  1. Can you elaborate on that a little bit ? i.e. posting a working example here would be a lot more helpfulThanks
  2. haha.. tattoo..leave the poor kid alone i say let there be both linux & winblows - if the world is a happier place that way
  3. Givn: Good to hear your optimistic views about longhorn... welcome to Xisto & keep posting
  4. You're right. The legibility for the starter and upgrade packages are 10 and 60 posts (50 additional over the first 10), but Hosting Credits are what keeps your account alive. The amount of Hosting Credits is the exact number of days that you can idle around without sending in a single post on this board. Your account gets de-activated after that and you have to contact the admins and start posting again to get it re-enabled. Make sure your hosting credits are at least around 15 so that you can safely take off for around two weeks if the circumstances do not permit you to be online & post...
  5. Right...all of you thanks for the help.. I'll give it a shot and get back to you with more about how it worked out ;)thanks again
  6. Thanks for sharing it with us - but thats not quite the right idea. The max_allowed_packet option specifies how large your MySQL Query/Data Packet can be, and NOT the Maximum File Size that MySQL can maintain. MySQL can theoretically handle database files upto 1 Terrabyte in size. Your article demonstrates that the recent versions of MySQL server can respond to Querries and the MySQL Client can receive data packets - both of which are around 1GB in size... so there Have fun mucking around with MySQL... refer to the my.cnf file that I've posted, for your initial setup, if you need to.. All the best
  7. Try the following sites. I submitted through them and my site showed up within 2 minutes 1. http://www.addme.com/ 2. http://www.submitexpress.com/ 3. http://www.evrsoft.com/fastsubmit/ 4. http://www.ineedhits.com/free-tools/submit-free.aspx The 3rd link, is a ONE-CLICK submission site submitting to 106 engines at one. Have fun
  8. Spotok: The backup feature in Xisto cPanel is disabled (or at least was, when I tried it last). Clicking on it will only inform you that the backup isn't enabled. So, you have to resort to manual backup - i.e., download your site by FTP... hold on - why would you need to download your site ? In all probablity, you'd be designing it on your personal machine - so you have the original copy right there - and then you just upload it via FTP to Xisto... so there..
  9. Cool Some more stimulating stuff for my GK... Thanks for sharing it with us..
  10. Hi all, Recently there has been lots of questions about configuring MySQL. Usually the rpm comes with a few sample MySQL config files, but here I'm providing you with a fully working one for your reference. Feel free to modify it to suit your needs. One word: My MySQL is configured to use only large InnoDB Databases, because of the large volume of transactions it handles. You'll find a reflection of that in the my.cnf... Most home users would use ISAM DB instead. So make the suitable modifications before you use... Sample "my.cnf"
  11. For php - the php.ini file should reside in your /etc/ directory. You should go modify that As for mysql, all the executables should have been placed into /usr/bin/ by default... Go there and use mysqladmin and mysql - these two programs .. mysqladmin is the one used for overall administration of your mysql daemon. And just mysql is the database access client.. you also have to configure the my.cnf config file in /etc directory. The mysql that comes prepackaged with FC3 is probably around version 4.0 and very very old... version 4.1.9 is out with multilingual characterset support - you should download that from http://www.mysql.com/ Regards
  12. Hey harriko, You could try using the DOSBOX Dos Emulator from SourceForge... this is what they say about it: It's supposed to provide support for your old dos programs and recognizes many sound cards too.. I haven't tried it out yet - in the process. You should give it a shot too... Can get it @: http://www.dosbox.com/news.php?show_news=1 All right, downloaded the software and tried it out - ITS REALLY GOOD. check my other post: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/81848-topic/?findpost=1064288165 I think you should use it - it'll help you configure those SoundBlaster parameters to quite an extent... All the best
  13. Me too me too.. Even I played almost all of them in those series. Thanks for the link though... Now I'm going to go off into a download spree P.S. I just visited that link and am back here... What can I say other than a big THANKS Oh man, that's a treasure trove you directed me to... Some of those games I've been looking for FOREVER. Came back to add some more. I hit the jackpot Found Quest For Glory 1, 2 & 3...Yipeeee !! Now gotto get hold of 4 & 5 from somewhere and my series is complete.... man, it's been such a long time dream !! Thanks again MC
  14. Lol.. unfortunately there's no such way in DOS - and autodetect mode as nils said, is the USER... but since found out all that info about your sound card, if you look a little carefully you'll see half of your needed data is right there:The Sound Blaster Port in DOS will always be at 220 I think. Look at the second line. IRQ 5 --> Thats your IRQ All modern cards should be compliant to a level that around Sound Blaster 16/AWE 32/32/64 - so your type should be 6 ... I say, try this string: SET BLASTER = A220 I5 D0 P330 T6 If it doesn't work - repost and I'll see what else can I come up with.... All the best
  15. Completely agree with that. The msn bar, though probably disposable, consumes a huge part of the screen (strikingly similar to the old MSN Channel Bar - don't you think?). And if that's the all new Start Menu, I think I'm going to start using XP Dont know how the final product will come out - but the whole interface looks immensely bloated up and shaky.... it still has a long way to go before it can catch up with the finesse thats been present in the Mac interface since day 1.
  16. Hi, I'm trying to build up a nice collection of almost museum editions of all the sw's in market... I've managed to get hold of quite a few VERY old dos games and applications and now am seeking Autodesk Animator 2D - the one that used DOS4GW to run in Protected Mode... anyone still has copies of it ? Another one I'm looking for is Paint Shop v1-4 - the precursors to our Paint Shop Pro today...If anyone has either of them please post back... It'd be a great favor...Thanks
  17. If i remember correctly - the general format used to be an interrupt setting, a port settng and ... hold on let me recall...ummm.. SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 T6 A = Sound Blaster's Base I/O Port (usually defaults to 220) I = Interrupt Request Line (try from 5-9) D = 8 Bit DMA Channel (usually 0-3) P = Midi Port (MPU-401 Base I/O Port) T = Type of Sound Blaster Card.... Possible Values of T ----------------------- 1 = Sound Blaster 1.5 2 = Sound Blaster Pro I 3 = Sound Blaster 2.0 4 = Sound Blaster Pro II 6 = Sound Blaster 16/AWE 32/32/64 ----------------------- There, you have it all Try various combinations of those values till you get one that works for you.. All the best
  18. Hi, I'm trying to track down people who have played the whole series of Quest for Glory (1-5) from Sierra aka Hero's Quest 1-5. Used to be a good RPG with a fantastic storyline back in early 90's.. Anyone played it - and still have copies ???Thanks...
  19. Thanks, but does that fulfill your primary objective --> that of copying the files off one server and dumping them on another ?? This looks more like a copy from one directory to other on the same server - kind of script...
  20. You probably have to specify the Server that dials out as your default gateway for the other hosts or else they wouldnt know who to get the connection from.. which OS are you using btw ?
  21. Right... Ideally the CPU Idle process should take up 98-99% of the Cycles when you system isn't really doing something. If you see svchost shoot up to that number, then definitely that's your problem.... I'm using Win2K - so my patch will differ a little bit from yours... the patch for fixing this (win2k) can be found at:http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download Maybe, you can follow this link and try and travel a few levels up and get the corresponding patch for XP.... It's worth a shot
  22. Thats a fat lot man...You are the prime object of my envy now
  23. There goes my hope... I think I'm going to go sulk in some dark corner now
  24. Just expand that a little bit - SE = Search Engine.. now go back and read the previous posts and they'll probably make a lot more sense All the best..& welcome to Xisto
