Hello, I am having database errors.
They started after yesterdays HDD change.
Its all fine when i refresh site, they not that often but still i get them.
It says "could not connect to database".
And i also received mail from gamma.xisto.com which says:

There has been a problem with the database!This is a notice email to let you know that SMF could not connect to the database, contact your host if this continues.

so i am contacting my host..

please dont tell me that we will lost all of our files! I have made backup but i havent downloaded it to my PC.

OK i solved Fourth problem! Basically i needed to enter ,not ordinary link like themusiconly.info, link with whole bunch of //. I had to include /components/etc....Now it works fine!and SMF forum banner;i cleared code a little bit and after that uploaded pic again and now it works fine!Two more problems to go!

Thanks Jlhaslip for your help! I added "php_flag register_globals off" in .htaccess and now it works perfect! I ll stroke that problem in my post! Thanks again!

Is there any possible solution for the php.ini problem. Maybe if i can create my file called php.ini which will only have function register_globals off?

Hello! We all know that we need to create backups so we can lower the risk of loosing files. Well If you want to know more about Cpanel backup pleas follow this LINK.
This site made me think, where the hell can i found option Home Directory Backup.
please correct me if i am wrong! Complete backup,aka Server Backups, can only be restored by web host provider, in my case, T17. So i got one question, how can i restore my files then?
In my short weblife i have only created backup once and restoring it was pain in the.. well, you now the place...
i had to unzip it o my computer and then manually upload it through FTP and rewrite files. After this "successful" backup, i had files missing and i had to upload them again.
I tried to do this restoring through Cpanel, but it seems to me that in Cpanel i cant rewrite files, or am i wrong?
So please help this newbie to understand one simple thing! HOw to correctly make and restore backups!

Hello! I dont know if this is the right place to open this topic. Probably is because i am hosted! Well i have been avoiding this topic but i am afraid that i cant solve this alone. It`s nothing serious, just few little warnings, errors, fixes..

Where to start?

OK, i have site powered by joomla. I installed a loads of components, mambots etc. which will help me to maintain the site!

I also have SMF forums and i had to bridge them with joomla-smf bridge made by joomlahacks.com

My joomla version is: 1.0.12

My SMF version is: 1.1.2

Joomla-Smf bridge by Joomlahacks is version : 2.0.2

SMF theme: Black Rain made by Crip

 

Here comes the problems!

SECURITY:

First, this is normal when you install joomla, you get warning that you need to set globals emulation off. I did that! But the problem is that i also need to set PHP register_globals OFF! I have been looking for it in all files but i couldn't find part "register_globals" in any php script! Then i got this <<LINK>> which was supposed to help me.

I found out that this PHP option needs to be set in file called "php.ini". Problem; I cant find that file!

They said that this is file from my host provider, so if anyone knows more, please help!

USER REGISTRATION

Second problem is with user registration!

I did set enable user registration i global configuration and option require activation! I get messages from people that they haven't received the activation mail! I don't get it! I have set this options right but users cant activate themselves. I need to manually activate them through back end admin zone.

 

BRIDGE

Third problem is connected probably to bridge!

When i register new user, i get activation link, and after i login SMF shows "newest user: Test". When i delete test from joomla, from administrator zone and go to forum, forum still shows newest user:test! I set the "all rights" in mysql for:

Mysql Joomla Account->Mysql Forum Database

Mysql Forum Account-->Mysql Joomla Database

 

Because i thought this was problem. Actually, both Joomla and SMF are installed on same database because bridge required this.

 

FORUM BUTTONS

Fourth problem is with my forum!

Since Joomla and SMF are connected when you hover on Navigation in SMF you can see /component/option_smf which is normally seen in joomla. This is ok but the problem is that i added extra button in SMF navigation, called "main site" which leads to joomla site. And here comes the problem! I login to the Joomla, go to the forum, and when i click on button MAIN SITE, it returns me back to Joomla but i am no longer login! I want this fixed so i can jump from forums to joomla and vice versa without need of second, third login!(problem solved by MusicOnly)

 

FORUM TEMPLATE: HEADER

Fifth problem is also connected to forum but with its template! As you can see on my forum there is no banner, only small text saying TheMusicOnly. I want to add banner but when i edit style css to show the banner it`s still the same! I thought this is CHMOD problem but it`s not!

 

Finally this is it(i guess )!

Well i dont expect one man to know the answer to all of the problems! Help me with what you can! Any help is welcomed!

First of all i dont think this is great idea. Like BH said no member should be above others. First of all, i guess you wanted to join GFX crew, no one was begging you!And one thing, 7 days for one reporting of spammer? this wont be good.its nice that you have ideas on how to improve this place but this one isn`t that good.

You have probably heard that Xisto has new offer for their members. For a small amount of credits they will give you FREE Domain. How much credits? You need to have 280 but domain will cost you 250 credits! Wow, this is 250 days of inactivity on T17.

Well now we are facing possible problem and I don`t know how is this going to be.

 

The first and probably the only problem: SPAMMERS!

 

Like every other community T17 has problems with spammers and spam. Spammers are trying to get-hosted-quick by copying content from other sites and pasting it to this forum. Of course this isn`t that much of a problem because we have spam patrol and loyal members who will report spammers.

My opinion; on 50 members you get around 2 who will spam.

 

People are spamming this board because of few reasons:

1. They want to get hosted here quick!

2. They want to get more credits quick!

3. They want to promote referral program so they are copy-pasting program info.

 

Like I said this wasn`t big problem until now! I am afraid that we will face a lots of SPAM and nonsense topics like: Which software is better for creating websites!

I bet we have around 200 topics similar to that!

But i think we ll get dozens of members who will try to get their free domain by spamming this boards. as a result we wont be able to track our topics normally without subscription because boards will be full of junk topics.

 

From big and quite place to bigger and louder place? Will this be good for others who dont need or want domain? will we lose some of the members? i hope not!

 

I want you to know that i am not against this great offer and i can only say thanks for everything you did for me and for other members. As we have seen this place just keeps getting better and better. I am also entering this contest and i will try to get my domain, but i wont be spamming boards. Quality, not quantity!

 

What can we do to stop spammers but still keep this offer running?
