  1. I do believe that my account had minus 31 credits when I checked earlier this week, and I knew something would happen when it reached -30 credits, or 30 days of inactivity, I wasn't sure.Anyway, don't bother with it anymore, as I have decided to terminate the hosting account. It will even free server resources and all .Thanks for your help.
  2. Well thanks anyway. What I need now is a confirmation to know if it is possible to recover anything, or if it isn't. Once I get the confirmation, I can (sadly) proceed to the termination of my account...
  3. I don't think I can. I have tried to login some days ago and I couldn't, and I tried right now with every combination I had. I'm pretty sure I haven't forgotten the password but, or I can't really login, or I have really forgotten the password. If that is the case, is there any way of password recovering or resetting? Thanks
  4. Hi,this happens to everyone someday and now it's my turn. I have not been able to be active in the forums for the past few weeks, mainly due to time, and it will eventually get even worse. Besides, I can't just post in every topic pretending to know about the subject in discussion in order to only increase my credits.I believe that I may have to terminate my hosting account (already suspended with > -30 credits), and I just need to be sure if there would be any possibility of recovering the site/files hosted on the server, with the account currently suspended.Thank you.
  5. The way you described Derek is just the same way I feel for a friend of mine too. I can't imagine something like that (or anything) happen to him, so I will feel for your friend as if it were mine. And remember, you're not suffering alone.Rest in peace Derek, we'll come to you some day.
  6. (Typo corrected) Wait, I don't think that we are aware of the situation yet. We're talking about Terabytes of capacity! If 4GB of RAM is more than enough for you (and the ammount currently limited by most motherboards) then imagine what a simple terabyte (1000GB!) would do. Not to talk about the game development industry! Games will have all the available resources to freely run and improve. Of course that at the start, the main objective for this kind of memory will be for enterprise and professional purposes, I suppose. But that's only the memory part! Consumer-level developments are already on the talk, and the first Holographic thing we will get our hands on in first place might be the Holographic Versatile Disks. HVD's, along with it's subsequent home entertainment and industry developments, will result in tremendous audio and video quality for home users and entertainment firms. Just think: one price does never come alone ; you'll probably need some high power equipment to support such high quality, but can't be quite sure about this part since I'm not into electronics. Just my oppinion. To finalize, we sill need to think about the other storage that can possibly adapt this technology as well, such as Hard-Drives. HDD's are currently the 'Highest capacity storage' for our PC's, and if we get our hands on such a thing as (say..) 'Holographic-Drives', we can expect much much more than HVD's will offer.. And let's not forget about all the other devices that have memory too, like cellphones, etc. I think that's enough to think of..
  7. Well if you have the pc power to run source then do it. Otherwise stay with 1.6.If you think the 1.6 gameplay is better that source's, then play 1.6. Otherwise play source. Please don't argue about one being better than the other. Technically, Source was developed to be better than 1.6. I don't know any developer who creates inferior games after the previous one, instead of improving them. Everyone has their oppinion so play what suits you better.
  8. I did a presentation at school some months ago about Holographic-Versatile-Discs (HDV). According to the HDV wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Disc), HDV's have a capacity of 3.9 Terabytes (3900 Gb) and even much much more, counting with the double layer/side versions of HVD's. I can't confirm the veracity of this but there are other official sources from where you can get more precise information. HowStuffWorks also has information on HDV here. By the way, while I was searching about the subject I also found an article named "Holographic Memory" (here) that could store terabytes of information EDIT: Corrected some words ('HDV' to 'HVD', for Holographic Versatile Disc) Thanks Cerebral Stasis
  9. Well cd-roms will be practically dead by that time. Dvds will take the place of cds and blu-ray or/and hd-dvds will become the new storage media standard.By the way, it's impressive how floppy disks are still vital to our computer in certain situations, since it's the most reliable way to recover boot/startup/disk/cd problems, or when we cannot use the cd/dvd drives..
  10. I have never seen such a funny machinima production as Red vs Blue, and even its existence was unknown to me. Those who play(ed) Halo are going to find these episodes very hilarious since many of them take place at familiar places for Halo gamers.Good stuff, recommended to all. And it should be broadcasted on tv in prime time
  11. For those who don't want to bother themselves thinking too much about other universes or paralell universes, duoverses or triverses, or do not believe in them, just wait untill you die. Then ask yourself again in which universe are you . No way to contradict that. There is just no possible proof to prove what happens to "you" when you die.^One of the perspectives that kills me.
  12. Well, then I can give my particular oppinion about that. Since I'm using Windows Vista at the moment, all I can say is that I don't notice any major differences in terms of stability and/or performance when using the internet. There could be some minor details that I can't compare with precision, but overall, I don't notice any meaningful difference between XP and Vista. Of course the browser and system settings can have an impact on internet stability, but that's not the case.
  13. One question, do you want to know exactly about internet performance or creating internet based things?
  14. How much memory is it consuming btw? Maybe a NETWORK SERVICE svchost.exe process consumes more memory when there is activity related to network.Right now, the highest memory consuming svchost.exe that I have running in my system is one running under the UserName SERVICE and it's consuming roughly 38MB.
  15. Yeah thats happened to me too. All this stuff is crazy. Killing yourself in a dream, that is also crazy, I wonder what would happen to you if you killed yourself, would you wake up? Or live in the dream like a ghost or something?I can say something to you about that. In one of the dreams I had past week (not a really a lucid one, and sorry for the strange example, but it was what I could get) I was fighting with some woman and trying to kill her (well, think of this as dreaming after playing a game). I was pretty aware of my actions to try to kill her, but she somehow managed to stick something into neck (ouch!) and then I began to feel like I was.. well, dying, and the dream began to slowly fade away to reality, where I slowly woke up with this strange feeling on my neck . That was a pretty screwed up dream, but I must have been so aware in that dream that I actually felt almost like real pain. I'm almost sure you can't continue any dream if you die (in it) and if it is a dream where you know that you are dying. If you're randomly dreaming about abstract things that don't make any sense then that is not the case. Anyway, the feeling of the transition of the dream life to the real life through a death is quite indescribable. I don't want to imagine if that happens too if we die in real life, and slowly transition to the "surreal life", like it happens with real life dreams. Phew, forget about it! That's another department (paranormal)
  16. Good topic. It also disturbs me 'being shy' as an excuse not to do something.I liked the idea of following some particular role model. It's another perspective. If someone believes their model is cool enough to behave like them (sort of), they have a good starting point, although that model should be a positive encouragement, rather than a negative one, like my friend is following some rapper, and now he thinks he's a 'gangsta' (at least he isn't the same shy guy anymore), oh well..By the way, maybe shy people are too shy to even post a question here?People, don't be shy! If you're very shy then at least give it a shot here to see if you can get a starting point to something. Un-shy yourselves!Good luck with the questions.
  17. For those who don't know yet, Valve is releasing Half-Life 2: Episode Two by the 4th Trimester of 2006 and with it comes Team Fortress 2 and Portal. If the price for Episode Two is the same as for Episode One ($20) then it will be worth those $20 (which unfortunately wasn't the case with EP1). As you know Prey introduced us the 'portal' gameplay concept, and now Valve is 'taking' that concept and creating a whole new game based on it, with some cool improvements. Portal is a kind of puzzle action game built under the Source engine that will permit us to use portals to solve the numerous complex levels that we will have to complete. The new thing here is that we will be able to create these portals 'on the fly' with a 'Portal gun' and we can create them on any wall, floor or ceiling to be able to reach our objective. If that sounds too simple, keep in mind that there are numerous challenge levels, where we have to think and, at the same time, keep the fast-paced gamestyle of the game (which include turrets, traps, moving walls, etc), while other levels will require us to manipulate objects through portals and move them around to be able to achieve our objective. Well, to resume it, if you haven't seen it already, check the Portal trailer here, and give your oppinion. (If you only watch the first 24 seconds, you will get the wrong idea of the game . Try to watch it all before giving your oppinion)
  18. svchost.exe is the most common disguise for viruses or other malicious programs, since users usually have several svchost.exe's running in their system. The least you could do if you (or anybody else) suspect of strange behaviour related to this process is checking under which User Name they are running. "SYSTEM", "LOCAL SERVICE" and "NETWORK SERVICE" are acceptable and regular User Names for svchost.exe. If you have one svchost.exe running under "YOURUSERNAME" (started by you) then it's more likely a reason for you to be worried, unless you had really started a svchost.exe by your own.Just a little more info. RegardsPS (just a side note): I currently have 14 svchost.exe's running in my system (Vista 5384) (including hidden processes) and none of them is using any CPU at all. In XP I had less than half.. must be normal.
  19. Interesting topic. I had at least two of them, but the sad thing was that whenever I knew I was having a one, the time passed a lot faster. I can still remember one of those dreams where I remember saying "Omg I'm in a lucid dream!", and as soon as I was aware of that, I tried to do as many things as I could while in the dream, until it finally started to fade away to reality. Very strange. I could even feel the force that I was making in my eyes to keep them shut and keep mysef in the dream, but eventually I woke up.Be careful though, if you take this too much seriously, and I mean TOO much, you could end up with some crazyness or madness crysis, and you would want to sleep all the time only to go to the 'dream world' and eventually you would forget about the Real world. But of course, that's an extreme situation.Oh and by the way when you have the chance try to kill yourself in your dream to see how it feels like Good luck.
  20. Well, there is one thing about hair that I have discovered by myself and I'm certainly not going to forget. Hair burns! I know this may seem logical due to its chemical composition, or maybe many of you didn't know, but it's something that you normally wouldn't do for the sake of experimenting.NEVER try to light a lighter near to your hear. But why would you want to do that? you ask yourself. Well, in my case, I stupidly wanted to know how was the sound of the lighter when lightened up close to the ear, and the only sound I heard was the sound of a flamethrower. After that the right side of my hair was smelling like a barbecue!Never underestimate the power of your hair. Someday it can kill you! By the way, nice advices
  21. Take my words, people will be way more worried about other things than robots. Robots will not be our end, People will. Or did you all already forget what our planet is evolving to? because of humans. And I'm talking about our most important current global issue that is global warming, among other political and governamental conflicts, so believe me, don't worry about robots right now. They will not be our end. (At least not my end)But anyway, relating to the topic, all I can say is that they cannot ever possibly be smarter than humans (take a computer for example, it can calculate the pi number to an incredible extent, but that does not make it smarter), but they can indeed harm us, but for that we must let them do so. Many people have died due to 'electronic' accidents, like putting their hand where they souldn't and getting electrocuted (weird example but I can't think of anything else right now) so just wait to see what will happen.
  22. I'm not a smoker, even though I already smoked, and I (like most of the people) too hate it when people smoke aroud me. I don't like the smell of the smoke, among other things.I see negative aspects and positive aspects. Even that most people think smoking has no positive aspects, they are totally right, because the positive aspects of smoking should not be called "advantages", because they are not, and are just 'positive' for a certain group of people that eventuallyy enjoyed it, or enjoys it.Of course you all know about the negative aspects/disadvantages of smoking, and I'm not going to talk about that. The main reason for people to smoke, is that they became addicted, and they don't feel the same 'pleasure' they used to feel the first days they started smoking.Other advice that I must give to you, is that neverminding all that everyone usually says about "smoking is bad", "I can't stand for the smell", "it's very unhealthy", etc, for some of you, that oppinion could change from one day to another, and believe me that I know what I'm talking about. Even I used to say "That could not ever possibly happen to me", and for my surprise, it happened, because there are certain things that happen in our life that hit us so hard, that we forget about everything else for a moment, and we even do things we wouldn't imagine ourselves to do.When (and *if*) this day will come to you, you will understand what I mean, until then, you should be prepared for everything that life could throw at you.
  23. That Portugal vs Holland game was really cool. The referee managed to get himself a world record by giving out as many yellow and red cards in a game as possible. Even so, Portugal won so it all ended well for the portuguese. The only problem is that Portugal is going to play the other games already with many yellow cards. Then, 2 hours of suffering in the Portugal vs England game, wich too ended well. Now, I can't wait to see the France vs Portugal game, but let the best win!Let me give you an advice, wichever team loses at this phase of the championship, at least you can think that it was one of the 4 best in the world, and that's the spirit everyone should have
  24. You can't make such conclusions based on a BETA version of Windows Vista. As the developers stated, there will be many more improvements, fixes and modifications before Vista goes Final. And they mean MANY more, even because we are still in the middle of 2006. This public Beta version of Vista is basically for the public to see and try the main new functions that Vista will feature, such as the Aero interface, and it is not yet prepared for running all applications, as many of them are incompatible. When Microsoft makes such an important beta version available to the public, it is mainly designed to show us how the operating system behaves and what new features it has, and not for showing us how it is able to make games perform better. In fact, as I'm a Windows Vista Beta 2 user/tester, I can say that I haven't noticed any performance issues at all when playing some games, compared to Windows XP, and I'm a gamer too.And another reason for games not having to actually slow down even if Windows Vista is using twice the ammount of memory Windows XP uses is the fact that games don't use all of our available memory when we play them. So, at least for me, I have 1GB of RAM and if 500 MB are being used, the rest isn't even all used by the game. But if you have less than 1GB then it's more complicated.Anyway, this topic is not a discussion about Windows Vista, and there are many more people that I'm sure that would like to see a solution to the author's problem.
  25. I have the same Windows Vista build as you and the first thing I noticed after I installed it was the high amount of RAM usage. If you run Vista with all 3D/glass/animation effects turned on, you can expect a 400-700 MB of your RAM to be used, leaving you with a little amount of memory for the rest of the applications. For the total amount of RAM you have installed on your system, you would have some trouble running Vista with all the effects on and working at the same time, unless you turn off the effects, or have at least 1GB of RAM (recommended) to be able to work freely and at the same time enjoying the 'eye-candy' of the new Vista environment. But if you are aware of all the RAM-related issues, let's focus on your question. In relation to your graphics card rating, I don't see any solution to bypass that rating and forcing windows to think that it should be a '3'. By the way, have you tried overclocking? Maybe if you overclocke your card the system would considerate some more rating points to your overall graphics rating and you could get a rating of 3. If for some reason you can't overclock your graphics card or you don't know how to do it, then right now I don't see other solution. I heard that all you need to be able to enable the aero interface is a shader model 2.0 and directX9 compatible graphics card, so be sure to check those before you do anything else (assuming you didn't know already).
