  1. Here is a very simple way to maintain many webpages without using a content management system (CMS). One of the advantages to this is you can change templates very easily. Your article would be in a separate file, for an example we'll create a file called my_page_article.php <?$PageTitle = "My Page";$articleDescription = "This is my page";$articleTitle = "All about my page";$articleKeywords = "my page";$articleBody ='<strong>Welcome to my page.<br>This is <a href="http://google.com; target="_blank">Google</a>!</strong>';?>Next, we design a template and enter our variables where we want them. As an example and to save space, here is a very plain template. For our article above we'll name it my_page.php <? include ("article.php"); ?><html><head><title><? echo "$pageTitle"; ?></title><META NAME="description" CONTENT="<? echo "$pageDescription"; ?>"><META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="<? echo "$articleKeywords"; ?>"><META NAME="revisit-after" CONTENT="7 days"><META NAME="robots" CONTENT="index, follow"><META NAME="rating" content="general"><META NAME="distribution" content="global"></head><body><p><? echo $articleTitle; ?></p><p><? echo $articleBody; ?></p></body></html>Such a simple template system as the above can be expanded upon to use mySQL to store all the info instead of the first file listed above. But, for a quick and dirty way of getting a large number of pages up in a short time, this works pretty well. But now you're probably saying, "ok, now I have 100 pages all ready to upload. What about an index page?" No problem! We'll make the index.php like this <? $indexTitle = "My Page Index";$pageDescription = "This is my page index";$pageKeywords = "my page,my index';$articleTitle1 = "My 1st Article";$articleLink2 = "my_article_1.php;$articleDecrip_1 = "Learn all about apples and oranges";$articleTitle2 = "My 2nd Article";$articleLink2 = "my_article_2.php;$articleDecrip_2 = "Learn all about peaches and pears";$articleTitle3 = "My 3rd Article";$articleLink2 = "my_article_3.php;$articleDecrip_2 = "Learn all about rocks and rolls";<html><head><title><? echo "$indexTitle"; ?></title><META NAME="description" CONTENT="<? echo "$pageDescription"; ?>"><META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="<? echo "$pageKeywords"; ?>"><META NAME="revisit-after" CONTENT="7 days"><META NAME="robots" CONTENT="index, follow"><META NAME="rating" content="general"><META NAME="distribution" content="global"></head><body><a href="<? echo $articleLink1 ?>"><? echo $articleTitle1; ?><br><? echo $articleDescription1; ?><br><br><a href="<? echo $articleLink2 ?>"><? echo $articleTitle2; ?><br><? echo $articleDescription2; ?><br><br><a href="<? echo $articleLink3 ?>"><? echo $articleTitle3; ?><br><? echo $articleDescription3; ?><br><br><!-- you can add more pages by doing this --><a href="index.php">1</a> - <a href="index-2.php">2</a> - <a href="index-3.php">3</a></body></html>and there's your template/guideline for making an index page for all your articles.
  2. Thanks for the tip, mayank. I'll have to give the extension a try. And it turns out "pub-null" works.
  3. When testing a web page for ad placement, can you put "pub-null" instead of "pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" and not have to worry about page impressions and/or clicks? Would this work? Or is there something else that you would use?
  4. Even though Panda Antivirus is a good program for protection, I would not recommend it for low to mid-end systems. On my cheap 1.33GHz machine, installing it slowed it down to a crawl and made my work very unproductive. I spend more time waiting for my computer than anything else.
  5. La Reconquista is the reconquering or retaking of the southern section of the United States by Mexico through migratory tactics. The ultimate goal is to reclaim the territory lost by Mexico's signing of the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo at the end of the Mexican-American War. Presently, hundreds of thousands of Mexican illegal aliens (among others) take to protest marches all over our nation for weeks demanding their "rights", claiming we are on their territory, openly proclaiming their continued loyalty to Mexico, ridiculing our laws, committing vicious acts and crimes, and committing disgusting acts with our Flag. What is even worse is we hear Mexican Government Cabinet Secretaries who belong to the Aztlan movement openly proclaim their intention to retake the southwest American States through immigration and, eventually, through force. And we also hear that Mexico is about to decriminalize cocaine, heroine and other drugs. I know there are readers who doubt this is happening. So be it. I wll provide a link to where you can listen to actual speakers relating to this topic. I'd also like to note that these speakers are some of the most powerful and influencial Latino leaders whose alliance is not to the United States. You can listen to these audio clips here. While many Americans turns a blind eye to what is occuring in our nation, an invasion is underway and moving forward in full force.
  6. WindAndWater, you used the word "immigrants" in your post. Because "immigrants" denote a legal bases I will agree with you. But the topic of this thread is illegal aliens who have violated American law by smuggling themselves into this country and now want to protest that they are illegal and want the US to accept them. They are also resorting to "terrorist-like" tactics by halting normal production flow in major metropolitan areas. Immigrants are accepted but illegal border crossings are not. Do you support the violation of American laws for illegal foreigners? You shouldn't support their planned terrorist-like tactics to shut down American cities to intentional bottleneck normal production and cause problems with the American economy. Bilingualism is a good thing for any foreigner entering the US with the intent of citizenship. But I will have to object to making the National Anthem in spanish. That, to me, is crossing the line.
  7. I once heard a theory proposed by an elderly woman. She believes that "aliens" are demons or fallen angels. She has stated that they perform all kinds of perverted experiments on humans for two main reasons. First, they want to corrupt the human race so they cannot be saved. And two, the "aliens" cannot be saved through the blood of Christ so they believe if they can make a hybrid alien/human then they will possess enough of humanity to be saved. The way she exlaied it made a lot of sense and got me thinking. More can be read at Discerning the Times.
  8. Kim, disagreement is the basis for debate. Express your opinion, by all means! I may not agree with your views but I will gladly listen to what you have to say. All of them? Of course not! But I guarantee you that there will be some present that want to. Who? MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha 13) members, for one. They will be present in the boycott. They are even the ones who helped smuggle in the nukes into the United States. Anyway, it is known that Mexico wants Texas and the surrounding area. This has been in the news in the past and is common knowledge among the informed. If you believe the article to be "biased" then you can always try the November 22, 2004 issue of Time magazine or you can try here or here or here or the Homeland Security Report No 156.
  9. this would be assembled into a .COM and not an executable (.EXE). what command line switches are you using? also, which assembler are you using? this should compile under TASM v5 without any problems. just don't leave "EXAMP1.ASM:" in the source code unless you put a semicolon in front of it (.
  10. Immigration is legal but sneaking across the border isn't. Their are laws in this country. Just because they are a "minority" doesn't exempt them from the law. If the US gov't declares all illegal immigrants as suddenly legal, it will set a precedence for other illegals to just walk across our borders. If we allow anyone to cross our borders anytime they want, do you honestly believe this nation will be secure? We might as well allow anyone and everyone to just walk across our borders. Because of a lack of security at the Mexican border we now have approximately 40 small yield nukes waiting for a certain time to destoy this nation. How much worse would it be if we just competely open our borders to anyone who wants to come here. Do you honestly believe that every foreigner, whether legal or not, is benign? We might as well post signs along the borders that say: Welcome To The United States Don't Forget Your Suitcase Nukes Many of the people of foreign nations despise America and it's citizens. We are referred as the Great Satan and there are over a billion people in the world who wants to destroy this country. Wait until the invasion of Iran, it's coming sooner than you think. Everything that is occurring in the world today is planned out. And watch for the impeachment of GWB. There are many state joining in to call for the president to be impeached. There is more going on than people want to believe. And yes, Kim, they are human beings. They do have rights. We are human beings, too, and we have rights. We are required to comply with the law as human beings with rights. We require the government to keep our borders secure and intact to prevent foreign invasions. What makes law-breaking illegal foreigners better than the citizens of this nation. Whatever happened to everyone equal under the law? Reminds me of a book I once read by George Orwell entitled, "Animal Farm." Notice from jlhaslip: the "note" tag is reserved for use by Mods, thanks. Changed to "quote" tags.
  11. But, as I've said, I'm not looking for beautifful(sic) but for search engine friendliness/optimization as well as URL friendly. I'd like to get opinions/input before I end up making a mistake with the wrong CMS.
  12. The transmission of electrical energy without wires is possible and is a reality. The first patent that I'm aware of concerning this topic is US Patent No. 649,621 granted on May 15, 1900 by Nikola Tesla. Another of his patents governing the transmission of electrical current through the media is US Patent No. 787,412 granted on April 18, 1905. During Tesla's experiments in Colorado Springs in 1899-1900 he developed this technology. He was even able to light a bank of bulbs from a great distance wirelessly. While repeating Tesla's experiments on a much smaller scale, I've been able to light a low-voltage incandescent bulb from about 30 feet without wires. You can learn a great deal about wireless transmission of electrical energy at Wikipedia about the Warderclyffe Tower that was designed to both transmit communications as well as electrical power. At the present, the transmission of wireless enery to power communities is being implemented in the village of Grand-Bassin on RĂ©union Island, though it's only about 10kW or so. And, of course, there is a patent on an aircraft that derives its power through wireless power transmission (see US Patent No 4,955,562). In a nutshell, this is how it works: electrical energy is converted to microwave energy, beamed to a remote location, then converted back to electricty. Efficiencies of up to 90% have been achieved through many experiments (mainly Japan and Canada). So, in closing, I guess I will say "yes Virginia, there is wireless power transmission."
  13. When you are poor, it's not being cheap, but sensible. People in the lower income brackets have a hard time making ends meet so they have to do what they can to make cash stretch. Sometimes, shopping at Aldi's or buying clothes at the Salvation Army Store is a very sensible and practical thing for the poor to do. You may not look all that spazzy wearing used clothing, but at least you have something to wear. You may not eat all the best food, but at least you are getting the required nutrients and not going hungry. They only thing that really hurts poor people is trying to maintain the old clunker at these outrageous gas prices and mandatory insurance. Then there are rent and utility bills. When you have 4 mouths to feed and only $300 left to work with (after paying bills, etc) you can't help but to buy the cheapest items you can find, go to yard sales, and hope you make it to that next paycheck.
  14. And if all else fails, try reinstalling ACDSee and try again.
  15. It seems I've encountered a brick wall and haven't found a way to go over/around it. I don't know what CMS I should use to maintain all my pages. I want it to be as search engine friendly/optimized as humanly (or computerly) possible. Also, I have a few hundred pages I'd like to incorporate into the CMS so I won't have to add in each one separately. The pages I want to add into it are mostly HTML with just a little sprinkling of PHP for items like headers, footers, etc. I've looked over quite a few different ones and they all claim SEO/SEF, URL friendly, etc. One that I looked at that seems ok is called SEO-CMS but there is practically no documentation and absolutely no template examples that comes with it. No template at all comes with it! Let's see... there is PHP Nuke, PostNuke, Drupal, Mambo, Joomla, Xoops, Wordpress, Jupiter CMS, Movable Type, OneCMS, ocPortal, RedCMS, ReloadCMS, Subdreamer, SiteWorks Pro, and the list goes on and on. But what would be the best to use?
  16. Teenagers have got to find better things to do than trying to blow up dead dogs with fireworks! This report come out of the Daily Mail (UK paper). What drives people to do such disturbing things? And they say the youth of today are going to run the world of tomorrow? Then we are in for some troubled times...
  17. Where are the quotes? You cut & pasted a large portion of your post from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre-Joseph_Proudhon (about two-thirds down the page). There are rules regarding posts and to intentional not use quotes is considered spam as you are merely trying to rack up credits. Your post should be: as quotes are not counted toward your post.
  18. I've tried every software firewall mentioned in this thread and was not satisfied with any of them. The best protection you can possibly have, period, is to isolate the system and never link up with the net. Obviously, you have to have ports open, else your computer would never be able to communicate with the outside world. No longer do I use a software firewall because a virus/worm can still slip through and corrupt the software. Not so with a hardware firewall. Using a hardware firewall (using NAT) would be the best route to go. Pesonally, I tend to like D-Link.
  19. For those interested in locating proxies (at home, by all means) there is a software tool called Proxyrama that is available. And for the programmer-minded, the source code is also available. From the website: I've played around with it and found quite a number of working proxies but, at this time, I really have no use for it. It's just going to end up burned on a DVD and added to my mounting collection of archived software.
  20. On may 1st, if the National Guard is mobilized to arrest the illegals and ship them back across the border (at least until they get their papers in order) I, for one, will be on the floor rolling around bustin' a gut. Maybe it's all planned so that all the illegals will be gathered together. Would make rounding them all up a lot easier (and cheaper on the tax payer... <censored> IRS!). At any rate, it sounds like a terrorist action to me. Shutting down American cities in protest?!? Peacefully protesting I would not object to but they are conspiring to shut down cities which can have economic repercussions. In my book, that's a terrorist action against the (legal) citizens of the United States. I say arrest them all.
  21. Last year I tried the "get paid to read emails" thingy and came to the conclusion that it does not work. Sure, you may get paid like I did... a whole two cents after wasting a couple of months. IT's not worth the time or effort. It's a lot more feasible earning money with such programs as Adsense though it takes a lot of work to get it rolling, especially if you build up a site one word at a time so it'll have original content. My advice is, don't get suckered into reading emails for cash, you'll be very disappointed.
  22. According to the UN, H5N1, Avian Bird Flu, is spreading rampantly across Africa and Europe. It's onlt a matter of time before it hits the Americas and Australia (the only continents not affected as of yet). You can find out a lot about it from the Associated Press website. From the way it's looking to me, there is no stopping it. It reminds me of many years ago when the first case of HIV was discovered. Like that virus, H5N1 suddenly spung up out of nowhere and is now running rampant. Maybe the UN program for world population reduction is finally being applied in full force.
  23. Has any one seen the news about this yet? It's todays news from Reuters. It seems that Latin Americans are conspiring to shut down major American cities across the nation. It seems they want amnesty for all illegal immigrants and make them legal. It may even stir up a lot more problems than anyone foresees. Is this what America is coming to? Where immigrants can cross our borders illegally and nothing is done about it? Where any country can send an invasion force and they are suddenly declared legal? Do other nations allow illegals to run rampant? There are so many questions that arises.
  24. The only system I have is a laptop but the LCD inverter is out on it. I got it for free from my brother since it's burnt out. Even though it's only a 1.33GHz Celeron with 256MB RAM it's good enough for maintaining websites. Anyway, I was fortunate enough to find a 15" Gateway VX700 moitor sitting in the trash a block from where I reside only a day after I got this laptop (which, by coincidence, is also a Gateway). I took it home, let it dry out, dug up a power cord for it and... voila! It worked! When I turn it on it make a loud noise but I don't seem to be having any trouble with it. It's been difficult to find work in the area I live (dead town) so, in my free time I attempt to make money through Adsense. I started my Adsense campaign on April 19 and using many of the strategies to drive traffic to my sites and so far, as of this moment, I have earned a total of $60.28. I guess it's a good start.
  25. Does anyone know anything about or ever use SEO-CMS? At their website there really isn't much info and absolutely no templates come with the sourceforge download. At least one template would really be beneficial to learn from! I have not been able to figure it out. It looks like a promising CMS but, as I cannot make it work, I cannot be for certain.
