  1. Seems pretty cool but a little bit of false advertising. The title says free models when the models are actually around $23 each. For that price I could just simply make my own models with my own copyright. I guess this would be good for people that:A: Don't have a good modeling softwareB: Are not very good at making there own modelsC: Are using them in a game that is very basic But they are not original and people will most likely know that you are using models that you bought. Other then that though I think it is a very good business to have. It's a good idea to sell models for cheap so you can make a little money for your work. You models are pretty cool and some of them seem very realistic, some of them such as the laptop almost look good enough to be from a 3D scanner. Did you use a 3d scanner for any of them or just model them by hand?Good Luck,Sparkx
  2. This question is not as easy as you may think to answer, so please read my post completely before replying. I am trying to make an applet that responds to mouse movements but I always have trouble. I can make it work just fine if I find the distance from a point using getX(); or getXOnScreen(); but that's not what I want to do. I want to get the direct input from the mouse. Why? Because when the mouse (cursor) hits the edge of the screen its position stays the same even when you move it. I have tried using a robot to keep the mouse in the center of the screen (setPosition or something like that). But that is just glitch because the robot no longer works when the cursor leaves the window. One possible solution that I haven't gotten to work yet is full screen mode (as in actually full screen not just maximized). This would also solve the problem of accidentally clicking things in the background (not on the game). Any Suggestions? Please post/link to tutorials, source and/or documentation. Thanks, Sparkx
  3. Looks like a nice program. Maybe you should post a screen shot so that people viewing this forum know it's not a virus (most people see a rapid share file and automatically think its got spy ware on it). I am thinking about getting it, I have had the problem of multiple download directories, especially when working temporary directors that have a very long address. Good Post. Now off topic a bit... You probably (as in should do this before applying to be hosted) put quotes around your entire post. Quotes look like [ quote ] Not My Own Content [/ quote ] without any spaces between the brackets []. When you post they appear as: You should also include in your post a URL to your source. In this case it would be something like: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. You can edit your current post by clicking the edit button at the bottom right corner of your post. Please always remember to give credit where credit needs to be given. This is something the Administrators look for when accepting new hosting accounts. Side note: I don't believe the URL to the download is valid. I tried downloading it and I received file not found error. It may just be my computer though. This URL however seems valid: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Thanks, Sparkx
  4. The most common and most widely supported database software (as stated above) would be MySQL. It is also very simple to use and most web hosts (including Xisto) have some version of MySQL installed. If you are trying to make a social network, you should download Lamp or Wamp (linux/windows Apache MySQL PHP). This will give you a good starting point for your server. Once you finish it (or before depending on what you want to do) you can upload it to a professional server like Xisto as long as it includes PHP and MySQL and they are the same version that you developed the site with. The advantage of not hosting it yourself is you can keep developing, turn off your computer and avoid getting hacked. That assumes that you are planning on making a text based/usually web based social network such as Facebook, MySpace and even some parts of Xisto. If you want to go more advanced, you may need to make your own database or modify an open source one (however this is usually only for professional programmers and is very rarely done even then).Good Luck,Sparkx
  5. I still can't get it to initialize the installer. I don't think Google web browser supports my computer or something. I have Windows XP but it has non-defaulted services (which I think might be the problem). Does anyone know what service(s) need to be running to get it to download? I have also had similar problems with automatic updating virus scanners in the past. I have also have had similar problems being connected to from other networked computers (I can connect to them just fine but they can’t connect to me). Would these things indicate maybe a messed up windows setting? I do have a firewall but it is on my router and not on my computer (I wouldn't think that would get in the way, it doesn't do anything like that for other computers on my network). I am a system administrator and network administrator. Sorry for being a little off topic, but I really want to try out Google's web browser and get my XP back to normal. Thanks,Sparkx
  6. I’ll give it a try but you can't tell much with 10 minutes of messing around. I am looking for a long term browser not just a small thing that doesn't even load JavaScript. I use Opera and I like its features and speed, but I am always up for trying new things. The download was extremely fast but the installer has been initializing for a few minutes now... The screenshots look good and the very small size just adds to it. I just wish the installer would load already lol...Using Windows XP (That’s probably the problem)From what you have seen would you say it is better then Opera or should I just stick with what works?Sparkx
  7. I have the same problem only with a quest modem and firmware. Feelay you might want to post your firmware/other software version about your router. I know it is something with my router. I set up DMZ host on my computer (just to see if it would work). I restarted my router and computer. Still didn't work. I also have windows XP but I doesn't even work on Hardy Linux. Please post how you solved your problem (if you solved it). I really need my own host (not because I don't like Xisto) but because there is some software I am making that requires the internet port listening.Anyway I have tried some things (they didn't work for me but they might help you). Remember you cannot usually forward port 80 and access it on the home network. You need to try from an external network because port 80 is usually reserved for the control panel or setup for your router. Also check to make sure you are forwarding the correct IP and have the correct firewall settings or no firewall (only to see if that is the problem then you should turn your firewall back on and re-configure it). Thanks,Sparkx
  8. I would suggest using java to make your game. First off it can run on all platforms (so not only windows users can use it), it's portable so it can be stored on a flash drive and it can be very easy to make a simple game. There is lots of support on the Sun forums for getting started. One downside is going from a basic 3d game to an advanced one is incredibly hard especially if you were using other people's classes for the basic one. Another downside is that generally Java games are slower on computers then native ones (c++ est). C++ has some good websites to learn 3d. I will put some links to some sites, once you complete the tutorials you will be able to make a basic C++ 3d game. nehe I would suggest using dev c++ for your free compiler that is if the company name (Bloodshed) doesn't bother you. Dev C++ As for modeling, I have looked high and low for a good modeler and was disappointed. You could give Blender a try. But personally I think Blender is very hard to use in comparison to other commercial soft wares. Good luck, Sparkx
  9. It may be possible that they don't require conditions to support biological Life. Read on Artical in "Ask An Astrobiological Philosopher" from Popular Science. Source: Steven ****, NASA Chief Historian and an astrophysicist specializing in astrobiology and the postbiological universe. Popular Science Sept 2008 I think it is possible but not probable that other being even came close to the same technology that we have developed. Just think about how different everything would be if we simply started by making vehicles with electricity instead of steam and gas. What problems we would have that we don't have now? How much more or less would we know about electricity and other forces as a result of everyone being around the technology? Just a few questions, what is your opinion? Sparkx
  10. I made a nice simple panel to keep track of the Olympic Medals for my personal use. Then I thought some other people might be interested in it. It works for Opera Web Browser (which is the fastest web browser). Opera works with Windows, but can also be used with Linux. I am not sure about Mac Computers. Head on over here: here to get the newest version of Opera. Installation of Panel: It is actually very easy. Just follow the steps. 1: Check For Panel - Startup Opera and press Shift+F12. Press Panel tab at the top. Make sure Panel Placement is not off or Show panel toggle is checked. 2: Add To Panel - Click the following link, scroll down and press Get Panel and save the bookmark with the default settings. Uninstall: Simply remove the bookmark. Note: Once again this only works with Opera Web Browser. The URL: Olympic Panel Tell me what you think, Sparkx
  11. This is not an original post. Please use quotes while quoting people ext [ quote ] [/ quote ] and include your source in this case it would be http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Quotes look like Please edit your post before an admin or moderator finds it. There should be a button at the bottom of your post that says edit. Anyway Phelps has tied the overall gold medal count for career and I think there is a good chance he will meet his goal and break both records for most Gold Medals in career and most Gold Medals in a single Olympics. Here in America lots of people are hoping for the best, but I always wonder what other countries think about the United State’s swim team? Sparkx
  12. I think port 80 is a default closed port for some modems and routers, you need to go to the router (type in your IP) if a router/modem page pops up then you need to do some configuring and you will NOT be able to access your site from your home network. I have never actually gotten this to work on my modem from quest but you may also want to try localhost. If your site appears it's a network error and not your computer (however since it's a windows computer it might some glitch). If it still doesn't work you need to edit httpd.conf and change the port to another port (reminder when changing ports the url changes to url:port ex port 8080 becomes localhost:8080. If it works then you may need to try port 80 from a computer not attached to your network (that is if you have a router). If you still can't get it to work please post if you have a router or modem and what type of firmware it uses. This will allow people to help you better. Thanks,Sparkx
  13. I’m sorry you’re not getting a quick hosting, but it could take 2 weeks or more. Look at it this way. For the Admins and Moderators, Xisto is just a HOBBY. This is not their JOB. They work, they go on vacation, they have a life just like everyone else. They also post on the forum to keep the current members happy. The Admins get a few requests a day and are just getting a little behind (since it takes a while to add each account not to mention look through every post to make sure they don't host spammers). The Admins have a few Moderators to HELP them look through requests and separate the possible ones from the requests that are clearly from spammers, but the Admins still need to look through the posts of the possible accounts. So as you can see they could take a few weeks to get to your request especially if the Admins work full time. You have not been skipped so don't worry. Usually it takes longer to get a hosted response then it does a denied. So you may think this is too much of a hassle, but Xisto is by FAR the best free web host. You can ask almost any Hosted member and they will tell you the same. Xisto provides more bandwidth and space then they even advertise. The quality of hosting you get here is better then most paid hosts so just be patient and if you really cannot wait A: Start making your site on your own system with LAMP (Apache, MySQL, PHP)B: Join Xisto which has ads, less space and bandwidth, less uptime, but does have instant hosting without posting. Thanks,SparkxSide Note: I don't believe you can get support for Xisto at Xisto or visa versa.
  14. You have some nice links up there. You may want to add a link or to about installing MySQL but other then that this is a pretty good informational post. Personally I found MySQL fairly easy to learn because it is just English with syntax (I’m not sure of SQL is the same). I like the idea of DB forums because you don't need to go step by step just to tell someone something simple. But it sound like it is only for people that already have basic knowledge of SQL (because they guild you rather then telling you). Thanks,SparkxSide Notes: You may want to fix your title, at the moment it says "Databse".
  15. Yes you can use DNS with Xisto. I can't remember the DNS servers exactly but there are many topics about it. Just press search Xisto (at the top) and look for one of the posts about DNS. Co.cc. along with almost every other short URL site or domain site will work Xisto. You should be able to add the following to the control panel of the site the DNS is on (in this case co.cc) DNS 1: NS1.astahost.com DNS 2: NS2.astahost.com In Xisto's cpanel add the site to your parked domains list. I think that’s all you need to do (but it has been a while since I set up my last DNS so I might be forgetting something). Good Luck, Sparkx Notice from BuffaloHELP: Please see below for correct nameservers

    Getting Ip

Just a side message there is NO way to track internet users other then real-time IP lookup or backtracking (which is very hard to do and is usually only used in movies). I would say probably not to even bother making a script like this but rather only accept the referral if the new user is active (for example if it is a forum then make a minimum of 10 posts and remove the referral if the new user gets banned for spamming est.). If one person wants to do that much work just to get a referral then let them have it... Remember Cookies can be edited or deleted and IPs can be changed in less then 30 seconds.Hope this helps,Sparkx
  17. Not sure how secure my site is with my methods, but every way I could think to hack it wont work (you would be surprised how often websites make simple mistakes to make them completely vulnerable). Recently I used a few large sites which were probably the most insecure sites I have ever used. It used java script to check fields (a common mistake). Sessions? Why? - I secure my site by first running a random string that when a use logs in. The string contains A-Za-z0-9 and +-_ est. and is set to a minimum of 15 characters long. Now this is far more secure then you need for sessions as it take over 400 hours to hack a password with the above characters and that are 8 letters long. I store that data on the server and in a cookie. I also use an IP check. When the use visits the site, my site finds the cookie and IP then checks if it is logged in. Possible threats may be if you use a proxy and someone finds your session ID and logs in as you, this is a major threat but there isn't much we could loose on the server.MD5 - You should protect all your server passwords with md5 and simply compare md5's when logging in.Preg-Replace - Check EVERYTHING that comes into your server. Even the slightest error can cause massive injections and really mess up your server. An injection occurs when a hacker (usually the newbies that don't realize most programmers know this glitch) attempt to login using MySQL such as " OR ""="" this would run in MySQL as Where password="" OR ""="". It is possible to exploit it to delete date and even tables. This is what happened with PHPBB (another reason not to use it).Max errors / Attempts: Set up your server to check the number of errors / login attempts and put it in MySQL using the IP. Now IPs can be changed but it takes a lot more time (in comparison) to change an IP then to delete a cookie. This will stop bruit force or people just guessing.Avoid IP banning: Doesn’t work, don’t use it. If they are actually a hacker then could simple change there IP anyway…This should give you the basics to making your secure website. Thanks,Sparkx
  18. Not for me, I can work on it for a few minutes, but then it just gets the error again. This is really bugging me. I installed PHPMyAdmin again and it still doesn't work. I get a slightly different error with this new installation. Warning: Unknown: write failed: No space left on device (28) in Unknown on line 0Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in Unknown on line 0 It's been going on for quite a while maby it is time to get an admin involved? Sparkx
  19. Well, is there any chance you can fix it? It is on and off all the time. Just now I was working and right after exporting tables for a backup I get the same error. I must have not noticed it before or something, it will work just fine on show results (minus a little warning at the bottom of the page). When I go to edit my tables though I get the same error at the bottom but also a MySQL error. ErrorSQL query: SHOW FULL FIELDS FROM `Table`;MySQL said: #1030 - Got error 28 from storage engine Any Suggestions? Thanks, Sparkx
  20. You can use wine. It will run most simple programs but isn't very good in my opinion. Remember Linux != Windows. Depending on what you want to run, wine may run a program without any problems or it may have an error just loading the program. See: Wine HQ for more information. While I am posting here I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask (as it might also help solve your question). Are there free alternatives to wine? I want to find a way to run Solidworks (a cad program that I use quite often) with Linux but it doesn't even load with wine. I am not looking for vmware (or similar things), if I wanted to run windows operating system then I would just boot from it... Thanks, Sparkx
  21. I had made a website to make it very simple to make things like this. It however was never released because of problems (mostly because each page took a good 5-8 seconds just to load), but I was recently working on fixing it and hoping to release it to testing soon. Ill tell you when (or if) I ever release it. In the meantime I would be glad to help out. This being said I can only answer questions and not actually work on it (as I have a bad habit of just making people's sites then allowing them upload it). You will want to look into learning PHP and MySQL, but from your post I cannot tell if you have any experience in programming or not. There are almost as many tutorials about PHP and MySQL out on the web as there are HTML ones so it should be very easy to Google to find a good site.Good Luck,Sparkx
  22. DNS seems pretty interesting. I may get one for my website that is if I ever actually release my site. I assume that with DNS, search engines also recognize the URL for example Google would return http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ rather then http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Is that correct? I just wonder because all my links on my site are based off relative location (using PHP). This is mostly so I can have the same setup on a development computer as on Xisto. Thanks for the explanation and the URL hopefully my Sub domain isn't already taken....Sparkx
  23. Â I am aware that there is already a topic about PHPMyAdmin but I am receiving a different error (and that topic is closed). It seems as if PHPMyAdmin has an error in it's code. I received the following error. Warning: session_write_close() [function.session-write-close]: SQLite: session write query failed: database is full in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/index.php on line 42Warning: session_write_close() [function.session-write-close]: Failed to write session data (sqlite). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/cpanel/userhomes/cpanelphpmyadmin/sessions/phpsess.sdb) in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/index.php on line 42Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/index.php:42) in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/index.php on line 99 Now I am unsure what the first two warnings are about but the third one doesn't like the fact that HTML was already printed out. Is this caused by something in my control panel or is it the server itself? I have just recently removed all user's (except one) from all the databases and enabled remote MySQL access. I wouldn't think that would cause a problem unless I removed PHPMyAdmin's user, but I don't think you can do that can you? Any Suggestions? Sparkx
  24. I can't understand your post completely. From what I can understand you are trying to connect to a MySQL database located on Xisto via another website? First I would like to say that you can use HTML, PHP, Java est. with Xisto's sites and simply move your site here (if it is small it shouldn't be a problem). But if that is to much work then you could connect to Xisto's database by going the the CPanel and allowing remote access. If you want to connect to your personal MySQL server and put it on Xisto then you will need to configure your MySQL setup file. There should be a lot of tutorials on how to allow remote access to your MySQL server. This however is not recommended because Xisto's Databases are much more secure then most personal servers.Good Luck,Sparkx
  25.  I have been using the picking tool with setShapeCylinderSegment (this returns infinit results but is capped). It works just fine for me (in terms of what it does) and it wasn't until just recently I noticed that it has been causing my program to spike the memory. I have looked through Google to see the problem and apparently it is caused a memory leak. I have tried to solve it by simply setting all the variables to null after they are used but this doesn't help. Is there something I can do to or a free software I can use to find the exact variable that is causing this problem and a way to fix it. Here is the exception I received: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space at com.sun.j3d.utils.picking.PickResult.intersect(Unknown Source) at com.sun.j3d.utils.picking.PickResult.generateIntersections(Unknown Source) at com.sun.j3d.utils.picking.PickResult.numIntersections(Unknown Source) at com.sun.j3d.utils.picking.PickTool.pickGeomAllSortedIntersect(Unknown Source) at com.sun.j3d.utils.picking.PickTool.pickGeomClosestIntersect(Unknown Source) at com.sun.j3d.utils.picking.PickTool.pickClosest(Unknown Source) at KeyNavigatorApp.getLandHeight(KeyNavigatorApp.java:613) at KeyNavigatorApp.UpdateKeyPressed(KeyNavigatorApp.java:1243) at KeyNavigatorApp$6.actionPerformed(KeyNavigatorApp.java:1117) at javax.swing.Timer.fireActionPerformed(Timer.java:271) at javax.swing.Timer$DoPostEvent.run(Timer.java:201) at java.awt.event.InvocationEvent.dispatch(InvocationEvent.java:209) at java.awt.EventQueue.dispatchEvent(EventQueue.java:597) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpOneEventForFilters(EventDispatchThread.java:273) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForFilter(EventDispatchThread.java:183) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForHierarchy(EventDispatchThread.java:173) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(EventDispatchThread.java:168) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(EventDispatchThread.java:160) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(EventDispatchThread.java:121)Thanks in advanced, Sparkx
