  1. the sort of internet user who listens to an advertisement that says faster is worse because you get things faster... doesn't need a faster internet connection AOL isn't really respected by many serious internet users, it just isn't good (saying that, but you can't get AOL in Australia )
  2. nah, I didn't make it, just saw it and thought it was cool this is what the guy says:
  3. pyramid schemes like this don't work; well they do work but all the money goes to the people who first sign up... you can't pull money from nowhere - someone is losing money: the people signing up late
  4. Zorkaplex - as soon as you change something, it affects something else; if you artificially affected every major storm that came along it would screw something up; there is a reason for the storms occuring, at the very least it is lowering the human population. And the oil slick idea... the amount of oil you would have to use to slow a hurricane down would be immense, and the oil would go everywhere, you would not be able to guarantee that it wouldn't kill wildlife
  5. 404 rofl The link is a swf for a 404 (page not found) error, I thought it was pretty funny and thought I'd share it Notice from BuffaloHELP: Edited as reported.
  6. To stop the hurricanes, you should kill all butterflies. But seriously, if you stopped hurricanes from occuring you would destroy a component of what makes the world continue spinning, worst case scenario - we lose our centrifugal force and go straight into the sun. Humans aren't at the stage yet where they can think through their actions far enough that they can tamper with how the planet runs itself, the stopping of a hurricane - where would the energy that made up the hurricane go? I think it would be suicidal for the human race to tamper with forces that they don't understand; and you only have to look at the hurricanes that have hit to see that we don't understand them at all.
  7. I don't think that these will ever really catch on in the PC market; the HDD that we have now are still being improved upon, and they have a huge head-start. There is, on the high end market, a 1Tb HDD that can transfer data at 3Gb/s. I just don't there are any advantages to getting holographic storage over disk storage.
  8. What are some of the depressing songs that you like My top 5: 1) Blink 182 - I Miss You 2) Boxcar Racer - There Is 3) Postal Service - Nothing Better 4) Vertical Horizon - Everything You Want 5) VNV Nation - Beloved This post has been promoted to an article
  9. Some of the anime I like/seen recently are: Bleach, Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, Full Metal Alchemist; I'll take japanese over american any day (simpsons, south park, family guy, etc just don't compare)Some of the broadcast shows I like are: Lost, Charmed, Buffy: the vampire slayer, mythbusters, Smallville, Andromeda, Firefly; just started watching One Tree Hill as well - not sure I like it yet, only half way through the first season
  10. I would say start the bidding at what you paid for it, it will be popular enough that it should go through the roof in the same way that the xboxs did (xbox and playstation have roughly half the market each)
  11. no, Fnord was conceived in the book "Principia Discordia" and is deliberate misinformation.Probably a very relevant Fnord would be:Suddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction - Fnord
  12. I'm getting 6 seconds pretty constantly, seriously considered reprogramming my keyboard so I could get a better time (place 'a' where 'q' is etc); a rather different way of doing it but its way too much effort for something where you can just trick the program anyway
  13. They release the templates in .psd (photoshop format) and .ai (illustrator format). I don't think mine is top the list material, but it definetly amuses me, mainly cause it looks enough like me B)I think they've only just started doing it, project was started Nov 2nd, so 20 days ago; and it would of taken it a few days to pick up as well.
  14. Assembled all the way.I've built my computer up from a p2 and its more powerful than any branded computer out there (yes I can say that absolutely, just because of my hdd space ).Norton is an antivirus... hijackthis is a diagnostic tool (as far as I've heard anyway); and there are opensource/freeware antivirus programs out there that are definetly at least as efficient as Norton.Who'd want an onboard graphics card, any higher end branded computer has its own standalone graphics card; just as any lower end assembled computer could have an onboard graphics card (its quite a bit cheaper)
  15. I like a couple of his songs, and absolutely can't stand some others; if you like wierd al, I might suggest you get some songs from Tripod - slightly different but they are still close to the same humor as wierd al; in particular 'Tripod - Oasis Medley' they mash up and parodise some Oasis songs live on the radio, some good stuff
  16. Eggheadz is a deviantart project, you get a template (a little guy with arms and legs and an 'egg'head) which you then mod and submit. I thought it was a rather cool idea; you can see some of the Eggheadz at: Eggheadz Gallery, the main page at Eggheadz and my personal Egghead guy at Chameleons.
  17. I've been hosted for 20mins No problems to speak of, except that the place is a little big (not really a bad thing, just overwhelming) and I don't expect to come accross any that can't be solved.
  18. what do you say if you don't know if they're older than you or not?Or do you just be diplomatic - if its a girl say she is younger than you..and my addition to the list:ouy evol I <-- (Satans language, simply reversed writing)
  19. People saying they're glad that people here aren't as mean as the people on that forum... I'm glad we don't have people as intelligent as the original poster here; might seem harsh, but this definetly rivals the one where someone rang tech support because the power to the building went off and they couldn't figure out why the computer wasn't working"You'll never make anything foolproof because fools are just so ingenious"
  20. not sure about your problem, but as for a tool to load javascript into Edit Plus seems to work well, text editor that has an output window and debugger
  21. setcookie("auth","1",0,"/","yourdomain.com",0);"auth" = name of cookie "1" = value of cookie 0 = expiration of cookie.. <-- I don't work much with cookies but perhaps if you set that to time()+3600 (expire in 6 hours time) it might work?
  22. not 100% sure if this is just a preference thing or if it actually makes a difference, but the line "if((!$_POST[username]) || (!$_POST[password]))" looks wrong, it doesn't have a validator (if value <validator> check); try using if (isset($_POST['username'])==0 || isset($_POST['password'])==0) {
  23. if any of you went to the link, the full test is a little bizzare in what it shows about you (I think it came out truthfully) My answers (only put their meaning so as to not bias other people): 1) you fall in love quickly and easily. 2) you give everything in a relationship 3) you are a more direct person and like to work out problems immediately 4) you like to see him/her a lot 5) you love the person as the way s/he is 6) you will tend to stay in love for a long time I feel as though this represents me quite well (unfortunately doomed to failure, easy to fall in love and hard to fall out B)) I'd also like to point out that the original of this thing is found at http://lovefatedestiny.com/LoveTest.htm
  24. Qenya: Tye-mel?Qenya is one of Tolkiens Elvish languages; this is a rather intriguing thread, perhaps a mod could compile all of these on a list under the original post? Just an idea
