  1. google how to make a dos file in notepad then google how to make an admin acount using dos, then you would be an admin on the system to bypass whatever you want but becareful because some kid got expelled for doing it and you didn't hear it from me
  2. I have a copy of vista home premium, i have put it on one of my computers however my other computer has only 64 mb of ram with vista hp requires 128, will vista still legaly run on my computer or will it fail to install 2.0 ghz prossessor 1 gb of ram 60 gb hdd 64 mb ram
  3. a sound card is only nessissary if yu wish to have sound, if you are a gamer is is recomended depending on what game you play as it is required to hear some commands but for general email ect you don't need it but it is nice
  4. I would guess that it is a power suply issue, also check if it feels real hot, that could be a sign of over heating but otherwise maybe a new one would help lots???? possibly.... other than that you can alwaysd have your computer looked at by a pro, I had mine fixed when the fan inside the power supply fan stopped spinning causing it to shut down for a few hours until it cooled off inside......
  5. I have firefox 3 and have also herd that it has bugs and isn't so secure but I find that there is no difference that you can tell while generaly using it
  6. I formerly decided to try ubuntu which is part of the linux tree as I understand, I liked the look and feel ect, it was good and simple without the buggs of windows but I discovered that none of my windows programs and drivers worked with ubuntu linux so is it possible to make the majority of windows stuff work or do we have to use other programs to make it go?
  7. I have had both norton and mcafee and they are with no dout in my mind the best anti virus systems on the market, the only soul little reason that keeps me from finding them as equal is that mcafee needs to restart the computer way more often and norton has more options as far as turning stuff on and off and function options.
  8. the only problem with vista that I had was that it yes sometimes does have more problems with applications not responding and things being slower, other than that I to was impressed with vista.
  9. my fave must be xp, it is fast and simple without hogging memory and vista sucks in all ways, alot of people now like win 98 se because it requires so little that on a tanked computer with multiple ghz and a few gigs of ram it runs like super fast and you don't realy have to wate fore anything to load like you do with xp and vista, you also forgot windows me which was right before 2000, it is like the sucky version of 2000, it was on for like all of a year because it must be the worst windows ever, it was so bad that they hurryed up with 2000 because it just had so many issues.
  10. it depends on the computer and what you as a person need it for, you can get more for your money with a desktop and every single part is easily upgradible at a way lower upgrade cost of a laptop and they are way more powerful but it is very important as to what you wish to do, if you are a gamer than you want a desktop, if you travel alot or have a cottage or your work requires moving alot i would recomend a laptop for the portibility and battery functions
  11. Linux is a great operating system but because there are so many kinds linux itself could likely not be dominant but a version of it could if they made it more friendly for your adverage home user with making it simple to do things like install new divices and software pluss it would take a long time to became dominant because the software and hardware markets are mostly baised around only windows and mac which many users know and trust to great extent so unless apple and microsoft file for som meraculous bancrupsy or screw up real bad it is unlikely that linux will be dominant very soon
  12. i use netowrk magic the program from pure networks http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ it is an easy way to set up a home network that can share files between all your computers by simply putting the program on the computer, it is like networking for dummys and i found it works great
  13. a bit on building the actual computer is always good, I have build a few.... tha hard part is totaly the processor, it needs to match the motherboard, the assembily is real simple though, your mother board manual is very important for first timers, this shows you in there somewhere how to attach the power switch ecxt wich is a bit different in each motherboard. your powersuply will plug in using the long bar to your motherboad and the smaller ones to cd and hard drive. it is realy simple kind of like plug and play because other than the power button to the motherboard most stuff just plugs in where it fits and more online forums like this are a great place to learn this stuff, thats how I learned most of what i know, by doing and when i was stuck i would google my problem, also if you realy want to build your own computer and you buy all your stuff in a smaller store and you buy ALL of it there they MAY build it for you for free.
  14. I work with computers in my space time and I sometimes build some out of spare parts out of other computers, there are many things that can result in a black screen, 1. one or more of the memory mnoduals may be faulty and if you remove it the computer will reboot 2. your graphics card is shot and the computer is booting but you can't see it 3. some part that you may have added recently was installed incorectly 4. does the computer get realy hot??? my uncles computer got realy hot one day and the prossessor imploaded due to over heating, if so the mother board is shot 5. this happened to one of my computers and it just died, the motherboard was shot + buy a new computer it would be helpful to know how old the computer it, what the name and model is, is it custom, is it a laptop, how much memory it has, physical condition, operating system type ect....
