Bittorrent Received $8.75 Million Support
sm0k3ymcl3ud replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
BitTorrent is one of the best new protocols out today but I have to use Azureus and I kave to say it kicks A55, I tried BitComet and it took up too much cpu time and memory even tho it was useful. Azureus is the only one so far that will run on linux I think, it's written in Java and needs the JRE to run, but Sun makes a JRE for Linux so I just installed that.By the way I just installed MandrakeLinux 10.1 Official last night and I have to say it's better than windows, I'm posting off of linux now.But what I think is happening is they 8.5 mil is because a front for the RIAA is going to try and steer them towards the legal road by offering them more money to develop into a legal protocol that they can use to make prepaid P2P. -
Normally when you put your computer into sleep mode or hibernate mode it powers down the CPU, and you need your CPU to process incoming data while you are downloading, so while what everybody else was saying here about setting your computer to stay awake on its own is true, we should also mention that you should not manually put it into sleep or hibernate mode while you are downloading anything because all open TCP connections will be timed out.

I think I am going to build a hand crank thing for my laptop only I am going to make it a big heavy duty one since I have a 2.2GHz with a huge screen and CD burner. That would take a lot of power but I like the idea of being able to crank this box up and plug it in when your battery dies. This way if you are on a road trip and you are using your laptop to let your kids watch movies, you dont have to pull over and plug it in every 5 hours, just give one of the kids a crank and say "you gonna have to work for your entertainment." Another bonus to this is it wears your kids out so they sleep more during the trip and you dont hear "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" LOL

If you go out wardriving then I'm sure you know of plenty of other places you can get free web access from, some may even be faster than your school, why bother getting yourself in trouble, besides you don't want to be tagged as a hacker do you?

Area 51 What do you think it is?
sm0k3ymcl3ud replied to DigitalDingo's topic in Science and Technology
OK sorry, for some reason the thumbnails didnt show up in the post, it worked fine in the preview before I posted, but don't worry the absent image boxes still link to real images that do load, and if you want to see them all in thumbnail order you can check out My Blog and they are right there. Once again I'm sorry about that. -
Area 51 What do you think it is?

Here are some COLOR arial shots of Area 51 for all you SciFi fans to gawk at. I have no idea what area 51 REALLY is but I dont think they left those cargo planes out by accident, I think they want to take our mind away from what is really going on there. Why else would they have two fighter jets on base ready to scramble. Click the images for a larger view. -
lol@the jokeSo far eMule is the best P2P software that I found for downloading big files, given that it may be slow to get started, you never get a corrupt file and I love the feature that lets me manage my up/downloads from my cell phone. BitTorrent may have fast speeds, but so does NNTP and you can find almost anything in newsgroups these days, and what BitTorrent lacks is the interface and functionality that eMule has, mainly because eMule is open source.--------------------Sm0k3y Mcl3uD

Tonight at 6:30pm I along with a bunch of other people will be rallying at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Georgia Ave. in Washington DC to support our troops and their mission in Iraq. The rally will be going on until 9:00pm or 10:00pm and I will have pictures posted by 11:00pm on My Blog along with an accounting of the events. -------------------- Sm0k3y Mcl3uD

Game Glitches: Post All Glitches Here !

In DF1 in some of the concrete buildings if you stand on the third step down from the top on the highest stairway in the building, select your knife and jump up and forward, you will jump through the ceiling and end up on the roof. Excellent sniping position.--------------------Sm0k3y Mcl3uD -
It's not even that hard to fake a fingerprint on some of todays scanners, I know of one scanner that all you have to do is breathe on it to make the last person's fingerprint show up on the glass and the computer will see it, instant access. They havent gotten to the computer speed bridge yet, they are still trying to cross the anti-spoofing bridge, lol. -------------------- Sm0k3y Mcl3uD

WinMX went down on Wed, Sept 21st 2005 at 8:00am and will not be coming back, the RIAA has scared them into retreat from the P2P race. I didn't use WinMX anymore since last year but it is still sad to see them go, I used WinMX right after KaZaA kicked the P2P bucket. But now I hear tell about eDonkey being next and I hope that will never happen, because doesnt eMule run off of the eDonkey network? The president of eDonkey announces to the supreme court last week that he would be "throwing in his towel."I am thinking about trying out MUTE if eDonkey goes down because from what I hear it is supposed to be an untraceable network which the RIAA would need access to all the computers on the network to trace downloads. There are some bugs in it though, like when a lot of people are connected, it's very laggy.Anybody got any ideas on what to do next when the RIAA shuts down all the networks we know of?--------------------Sm0k3y Mcl3uD

Better Cooling AMD 64 3400+
sm0k3ymcl3ud replied to moonwitch1405241479's topic in Hardware Workshop
I would look into getting a Peltier cooler, if you have a high wattage power supply. These things draw a lot of power, but they do a great job when combined with a heatsink and a fan. Basically what it is is two metal plates with a chemical compound in between them sealed with epoxy, and one of the plates is a positive and the other is a negative, when you pass electricity through the compound in the middle one plate gets very cold and the other gets very hot. It basically aids in pulling heat away from the CPU and ensures that your CPU is always kept cool. What you do is using thermal paste, apply the cooling plate directly on top of the cpu and then using more thermal paste, apply the heatsink and fan on top of the cooling plate, then you hook the cooling plate up to the power supply using one of your free power connections and your ready to go. Your CPU should stay about 30 to 40 degrees with this cooling unit in place. Hope this helps. -------------------- Sm0k3y Mcl3uD -
Can You Recommend Any Good MP3 Players? Good MP3 players?
sm0k3ymcl3ud replied to joe91179's topic in Hardware Workshop
I would recommend getting an iRiver 20GB MP3 player, they have 40GB and 60GB but I don't see myself ever using up 20GB even, my collection is only 10GB and thats 5 years of collecting. The iRiver has a FM radio in it too and you can record music from the radio with it, and it has a voice recorder, it also displays JPEG images on its 260k color screen and has a 16 hour rechargable battery life. I have been thinking about buying one myself so here is the link to BestBuy's description of it. iRiver 20GB MP3 Player - Remix Blue -------------------- Sm0k3y Mcl3uD -
If you want support for your PCI modem I would suggest getting Mandrake or Redhat, they supported my softmodem even but it was hell to get working. -------------------- Sm0k3y Mcl3uD

Personally I like Adobe Audition 1.5 the best, its got so many options. Syntrillium, who made Cool Edit, was bought out by Adobe, and now Cool Edit has become Audition.--------------------Sm0k3y Mcl3uD

Okay, I use a Garmin GPS 5 handheld unit, I paid $800 for it at best buy two years ago and it is still as good as ever. It has a full US map built into the device and enhanced maps that I uploaded for the areas surrounding me. I also have a cable that I can use to connect it to the computer and you can use the Garmin MapSource software that came with it to view waypoints, maps, , routes and your current position. I think a handheld unit is a lot better than a USB unit because the government is constantly upgrading their GPS technology. Like for instance, 10 months ago I got about 15 ft. acuracy at best on 3D GPS location. But then I upgraded the firmware in my unit and now whenever I get a lock on satellite 35 (which wasn't there before) I can switch over to 3D Differential GPS location with 7 ft. acuracy at best. So if you are willing to shell out about $500-$800 i suggest you buy a Garmin handheld unit which is the more flexable option. ---------- Sm0k3y Mcl3uD

I have a similar problem with DirectDraw and Windows Media 10, sometimes for no aparent reason it will switch to bicubic resizing when i go into fullscreen playback instead of bilinear, the framerate will be very slow and jerky, maybe 4fps, and the image will be very pixelated. Even after a reboot it would still be there, but then just as suddenly as it happened, it goes away. The only thing I can think of that would be causing your problem is a DirectDraw issue because it sounds similar to this. Also are your display adapter drivers provided by microsoft, or by the manufacturer, that could be the issue too. I had some 3D issues with the microsoft 82815 chipset display adapter drivers, but i downloaded the set from intel and it made a huge difference. ---------- Sm0k3y Mcl3uD
