  1. Microsft has a real problem, unless they start breaking hardware with proprietary drivers no one needs either Vista or Office 2007. I can use XP and 2003 for the forseeable future and never need anything else.
  2. Unless you can use another SMTP host you will have to get your admin to renable you. Most of the time accounts get disabled for spamming. If you were disabled for spamming, then please do not ever use e-mail again. If not, it should be easy enough to explain and get turned back on.
  3. That is hardly proof. Even non Christian historians confirm Jesus' death on the cross (Josephus).
  4. From here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Comment: Since we don't have the source code for IE, how would we know if it is better or worse? It certainly hasn't been out as long. I will continue to use Firefox.
  5. It is amazing that less than 2 million people can affect the other 6 billion of us so much. There are no easy answers in the Middle East. Depending on your point of view, both sides are right, or both sides are wrong. The Israeli's have a right to defend their homeland. The Palestinians have a right to take their homeland back by whatever means necessary. It is unfortunate that these happen to be the same piece of property.
  6. I hope he washes his hands before typing on that again.
  7. If you are considering your friend as a candidate for the role of new boyfriend, you apparently don't like your old one well enough to keep them. Being alone is better than jerking someone around just so you have a boyfriend. It will also look better if you end your relationship with your existing boyfriend, wait a little while, and then see if your friend is up for a more serieous relationship.
  8. World of Warcraft is great but it is very time consuming.Unreal Tournament 2004 is a great FPS that is perfect for a quick pickup game and adrenaline rush.
  9. I play multiple characters as alliance on Gurubashi and I have found a few tips helpful:1. To make gold, get 2 gathering professions. Skinning and mining, Herbalism and Skinning etc. You spend more money than you make with crafting professions. There are very few player made items that are worth anything (besides enchants)2. If you are questing, kill everything you see that you can. It will make getting to 60 that much faster.3. Go to the world of warcraft forums to look up good talent tree builds for your classes. They are usually better than guessing unless you have taken the time to do the math and really figure out what it is you want based on your play style. That is pretty much it. I help run a guild, Koopa Trooaps, or Gurubashi. If you see me online, give me a shout.
  10. Any alliance on Gurubashi looking for an end game guild look for me in Koopa Troopas.
  11. I have found spybot and ewido to be effective as well.
  12. Without destroying the books, your only option is to lay them face down on a scanner. If you buy a 2nd copy you can use a sheet feeder and speed up the process 1000 fold. This is not an option for rare or expensive volumes however.
  13. Ever want to learn linux but you didn't have a second machine to run it on? You can make a virtual machine that boots from a virtual CD-ROM image and do this in less than 5 minutes. Here is a great one to start with, it only takes up 50 MB on your machine: Main Page: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/index.html Here is a quickstart guide for how to : 1. Download a DSL image that uses QEMU (from here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ) If you have a slow download speed, this will take you longer than the previously mentioned 5 minutes... 2. Unzip the file to a directory on your hard drive 3. double click on the file named dsl-windows.bat 4. You should see a window where linux starts up in its own virtual machine. Viola, a second computer running a completely different operating system! Need to know what you are doing in Linux? Take a quick Linux Tutorial: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  14. It comes down to: Games or No Games. If you want to play games, you need Windows. There are some games for linux but the majority of games out there are for Windows (unless you want to play a console). If you don't need to play games, Linux is a great alternative. Windows has slight advantages in other areas:1. Easier to use. You need to know what you are doing with Linux2. Microsoft Office (Necessary for work sometimes)3. Microsoft Exchange (I separate this out from office because shared e-mail calendaring groupware is still immature on Linux.)4. Ease of finding support. All of these advantages can be overcome by knowledgable computer users. The Games advantage cannot.
  15. Try using a super lightweight linux like DamnSmallLinux (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/) You can make a CD that you can boot from and easily use it to get that machine up and running.
  16. All the time. We do it in the US too. There are some videos on Google that are unviewable in the US. It isn't the government in that case, it is a corporation, but still, the free internet is not so free.
  17. Science is a fairly narrow discipline. It is essentially a framework for answering factual questions. From dictionary.com: Unless they can establish some biochemical or genetic mechanism for things like morality I doubt that science will even be able to frame useful questions about it. Science is good at asking questions about factual things and has a rigorous framework for determining whether the answers are true. It is bad at establishing absolutes like "Good' or "Bad" or "Right" or "Wrong" because all assertions in science can be proven false (indeed HAVE to be proven false for progress to exist). As soon as science says "This is absolutely and unequivocally true" and then fails to entertain the idea that it might be wrong, it has crossed over into the domain of Religion (or at least philosophy). At the very least, it has ceased to be science. I should point out that Stem cells are not in fact fetuses. They are merely cells which have been not been pre-imprinted to become a particular kind of cell. It is true that these cells can come from blastocysts as a source, but they can come from cord blood, placentas, and even adult bone marrow. If you spill a petri dish of stem cells you are no more guilty of murder than if you wipe up a drop of blood with a paper towel.
  18. If science begins to lay down a moral framework, it ceases to be science and starts to become religion. Stem Cell research is a good example of where these two world views collide. Jesus didn't say anything to either allow stem cell research or prohibit it. He didn't say anything about landing on the moon or not landing on the moon either. I was pointing out that religion has much more competition today than it did in even our parents generation (even if you are very young, as it appears most of the people on this forum are). It is safe to say that watching porn and receiving communion are mutually exclusive activities. Last year the pornograpy industry did over $10 billion dollars in the US alone. To put that in perspective, total revenue's for non-porn movies were only $3.7 billion. The "Religious Industry" doesn't have to report its earnings per se, but it is in decline in terms of overall giving in most denominations. As religion's income is likely measured in the trillions per year, they certainly have a long way to fall. I didn't make any subjective or judgmental remarks about individuals who go to church and also happen to watch porn. Live and let live as far as I am concerned.
  19. The bible is not a scientific manual and doesn't try to be one. Not only this, the "Theory of Evolution" talks only about differences that may arise within a species, not how a fish might become a man. You can believe in the bible and dinosaurs in organized religion. Robin Williams says so: Notice from truefusion: You must place copied material within the QUOTE bbcode
  20. What I meant to say is that agriculture is a more successful way of producing food and surviving than a nomadic lifestyle. Being more successful leads to greater population densities, and with that comes the inherent need for people to organize themselves hierarchically. Both Religion and Academia are the ultimate expressions of this need as they are essentially institutionalized elitism. As for people becoming less religious, studies have shown that the more intelligent a person is, the less likely they are to be religious. (here is a list of studies going back to the 1920's http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-thinkingchristians.htm ). As societies go, religion has lots of competition in western style civilizations (Internet, TV, Porn). I said that the more free time a person has, the more a person tends towards introspective thought. Religion is introspective thought, but I didn't say that more free time == Religion.
