  1. Test your games to make sure it's working as you intended, but create a web page for it first. You might want to plan out some design/layout for your webpage and see how it looks. If you applied for web hosting already and get accepted, you can also do the web design live. I usually do it locally for use of editing and no need to constantly re-upload the files.

  2. Topic moved to Web Design and HTML section...Depending on how you want to setup your website, you may also need a webhost. If you get the hosting here at Xisto, you don't need a domain or webhost. If you don't like the sites link here (which will be in the username.astahost.com format), you will need to buy a domain name and use the webhost space here at Xisto. The hosting here will support all the languages you mentioned so that shouldn't be a problem.

  3. Insert your Microsoft Office 2003 CD. Go to Start->Run and type in D:\setup.exe /x pro11n.msi /qb and hit OK. Replace D: with the letter of your CD drive. See if that will uninstall the Office software.

If that won't work either, try the steps mentioned at:

    https://kb.iu.edu/d/ajkk

I wouldn't recommend installing older Office versions on top of this newer one. It will most likely give you an error and abort the installation because it's downgrading the Office software and may have compatibility issues. If you want to install more than one version of Office, you should always install from the oldest version up to the more recent ones <_<

  4. Thanks faulty.lee, that was very informative. Just had a question whether the UPS will use a lot of power because if I do buy it, I will leave it plugged in 24 hours (as it should be used <_<). If it's only charging the battery a trickle at a time, won't that degrade the life of the battery even more? I thought, like most other batteries, that you shouldn't constantly charge it. Sometimes you should fully discharge and then do a full charge to get more life usage out of it.The area I'm in seems to be pretty good. I never (hopefully won't ever) had the power go out on me. I might stick with purchasing another surge protector in that case if it won't damage my equipment. I save frequently so don't mind being knocked off if "disaster" does strike :PBrian, why don't you have a surge protector or UPS for your monitor? They have multiple outlets and I try to use whatever electronics I have on them since they are convenient and also I don't have a lot of outlets in the room :P

  5. So the problem is not booting up, the problem is when it's logging into Windows? How much memory/RAM does this computer have? Have you tried formatting and reinstalling Windows from a clean state? Did you check the motherboard to make sure there are no blown capacitors? Did you try booting from one of those live Linux CDs (like Knoppix - http://knoppix.net/)? See if that's slow to run. If so, it might be the motherboard.

There could be many reasons behind this slow issue. Troubleshoot it more and you will be able to narrow it down.

  6. I'm currently using a regular power surge protector for my computers. I have been thinking of buying a UPS battery backup instead. Is there any big advantage over having a regular surge protector? I mean, if I do get a surge, will the UPS backup still be in good condition for me to shut my computer down properly? Most of the lower end UPS backups I've seen say the power run time is 4-10 minutes long. Why does it take 4-8 hours to charge it up to 90% and give so little power usage at the end? What should I look for in terms of joules, VA, and other terms I see being used?Very new to the UPS backup devices, so any help will be greatly appreciated. I will be using my computer, monitor and maybe an external hard drive for this. So one with 4 ports or so will be perfect. Also, any brands in particular that you like? Thanks.

  7. Hi Stefan and welcome to Xisto.

The script created by seec77 was a lifesaver for me. I'm still using it very frequently to this day <_<

You need to look at two areas in the script:

    Match = "Budget"Set FilesDir = FSO.GetFolder("C:\yotam\temp\renamefiles\test\")

For the Match part, in your case enter something like 007. That should be more than enough since I'm assuming ALL your files in THAT folder starts with 007 right? Keep in mind that if you have any other files that are different like 008, it will NOT rename that file. So make sure they are following some pattern.

After that part, you need to tell it what folder you have it in. So if you have all those JPGs in c:\images, enter that into the double quotes for the Set FilesDir line.

Once that's done, close the visual basic editor window. Hit Alt+F8 to bring up the Macros window. Double click on the macro to run it.

  8. I don't see why not. If your site has good content Google usually will accept it. Don't just make the site for the sake of making money. Google's Adsense program is not a get rich program. I use it mainly to cover the webhost and domain costs. So keep that in mind. If you have lots of good information on your site, more visitors will visit and usually the Adsense program pays well.

Same here...it seems like they WILL send out your payment once you reach $100. You just have to enter your address in it along with the bank information. They support a list of countries. Take a look at:

    https://support.google.com/adsense/

  9. Welcome to Xisto. Please use quotes when quoting words from another source. Also make sure you post in the correct section of the forums. You posted in the How-To and Tutorials for the hardware section....topic moved here <_<Are you using a CD-RW drive right now? Have you tried to read that CD from another computer and see if it works?

  10. phpBB3 has improved dramatically from what I have read and seen. If he wants to upgrade to phpBB3, he may do so. Otherwise, try the installation steps I provided in the link earlier. SMF will be coming out with a new version as well. Still working on it now but from what I have seen in the live environment, it looks promising...only improving more <_<

  11. I started out as a YabbSE forum user and later converted to SimpleMachines Forum. Been using SMF ever since. The installation itself is very easy to setup and so are the mods. Support and security are definitely some of the stronger points also. I gave phpBB a try in the past before, but for some reason, passed on it. phpBB3 has a lot of rave and I will need to give it a test drive. I probably will remain a loyal SMF user, but don't mind exploring other forum systems and see how they work :PFor the hosting part, I rather host on a free webhost but I don't mind paying for one. I actually have been using a paid one for years now even when I have a free hosting account here at Xisto. Hosting doesn't cost a lot unless you want to be on a dedicated server <_<

  12. This is two different issues/questions. Depending on what games you are making and how you are making it, it may or may not require any additional hardware. If it's a simple text based game for the PC, all you need is the software to create the game and the PC to run it.Why do you need a server for? You can always buy a server hosting service online. They will provide their servers and you pay a monthly fee.

  13. I would but there's no point repeating what's already posted at SimpleMachines Forums <_<

    Take a look at:

    http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/?docRedirect

It will explain step by step on how to install/convert your forum. If you used FTP before, this shouldn't be too much of a problem to install. If you have any further questions after reading that install/conversion guide, feel free to post them here or over at the official SimpleMachines Forum.

  14. I have Outlook 2003 and setup my Gmail account in it. Is there any way to customize Outlook so it will have all the conversations from the same person in one big email entry? I found a way to sort the emails by conversations but I still have to click through multiple emails to open each one instead of having all the replies in on big message (like in Gmail). Also, does anyone know how to sync the email deletions between Gmail and Outlook? I even emptied out my Deleted Items folder in Outlook but it's still in the Gmail server. I searched and others just said to download the messages from Gmail and set the option for the downloaded emails to be deleted...it's a workaround that I want to avoid for now.Thanks.
