  1. Since you downloaded the .psd file and it is a template it might've already been sliced. Try opening up the original file (if you got it in a zip, just re-extract it into another directory or rename your modified psd) and go to View > Show > Slices. If there are no slices saved, or if you want to cut it up yourself, click on the Posted Image icon. You should see faint blue lines and the number "01" in the top left corner of your document. You can then right click and go to "Promote to user slice" to make the slice resizable, where you can drag out the dimensions of the slice to whatever size and position you need it to be. You can also right click and go to "Edit Slice Options" to enter the dimensions automatically. Keep slicing until you get all of your sections figured out, then save it as your html page. If you want to do imagemaps or rollovers, go to File > Jump To > ImageReady.

    Good Luck :)

  2. Since I post a lot of tutorials I decided to have the screenshots and examples remotely hosted to preserve space. Of course, I checked out ImageShack first, you know, 'cause it's ImageShack. I thought it was alright and used it for about... 10 minutes. It was taking forever to upload the 8+ pictures I use for each tutorial... and I have about 30 of those. I did a little bit of browsing and found a free image host, PicTiger, that totally blows ImageShack away. The only drawback is the inability to transload images. Aside from that, I love it! Here is a list of PicTiger's features:1. You can upload multiple pictures, up to 10 at a time (no need to register or purchase "upload credits")2. You can add a description AND categorize your uploaded images3. You can create and manage albums, which include a commenting system4. There are advanced uptions for uploading images including Auto-Crop, Fit, Sharpen, Custom Image Size, Custom Thumbnail Size, and Web Optimization.5. THE LOGIN BOX IS ACTUALLY ON THEIR SITE!! You don't need your registration URL everytime you want to login.6. Their site is prettier AND their logo is a tiger. Come on, who would win in a fight between a frog and a tiger? Now compare them to ImageShack and tell me, which service do you think is better?
    Notice from m^e:
Grrrrrrrrrrr... my eyes almost popped out reading that. I'd to remove the bold tags. By the end of it - this is what I looked like: :)

  3. I made this style a long, long time ago for my old hosting site, XS-Host.net and I totally forgot about it until the other day. I always thought it looked pretty cool, so I decided to share it with you :D It kinda looks like something you'd find in the tread of a sneaker, or in a car's floormat, doesn't it? Anywhos, In the style's file download at the bottom of this post you'll also find 2 other color variations (red and dark blue) as well as another version of this style in which the stroke is inside the text rather than outside. It's not as badass as the original, but it's still pretty cool. You can see an example of it in the second half of the image below.

I finally took the advice to use ImageShack for the tutorial pictures, so now there are thumbnails to both the settings images and the "this is what it should look like" images. This style can be used on any color background, but for the tutorial I will be working on a white background with the first variant since itlooks better. Now with that said, create a new image with a size to fit your text. The bigger the font, the better this style looks, but for space's sake I mixed up the font sizes to fit the canvas, but it's mostly a 100px font (my favorite, Tribal Two, of course).

    1. Type your desired text, and try to center it. Now, either you can type your text in any color you want and use the color overlay to change the color of the inside of the text, or you can type your text in your desired color and disable the color overlay.

    2. Now it's time for the effects - We'll start with Bevel and Emboss. Click on the "f" icon on your Layers palette and go to Bevel and Emboss.

  4. I was messing around with my styles the other day and came up with this. I think it kinda has the same look as those stupid little pillows you see at Wal-Mart with "Princess" or "Cute" written on them. But since "Stupid Little 'Princess' Pillow" is too long of a title for a Photoshop style, I call it Satin Pillow. It kinda looks more like silk, but it's my style and I'll call it what I want.

For pictures of how the applied settings should look on your text, click on the settings' image. This style can be used on any color background, but for the tutorial I will be working on a white background, it looks better. Now with that said, create a new image with a size to fit your text. In my case, I'm using a 72px font (https://f'>Allegro BT, or something like that.) so I started with a 450x150 image.

    1. Type your desired text in any color, it doesn't matter because we'll be applying a color overlay, and center it.

  5. I have a program I've been using for a few years called IrfanView, it supports pretty much everything. You can also load your PS filters and apply them to your image in IrfanView. It doesn't use styles or blend modes, and I don't think you can add text, but it's really small and lightweight, so I use it mostly for resizing and making abstract wallpapers with the filters. If you're just looking for something to do the basic crop, resize, color, and filter... You should definately check this out. IrfanView

  6. Today I will be showing you how to make the style "Inedible Orange" that I created for my tutorials site's header. I have included two variations of the style in the .asl file, one for dark backgrounds (v.1) and one for light backgrounds (v.2). I don't have the header finished yet, so here's another example:

For pictures of how the applied settings should look on your text, click on the settings image. This style can be used on any color background, but for the tutorial I will be working on a black background since it is easiest to see. Now with that said, create a new image with a size to fit your text. In my case, I'm using a 95px font (Bastarda) so I started with a 450x150 image.

    1. Type your desired text in any color (but it looks best on #FF9900) and try to center it.

  7. Thanks a bunches :D I wish I had made that font! It's one of my favorites. Another one is "Bastarda," you can find that in my Custom Style #3 tutorial. I'm actually interested in creating my own fonts, especially because I'm so into text effects... but I just haven't had the time. I like the electric variation as well, it's fun to experiment with the different effects it can produce by changing the drop shadow and inner glow. If you come up with some other cool variations, please post them here so I can see :D

  8. Another one of my text styles, "Bi-Polar Attraction" (I suck at naming things :/) Actually, I will be showing you 3 variants on the style: Dark, Light, and Electric. All 3 variants are included in the style download at the bottom of the tutorial. I think the effect really looks better with a larger size font, but that's for you to decide.

Here is an example of the 3 style variants on both black and white backgrounds:

Since there is a limit on the number of images I can post, I have only posted images of the style's settings. For pictures of how the applied settings should look on your text, click on the settings image. Also, I will be working exclusively on a black background with the Dark style variant, since it is easiest to see. Now with that said, create a new image using a white or black background with a size to fit your text. In my case, I'm using a 72px font (Tribal Two) so I started with a 450x150 image.

  9. Thanks for the advice guys :D Though you may already know that I'm working on my tutorials site, so it's just as easy for me to host them myself... I think, anyways.I'm almost done the site! I got sick of messing with CMS's so I just set up phpBB2. I actually put in a mod that inserts an ImageShack hosting box right below the post entry form so users can upload their images and have them hosted (plus get the necessary code) instantly. The only problem is, I also installed a Sudoku mod so when I'm setting up the forum and waiting for stuff to upload, I get side tracked :/

  10. This tutorial will show you how to make the style I created for the header of my website, DM.Net (DreamMare)

  11. I've been waiting patiently for my hosting to go through to post this tutorial... so I hope you like it!

I will be showing you how to make another one of my favorite styles. I call it "OhSoBlue" (real creative, I know)

Here is an example of the style on a half white/half black background:

    Happy Photoshopping!

  12. First of all, the "text" is in fact an image, so you can't increase font size, you'd have to Zoom In. Secondly, they are both screenshots, so you can't navigate the site because they're only pictures.I was having a little difficulty with configuring the display boxes for new content (the orange things that said "Read It") so I've doen away with it completely and am now setting up a CMS to handle the tutorials. Hopefully, everything will be operable by Monday. Thanks for your interest :D

  13. I'm 90% sure the problem occurred somewhere between the rescuers discovering the barracade that the miners made and command center receiving the communication. I don't believe it was the press this time, they were all kept at a 500 ft minimum and could not have heard the message inside the command center personally. They believe it was someone inside the command center who had friends and/or family inside the church waiting for news. Someone from inside the church actually came up to Anderson Cooper to tell him that the 12 of them were dead, the press didn't even know what was going on. There's also the people who say that the CEO of the mne company personally informaed them of their safety.I don't know, but thanks everyone for their interest in my "hometown" (born in Cleveland, OH raised in Baltimore, MD) and you're quite welcome for the updates... since I live in WV it's on almost every single channel here.

  14. I get emails almost hourly that are spam, I've never had anything blocked before. I don't have any mail controls whatsoever (like I said, I'm in like 25 PTR programs so I have to make sure every mail gets through) so this is very weird. I'll try with another, though. Try sending one to rae@dreammare.net or xs_host@hotmail.com, either will do. Sorry about all this, I have no clue why it's not going through :/And about your $1,000 - Do you accept Monopoly money? I can have it wired to you from my Swiss bank account :D

  15. Well that's good news, I think! I can't see the image you posted, though. But did you get it figured out? If the style thing since isn't working for you, just open the .psd and you should see the effects of the style shown on the layer. Then if you have a Styles palette (the little window that lists all the styles you have installed) click on the "new" icon (it's the little square) and it should ask you to name the style. Let me know if you get it, or if you want I can walk you through it on msn, yahoo, or AOL instant messenger :D

  16. I'll admit that around that time I was working on my site and only heard bits and pieces, but I've seen at least 2 or 3 interviews from friends and family members since the press conference who are saying that the CEO of the mine company actually came to the church they were staying in and personally told them that there were 12 survivors. Now I'm hearing that the call came over a speakerphone, and that's the reason for the "miscommunication." All I know for a fact is if it were my father or fiance down there and I was led to believe they were alive for 3 hours when in fact they were dead, I'd be kicking some asses.

This is just to show you how close my dad works to the mine: Map
I just moved here in August, so I'm not entirely familiar with the area (I only get to "come down off the mountain" 2-3 times a month) but the circle around Sago shows the vicinity of the mine, and the circle around Buckhannon is where my dad works. That train track that runs over that road where it says South Buckhannon is right behind the sawmill where he works, he drives a semi over it everyday.

  17. You know, I was just about to post that but I had to restart my computer and I was too busy watching the news to notice that I didn't sign back on the net.

Altough I did not personally know anyone involved (that I know of), my father and fiance do work like 10 minutes away from the mine.

What pisses me off is that they knew 20 minutes after they found the miners at around 11:30pm that there was only one survivor, but they let the families and everyone else think that there were 12 survivors for 3 HOURS before they made the press conference at 3 something. Can you believe that??!!

  18. Has anyone seen that story on the news about the 13 miners trapped underground in Thomasville, WV? It's literally like, 45 minutes from my house in Belington. My parents got stuck in the traffic near there on the way home yesterday from picking up my boyfriend at work, which is about 15 minutes from the mine.It may not seem like a big deal to most people, but this is a place where going to the grocery store is the highlight of the week, so it's pretty crazy to me.But it's not the first time something on the news hit close to home. About 5 or 6 years ago my then boyfriend Mike was working for a heating and air conditioning company and when he was doing a job in Tinsleytown, MD he accidentally bumped into a suitcase in the attic of the house he was working in and when it fell open there were the 50(?) year old remains of a baby inside. He called me at school from the police station and told me to turn the tv on, but wouldn't tell me why... he was too shocked to explain. That was some crazy stuff...

  19. Oh dear, my apologies! I assumed that you had Photohop 7 or higher, how stupid of me *slaps head*I don't have any experience with Elements, I've been a PS7 person for 5 or 6 years. The .asl file is a style (I don't know if you have those in Elements) it's basically a saved preset of blending options (for drop shadow, inner glow, overlays, etc.)If Elements does implement styles, you can't open it directly... You have to save it into the Presets folder (for me it's C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Presets\Styles) Then when you load PS, in your styles window load the "SunBlind's Cyan Glass" style and apply it to your shape.Since you didn't know what the .asl file was, I probably just told you all of that for nothing :DLet me know what kind of blending options you can apply in Elements and I can give you the settings, rather than the file. Or if you look in the PSD, you should be able to see them there.
