  1. Fedora forever...I have no experience with other distributions and now I don't want to have. Fedora gives everything I need for my work and hobbies. Soon I'll also install it on my notebook - once they agree to sell it without the operating system...I don't feel like paying 0.2k$ or more for a resource hog OS.
  2. My vote is to WinAmp - some older version which doesn't support videos. Now it turns out to be very heavy for the machine - when you open it it consumes your resources and can bring you to panic. Anyway one great advantage of Winamp are internet radios...thats why I keep it - but I do hesitate between installing some of the older versions that I still keep.
  3. I'll appreciate if you can teach us how to convert real audio file to mp3? Have you got a patch therefore for some of the enterprise applications? Thanks.
  4. Its a great tutorial but I need to read it several times to concieve - why so troublesome when in linux it comes naturally?
  5. Why don't you log in with a shell (for example putty) and chmod from command line? The otherway is to use Total Commander client - there you will have a command line text box (default at the bottom) from where you can execute command provided you have the premission therefore.
  6. I wish to know more about this stuff - not for the purpose of troubling ppl but in order to get more ``space'' for my web.
  7. Total Commander! Its the best FTP client I know...
  8. The work on different hardware architecture... I am not a geek in this here is plenty of inf for you to read: Linux vs. Unix Don't forget that Unix is not a freeware!
  9. First what is your OS? And do you want a gamer PC or you want to process large video files? Everything depends on your budget. I would suggest AMD/Athlon because the productivity/price ratio cannot be beaten by Intel.
  10. Hi,I am running FC5 on my PII computer. But I don't get my sound device working. The PC is somehow hairy - its a compaq pressario and has a built in sound card...and I think thats the culprit. I couldn't resove this issue so far...
  11. I had a similar issue: I changed my HDD to 320 GB on PII computer. Very nice but the bios was able to see only 60 GB. Anyway I agreed to scarifice the remaining 260 GB and try to make a dual boot computer by firstly install windows and then FC5 (before installation I did a partition for windows (with fdisk) primari 5GB and extended 25. Well after installing Windows I installed FC5 but although the grub was showing both OS's my windows was not working. I didn;t dig more in the issue...I just continued using FC5 alone...
  12. I've got something similar with my Fedora 5: but I resolved it by stopping the network daemons and the DNS server...I think my machine was lacking power to maintain the gnome and all the daemons.
  13. I haven't seen ppl speaking fluently more than one language...What means fluent? I have two understandings about the fluency of a language:1. Entering a pub you are able to understand 95 % of the conversaions (in this case what the waiter is asking for and what your neighbour is trying to tell you after an hour of standing)2. Thats also a test - take The Canterbury Tales in the language you wanna prove yourself...I hope I am fluent in one language...though I like to say 3
  14. First - I like the shoutbox a lot...I might use a similar thing instead of starting a fowum on my web site...thats why I'll make it accessible only for registered users. I appreciate the work on formatting - I ain't good in that. To parse the input for mallicious entries ain't a problem. At the end - A NEAT WORK!
  15. While I was trying to connect to my database or even create one using PhP mySQL I was given the followoing error:Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111 inHas somebody encontered a similar report? I have my database created using the cpanel together with a user name and password.I wonder if it is a server issue? What can you do if you have not access to the configuration files?
  16. I still use Opera az my download manager - it has the basic functions - resume being the most important. Its compact and its together with the browser - and its also a FDM. So what you need more than it?It also supports peer to peer connection.
  17. I think the best way is to use your key words and site description. Anyway I think there is a large part probability: Will be there a person or ppl who would eventually be interested in searching your topic at the same time (or within a time span), the more the people the better the chance for your topics to be found as the ``crawler'' would do more efforts. Actually I still cannot find my web site while searching for the included topics...
  18. Has anybody a clue if there is a new star craft coming? I'm still rolling the broodwar and I don't have a heart to remove it. Looking forward for the next one...I've seen some rumours that it may overtake warcraft III
  19. I still work on windows for the sole purpose of gaming and communicating with a web cam...the rest I prefer to work out using linux - I am using a very old P II on 299 MHz.Never had experience with Mac except at work.
  20. Linux is straight forward - and its easy to read and understand - it talks to you in a similar manner as you would communicate with a human...But I think the most important thing is - you do not need restart.Cheers,
  21. Hi,is asta indexed by google? I don't know if I need explicitely to submit my domain name...
