Best Free Forum Software What is it?
FirefoxRocks replied to ScriptMan1405241558's topic in Software
I have tried phpBB and I prefer it over SMF. I liked phpBB2 better than phpBB3 initially, but now I think that both are easy to use once you are acquainted with the administration panel. You can try out many open-source forum software at http://www.opensourcecms.com/. -
https://www.google.ca/search?q=macbook+touc;client=firefox Personally I still prefer Linux and Windows over Mac, but this would be an interesting feature to see as Windows touch-screen computers are usually quite expensive right now.

I checked the link and it seems to return a HTTP code of 200 OK, but there is no content served. It seems as though it had been removed or something.

I still prefer Google Webmaster Tools due to its extensive analysis of the sites, but Live Webmaster Tools isn't bad either. I think that Yahoo! Site Explorer still needs tons of improvement to compare with these two, but I'm going to start using Live Webmaster Tools to see if I can benefit lots out of it.

I use FireFTP if I need to upload things like images and other files, I think it is awesome. I used to use AceFTP but that kept freezing so I switched. I also use the command line ftp command but that doesn't offer drag and drop or other things (it's fast though). For my HTML/CSS/PHP/XML files that I edit in Notepad++, I just use Notepad++'s built-in FTP plugin. On Linux, you can also configure Nautilus (on GNOME) or Konqueror (on KDE) to resemble a graphical FTP explorer that you can drag and drop files in.

SP3 didn't make a noticeable difference on my computer. I have Windows Vista Home Edition and it sees the Windows XP computer just fine (in Windows XP only though, I also have Ubuntu installed, which I can't configure Samba correctly).Ensure that Network Discovery is turned on, set the Network to Private and rename the Unidentified Network to something else.

WebSite Development and Management Tools
FirefoxRocks replied to proxies's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Oh yes, Google Webmaster Tools are extremely helpful. So is MSN Webmaster Tools, but I don't think that Yahoo! Site Explorer is really that advanced. -
These page may help: date_default_timezone_set() and date_timezone_set(). As for setting the time zone, it shouldn't be too hard in PHP.

WebSite Development and Management Tools
FirefoxRocks replied to proxies's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Some additions would be Notepad++ with syntax highlighting, various Firefox/Mozilla addons such as Web Developer and Firebug and also things like the W3C HTML Validator and CSS validator. There are a lot of tools that can assist you in website development. For instance, Dreamweaver has its own site manager/FTP feature. As for free, open-source software, try the tools included with Linux (GDE or KDE apps). -
A better example of this would be: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"><html lang="en"><head><title>A sign-in form (automatic)</title><script type="text/javascript">function signIn() { document.getElementById('logInForm').submit();}</script></head><body onload="signIn();"><form action="theServerSidePage.php" method="post" id="logInForm"><div><input type="submit" value="Sign In"></div></form></body></html>

Free Online Speed Test Post your results here
FirefoxRocks replied to www.jbi.in's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Results: Your service provider: Shaw Cablesystems Location: My ISP servers are in Calgary, Alberta, but I live in northwestern Ontario. Plan details: Shaw High-Speed Internet Upload speed: 447.5 kb/s Download speed: 2.64 mbps Promised: 512 kbps upload / ~5 mbps download during non-peak hours Received: (what does this mean?) Satisfied: Extremely. It is much, much faster than Shaw High-Speed light and great for downloading large Linux distributions. Other than my network cutting off infrequently, it is awesome! -
My first Windows computer was in 1999, Windows 98. It came with a CD to optionally upgrade to 98SE. It was good, but the first thing I did was open up a Command Prompt window and try things in there (like fdisk) :)I don't do a whole lot of gaming, but initially I thought that Windows 98 was really slow, especially at startup. That was because Compaq put tons of software on it like Easy Access Keyboard, Compaq Support, McAfee VirusScan (had like 8 different components to load). The programs were good, and things that I got out of cereal boxes (Scrabble, Boggle, Clue) actually worked. In 2003, 4 years later, I got Windows XP. It was fast and easy to learn. I still had Command Prompt, and the wizards and stuff were quite new. That's when I discovered Firefox and found it to be so much better than Internet Explorer. It had a Pentium 3GHz processor and Task Manager kept things to not become memory hogs so everything was good. Only problem was Office 2000 didn't work, didn't know about OpenOffice.org back then. Now I am running Windows Vista and it is working great! The visual effects are good and networking tools have improved a lot. It is much suitable for new computer users with all the tips and stuff though.I am running Ubuntu and I must say that it is better than Windows in a lot of ways. Except for program compatibility (and yes I have WINE installed). I have tried a Mac and found those to be far too easy to use.So as for Windows versions, I would stick with XP as my favourite. After all, I've only seen Windows 3.1 on some videos and screenshots and stuff, loks interesting.

Wireless Router Wireless Router Networking
FirefoxRocks replied to Mentalsatan's topic in Computer Networks
I also use Network Magic, it came with my D-Link router. I don't like it a lot, but it can sometimes repair the connection in Windows. The adapter doesn't have a problem in Linux though, using ndiswrapper. As for the username and password, the username is usually Admin or Administrator and the password is blank unless otherwise indicated in your router's documentation. -
Copied from W3Schools CSS Intro. Please quote text and also add your own information, opinions or anything relevant if you are copying text from other sources. Personally, I think that CSS does save a lot of work, the more (X)HTML pages you have, the more work it saves if you are applying the same style sheet to all the pages. Styles were added to HTML 4.0 to solve a problem. Yes, they deprecated <font>, <center>, <u>, <s> as well as a few other tags because they could be replaced by CSS. Also, attributes such as align, bgcolor, hspace and vspace were deprecated too. CSS is much more powerful than the deprecated stuff though. Even when applied inline with the style attribute, it can do many more things with a whole lot of properties other than font or text effects. Combined with pseudo-classes and attribute selectors when used in an external (or internal) style sheet and it has plenty of power. CSS stands for Cascading style sheets because as mentioned above, styles will cascade into one. What this means is that some styles will be more important, and will be applied, if you declare them both (or 3 times). If there is a style attribute, it always goes with that. If not, it goes with the one in the internal style sheet. If it isn't there, the one in the external style sheet will be used. There is much to learn about CSS, but it can be a pain to develop if you are aiming for compatibility with Internet Explorer 5.5 or even 6.

Increase Your Knowledge Of Html Language
FirefoxRocks replied to saimius's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I don't think that Dreamweaver specifies external style sheets in a set of pages (site) by default. Even if you reuse the same styles over and over again in multiple pages of the same site, it doesn't know how to create a CSS file. I don't know if you can manually do this via a certain option in its vast, lengthy menus but inline styles aren't exactly the best thing if you reuse styles, in fact CSS was designed to ease designing by applying certain properties to a whole bunch of tags, not just one at a time using style="". -
I tried that, kept failing until I realized you forgot a comma in the first function. Didn't work, a blank image came up. That failed. Well I have to keep trying, so how do I do that? FirefoxRocks

I have downloaded phpThumb and it works correctly right now. I have a problem with implementing this on a project which has LARGE jpegs on it. Here is the error message: phpThumb() v1.7.9-200805132119Source image is too large (3456*2592 = 9.0Mpx, max 5.6Mpx) for GD creation(either install ImageMagick or increase PHP memory_limit to at least 48M). I have come up with 3 solutions but they aren't suitable or are too time-consuming to implement. Increase PHP memory_limit to at least 48M.I can't do this because I do not have access to this and I don't think that the server can handle it. Install ImageMagickAgain I do not have permission to do this and I also don't know how to. Resize every image to 50% of their high-resolution size. This is much too time consuming as there are almost 300 images and even with Microsoft Office Picture Manager, the file operations take a long time. And I would also have to upload all of the new images to the server. Right now I have used CSS dimension properties to squish the images into 200px width table cells, but this isn't a thumbnail and it still takes very long for all the images to display, even with a fast Internet connection (and even on the server itself). Is there a possible way to make PHP thumbnails without modifying server settings?

Don't forget about the Firefox 2 memory leak. Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with "flash" or visually appealing effects. As long as it is kept to reasonable amounts and does not interfere with the function of the software, it's all good. It shouldn't bloat up the software size to a huge amount. An even better option would be to allow people to disable it, or offer enhanced visual effects as an add-on (such as some Firefox extensions like Tab Effect and ColorfulTabs, not to mention the hundreds of themes out there). The design should be appealing but it shouldn't be one of the high priorities for the software maker.

What rendering engine does SpaceTime use? Gecko, Trident, WebKit? I want something secure like Opera. The biggest problem with this browser is the usability. People will need to relearn how to use a browser with this software. It has a lengthy user guide on how to use SpaceTime. And yes, this would also be really slow I think because of its system requirements and its graphical capabilities. Perhaps this technology could be applied to other applications (can't think of one right now), but currently, I don't think this is very suitable for browsers.

Definition of vista: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/vista https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vista I would like to know how to create one from scratch, not by using existing vistas (either from the Internet or by a camera).

Normally, I have AVG installed on both of my Windows computers. However, AVG started deleting every download from every browser for some unknown reason yesterday so I switched to Avira AntiVir Personal. I don't like it because it interferes with my computing session (the nag screen to buy the higher version/updates) by popping up those windows right in the middle of doing something. I think I might try Avast, or switch back to AVG.Avast, Avira and AVG are all given 5 stars on Download.com, but Avast has 4.5 stars as the user rating, while the other ones have only 4. [http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ also used to have Portable ClamWin AV, it was good and all, but I found it to be useless because I didn't need it so I don't use that on my USB drive any more.

According to the site, it doesn't flash the firmware to change your DVD burnder to a DVD DL burner, nor does it improve burning speeds, but it removes the region coding on your DVD player hardware (not from any software though). Whether this is legal or not remains unstated, but mostly likely it is frowned upon if not illegal.

Wiping Out A Hard Drive Most secure method?
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Security issues & Exploits
I decided to throw out the computer (but kept the hard drive and my 64MB of RAM) and donated the monitor to a local organization. I used both RCMP and DoD methods of wiping out the hard drive and right now it is sitting here underneath my new wireless adapter.
