  1. let me point out that i don't share other peoples religious beliefs nor am i in any way associated with any religion.
i liked how you assumed my beliefs though.

I did not assume that you were affiliated with any religion, just that you believe in God and that's a fair assumption given the content of your post.

When you say you don't share other people's religious beliefs, does that mean you have your own religion?

  2. wrong again. athiesm is a choice to no believe. basically it's a belief that there is no god. if the belief is strong enough, it can very well be considered a religion or a religious belief. maybe not strong in #'s compared to those who believe in god, but still a religion when we are talking about a belief.
you cease to amaze me. you must be bored again. does this mean you are coming back to liven up the forum? do you still have me blocked? you never could argue with me because of my persistance to prove you wrong in so many ways it's not even funny. the truth is, your your religious belief in atheism is weak....and so are you.

Well, in that case, allow me to join in the discussion. Maybe you could debate with me without resorting to ad hominem attacks.

let me just point out that the majority of people in this world believe in a god or higher power. you are in the minority.

    Irrelevant.

    you always will be.

I see you've bought a time machine since I was last on this forum.

to believe in nothing ultimately means you are living in nothing. basically what you believe is your life held no meaning. you live and die and that's it.

Utter bollocks. Every good person lives to make a positive contribution to society and it's hard to feel happy and fulfilled otherwise. Whether it's helping people in a shop of writing Romeo and Juliet - we all contribute something for the good of society.

you're a lemming. a creature of habit lead by society because you don't know any better. you're a worker ant just trying to survive until you die and your bones turn to dust. what a pointless way to live. as a teacher, you haven't even helped anyone when you can pass on your beliefs and insights in to the world and universe. i would say do some soul searching, but according to you, you have no soul. if you can't count on anything completing you before you die, then obviously you have lead and will continue to lead an incomplete life.

Aren't you the worker ant, trying to do God's work to win a place in heaven?

i have heard you talk about your beliefs and i have argued them. you can call people liars, belittle them, and put them down with every post you make according to your own belief system as a teacher or whatever you believe in(except god). you put me on ignore though. you can dish out a lot of crap but you just can't take it when someone discredits you as a person and what you stand for? you probably still have me on ignore. that's fine. i just love telling the world about you still every time you post.

More personal attacks. I see why Bikerman's chosen to ignore you.

  3. I have to agree with you on this one and I'd like to add my own perspective on things.....It has been for some time. I used to moderate this forum (left ~2007 when I realised it was easier to install Apache/PHP on my own computer) and come back every few months just to see how everything's coming along. Each time I come back it always amazes me that I've not been demoted or PMed by someone asking about where I've been. Xisto used to be an amazing place until the admin started messing around with it (and, IMO at least, trying to turn it into Xisto), which was achieved in the following ways:* Enforcing a set of stricter rules; we were even encouraged to warn people (which could lead a rejection for a hosting request) for signing their names at the end of their posts.* Moving of the Army System to a separate site and eventually closing that down* Deleting the SPAM forum (IIRC it was no post count and a bit like /b/, except you couldn't post porn or insult other people)* Removing the Reputation system (something which is actually quite a good incentive to make quality posts). All these helped remove the FUN factor that previously attracted me to Xisto and this caused me to leave, along with many other members. It was not uncommon to see 200+ guests on the site with ~10 members online at any one time. Now I see there are just 70 guests and me. Since leaving I see a number of other poor decisions have been made:* A greater emphasis on the pre-moderation of topics (topics being made invisible until approved by a moderator), I can't think of any other forum which employs this so readily -- comments sections on websites do but not forums)* The total rebranding of the site (this ties in with what I was saying about the removal of the FUN factor -- KS sounds far less fun than Xisto, in fact Xisto used to be the name of an arcade)* General apathy when it comes to removing redundant forums. I think this is the first time I've visited that the old Army System forum has been properly archived.I don't quite know what's going through Opa's mind. I think KS is trying to be a haven for intelligent people to make useful how-to topics and tutorials and engage in insightful debates. Sounds like a great idea but this is the internet - and it's the feeling of community and enjoyment that will keep this site going.edit: The one thing I would like to add is that I haven't got a clue about KS's current financial situation so don't assume from my post that this site will close down as things have been going this way for years and the site's still up and running. All I'm saying is, the site's very different to how it used to be and this has caused a loss of some active members, who are yet to be replenished.

  4. The homepage says "Xisto Quest for Wisdom through Knowledge". On the same page I am presented with options for free web hosting. At first sight it appears that a self-improvement website and free web hosting forum tried to merge with devastating consequences. There are far too many menu options and all of them are practically identical to each other - you only need four clear categories "home, about us, join in, other hosting sites". You should also get rid of the music in the background - I like to listen to music whilst I'm using the computer and I only expect to hear it on websites when I'm playing a game. The other thing I've never been a fan of in websites is the use of an "Enter Site" button/page; it's completely unnecessary - why would I not want to enter the website after typing the URL in my browser and waiting for the front page to load?

I actually liked the name Xisto as a free hosting website: it's catchy and modern (and the fact that's it's so unusual makes you think about it more so more likely to remember it). Someone mentioned that Xisto doesn't sound like a web host either so you can't complain about the change. The point is that Xisto could be anything (although, funnily enough, it does sound like an arcade) but Xisto is clearly about self-improvement, not hosting. However, this site clearly isn't dedicated to free hosting any more.

Tbh, I just feel a little bit confused by it all. I'm hoping that this isn't the finished product and that mine and other people's suggestions will be taken on board. The only real problem is that it's very hard to tell exactly what this site is for. It is for this reason that I agree with SM - relaunch it as a separate website.

Don't take this the wrong way though. I really like what you do and wouldn't have been a member for five years if I didn't - I just think that there is a fair amount to be improved upon so that the can go from great to better!

  5. First off I'm not even sure why people go so crazy for this holiday.

Because people are naturally greedy. Reminds me of when some garage in London were giving out free fuel. Brought out the worst in everyone...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/7599639.stm

Black Friday sounds terrible though - all those people queuing up just to get a few quid off some merchandise (although I suppose I should have guessed that it's terrible - the clue is in the name). I'm glad we don't have it over here...

  6. There's also the fear of the number 13 (I believe it even had a long technical "-phobia" term) which I've never understood.

It's because Judas was the 13th disciple at the Last Supper (as in he was the last person to sit at the table). This turned into a superstition that if you have a table with 13 diners, one would die. In time people ended up believing 13 was unlucky generally.

  7. The internet has hit a new low here. Here we all come to the world wide web to learn and enjoy ourselfs and some troubled teen kills himself as people watch and Egg him on!

Yeah but they thought it was a joke and I'll be honest, if someone I didn't know told me they were going to kill themselves in front of me, I'd think it was a joke too.

I just hope that this will shut down some of these sites such as Justin TV. Bad enough that everywhere you turn you have pedifiles searching myspace, friendster and all the others. Now this?

    That's a bit extreme.

  8. (i mean Ł9b+ ($18bn+) for the freaking olympics?! We dont even want the olympics!

Yes we do. The government has been promising to revamp East London and finally they're doing it. At last, they're building the velodrome Stratford has for so long been asking for.

    Cameron is a step forward

    Really?

edit: Congratulations of a good new president by the way, even though the the cynical side of me would say that he only got in due to the fact most of news channels were biased in favour of him rather than because of his policies  Is it me or is anyone else going else going to miss hearing any new Bushims?

  9. Saw this in the paper yesterday and it made me laugh:

    Posted Image

The Welsh reads "I am not in the office at the moment. Please send any work to be translated."

When Swansea council emailed a translation service to translate a new road sign into Welsh, they received a response saying that the translator was unavailable. Mistaking this for the correct translation of "No entry for heavy goods vehicles. Residential site only", they had the sign made up and erected outside Asda in Morriston, Swansea. The sign remained there until local Welsh speakers pointed out the embarrassing error to the council who then had it removed.

However, this is not the first time the Welsh language has been mistranslated or even put in the wrong country!

    • Cyclists between Cardiff and Penarth in 2006 were left confused by a bilingual road sign telling them they had problems with an "inflamed bladder".

    • In the same year, a sign for pedestrians in Cardiff reading 'Look Right' in English read 'Look Left' in Welsh.

    • In 2006, a shared-faith school in Wrexham removed a sign which translated the Welsh for staff as "wooden stave".

    • Football fans at a FA Cup tie between Oldham and Chasetown - two English teams - in 2005 were left scratching their heads after a Welsh-language hoarding was put up along the pitch. It should have gone to a match in Merthyr Tydfil.

    • People living near an Aberdeenshire building site in 2006 were mystified when a sign apologising for the inconvenience was written in Welsh as well as English.

  10. Believe me if I had a feasible idea for a website that would bring in lots of users (and therefore make me lots of money) I wouldn't tell you (or anyone else) :)

This website was first hosted on Xisto and gets about 200k unique hits a month and all it is a bunch of copy-and-pasted articles, games and videos off the Internet (no offence to the owner):

    http://nerdnirvana.org/

The idea behind it originally (I think) was a website for the owner and his friends to visit during school that wasn't blocked so that they could avoid doing work. And it's evolved from there. So you can see it's a successful model and one which you can easily create yourself and the only work behind it would be finding the articles and videos as well as uploading the games.

It might not be a unique idea but it has great potential to be active.

  11. If all goes well November 8th, 2009 people can begin submitting their nominations for their awards in which everyone will have 3 weeks to submit their lists. Then in December 1st the voting will begin in which all members can vote for their favorite members who have the most nominations. Then the first week of January the winners will be announced and will be giving a Xisto award banner and possibly a Mycent reward. So now for the award categories

Wow - preparations are starting early this year :P

    :)

  12. Actually, the trial, if any, should be dismissed. The article says that the guy willingly gave his account information away to the woman when they were "married." Although he didn't consider the risk probably due to his "love" for her, he should have still known the consequences of his action. Therefore the woman committed no unauthorized hacking.

Fine then. Maybe she didn't gain unauthorised access but she still didn't have explicit permission to modify any data, presumably just to view it so a crime is still commited.

herefore the difference between these two gamers and someone uprooting someone else's vegetables is that the owner most likely makes a living from the vegetables. It'd be a slightly different story if the male gamer had entered a contest that offers money to the winner(s) and his character was one of the best out there, but that still wouldn't be equal to the scenario of the proud allotment owner.

I doubt most allotment holders make a decent living from their patch. Most people do it for the fun of gardening and the rewarding feeling of being able to eat your own-grown produce.

  13. Ok that title says it all and I nearly had a stroke thinking that was the reason for being arrested, but alas, she got busted for illegal computer use. Of course, this shows you how the internet has made people become stupid, first the guy for wasting police department time saying his digital character was murdered, second the cops actually listening to him and then dragging a women 620 miles because she did this. As for the women, get a life, if you can't handle an online divorce then your not able to have a stable relationship or even a marriage. Either way, it is still funny and yet sad at the same time go figure.

What are you talking about? The man's account was hacked and all his hard work was ruined. What's the difference between that and someone uprooting the vegetables of a proud allotment owner? None.

The headline makes the offence appear to be "online murder" which it isn't; the offences are gaining unauthorised access to a computer system and illicitly modifying data.

  14. If you are not convinced, simply go here, http://www.peta.org/videos/. If you have watched 3videos and are not convinced, watch 3 more, if still not convinced, watch 3 more, and if still not
convinced... you are totally heartless in my opinion.

What a way to get people to use your site. Watch 9 propaganda videos for some animal rights charity and if, after that, you don't support our cause you're branded some heartless, callous idiot.
