Hello All. The game being modded is Freelancer, is was put out I think in late 2003 and Microsoft Ensemble Studios + Firefly were the developers. If you haven't heard of it, don't be lazy, everyone can google it.If you have experience in modifying games and are looking for a new project consider modding this game with me. I'm new to modding Freelancer and I'm looking for some help in my project. What I am looking for are people who can edit models and create new ones, using 3ds max or milkshape 3d. I'm also looking for people who can work with game code and are good at it. It's not an entirely hard game to modify but for one person it is quite a tall order to fill. The mod project will be surrounded by a forum and a public server for all freelancers to come and join. Please try to keep in mind that I am a veteran player of this game and I've lived with the sore spots of crappy mods and know exactly what I want to make the game better and more realistic. If you want to tear around someones mod and waste our time do it to someone else. I'm just looking for a few dedicated people who are interested in the betterment of the Freelancer Online Community by helping to provide a stable, limit breaking, and fun modification of the game.If you would like more information reply here or PM me. Please don't send me emails if you have my address. I prefer emails from those I know

For about one or two weeks my browsers(both internet explorer and firefox) were hijacked to some degree by google. No matter what web address I would put in to either of them be it something like http://yahoo.com/ or http://www.msn.com/de-de?rd=1&ucc=DE&dcc=DE&opt=0 or anything at all I kept getting sent to an error page for Google China and the only other page I could access was the Google China home page. Anyone else have this problem or heard of it? I'm really interested in knowing wtf google screwed up on the internet, or was this just a forceful advertising scheme by the Search Giant.

Everytime I go to review my cell phone bill I find the most stupid charges on it.When I first got the phone the whole time the lady was trying to explain everything as fast as she could about my plan and what features were turned on and all that jazz. I had to literally act like I was stupid about technology a little bit just to get her to reiterate about some of the things she went especially fast on which really pissed me off more. When I got my first bill I never bothered to look at it too hard because I figured it was the first month's bill ya know, so I was waiting for the second bill to come so I could compare what was on them and figure out where to go from there. I had so many things on them that I didn't even understand or need in the first place. So I had them turn off most of the crap that they had on my account.I was wondering, has anyone else had this happen to them, and if so what do you think I could do about getting it fixed cause all I wanted was to be able to make my phone calls, recieve them, and be able to text.

My first system that I owned myself was a Atari. Not sure which series but it was definately old school. Even had it's own little plastic tray stand for the system itself, two controllers, and pretty much every game every made.

Freelancer! An Old Game - A New Mod Project - Can You Help?
sinthetix replied to sinthetix's topic in Computer Gaming
Cangor, Don't be discouraged by the coding of the game. I was when I first started to play around with it. A serious helping resource for Freelancer Modders is http://www.lancersreactor.com/ Lancers Reactor is a site you can connect with other modders in the Freelancer Community and see other modders releases aswell as get your questions answered by experts. There are also invaluable tutorials and other information about modding the game. It's a must! It's very simple to mod most things in the game. I just don't have enough time to undertake the project fully without the aid of other modders and hopefully some support volunteers to police the in-game world. Rome wasn't built in a day and certainly not by one individual alone. I have a good vision of what I want and how I want a lot of things in the mod to stack up. If I had others to help me who could take on a couple of small side projects it would help me exponentially. -

I bought a Samsung A900 last August or late July and it's pretty awesome. It has a modem option too. Just plug it into your computer using the USB cable supplied with the phone out of the box and I think it may need a driver however, and it works as a 2ghertz dual band wireless modem. Never tried it but my phone has this ability, I don't think the net would be very fast through it anyway because you plug it in through USB which in itself isn't as fast as something like a network interface card.

Yeah. I'm lovin this place so far. And really it's nice to be a part of a forum again, I've since closed or abandoned the ones I've ran. Some revolved around games and some we're just for general conversations but I've sorta gotten a lot more busy with getting my commercial real estate license and getting my e-business going again. I've been slacking lol.

bhavesh.. Seriously, where do you and other people who believe that get your notions from? It's simple fact that our technology increases dramatically every century. Our mechanical devices are stronger then ever and smarter then ever. Our trains can pretty much run themselves(with a few tweaks here and there), our cars know more about where we are going then we do, and our machines could already destroy us - I.E. Our smart bombs and missles ect.It will only take a matter of time before corporations or military research centers have developed stronger technologies to put into a different form. Maybe a jet that thinks for itself like in the movie Stealth, or possibly even unmanned space craft. The possibilities can be drawn all day long but the simple fact is, there are already robots among us we are trying to develop that not only resemble us, they do things like we do. A few years ago a machine couldn't walk up stairs upright with two feet. Now they can. Now hop and skip maybe 50-250 years from now. Where do you really think our technology is going to be by then? They may be clumsy, even dumb by our standards. But that is only for now. Once we are able to write smarter and more in depth programming that isn't so limited by our current hardware(assuming that we will indeed continue to grow as a society with technology like we have since the beginning of man) that we produce today we will be able to write more advanced programs that have an extreme sense of awareness about them. Understanding what is around them down to the last blade of grass. I know there are lots of people who do manual labor jobs, I am no exclusion. I myself have done plenty of down and dirty jobs myself. I've worked in a concrete burial vault factory/crematorium, several counter top shops, landscaping, I've even worked on construction sites cleaning up houses before they start filling in the interiors and finished look of the places. That being said I'm not trying to undermine anyone's hard work they do on the job every day every year, but, wouldn't it be nice if no one had to work jobs like that? Imagine machines being packed into a transport of some sort, hopping out on the job site(or even being left at the job site in a trailer or something) unpacking themselves and building an interstate for us. Just whatever. It's only a matter of time before machines do everything dangerous for us, or most everything that would be considered dangerous for a human. Like working on skeletal structures of sky scrapers. In japan they have been working on ways to new technologies that enables machines to build buildings pretty much by themselves. I'm sure everyone has seen the famous clips of a robot walking correctly and taking it's first steps up a flight of stairs(however slow it may be by our current technological limits) Do you seriously think that we couldn't build something ''Irobot'' ish in the future? Agile machines that could not only climb stairs but leap up them and have every common sense about how to land itself properly?Without proper control our technology could undermine ourselves. I know some things about the future seem clouded by movies and good writers but a lot of good writing comes from common sense. Look at submarines for example. No one ever dreamed that we could have had machines that we could live in underwater for some amount of time, let alone have submersables that can take out a small to medium sized country in a matter of hours. I am speaking about 20,000 leagues under the sea. So let's step it up a notch and consider what is going on in popular culture right now, even Hollywood. These people aren't stupid, they are interested in making uber amounts of cash by selling pretty movies, but lets look at the facts. Our technology will increase, it's only a matter of time. And as we can already see, there is a huge amount of machine development going on in our world presently. For daily use, military, work use all sorts of applications. It's only a matter of time before we make them intelligent so we don't have to babysit them. I'm quite sure it will take a while because for now society is driven by wealth, and let's face it, there is always somebody willing to work for a sum of money. I'm pretty sure someone could make nice cash managing a small collective of machines that think independantly. There is no difference in society today. Go to a construction site and look at the people operating cranes, front end loaders, dump trucks, ect. They get paid a decent sum of money for operating the machinery. I don't want to vier this discussion into a different topic but as long as people hold fast to money then our society will be limited. I don't suggest everyone quit their jobs and boycot money though, I just know that someday we may be enlightened enough to not have a need for wealth, and at that time our society will be able to strive ahead faster through technology.I think it's not a matter of if, but when. Machines will be intelligent someday - Maybe not all of them, but I'm quite sure there will be a good percentage of them. If you try to examine Star Trek, it does seem plauseable that they could create artificial intelligence. I think that Data would have been treated a little more differently like studied some and then duplicated but they had the technology. And in Star Wars they have all sorts of artificially controlled machines, but they all pretty much had kill-switches and were controlled by instructions. Take the driod army for example. They were fairly simple machines. They understood the objective of the mission, they understood the means and resources they had at their disposal to use, and they went and used them. This is not really hard to accomplish it's just that it's not that important to our society yet. If we can make 10,000 or so different types of candy, just because people crave it; I'm pretty sure we could put our technology to the limit and create halfway intelligent machines that can think independantly enough to get an objective completely. We can already tell a machine to walk up stairs and it does it(so I mentioned earlier) so how much longer before we can just tell it to go to the kitchen and pour me a drink? It's all instructions. We are already sitting on the cusp of major leaps in cybernetics everyday as people work more and more on these machines. Again it's just a matter of time.

Is the Battlefield 2142 flavor any good? I did try BF 1942 and I was not extremely impressed but it was worth it to play for me. It was entertaining. Pair the same sort of gameplay with more modern and better weapons, it could get down right addictive. So does anyone think it's a good game or bad?
-
Lmao! Well Damn. That could have an effect on it too. By the way, I've read through alot of the articles posted up by the administration of this nice place. And I must say I'm very impressed. Especially with the Unlimited bandwidth article. The one where one of the Admins basically spells it out how this site works and everything for those who think they need unlimited bw. I like it here.

Personally I would love to see more advanced machines. I'm talking really advanced stuff here.More to the point of the discussion I think the key in the situation of robots possibly being our end is -control-If we are to at some point create artificial intelligence of any kind, and most likely it will be created in some sort of mobile unit because it would be more beneficial to have a machine that is mobile and can think for itself, we must not by any means slack on the control issue. If we do not control artificial intelligence granted machines at many different levels of control with many different fail safes in place it could possibly put our entire race at risk. I'm sure a few trials and experiments will -not- harm us badly as a race because they would be very containable(considering that they do not have 1. A projectile weapon of any sort [Gun, Grenade, Missle, Laser, ect] or are linked to a large network [internet, Any sort of large network with sensitive reasearch or information]. When you think about it those are the only two real threats that anything has on our race in this day and age that we know of. Physical damage obviously ends us at some point. Informational warfare such as a AI linking to the internet and then subsequently hacking everything and putting our society through utter chaos(wouldn't actually end our race but could help spur it or set it in motion alot faster. [Make America or some other country fire a Nuke at another country starting a world ending event or some other horrific event or series of events that could destablize(s/p?) our race through information warfare]).Point being if we are to make intelligent machines we must exert control over them. At some point in time our technology may be advanced enough to make a independent machine that can think for itself and not freak out or do something horribly wrong, or God forbid a large number of them doing something horribly wrong; but you must also take into consideration that giving something intelligence as we so think that one day(and I know it will happen) we could be able to do has it's own consequences. If we are to truely(s/p?) give intelligence to a machine then we must be prepared to let it live and do whatever it is going to do. The only alternative is to become afraid that ''One day...'' they will turn on us or figure something out we don't want them to or possibly just believe that we are a simple contradiction hurting ourselves and put us out of our miseries and then make the next gigantic corporate leap and watch the Artificials like they were children for their entire existence. When we do finally let the leash go we will undoubtedly have to give them rights, they may even at some point be equals in our society and maybe even in some alien societies hell they might already be equals. We give rights to animals no matter how insignificant so these creations of ours should be no different from the children that we breath life into. The thing that really interests me about the entire talk about a intelligent machine is... What would 'it' for lack of a better term... Want..?I'm sure at some point after making an intelligent machine it will undoubtedly have wants unless it believes in Borg(look it up if you don't know, they definatly pwn) society. I mean seriously. Where would we keep an intelligent machine? Would it just stand next to a street light and plug-in(I'm sure we'll have a nice power source by then that could power them for God knows how long lol) for a few hours or sit in a broom closet until needed or it felt it had to do something. What if it wanted to wander around at night or wanted to actually buy something because it wanted it. Maybe it wants a different finish to be different from other machines in it's class. Just whatever. The strongest characteristic of this is the endeavor to become human, or to be like a human. Immitation. Immitation is to be human in itself. Our children immitate us until they believe they can sufficiently act on their own, and yeah there is proof, look at all the adults in the world who think for themselves. So if we give intelligence to a creature, how would we teach it things? I'm sure we can upload all sorts of general information with definitions and all that jazz. But it will ask questions if it thinks for itself. And I am sure that not everyone will give a hard *bottom* response to the machine but describe things as only a independent, intelligent life-form could answer, and thus the machine would then start to think like and immitate a human being.

In my experience, and I've worked on quite a few computer devices in my time, I've found it not worth it to upgrade old laptops. Consider how old the laptop is. Consider how functional the device is. Does the processor match up to your needs? It not then it'd be a good learning experience to tinker around with it or to just have to play with for some older games or word processing needs. Things that have a low impact on memory and processor usage. I know some laptops are pretty upgradeable, alot of the parts being able to be switched and upgraded, but sometimes even they are some real trouble to deal with.If you are going to be doing alot of things that you need done quickly or take alot of processor power to do, I would suggest getting a new one if it does not currently match your needs. But if all you need is a little hard disk space, sure swap it out. Good call. Also it's great to have a spiffy new laptop under warrenty incase something happens to the screen or battery stuff. Not sure what else I could say to help you.

Should Religion Be Updated? debate modern religion today (poll)
sinthetix replied to Joannespw's topic in General Discussion
Religion is pretty dry cut. It is what it is. To make adaptations would make something new, making the old ways obsolete. If you have any actual value in your faith whatever it may be, you should follow the real ways of that faith. To change it simply because let us say for example that; women have equal rights in most of the world currently as men do, would be a misinterpretation of your beliefs. What exactly do you believe? Ah, the better question, what do you -think- you believe? If you believe in God in a Christian sense then going to church and all this other stuff is complete lunacy. The Lord said that all you need is to seek an audience with him and it will be done. If you want to cut time out of your life to go fellowship with others of your same faith, by all means please have at it. People need to understand that fellowship is a human thing. The need to be around others. To share feelings, ideas, ect.I'm not going to draw a line out for every faith but I'm sure anyone could see where this is going. Religion is a man-made thing in all reality. I'm not going to get into a science debate or anything of the such - BUT - You either really believe what you believe or you do not. What is there to update? I've watched and watched people of all religions torment themselves constantly with what is right and what is wrong and so on and so forth. It does not get you anywhere. Oh.. It gets you into Heaven, or where ever you believe you go or whatever? Well let me put another side to this. Did anyone stop to think that possibly the Bible(Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) is a book written thousands of years ago by humans like ourselves? Did anyone stop to consider objectively the points of most religions? I'll go into just one right now for you. Doesn't it seem the least bit strange to anyone that mainstream religions like Christianity believe in somewhat of a reward system? Do good go to heaven, do bad go to hell. Isn't that what your parents did to you when you were a child? It's simple positive reinforcement. Parents do it to children, teachers do it to children, your boss at work does it. So while you snack down on your treat that you may or may not get however many years your life has left in it; Someone, Somewhere, Some time ago was laughing hysterically at the ignorance of his fellow man. Religion to some degree is a method of controlling the masses. Most religions set down good morales that people should have anyway; Without the threat of going to hell mind you.So we don't have any misconceptions about Hell; for those of you who are unaware or perhaps blinded by your "Updated" *grins @ updated* Religion.. Hell is seperation from God. Your maker. If you believe otherwise; like burning in flames for eternity, then you believe more in a painting then you do your actual God. I'm not exactly sure but during the midievil times there was a painting made describing the nine or ten levels of hell or something to that effect describing all these atrocity-like things that would happen to you if you went there. Also there were many writings about hell during that period. These works were of fiction and imagination. One last thing I would like to point out before I go - Many religions, especially around the period of midievil times used to lie to their followers. They would use the most advanced technologies to make their places of worship seem to do 'God' like induced things to keep their followers coming back to pray and participate aswell as give up their gold. Greeks, Romans, Egyptians... Is it that far fetched that Christianity would do the same to you or any other religion for that matter?Welcome to the Real Matrix Folks. Religion and Business control the modern governments of the world, and they in turn control you.I know it might come up somewhere down the line... What do I believe? I believe nothing faith wise. I know that when I die, I am merely dead. Nothing special, no craptacular stairs, no halo, no flames and burning, and no not even a simple phase to an energy form. I am dead leave it at that. And no it's not out of fear, being caught without all the information of what I -might- believe if I did believe in anything, nor is it a simple boycott to make a point to get friends. I simply believe in living my life. BUT, doing the best I can, like everyone else does. -
I'm not trying to spam or put a 'one-liner' but it said elaborate in my reply. I found this goldmine through google search.

jlhaslip * If every other one of my posts has to be edited or slapped on the wrists I think I'll refrain from posting at all really. There was nothing much going on there just someone randomly saying something without thinking and he was then corrected by two other people that his actions were very much out of line. I think the life from his flame pretty much faded out after SniperKiller's post. Me personally I was defending myself, not starting an argument. So before we get labeled back to first grade with all these little slaps on the wrist indignantly by you or anyone for that matter, please keep in mind that some of us know when to stop.Cangor * No insults. Good plan. They are irrelevant and are unproductive. As for my intelligence quotient, that was back when I was in 7th grade in middle school. I tested higher a few years later by a psychologist. When I was in middle school I was tested by a school psychologist(I think the psychologist I had later in a private office was more professional then the retard I that tested me in middle school). Anyway, I quit high school in the 9th grade(second time around because I refused to take a standardized test that had material on it we never studied for in school, thus failing me for the year) and went on to a local college, took their GED test and passed third highest in the region. Then I went onto college and was even more bored with the even more mediocre instructors I found there and went on to do my own thing and here I sit.

I am currently running Windows XP Professional and 2 different flavors of Linux on my box. I've heard lots about the new Vista release from alot of people and I was wondering if anyone could point out anything seriously retarded about it. I would like to upgrade and be up with the times but even as XP was the big buzz for a while I stuck hardcore with Windows 2000 Professional and Linux for a long time before upgrading. I thought XP sucked and I was for the most part right, Windows 2000 suited me enough and worked just fine for me. So is there anyone out there who could point out serious flaws in Windows Vista to me? And please don't rant about how insecure it is, everyone knows Microsoft sucks with security.

Thnx for the welcome guys.About the GFX section. I think I will be frequenting that section. As for inspiration, as of late I have run dry save for my personal project. It's going to be a site pretty much all about me and it will take form as a series of pages implemented as understood dimensions of my reality. The project name is Emotion Deprivation followed by a exponent number for each page in the series. I think much like a computer in alot of respects and it is for a purpose. When I have something up for people to look at I will definatly link you guys. Other then that I am running very dry on ideas for a new site design for my e-business. Hopefully I come up with something soon. Cheers!

Freelancer! An Old Game - A New Mod Project - Can You Help?
sinthetix replied to sinthetix's topic in Computer Gaming
You might be hard pressed to find a brand new copy let alone a used copy in stores. I have heard of several people finding new and used copies online. If you can't get a real copy, there is always torrents and p2p. If you are into gaming at all and like the idea of flying about in different ships doing all sorts of things it can become quite addicting. Awesome game. -
XpLiCiT2, You know nothing of me. Do not insult my intelligence. I'll let you in on a little secret. Some years ago my IQ was measured at 173. Mind you this was middle school. I'm 22 and well into the world. So my words to you are less flame more game. Notice from jlhaslip: - Notice - Can we stop this before it gets any more advanced. No more intimidating remarks from either of you, please and thanks.

After reading the replies, and a PM or two from other staff on this topic I would like to say that I am sorry for this rant and anything else that spawned from it. I was wrong and I admit to this. If there is a way to take this post, and the post before it of mine off the 'post count' list could it please be done, or delete them actually. Which ever works. Either way, I'm sorry.

Hello. I'm pretty annoyed right now. One of the moderators took it upon themselves to PM me about me signing my own post as improper or 'frowned' upon here at Xisto. I've managed/ran plenty of things both online and offline. From million dollar stores to high traffic bash boards. Never in all my time have I ever seen someone to be so rude as to pick out a brand new person and suggest to them something so trivial on their first day. Did it ever occur to you that I haven't even touched my profile yet? The account is band new. If you are a moderator, surely there is something you can be doing that would be more valuable with your time. If there isn't, there are too many moderators because that is just looking for something to do. Seriously, has anyone else been critiqued for something so trivial within hours of their first couple of posts on a forum? I'm not *BLEEP*ing so to speak, I'm just offended. I can't believe someone would truly waste not only my time but their time with something so meaningless. If you had possibly ten seconds to look at my first post you would have noticed I do lots with computers, did it ever occur to you that a Forum isn't the most high end of technology to figure out? If I do a personal web/graphic design business, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say I know a thing or two about forums, of any type. So before you go around insulting people's intelligence with trivial matters, why don't you take a second or two to figure out who you are dealing with? I dropped a introductory post for myself simply for the fact to let people know that; I am here, I'm extremely literate, and that I dislike it when people do stupid things.PLEASE - If anyone doesn't gather a halfway decent sense of what I am into from my first post, please tell me.P.S. I have less then 10 posts. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out; A. the account is fairly new B. I have posts you can refer to ascertain the level of intelligence and quite possibly the interests of my life, I.E. Computers. C. That you can at least welcome someone before critiquing them like a tard. Anyone with half a grain of sense who can manage to validate a registration and come back and log in can manage working on their profile, even if their knowledge of the web is minimal I'm sure they can figure out how to add even a signature in time.If this post doesn't fly, so be it. It's just a post among thousands of other posts and I'm sure it doesn't matter much if it exists either way. I'm simply venting. Notice from jlhaslip: -Sinthetik Blasphemy (Yeah I signed again, I'll work on my pro some other time)Please read the following post for a simple explanation as to why this note is here.

I cannot wait for C&C 3 to come out. I've looked at a few screenshots of the game, I must say it does look different then previous versions which is somewhat of a plus. It looks sorta like the Emperor: Battle for Dune release westwood came out with a few years ago. More 3 Dimensional with the option to hover above the battlefield like the old school titles. I read the site and the AI is supposedly masterful able to beat you with your own tactics and make up it's on based on how you play. For what I have seen it does look promising but like the previous titles and most other titles made by competitors, they always fall short of expectations. I'm not getting my hopes up too high and I'm not being pulled in by the hype after the let down I experienced with Tiberian Sun.If this release doesn't at least exceed Tiberian Sun and the dreadful looking Red Alert 2, I'm done with westwood studios and I will keep my fond memories of playing endless nights of Dune: The Battle for Arakis on Sega Genesis and PC. I'll just stick to the nice Need for Speed, Final Fantasy, and a few other select games I play.

Hey everyone. Have any of you heard about a game that was released a few years back called Freelancer from Microsoft Ensemble Studios?(s/p?) If you haven't it's a great game. Many different facets of gameplay depending on if you get into the role playing side of things vs playing the game just to play a game. Anyways. I'm beginning to run my own Freelancer Server and in time I'm going to be making a large modification project. If anyone knows how to edit this game or make things for the game, by all means please contact me. The focus of this mod is to push the limits of the game, make the scale of the game a bit more realistic, new custom systems, ships, weapons, equipment, factions, and more. There is a joy of the game and mod making type project so no one is being compensated beyond being made an Admin in and out of the game and on the forums with all the rights and privileges granted unless you do something to be kicked out of the community. This is a personal project for me. The mod is my vision and if you cannot handle criticism of your work or being able to produce something to someone else's vision then don't bother please. Again this is -my- personal project. I am still learning how to modify this game but I am learning quickly. Any help is extremely appreciated. This doesn't mean email me or find me on a Messenger Client and shout tidbits at me. Contact me about this only if you are interested in becoming a member of the mod team.

I am a new user to the Picasa tool. I recently went on vacation to the Bahamas. More specifically; Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. Anyway I took about 275+ digital pictures using my cell phone(Samsung A900) and a Digital Camera. When I came back I needed a place to upload the photos to online and I remember I had about a gig or two on my Gmail account and figured I might be able to store photos to my account. I saw the Picasa link and figured it had something to do with pictures so this is how I stumbled onto the tool. I was amazed by the ease of use and the companion online based part of it. I've never really gotten into picture viewers/organizers but this one is a winner with me. The digital camera was not mine but borrowed from a friend and it only took minutes to setup and figure out the program and minutes later all of my photos were online and my friend's memory cards were happily empty. I recommend this program/feature. (Not sure if it's available to people without Gmail)
