Your Opinion On An Edited Joomla! Template
doudou replied to pyost's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I really liked your website design. It’s very professional without being boring. The black and white really makes the other colors stand out. Although the test fonts are simple, it emphases the logo font, which is great. The black and white really makes the color photos standout. -
Major Website Mistakes Improve your site
doudou replied to BigmanB's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I would like to add one major mistake when designing a website, although I am not an expert at this subject, I’ve seen this happen too often on a lot of nice websites. Do not in the pursuit of designing a sophisticated and advanced website and loose readability. Being able to read the webpage is the most basic and important component in website design. I’ve come across many websites that seem to forget this. Their text is just either impossible or hard to read. No matter how beautiful your website is or how interesting your content is, if it is unreadable readers normally loose interest fairly fast and leave. -
Creating A Color Combination Guide to color combinations
doudou replied to webguide's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Although I think black and white websites a little boring, I think that too many colors can loose focus. The worst case is that the colors causes loose in readability. There are some website out there that the background color and text color has too little contrast and extremely hard to read. The best color scheme is simple and pleasing and also focuses the viewer on the main focal point. But I would take black and white any day over website that are hard to read or a rainbow of colors. The color scheme also gives the reader some clue to the type of website it is. Normally office business sites are fairly boring and simple. Personal homepages are the opposite. -

Firewalls Anti-virus, Anti-Spyvware and firewalls
doudou replied to jonassen-tjader's topic in Software
Ever since I connected my home computer (many years ago) to the internet, I’ve searched and tried many security softwares, especially the free ones. In the past few year I’ve used three softwares to protect my computer and am very pleased with the results. Firewall – ZoneAlarm: ZoneAlarm let’s me control what program have access to the internet and what program can access my computer. ZoneAlarm is a really great firewall and easy to use. Anti-Virus – AVG: download all updated antivirus files daily. AVG is extremely reliable and best of all easy to use. Spyware – Spy Sweeper: Not only does SpySweeper sweep your computer for any existing spyware, it will also keep them away. But you should still sweep your computer regular to keep your system running fast and smoothly. Best of all these three softwares are free for downloading. You can find them at http://download.cnet.com/windows/. This combination is a great bundle to keep your computer safe and fast. -
I uninstalled and reinstalled XAMPP as you suggested. Unfortunately it did not solve my password problem. I still have the password setup f or MySQL, and although I know what it is, I cannot access it. Anyother suggestions?

If you really want to start from scratch and use a graphic software such as Photoshop. Once you have your graphics, you can then worry about the layout. Dreamware can probably solve the layout problem.

I’ve used Spy Sweeper for a few years now. I works great! In combination with AVG and Zone Alarm, I believe I’m pretty well covered. Just make sure you sweep for spyware once in a while and clean up your temporary files.

Guide To Firefox Extensions Firefox extensions guide
doudou replied to tuning_problem's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I love Firefox extension, and everyone has their favoirte. My is IE Tab, it's great for designing websites, so you can see what your webpage will look like in IE. -
IE 7 beta has tabs? When I tried to install it I couldn’t launch IE at all so I had to uninstall. I was planning on waiting until they’ve fixed all the bugs. Is it as fast as firefox?

Looking For Advice.... Should I Change My Website?
doudou replied to lonebyrd's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I think a beginner’s guide to programming is a great idea. Especially for if it is related to building a website. The learning guide out there are so limited for beginners. I think there are a lot of people out there that could really benefit from this. Although I don’t really understand why you cannot do both. A text game with tutorials on how to accomplish what you did. -
The only Mozilla product I use is Firebox internet browser and it's addons. I switched from Internet Explore a few months ago. So far I love it. Although I've made it my default browser, I still kept internet explore because there are some features that are different. The main reason I like Firebox is it is a lot faster than IE. I also really like the tabs and the vairous add-ons allows me to check my emails.

Thanks! I'll try it tonight! Hopefully things will work this time!

I second Drupal for a free CMS. It has a lot of features, the only downside is you might have to invest a little time learning it.
-
But how do I solve the problem I currently have. Should I uninstall and then reinstall everything?
-
Sounds like PHP is the winner. I will definitely setup Apach/PHP/MySQL on my computer for testing purposes. I think it will be a valuable tool to have. I guess the editors just gives me an advanced notepad to be able to see my tabs easily.

I have successfully installed XAMPP I have ran into some problem installing drupal. I have followed the instruction listed in several sites, since the handbook always confuses me. I must have incorrectly configured the “settings.php” file because I can’t seem to connect. First I tried to connect without any password, just the username ‘root’. But it doesn’t seem to work. Then I opened up the database ‘mysql’ with phpMyAdmin and added the password for user “root”. I also added the my password in cofig file under phpMyAdmin. So now, I cannot access both phpMyAdmin and drupal. What did I do wrong? Thanks

I really just need an basic overview and how to use it effectively
-
The website quoted doesn't seem to be there anymore. Did they move somewhere else? Are there anyother good drupal tutorials out there? Although the handbook on the drupal site is detailed, it can be confusing somethings.

Should I download the lite version or the full version? The Lite version doesn't seem to have a installer.

I got really tired of using notepad to write codes for a drupal theme. It involves both XHTML and PHP codes. I am looking for a good freeware that will help me with these two languages combined, and maybe even MySQL in the future. I found both HTML Kit and PHP Designer. I’ve seen some really good reviews on both of these two products. But I am really unfamiliar with these and wondered which one would suite me better. HTML has a lot of plug-ins, do I have to download something to edit XHTML and PHP codes? It seems that PHP Designer requires downloading XAMPP to create a webserver on my computer. Is this really necessary?
-
I don’t suppose there is any other way of validating my code? I don’t have a server set up on my computer and it’s really too much trouble. I’m afraid to try it on my site because if it doesn’t work, it hard to get it back to my original theme.

I am writing a Drupal theme and I would like to test it out before using it on my website. Is there a way to test it?
