According to most statistics 1024 x 768 definitely is the most used today. I used to sometimes make my pages somewhere less than 1024 pixels wide and more than 800 so it fits fine in 1024 x 768 but people using 800 x 600 don't have to scroll left and right too much. However, 1280 x 1024 is beginning to become the second most used resolution so I would recommend making your webpages to fit perfectly in 1024 x 768.

Best Distro? What is it?
ChrisAF071405241549 replied to Silent Echoes's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I think BSD is definitely faster, more stable, and generally better than Linux but there are some things that I think still make Linux more practical for the desktop and that is why I use it on mine. -
A Screenshot Of The Most Spyware Infected Pc In The World

I don't even want to think about the effects that much spyware would have on my PC. I've seen a lot of computers with at least 1/3rd that much spyware. Windows PC's face an intolerable amount of threats for the less than intermediate user. -

Best Free Anti-virus Program NID UR ADVISE PLS. HELP
ChrisAF071405241549 replied to donitoz's topic in Software
I prefer Antivir. Its low on system resources, simple looking, and I've read repeatedly that it usually preforms the best in performance tests of all the free antivirus programs. Although not every performance test is the same. -
How To Make Windows Xp Faster
ChrisAF071405241549 replied to robert2411's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Your desktop won't look as pretty but using the Windows Classic theme will help you use less resources and make your computer boot faster. -
Frostwire is a free P2P program based on Limewire that has the features of Limewire Pro. http://www.frostwire.com/ µTorrent IMHO is the best torrent client for Windows. http://www.utorrent.com/ Soul Seek is very good for finding music. You can only download from one source but it allows you to download the whole folder that the song is located in which makes it great for downloading whole albums. Great for finding more obscure music too. http://www.slsknet.org/news/ http://nicotine-plus.sourceforge.net/ (linux alternative)

I normally wouldn't recommend using a tweaking program as most of them are very untrustworthy. This one I highly recommend, however. Its very safe and does a few things no other tweaker (to my knowledge) does. Be sure to read the documentation first (in the help menu) though. From the page: "This radical, new tool is one of the best and most powerful Windows XP tweakers ever, having a few tweaks, which are unique to the program. Among them are: ultrafast boot (rearrange boot files); boot folder defragmentation; prefetch folder cleaning; DNS cache optimization; and file allocation size tweak. However, that isn't all. It includes a plethora of other performance tweaks, which will make your Windows installation run faster than ever before, as well as Windows Service configuration. For the first time ever, it allows the user to control a few of the most common performance suckers and annoyances. Version 1.5 has a few major fixes to its code, as well as new tweaks (USB polling and what now)." http://download.cnet.com/TuneXP/3000-2086_4-10290929.html

Animations can be made in GIMP using a plugin called GAP (GIMP Animation Package). -
In my opinion, there is only one rational reason to give a sentence of death. That is murder. Yet I do believe that there are two very rational reasons to oppose the death penalty even in this case. The first reason is that not every criminal convicted is actually guilty. The death penalty for every murder case means that some innocent people will get killed. The second, and some may find this silly, is that it gives the government a right that we ourselves don't have. If you come home and find out your family has been murdered you're not allowed to kill the guy who did it, but government is.

I just posted about it in some other thread. I really feel that in a year or so this might be the ultimate *nix desktop for the average computer user. It still has some bugs though. I'm waiting for vers. 2 to come out before I keep it permanently installed on my PC next to my favorite Linux distro (which changes all the time).

Windows software won't run any better on this then they do with Wine on Linux.

I've tried a lot of n00b distros (Ubuntu, Freespire, Suse, ect) and feel that PCLinuxOS is the slickest, least problematic, and most easy to use and configure. Also, If you would like the option of being able to log in as root, PCLinuxOS lets you do that. I never really find that necessary, however.

Which Operating System Is Better? Its a poll
ChrisAF071405241549 replied to swinkid's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm currently using Linux but Linux isn't the best OS, just the most popular (of the *nix type I mean). BSD performs much better. PC-BSD is a really easy to use desktop OS I've messed around with that has very simple package installation similar to Windows in the form of .pbi files (the equivalent to .exe). The standard FreeBSD ports can still be used to install packages as well. It also has a Linux compatibility layer so you can run all your favorite Linux programs which means you can also have limited support for Windows programs through Wine.
