How To Display XX Users Online On Your Site ?
Samya replied to valcarni's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hmmm .... But what you have menioned is something different ... It is actually a Remotely Hosted Script ... Which means that all the Scripts are hosted on their Server and we only link them ... But if u have the support for PHP and MySQL, than I think u should go for a Script on ur own Server ... I am saying this, because it is a quite observable fact that Script hosted on some other Server will make ur website too slow ... This is because, data is first transferred from ur Server and than from their Server as well .... I think that u should go for ur own Script ... -
Answer to ur first Question : Best Software for Web Designing Dreamweaver is probably the best Software for Website Design. Even if you prefer to hand-code your HTML and JavaScript, perhaps especially if you do, Dreamweaver is a tool worth learning. Dreamweaver lets novices apply JavaScript behaviors to create rollovers and other effects, but it also lets JavaScript developers manage and distribute their own libraries of JavaScript behaviors Dreamweaver has numerous time-saving features including File Check In/Check Out, integration with SourceSafe or WebDAV, and Design Notes for Web team collaboration. Furthermore, its Templates, Libraries, and HTML Styles features speed site development. But you're not going to use those features unless Dreamweaver lets you continue working the way you want to work. You demand the ability to use your favorite text editor to hand-code HTML and JavaScript. You won't tolerate a visual tool writing lousy HTML or changing your code. Dreamweaver gives you the best of both worlds. You can use its Design view to work visually and hide the underlying HTML, or you can use its Code view to write HTML and JavaScript by hand. Dreamweaver even offers support for server-side tags, including ASP, JSP, ColdFusion, and PHP. Inshort, I am mentioning several Positive Points of Dreamweaver in a List : most popular web designing software for professionals liquid design, works in the most possible environments with flexible design and clean code. powerful interaction with flash for animation, fireworks for image splitting and pop up navigation Includes server-side technologies allowing you to request information from the user, process it and store data on the web server Create full blown database-driven, dynamic web applications. many extensions available It's not necessary to know HTML at all to use Dreamweaver!! you can switch back and forth between WYSIWYG and HTML, and make changes either way Roundtrip HTML WYSIWYG , multimedia & interactive Apart from this, it supports the following : Javascript Java CSS DHTML XML WML ASP JSP Coldfusion PHP SQL *** All Criticisms and Appreciations are welcome for this Post *** Regards: Samya Khalid

Web Design: Templates Or Start From Scratch? Your opinions
Samya replied to HellFire121's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well, it depends upon the skill level of the developer .... If u are an advanced user and an expert in Web Designing than u should go for ur own Design ... The reason is that with ur own designs u can add any kinda Creativity to ur Website .... U can add any Design, and u can also add any relevant script, satisfying ur needs Templates is no Doubt very easy system, all u have to do is to take the Template and make minor editing ... However, u cannot Modify a Template as per ur Needs. U just have to use it as it is .... Well, I try to use my own Design as far as possible .... hmmm .... Now for CMS .... I cannot add any comment, because, I have not used any Content Management System yet .... I will POST again if I used one in my Xisto Website, once it is made ... *** All Criticisms and Appreciations are welcome *** Regards: Samya Khalid -
Ohhh ... if ur Web Host doesnot have cPanel ... than I think that u can create it using PHP itself .... SQL Query through PHPmyAdmin Just go to PHPmyAdmin and u can create a new Database either my using the GUI Interface or u can insert the MySQL query .. If u want to insert the SQL Query than, I am assuming that u want to make a database named samya. Than here is ur Query : Thats it ... u are done .... Using PHP This is more or less similar to First method ... Use this Code : Keep one thing in mind that before calling for this function, u must have already connected with the Database ... U can can connect with the database using this function : Place ur Databse username and Password into $dbuser and $dbpass The value $dbhost is ur Host. In more than 85% cases it is either : localhost 127.0.0.1 However u may have a different value. Contact ur Hosting Provider for this purpose ..If u know the MySQL server name and port number than u can insert this into $dbhost. For example if the MySQL server name is db2.mydomain.com and the Port number is 3306 (it is also the default port number for MySQL) then you you can modify the above code to : Please note that u must have given the relevant permissions to the user before u can do all these ... Otherwise, u gonna receive the error of Access Denied or No Priveleges **** All Appreciations and Criticisms and Appreciations are welcome **** Regards: Samya Khalid

Ohhhh I have a Question here :Most Free Web Hosts disable some of the php functions ...some of them are phpinfo() and mail() ...So if there is any registered user here who have a Website with Asta Host, please tell me whether Xisto has got these functions enabled or not ?

Ohhhh, very simple ... First of all u need to specify the Database type ... R u talking about MySQL, PostGRE, Access or what ??? Anywayz, I am assuming that u are asking for MySQL : There are many possible solutions for this : First Solution : SQL Query through PHPmyAdmin Just go to PHPmyAdmin and u can create a new Database either my using the GUI Interface or u can insert the MySQL query .. If u want to insert the DQL Query than, I am assuming that u want to make a database named samya. Than here is ur Query : Thats it ... u are done .... Limitations : Keep one thing in mind that, if u want to use this method than u must have the given ALL PRIVELEGES to the user otherwise, u might get an error e.g. NO Priveleges Second Solution : Using PHP This is more or less similar to First method ... For example if the MySQL server name is db2.mydomain.com and the Port number is 3306 (it is also the default port number for MySQL) then you you can modify the above code to : However, this method also has the same limitation ......i.e. u must have given the relevant Priveleges to the user ... Third Solution : Through Administration Still, there are a number of WebHosts who donot allow the creation of Database through phpmyadmin or through any PHP Script ... This is aminly due to safety purposes .... One of these examples in cPanel. In case of cPanel u need to create the database and add its users all in cPanel ..... For this, just open, ur cPanel, and than click : MySQL Databases. After that, add a Database name, and Click Add New Database That's it .... Now u need to add a user to the Database .... Just select a user from the Drop Down Button and click Add User to Database, or otherwise Create a new user and add it to Database ..... I dont think that u will face any problems now ... If u still face any problem, than u can Post further in this topic ... *** All Appreciations and Criticisms about this tutorial are welcome *** Regards: Samya Khalid

hmmmm ... I think that time has changed .... Although Services like Geocities and FreeServers used to be the best Hosting Providers some 6-7 years ago, due to lack of Competition. However, now since a number of new Companies have emerged that is why they have lost their value. They also have not upgraded their services ... I mean, they are still the same, with hell lot of advertisements, slow speeds, less space and yet no Scripting Support Never go for these Services, just use Free Webhost Search tool to find many other better options like : Xisto Atspace Awardspace Infact u will find hell lot of other options ...

Ohhhh, Free-Webhosts is probably the best Search engine for Web Hosting. I have come across many good Services just because of this .... One of them is Xisto Furthermore, it has got the Member reviews, which helps us a lot in deciding whether to go for a specific service or not ..... Regards: Samya Khalid

Who Is Your Favourite Free Host? whats your fav free host?
Samya replied to teartrack_sos's topic in General Discussion
Out of this list, I have only used Geocities and AtSpace. Well Geocities is terrible. I dont recommend anyone to go for that service. Tons of Ads and yet a very slow service. Atspace is quite good, infact very good, as they provide u Hosting without any Ads, and yet they have fast Servers. However, the service is getting slower day by day, due to the excessive user registrations. The only Drawaback is that they do not support any kind of Scripting as PHP or CGI nor do they provide any Databases. So, finally Xisto. hmmmm .... what to say about it ???? Let me think ... If I call it bad, than Moderators might remove me .... Anywayz, since this is my first Posts, so I am still earning Credits, and I have not yet tried Xisto ... so NO COMMENTS After I have tried the service, than I will come back again and post the actual review ..... So for the time being .... The best host is AtSpace Regards: Samya Khalid
