You can try Passwares password recovery kit. They have tools for recovering passwords of many applications including WinRar. It mainly uses dictionary attack and brute force attack to recover the password. The software can be downloaded from http://www.lostpassword.com/ Best of Luck!!!

I have used norton, pc-cillin and AVG free. Out of these three norton is very resource hungry. Pc-cillin is good but paid. Now i am using AVG free edition for more than a year and i am satisfied with it.It is not so resource hungry daily updates are available on the net.

Is workgroup name for all of your three pc's is same? The ip address should be of same class and workgroup should be same to share files. Also check whether file and printer sharing service is on on the notebook.

hiSymantec is a good one but i think its very resource hungry. Trend-Micro is also a good option and much lighter then symantec.

If both of your laptops have a ethernet card then:1. First connect them with the help of a cross cable .2. Assign them IP addresses of same class manually.3. Check the connection by pinging each others IP Address.4. Make the work group same for both of the laptops.5. Then switch on file sharing on both of the laptops.6. Then share the files you want to share.I think it will work and there should be no problem with wired and wireless access.

How To Hide Your Files In XP hide doc and folders
Abhay replied to harriko's topic in Websites and Web Designing
We can easily set three attributes out of the above four attributes by simply right clicking on any folder or file. They are simply +r :Read Only +a : Archive +h : hidden and the fourth one "+s " is for system file attribute. Any file or folder made hidden with this attribute can be made visible by opening explorer>tools>folder options>view and then by unchecking on the check box 'Hide Protected Operating System Files' and by showing hidden files simultaneously. -

Proxy Server In Linux Free proxy software in linux
Abhay replied to acumentech's topic in Hardware Workshop
well freind for giving internet access to your freinds computer's you dont need anything more. Fedora already have a package for the proxy known as squid.you only have to configure the squid proxy server and then in the web browsers of your freinds you have to configure the port and the ip address of your lan card through which they will access the internet.you can configure the squid manually by reading the "linux how tos" or can use a graphical interface like webmin to configure the proxy.webmin can be used to configure all the other servers of linux also. -
You had not told about your partitions. Firstly if you can empty any of your partiotion then you can go to the windows disk management and delete that partition so that it is shown as a free space. Incase you dont have a empty partition but have enough free space in any one of your partition then first defragment that partition and then you can use partition manager to resize it and can create a new partition from that free space.create the new partition with free space but do not format it. second thing for the linux partitions , nowdays all the linux distributions have a graphical disk managers for example disk druid in redhat's enterprise editions and fedora. If you have free space(unpartitioned space not the free space of some windows(FAT/NTFS)partition) then you can select whether you want to create partitions automatically of manually.I will sugest to partition manually. For Redhat's EL and fedora you can create the following partitions: boot = 100 MB (100 MB is enough for the boot partition) swap = 1024 MB (Double of your Physical memory i.e. RAM) home = 1-2 GB (this will hold your users files) / = 8-10 GB or more (root is the main partitions and it will hold your complete installation files) Your SATA hard drive is not recognised by the linux you had tried to install. It may be due to the reason that earlier kernel doesnt have support for the SATA because SATA is a totally new technology. RED HAT 9 doesnt support it.So you have to get some newer versions that are with the latest 2.6 kernel. Lastly about the distribution, there are many you can use any of them But i will suggest you FEDORA CORE .You can download it from :: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Fedora is a totally free distribution and it is updated regularly. Its release cycle is six months that means its new version is released in every six months and it comes with all the latest packages. Its installation is really very simple and its interface is also very user freindly

Half PC Does Not Support Windows Vista
Abhay replied to marretas's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I had MS Vista Beta 1 DVD and i had installed it on my pc with the following configuration.Intel original 875 MotherboardP-4 3.0 GHz512 MB RAMMSI 5200FX nVIDIA Chipset AGP cardcreative 5.1 soundblaster live sound cardIt had worked fine for me and drivers for both sound and graphics card had installed easily but the memory usage is very high(around 350-400 MB) and i found system a bit slow so i had again shifted to XP. One of my freind had also tried it with Intel Original 865 board with P-4 2.8 GHz and 256 MB RAM and onboard sound and graphics. He had no problem in installation but drivers didnt worked for his pc. -
Its really amazing .I had not seen any of the star wars movie but i liked the stuff. Thanks for sharing it with us.I had never thought that this kind of stuff can also be done in DOS.Hats off to its creators. They had worked really hard to create this one hour movie. Thanks friend for sharing it with us.

well i have got the beta copy and it had worked fine with my hardware but it is very much resource hungry operating system. It normally uses nearby 340 MB -365 MB of system memory all the times. Its minimum requirement is 256 MB and if the system memory is less than min. the it doesn't install at all. Some of my freinds who only have 256 MB RAM have tried to install found it extremely slow on their systems and they have driver issues also.Sound and video drivers had not worked on their systems.

Remote Connection How to remote connect to another computer
Abhay replied to BitShift's topic in Websites and Web Designing
first try to ping the ip add of ur remote server.if ur able to ping it then u can connect to ur remote server through telnet or ssh.i will suggest u ssh.just type ssh <server ip add>.then if all goes well u will be asked for root password of the server.just enter the passwordand u will be on ur servers shell prompt.ssh works on tcp 23 port number.this is for accesing ur server through linux(fedora) pc.from windows u can login through telnet.if u login through telnet then u cant login directly as root.u have to login with some limited user login acount.then u can use su command to switch to the root.in both ssh and telnet u will get a command prompt.i am not sure about whether u can access ur linux machine through remote desktop connection of windows or not.if it works for u then plz let me know. i will try to find out about graphically connecting windows XP with linux.if i find out something i will update u and if u get to know the plz tell me also. -
Questions About Setting Up An Internet Server
Abhay replied to marretas's topic in Computer Networks
for internet purpose the best option will be to make it a linux server.u can use redhat linux.all u have to do for limited internet access to the internet is that u have to configure squid proxy server.u have to use 2 lan cards on the server.one will be connected to the internal n/w and one will be connected to the main internet connection via router.then u have toto the setting for the internet browsers that they can access the the net through proxt.u can sniff the traffic with the packet sniffer like ethereal.u can esealy configure ur linux server with the graphical tool like webmin.and for storing data u have to configure the samba server to share data between windows and linux platform.its really very easy not so difficult. if it helps u then plz let me know -

Hard Drive Freezer Trick have you ever tried it?
Abhay replied to serverph's topic in Hardware Workshop
Here are some drive recovery tricks that have worked for me, in the order that I do them. Try booting thedrive and copying the data off after every step.1. Hold the drive upside down, making gravity change the head geometry ever so slightly. Vertical is alsoanother option.2. Slightly rap the drive with your knuckle, (but nowhere near hard enough to damage the drive).3. Try the drive in another machine, (slight drive voltage change assumed to be the miracle worker here).4. Rap the drive just SLIGHTLY harder than you did above in 2.5. Freeze the hard drive in the freezer for two hours, and place in a plastic zip lock bag to preventcondensation from forming on the drive when you plug it back into the system, (head geometry, electricalresistance lowered, electrical contact points adjusted, etc., assumed to be the miracle here).6. After the drive warms up to room temperature or better, rap it even harder with your knuckle this time.7. Repeat all of above steps on next day, as sometimes I've gotten data off drive simply by trying again.
