Controversial Topic: Weapon Ownage How do you feel?
farren replied to Albus Dumbledore's topic in General Discussion
Also something i forgot to mention. What if someone i knew starting annoying the hell out of me so i decide to shoot and kill him? With this law in place couldn't i just "claim" to have used it in self defence when in fact it was down to cold blood? -
Before i requested hosting, i was going to earn up to 50 credits and apply for Hosting Package #2 then i would have 20 credits to start off. But then i realised that it gets reset to 2-4 credits so applied straight away. I guess it stops users from applying for a hosting package then simply leaving it. If they had say 200 credits then the inactive account would 'linger' for most of the year.

Controversial Topic: Weapon Ownage How do you feel?
farren replied to Albus Dumbledore's topic in General Discussion
I'm unsure on this. Some good points mentioned but it's difficult to tell if this would be for the better. I think it's good for people to know that they can fell safe if they have a weapon for defence. However, i'm not sure I would feel safe knowing that anyone i pass on the street could have a weapon with them at that time. Personaly, i'm against the idea for this reason: I feel people would take advantage of this law and abuse it in a way to harm others. By saying that anyone could possess a weapon such as a gun, you may have the problem of young kids being influenced with these weapons and the act of violence justified as a primary solution rather than a last resort. There are other ways around it (i.e. better law enforcement or better detecting technology). Also these "idiots" might become more widespread rather than in certain areas. -
GTA 2 - first GTA game i ever played. After a week i got bored of it.GTA 3 - I think the reason for this game being so popular is due to the extream difference in development from the previous generation of games. The best thing for me on this game were the environments unlike the two GTA games in advance which were slightly dull.GTA Vice City - First GTA game that i actually finished. For me the factors that stand out to me are the fantastic 80's feel to it and the story was interesting. Missions were very difficult at some points. Great characters. Bright environment if not a slightly small roam area.GTA San Andreas - First GTA game i completed 100% (and yes i did use cheats for the hidden items although that was a challange in itself). For me, the best part of the GTA games is the freedom to roam around and interact with whatever you want which is why this is my personal favourite. Wide map to explore, better gang related features, excellent flying ability (after you get the licence), better cars and you are able to swim (no more countless deaths from falling into mildly deep puddles). Story however is slightly boring after the first 3rd of the game, 90's music was crap and they picked the worst of the lot, the "yo homie" "doin it for da hood" "for sho" speech started to irritate the hell out of me. And worst of all you finally finish what was proberbly the toughest mission ever, go to save your success and on the way you die because enemy gang members blasts at you and/or your car or you get busted because that damn cop jumped under your wheels again.

I thought that the DHAKA can only be beaten by the Water Sword? And that you can only fight him if you acquire the water sword (which is the most powerful)? It's been a while since i played it so i'm unsure, i could be wrong. I'd proberbly go for the large, ugly, grunting/growling, acid spitting, tentacle whipping bosses that hardly flinch if you started pounding them with lead. In this case proberbly the DHAKA in Prince of Persia or Nemesis from Resident Evil: Nemesis. Both of these are similar: Both chase you around constantly Both have a habit of not dying... ever Always turn up at the worst times Both are ugly When you see them RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! The only way to beat the DHAKA was by using only one weapon: a sword that did very little damage and was extra frustrating by the fact that he was able to regenerate himself if he felt like it. Nemesis on the other hand could survive any weapon or element. It actually took a very large missile to kill him (and after all that ).

A large result of religion: War and murder!A huge percentage of wars are a result of religion. Certain teachings, terrorism, stories, excuses even. So doesn't that mean that everyone will go to hell? At this rate, our world is turning into hell in itself. For example, religion A has a God and religion B has a different one. Both have different teachings etc. Religion A says that people who follow the path of Religion B will go to hell and vice versa.

King is a personal favourite of mine although i'm not sure on Koontz. I read in moderation (usually on holiday or a long trip) but it's usually a Stephan King novel. Recently finished the last Dark Tower book. I have also read misery (my favourite), Pet Semetry, IT, The Shining, Hearts in Atlantis and Cell. I quite like the fantasy/horror genre myself (if not a bit 'overkill' in his most recent) which is what attracts me.

What's Your Favorite Game System - Console select one from each poll
farren replied to ICE-XG's topic in Computer Gaming
Problem is game consoles are costing a fortune if not for a simple "upgrade" or sometimes overated, therefore people will pay for it. The playstation 3 for example can cost up to 650 (euros) RRP, whereas you could purchase a pretty good PC (with all the standard hardware) at this price or maybe little more. However you can upgrade your computer as you wish, access a huge range of well... everything and you can play games with graphics better than some seen on any other console. Also (what i hate most) when a new updated console is released, lets say xbox 360 for example, they will stop making any half decent charted games for the original xbox. So in other words either buy the 360 or don't play any of the top games. -
I'm quite new to the whole webdesign development thing so i decided to look for a free and reliable webhost. Was looking around for quite a while but i recognised Xisto from an online mate of mine (sportytalk).

Surely no-one can be stupid enough not to keep a million in a secure place? Anyway, if i happened to come across 1 million simply lying around to be found, first thing's that come to mind would be "Is this a ploy or trick of some kind" or "why hasn't anyone found this before me? Does this mean the owner of the million cannot be far away?" Ideally, what i would want to do is take my finding and keep it for myself whilst muttering constantly to myself why i was so lucky. Then spend the rest of my life blinded by the amount of riches i came across one day. However, what i would do is try and find an effective way of finding the true owner of the money (yes some of you may be thinking why the hell i would do this). No matter how stupid the primary owner of the money was, think how you would feel if you lost 1 million? If i had this amount of money to spend as i wished, i would proberbly get a home abroad in the country or travel the world. One thing i wouldn't do is draw attention to myself. A fair percentage of people would prefer the attention/media from other people. For me, i'd like to keep it mostly to myself. I couldn't do with the hassle, and you may suddenly find yourself with an unusually large amount of 'friends'.

I usually read up to 9-10 books a year but i like to take my time on each one unless it's really good! Mainly on my holidays or spare time. I prefer the more complicated fiction. Fantasy/horror are a favourite. Usually Stephen King or James Herbert are for my type of read. Favourite book has to be "Misery" by Stephen King.

Cigarette Smoking Ads on TV make you want to quit but not easily done
farren replied to Full.Clip's topic in Health & Fitness
Nowadays, younger and younger generations of people are smoking, some as young as 7 or 8. Either it's caused by peer pressure from their mates or by getting addicted to passive smoke by their parents for example. I dissagree with smoking but i don't nag smokers about it. Afterall it's their own choice, and you would have to be stupid not to realise the long term consequences. Just don't start puffing smoke in my face, thats all.... -
Norton Antivirus is a good choice. Personal firewall is also effective however i have had a few security issues with this.Best free antivirus program IMO is proberbly AVG. Free and easy to install.Adaware is also free and easy but gets outdated very quickly. Works well with Spybot to target spyware.

Not sure why you would want to change your IP address. I have a dynamic IP (on dial-up) which changes everytime i connect to the internet (proxy too) however ever so slightly. If you have a static IP then it is possible to contact your Internet Service Provider if you want to change. However, some people change IP's as a way to abuse certain rules or as a means to bypass a situation by hiding your previous ID so you need a good reason.

Have any of you cured a common addiction that you or anyone you know have experienced? Feel free to shout out any helpful tips or what you think would be the most effective way of solving an addiction. Or simply add which method you feel would be the most effective. Whether you used an advertised product to help cut down, made your own program or cutting down moderately, the use of exercise or a certain diet, inspiration from other people or from advertisements displayed on TV/Radio. Or simply packing it in when you feel like it.

Desktop for me although a laptop would be better for those who need it for business purposes or travel purposes. As mentioned, you can upgrade your desktop computer which is better in the long run. I see laptops as more of a secondary option for the reason mentioned above. I haven't had the need for one as of yet.

For me it has to be cats and i must say it's nice to see a lot of positive feedback on the feline side of things. Most people i know are dog lovers and most of them can't stand cats at all. I ask them why they dislike cats so much and the fair majority explain it's due to the cats "dirty" and "nasty" nature. If a cat is dirty, it cleans itself and if it needs a trip to the toilet, it's natural instinct to use a litter tray if it is available. Whereas if a dog got dirty it would most likey jump onto the furniture, shake it's fur and spray dirty water everywhere and would pretty much stink for the next week or two. And how many stories have you heard of cats attacking people? Also a cat would kill a rat, mouse or small bird. Whilst a dog can kill large rodents, poultry, sheep and even young kids. I'm actually a slightly independant individual myself which might be linked to my liking of the cat rather than the dog. I like it when cats ar fussy and playful in the mornings and how they curl up in your lap if they are tired. And how can you forget that purr?

Can't remember whether it was 2 or 5 days maximum in a pound and they are put to sleep (well is over here anyway) if an owner isn't found. On another note, im not too sure i like the way certain unoffcial animal welfare groups handle these things IMO. I agree on their terms but resulting to violence in some cases? For example digging up an old womans body because she experimented on certain animals before she died. I'd be angry too but surely they had to think of the effect it would have on living relatives. There are other ways to solve things.

Cigarette Smoking Ads on TV make you want to quit but not easily done
farren replied to Full.Clip's topic in Health & Fitness
Considering i have never smoked it's hard for me to put myself in the position of someone who has, however what i do know is that it's never as simple as smoking your last whenever you want. A relative of mine died from lung cancer due to smoking which was something very common indeed. I don't see the point in smoking, however i accept people who do as it's their choice (unless was caused by peer pressure from other people which is the factor in many cases). It's like alcoholism or drug taking. Going cold turkey is one of the most difficult things your body can handle both mentally and physicaly. -
Sobriety Of Forum Members (poll) Are you completely HIGH???
farren replied to Watermonkey's topic in General Discussion
Nothing wrong with sticking to the healthy side of things. There are many other ways of having fun. Never smoked in my life, drugs are a no no and i do drink a little but never to an 'out of mind drunk person' standard. And look on the finance side of things: your not wasting money on cigs, booze or drugs which all pretty much have a standard of emptying your wallet quite fast. -
It's sick in every way. I actually worked as a managing assistant at a pet store for a couple of years and we had loads of different animals. I'm sad to say, quite often we had idiots who tried to steal the animals themselves. A couple were sent back by people who's sons/daughters had stolen an animal and used it as a tool for pranks/tricks on other people. In one case, one man actually bought a cornsnake and towards the end of the day, we had multiple complaints from people who say they had a "mentally unstable" man shove this snake in the faces of others in a public street! We took great care in the animals we possessed and most of the time we manage to avoid making such mistakes as that. I mean one can steal an item or even cash, but a living, breathing animal? You would also get those who try to take animals who need very special requirements that the person is not aware of. For example, if someone would steal a turtle, it would surely die within a few days due to lack of water/supplements/proper feeds/heat and a slow death at that. I also heard a story once that a dog violently attacked a little girl because she was jumping on it or something like that. A few days later, her older brother and his mates muzzled it, cut off it's tail, kicked it multiple times then tied a rock to it's leg with string and threw it in a river. In most cases animal cruelty is a result of frustration from owners, experimentation or well... just plain senseless cruelty and the fact that you can very easily get away with it. Very recently (January i think), i was driving along a backroad returning home from work and came upon a driver on the opposite side of the road who had hit a deer. The deer was actually still alive but was unable to walk at all and was critcally injured. Another person stopped and we helped to move the deer behind a hedge (in the field opposite the road). The driver explained that he will call a vet or someone to come and help it, or more likely put it out of it's misery. So as he was calling someone out, i returned to my car and drove home. This was a saturday..... On the monday night when finishing work it was still there and still alive! Very soon after that i called someone out and they took care of it. What stumps me is whether that driver even bothered with the effort of calling someone out or the service they were trying to contact were unable to come out until the following monday when i reminded them? Seems obvious to me!

Thanks. Yep, it's the best free webhost service i have seen around. I actually moderate on another site in my spare time (http://www.funkysnooker.com/) but i'm looking to develop something of my own and i think this is a good place to start. My main hobbies are surfing the net, reading, playing a bit of footy* with my mates now and again and playing snooker and pool. I'm actually living in Ireland at the moment but i recently got offerd a job in the UK so im returning next wednesday! (An 11 hour daily shift too , but the pay is good). I'm back and forth between here and the UK all the time anyway and it can get pretty tiring. Oh, and like to talk rubbish alot *when the weather is actually ever nice...

What's Your Favorite Game System - Console select one from each poll
farren replied to ICE-XG's topic in Computer Gaming
I see where you coming from.Game wise im all for the Sony ps2 console, but realistically the PC is in another league. The PC itself can be used to optimise experience on consoles with online play etc. As you say, other consoles will sooner or later become out of date. You can only develop a console's ability by creating a whole new product (ps1, ps2, ps3 etc) whilst you can use your own knowledge to improve your experience on a computer.I never buy games and play them on a PC however. Usually online play for me!
