  1. The html page doesn't really do me much good as all it does is insert the .swf file. It doesn't show how it sends the data to the mail prog. That is in the swf file that I cannot open. What is the error you are getting? Did you CHMOD the file to 755 after putting it in your cgi folder? If you want I could send you a working mailscript. It won't be a flash file, but I could make it operate the was this one is supposed to. I would just need to know what email address you would want the form data sent to.What's more is if you know how to set up a simple html form, you can set up others as well with no changes made to the cgi script.
  2. IMHO pop-up blockers don't do any good. They only mask the real problem which will cause other difficulties down the road. It sounds to me like you've got some adware/spyware on your system. 1st delete all your cache and cookies. 2nd get rid of the adware. The easiest way is to install an adware removal app like spybot or ad-aware. I personally use ad-aware. You can get it here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Run that and delete what it finds. Run it on a regular basis, like when you would normally run a system scan with your antivirus app. Avoid installing apps known to contain adware/spyware like kazaa, weatherbug, plugins for IE like search bars, etc. A personal firewall can really help too. I use IE on a regular basis and never get pop-ups.
  3. ftp to your space and place everything in the public_html folder. Make sure your "starting page" is named index.htmlThat's it!
  4. 1st line (path to perl) should be:#!/usr/bin/perlpath to sendmail should be:$mailprog = "/usr/sbin/sendmail";(At least the above is true for my account.. I assume yours would be the same. It would only be different if our accounts resided on different servers. This info can be found in your cpanel).Make sure $recipient = your email addressmake sure the file is chmodded to 755 in the cgi bin.Sorry, I cannot open the fla file here. I don't have flash installed on my system. Would you be able to give me a mock-up html form i could i could see?One thing that you could look for is ACTION of the form contains the url of this file, and the method = POST.. like this:<form ACTION="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; method="POST">(mailprog.cgi of course should be replaced by the name of this file). If that doesn't work try method="GET"
  5. You could make a shoutcast radio station. They are really easy to set up.. It's really just a matter of installing a plugin to winamp and then configuring it to your network. You just have to choose whether you're going to host it or whether someone else is (you wouldn't be able to broadcast the stream from here). Be warned though.. Depending on the number of consecutive listeners and the quality of the stream you plan on.. a web cast can be EXTREMELY bandwidth intensive. Even the best residential cable/dsl account would only give you a MAXIMUM of 20 consecutive listeners @ about 56kbps (1mbps upload). More info here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  6. I may be of some assistance... what is the script and the problem you're having? (Be as detailed as possible).
  7. Well, I feel like a bit of an idiot. For some reason one of my scripts started working today. I didn't do anything on my own, so far as I can tell, although my cgi-bin was chmodded to 755, as was that script. I don't know if anyone did that on an admin side, or whether I did it during some experimentation, but it gave me the hint to solve the problem. I chmodded a few more to 755 that made sense to me, as well as a directory containing some .pl files, and presto! So If anyone did that I thank you! All my scripts are now working fine!
  8. I've made all the changes that should be secessary for my cgi scripts to runpath to perl, path to sendmail, paths within the scripts but I keep getting internal server errors. also chmoded everything to 777 for now just in case. One of the scripts was a form mail, so I decided to try one of the scripts from the control panel here:Preinstalled Scripts / CGI CenterI clicked on cgiemail and got the same internal server error.I also get the same error from just trying to open a txt file or a html file from the cgi-bin.Is there something I have to enable to activate the cgi-bin? not sure what else to think...
  9. Well everyone else here seems to be hosest in their replies, so I will be too.Illegally. From IRC channels or bit torrents. (these options seem the safest). Now for why:DRM technology. Most CDs include some sort program that will install on your pc immediately upon inserting it. Usually this will mean that you cannot copy the tracks off of it, or if you do those tracks cannot be copied again, or burned or played accross a network. And since it will be a service that runs on startup, it will consume some of your resources as well. And who really knows what else it will do?All my CD collection has been converted to mp3 format and resides on a PC that isn't really used for much except storage and experimentation. We're talking about 10 GBs worth of mp3s that were only created from CDs that I bought and paid for. I find it much more convenient to access my collection this way.So if a new CD has DRM technology on it (it will say on the package) I will not buy it. I will download it.
  10. Sorry but there is no way that story is true. 1st, no one takes hallucinogens then decides to go to sleep. You wouldn't be able to anyway. At least not with ones that strong.2nd, I have a really hard time believing anyone would do that to themselves no matter how high they were unless perhaps they were already predispositioned to self mutilation.3rd. There are no details to this story. What were the drugs this guy was taking? What sort of drugs sent him to rehab? This story sound exactly like the "man does acid and jumps off of building" stories they used to tell me when I was a kid. It turned out that none of those stories could be substantiated. I doubt this one could be either.
  11. @Triple XWell, I didn't realize that you only did it once or twice. Even so, I'm glad you're giving some thought to what I've said. I'm not sayong that tobacco is fine; it does more damage to your body than weed and in the long run tobacco will be the drug <yes I said drug> you will regret doing. If all the weed you smoke is like once or twice a year on special occasions, then honestly, whatever man. That won't do you no harm. But don't let it get more than that. Not at 13. I know I keep bringing up your age, and I apologize for that. Again I don't mean to sound like I'm putting you on a lower level than me because of your age. Far from it. But there have been no studies to my knowledge on the affects of marijuana on anyone that is not fully grown. All kinds of things are happening to you in this stage of your life and no one knows what doing recreational drugs will do to a growing/maturing body or mind. Plenty has been researched on adults. You can find the results of this research easily. I researched everything I experimented with before trying so I would know what to expect, and to weigh the risks vs. the experience. Except tobacco. The only one I didn't research, and the only drug I regret trying. It's the only one I became addicted to and the only drug I still take. And sorry to hear about you cuz. Hopefully he will learn and not end up there again (or worse)!
  12. Yup.. I go for Windows because of the compatibility aspect. And I don't worry about viruses and spyware. I have a very good hardware firewall that hasn't allowed anything to "sneak by" and what does come through email or a web pages is immediately quarantined by my antivirus.I don't run a server, so I have no reason to really to run a Unix varient. And Macs? Well, honestly I know very little about Mac's OS's. I do know that I would never consider buying a Mac. You can't upgrade them without overpriced proprietary crap. And they will not let you open a mac at all. You have to pay someone to do the install for you. Why would I want to do that?
  13. Yeah.. Copyrighting script as simple as html it pretty ridiculous. Some Javascript I can understand (I've seen some javascripts with more lines than many perl scripts), but HTML? Really.. what could possibly be done with it at this point that hasn't been done already?
  14. @Triple XI sympathize with your situation. I really do. You say your homeschooled? Cool, man! Everything I've really learned, I've learned on my own too. I've found that people can give you a start, but when it comes to really learning things, you have to do it yourself. I agree 100% BUT... The rest of the "real world" does not see it that way. They do not want to hear what you can do.. they want to hear what you've already done "in the real world" and the real world is not going to give you the chance to prove what you already know what you can do unless you have the papers to prove that you can actually do it. Those papers can only come from some kind of education. It sucks, but that's the way it is.It's great that you can get a job at Polaris (sorry, don't know what that is?) And if you'd be satisfied doing that for your life, well hey.. work at Polaris and be satisfied!.. But at 13, do you really know that that's what you'd be willing to do for 5 times the amount of time you've been alive? And I'm not really talking about smoking tobacco. I'm talking about the weed. I'll level with you. I was a daily toker for a looong time. And it wasn't just weed I was doing. And truthfully I don't regret anything that I've done. I wish I had waited though. I wish I had waited for a time that I wasn't responsible for doing things and getting things done once the workday was over. Cause once you're in the workforce, unless you actually are a lawyer or something (and who wants that?), you don't have homework! The night's yours to do as you please.. noone cares, so long as you show up for work on time and do the work you're paid to do before you leave. But you work 8 hour days, and if you don't like what you're doing, life can be HELL! That's why I say WAIT! Wait till you don't have to worry about what you're gonna be doing with yourself for 50 years. If you can make it to the point where you make enough money so that you don't have to worry about it, and you enjoy what you do on a daily basis, then go nuts! Smoke all the weed you want (after hours, of course)! You deserve it!
  15. Well, my favorite genre is Industrial so the bands I would list as underrated are going to be just that.1. Throbbing Gristle. The first Industrial band. Founder Genesis P. Orridge coined the term.2. Skinny Puppy. Arguably the most influential in the genre. Trent Reznor even said that without Skinny Puppy there would be no NIN.3. NIN. At this point I would say that Trent is underated. He put the scene on the map after all, and was completely ignored after all he has done for the genre.4. The Doors and The Beatles. Okay, they're not exactly in the Industrial scene nor underrated, but in the scene, the are severely underrated! They produced what I would call Industrial before Genesis coined the term. Just listen to Horse Latitudes and Revolution 9 while considering the Industrial scene. You'll see what I mean!
