is Dutch (or Flemish if you want to be pedantic LOL), my second language (officially) should be French, however in my case it's English :)

Just make sure you don't fall into using the "u shud no tis", the chat slang. It's quite hard to decipher, well not that hard, but it can be a strain for some. I personally or ignore those who post with that type of "language" or comment and tell them to use proper English B)

In case you're at loss and can't come up with a certain words, just describe it. I am sure they'll get what you mean :)

  5. I currently have tried WS_FTP pro, 3D FTP, SmartFTP, AceFTP, FileZilla and few I've forgotten all about (judging by the list, I think you can understand that :)) I have to say I am not hosted on Xisto, but on Xisto.com B) I so far have not had any issues with FTP, I can tell you that the only difference I've noticed with all these clients was not connection issues, but lack of certain features. For example, chmod and chown may not be accessible by all FTP clients. Personally I prefer FileZilla and 3d ftp. However, 3d FTP is slow and sluggish. WS_FTP also is a system resource hog. Filezilla didnt have those issues. (ah the blessings of open source)As far as the time out issue, personally I'd disable the "keep connection alive" and try again. Also, if you are on dial up, that will seriously affect the quality of your ftp connection. Even on broadband you can have issues, mainly due to a very active line ;) I have that issue between 4 and 6PM :)

  6. CSS can be a huge help for the bigger projects to have a uniform look. Also it keep "looks" and content more seperated. As far as the need for a "test" page with all categories on it to test the css... I just keep my CSS file open (I always use external css files :)) and add to it as I go along. To keep a style sheet from getting cluttered I prefer to keep the main tags on top and then classes. I also am a big fan of comments in my pages (be it HTML, be it CSS) this will make it easier when you do decide to work on a site in team.

The biggest disadvantage in CSS (to me personally) is that IE doesn't support all CSS (even though M$ insists that IE does support CSS2). For example a hover effect in CSS with nested lists, which creates awesome looking menus, will NOT display as such in IE. The best example of this can be found on Eric Meyer's Web

The nested lists menu can be found here, I suggest looking at it with IE and Netscape/Mozilla/FireFox (Konqueror should support this too, I believe Opera does as well, but I am not sure)

  7. You get Hosting Credits by posting on the Xisto forums, you can see how many hosting credits you have by visiting to frontpage of the forums. Once you reach 10 hosting credits, you can request for a web hosting account.

    hope this helps,

    -whyme

I would like to add to whyme's reply. Also do not forget to post of some content and not just "LOL" or "thank you". And copying things of the net is a big no-no here as well.

In your case huls, please make slightly longer posts. That in itself will help you with your hosting credits. The length and content of your posts is more important than the amount you post. (and one other hint... the "report to moderator" feature sends a pm to all admins and moderators and is solely used to get our attention to problems - not to reply. While I can understand a mistake, just try to not do that again LOL :))

  8. I checked Dreamweaver in the poll. But it really depends on what site I am working on :)

I have used or use the following programs:

    Dreamweaver

This is my favourite program for the bigger projects, I don't know why though. I guess that it's because I know it pretty well. I started using Dreamweaver MX ages 3 yrs ago. And I still do. Of course for one page, I won't bother opening it. Since it's pretty heavy and I am on an older pc.

    Adobe GoLive TryOut

It was recommended to me by a friend. However, I found the lay-out and GUI not so nice. But then again, I was a huge fan of Dreamweaver already. I have to admit, GoLive is good for tables :)

    HTML-Kit

really useful for semi-projects :P Also the preview is excellent. I have encountered a few problems with the preview though, but that's sorted :D

NotePad ++ which is nothing more than notepad with syntax highlighting for several languages. This is open on my puter all the time, it fully replaces the "regular" notepad on my machine :D

    1rst Page 2000

I got this on Nils' advice. So I am giving that a try as well. However I haven't had the change to look around in it.

In the past I have ONCE tried Frontpage, and after testing the page, which was slower than a snail, and staring at the code... I decided to never touch Frontpage again.

  9. Did you know from the beggining iPod is an MP3 player? Or are you finding this out right now from this post or did someone tell you before??

    62215

Ok, I am going to post a reply to this... Yes, I knew what an iPod is before I saw this post. iPods are one of the most sold MP3 players, they can also act as storage device :)

Now seriously as moderator, please make longer posts than this. Longer posts (with good contents) will greatly improve your hosting credits.
