  1. Well tallkid, I had to use different capital letters so it worked well with the font, but I can always choose a new font if you like. I can also keep the soldier's head inside the border if need be. Just let me know. I wish I could show more for about 1.5 hours of work, but at least I tried EDIT: My apologies for not completely reading the first post...this is a request only thread. Please forgive me, it was an honest mistake.
  2. Awesome review Kardus, thanks! I was going to camp outside of a store in order to get the Wii, but when the parents said it would have to be wrapped up for Christmas, I decided I'd rather just wait and let them get it. Meanwhile, I've been looking for some kind of review from a real customer, not a gaming company employee. Now I have...and I like what you had to say.It seems like Wii Sports would completely disappoint any hardcore sports players, unless they are aware that it was not designed for that type of gaming. It focuses more on skill with the Wiimote - using sports as a way to train. With that in mind, it sounds like a cool game to play right out of the box with the system as you save up money for other games. Thanks again for the review.
  3. That's not a very informative review. I used to play this as well, I only stopped because I played TOO much and ran out of time to do other things. From what I remember, it was an excellent RPG for being COMPLETELY free. It's been a year since I played, but I was thinking about playing it again recently. One of my friends plays all the time, and we are both 17 years old. I don't think it's a "kiddie" game at all. It's fun to take on a quest, and satisfying to those RPG freaks who love to sit there and spend hours doing the same task in order to level up. Nothing 'nuby' about it...in fact, I think I may start playing again today. Please elaborate on your review...why do you hate it? What made you grow out of it?
  4. I think that's quite funny. Changing the color does not fix the problem, nor does it change the error! At the most, I think it would simply scare former windows users into thinking they have a virus...for a couple of seconds until they read the error. It seems to me that recently, our society has been using the color system quite often. The "hot" colors for warnings, and the "cool" colors for assurance. Take George Bush's terror alert system in the US for example. Anyway, I think the RSOD changes absolutely nothing except the initial shock of the client. Way to go Windows!
  5. This is just a suggestion, but I first started programming with Game Maker. It uses drag and drop techniques to get started, and you can insert codes here and there. As you progress and learn more of the language (I taught myself through the manual), you can eventually code your entire game from scratch. I recommend this to someone who doesn't have the time/motivation to go through programming classes, but would like to learn to the basics of programming. Game Maker uses it's own seperate language, GML, which is based off several others. I find it very similar to php, and when I set out to code my own mmorpg (like Kings of Chaos - exactly what saint-michael said) - I have run into very little trouble. Of course, this game is text-based. No animations, just pictures to represent things. Making an entire RPG from scratch with commercial quality takes a very very long time = almost impossible for someone to do alone. However, don't let this intimidate you, I think basic RPG's (like the one I am making) can be created by a single person with adequate experience. If you'd like to know more about Game Maker, here is a link: https://www.yoyogames.com/
  6. Well here's a wikipedia article on it, although it says at the top of page that some content may be invalid. It is still quite an interesting read on the background of wireless energy transmission, and if you have recently seen the movie, "The Prestige," you will understand some of the phenomenon that takes place: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_energy_transfer I think this would be quite spectacular and life-changing. I was started to get excited after reading those first few posts, until I came across Mark420's. If the technology isn't safe enough to prevent people from using in a ways like that, I'd be really worried. Imagine someone shotting sound waves at you that could destroy your organs...thats scary!
  7. I agree with you. I think there is a distinct difference between little-formed stem cells and a human life. The cells would most likely be grown in a controlled lab and will not be developed into a humanlike cow creature. They will be "killed" before they grow into anything one might recognize as a human. Therefore, I think the researches should be granted permission, but with strict guidelines to prevent misuse, as talktime pointed out.
  8. Wow, I followed a link on the bottom of the page and found this: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/astahost.com If I am reading this right, Xisto is about the 48,000th most viewed website in the last 3 months. With the millions upon millions of websites out there, that's pretty good! Xisto is ranked 22,000th, that's even better. I'll have to use alexa more often, it seems like a great tool for web hosting.
  9. I used to use cars like Aka_Bar explained. Tuned-up cars that are made for street racing: streamlined, full of color and decal, shiny rims, a good-looking spoiler, upgraded front/rear/side bumpers, and perhaps even a carbon fiber hood. Those cars look awesome as a desktop background. But about a year ago, I watched a video in school about the race to break the sound barrier and it got me thinking of planes and sonic booms. So after much searching I found a super high quality picture of a jet plane breaking the sound barrier (you can see the cloud of "smoke" around the plane), right over the ocean near the beach. I like it so much it's been my desktop for over a year. So if you ever get bored of cars, try looking for planes - the sleek look of a jet makes any desktop come alive.
  10. A very simple way to get still images is to take a screen shot by pressing the Print Screen button on the keyboard, then opening up MS paint and pasting it. Next, select the general area of where the image is, and go to edit --> cut. Now open up your favorite imaging program, or another instance of MS Paint, paste it, and crop it down to the size you like.Of course, if the image is copyrighted, I don't recommend doing this. It also doesn't get animated .gif's. Thanks ruijie, for the other two ways.
  11. For those of you interested in creating a very nice scenic background for any graphic or web use whatsoever, but do not have the time or equipment to take beautiful pictures, you should check out Terragen. http://planetside.co.uk/ I came across it when I was looking for a background picture to a tetris game I was making. The results are amazing in my opinion, they look like real photos. The process is simple, but the interface is a little complicated; however there are guides out there. - First, generate a random landscape - Second, apply a texture to it - Third, shape the landscape if you'd like - Fourth, set the camera position, angle, etc. - Last, render the image. Try it out, even just for fun if you are bored and have the harddrive space for it. You can create some great looking pictures.
  12. But is 'time' really the fourth dimension? There is a big debate concerning the fourth dimension...is it time or is it a spacial dimension? A 3d object can be represented in a 2d world by drawing two squares and connecting them. Theoretically speaking, we can represent a 4d object by modeling two cubes and connecting them in a similar matter. Thus, the hypercube. Unfortunately you are seeing a 2d representation, but if you can picture that wire framed object in front of you, you would be able to see a 3d representation of 4d object. Therefore, the fourth dimension could quite possibly exist, and it could NOT be time. Back to the topic, I think the most interesting theory of space is that our universe is simply a very large black hole in another universe. That universe could consist of many black holes, all approximately the same size as our universe. That universe could also just be a black hole in another universe, and this could go on forever. That would explain what our universe is expanding into - more space in a different universe much much larger than ours.
  13. When my parents first purchased a new computer in 2004, a 30 day trial of both Norton Antivirus and Internet Security were included (Windows Trial Software ). From that point forward, they have paid to renew Norton every year, for my computer as well. But now, after reading what most of you are saying, I feel like the stereotypical uniformed customer that buys expensive products without researching Thank you for your reviews, I will surely think twice when the Norton renewal time rolls around again. On the other hand, I do also use Adaware, which always finds more than Norton. Several times I've gotten an annoyance on my computer and Norton couldn't remove, yet Adaware could.
  14. Hello all! This is my first post, so I apologize in advance for doing anything a typical "noob" might do. That being said, I have been using Gmail for well over a year and I have never run into problems with it. Unlike most other services, Gmail has the "Gmail Notifier," a wonderful tool. It immediately informs you when a new e-mail has arrived with a tiny semitransparent pop-up in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Even if you are away when the email arrives, you will still be able to see you've got mail the second you come back - the icon in the system tray lights up. Just right click, select "Tell Me Again," and you'll get a brief message telling you the first few words in the e-mail and who sent it. Not only is the notifier an excellent addition, Gmail's spam filters do a great job. I create a user name on many different sites, as I'm sure most of you do, and I periodically warned that the validation email could end up in the spam section. Not with Gmail - real e-mail's never end up as spam. On the flip side, spam messages never show in my inbox. In all the time I've been with Gmail, I cannot recall ever looking at a single spam message unless I actually enter the spam section. So overall, I give Gmail 5 out of 5 stars. With the use of the Notifier and enabling cookies, I am always logged in, and informed immediately of a new e-mail. I don't know what Yahoo mail offers, but it would take more than a lot to convince me to switch from Gmail.
