  1. You can use Game maker to make 3D games like FPS, but they'll be like Doom(the original one). That Realm Forge GDK however looks pretty... I'll have to find time to get and play around with that.BTW, how user friendly is that GDK thing? Did you yourself make what was in your screenshot? Do you have any othe examples or should I just check out the website?
  2. I think it's cool that CelTech Studios, the group of students who did this mod, did it as a school project. Unfortunately, last I heard the school program they did it for has the rights to it. That and they'll all have jobs to take up a lot of time. I hope that they'll be able to get some more done on this mod, to make this amazing experience last even longer.By the way, I still haven't found the edit button for your posts on this forum A little help would be appreciated lol
  3. This is a very interesting mod. Unfortunately it's REALLY short right now, but it's really fun nonetheless. This single player, fantasy styled mod has some backstory that isn't really fleshed out at the moment, and I can't remember it anyways. But, it centers around some woman who can use telekinesis. This is what makes this mod so cool. There are no weapons with which you defend yourself against the denizens of this universe, so you have to make use of your intellectual talents to survive. Using your telekinesis, you can pick up any random heavy objects lying around and then hurl them at your enemies, sorta like the gravity gun. But, unlike the gravity gun, you can pick up more than one object at a time before hurling them at something. This is where it really gets fun. I don't know if there's a limit to how much you can pick up, but I had 20 objects ready to throw at some hapless creature at one point. By the way, the objects that you pick up with your mind don't move around with you; they hover in one location. so be careful where you aim, because you may end up in your own crosshairs. If given time to make many more levels (there's only 4 and they're short ) this could be a great single player experience. If they decide to make this multiplayer... that would simply be ungodly fun You can get it off of fileplanet. Here are some screenshots that I took while playing:
  4. While the code itself isn't similar at all, the concepts that you learned will help you out. I did the same thing my junior year in highschool when I took Pre-calculus, programming games and other amusing but pointless programs on my TI-83 plus. I would have continued last year but I got screwed out of my Calculus class. I don't really know how well it applies to other programming languages, but the TI-basic will be a better foundation than no background in programming at all.
  5. Yeah, it's down for me as well. Deviant art is a good place to go as well, but I'm curious about this art conspiracy and what that's like.
  6. I started with notepad and learned the basics. Then I moved on to Dreamweaver and got halfway decent with tabled layouts. But now as I'm experimenting with and being impressed with CSS design, I'm starting to use NotePad++. If you like notepad, then you definately want to get NotePad++. It's free, covers many programming languages, has syntax highlighting, small download, and tabs! The tabs are enough reason to use Notepad++ over plain Notepad. it's so much easier to work on an entire website in one window instead of having to wade trhough 20+ windows of Notepad.
  7. so much for getting the tutorial before I run out of hosting credits. Oh well, I can always dig myself out of my hole (if it works that way). But anyways, sorry about not being on very often recently because of yard work, college orientations, opening bank accounts, nearly spilling about a ton (literally) of gravel all over a major road in Grand Rapids and being admitted into a Counter Strike clan has pretty much consumed my life recently. But, I have returned. I will hopefully have the next version of my website done by the time I get my hosting back up and the tutorial will be posted there, as well as the one that I have previously submitted. I'm truely sorry about the wait and if I have dissapointed anyone, again, I'm very sorry
  8. Thanks for the feedback guys. And just so you all know, a tutorial for making the animations is well underway. I know that it's taking a while and I'm sorry, Graduation and family illnessess kinda took most of my time away. But as for the tutorial itself, I'm probably going to make an html page to show it off and make it available to download as well as a PSD of the banner itself so you guys can see the inner workings of the animations on the banner. So have patientce and hopefully I'll have the tutorial in before my hosting credits run out
  9. For FPS, the Half life series rules the day, just for the crazy amount of quality mods out there for them... well not Half Life 2 quite yet but most definately for the first. Many of the mods for Half life I prefer over other companies games that you have to pay for. I have more fun playing Day of Defeat, a WW2 mod for Half Life, more than any of the Medal of Honor games. America's Army? Nah, I'll take Firearms, a military based Half life mod that gives more of a large scale conflict with fewer people. However, Plan of Attack, the first true Half Life 2 mod, gives a similar setting and is fast proving to be a worthy substitue as well. Enter the Matrix? Yeah right, The Specialists is superior to it in all aspects except for graphics. The list grows as more Mods are released. The ability to mod a game can make an otherwise average or even sub par, to a lesser extent, a great game with lasting power. If attached to an already great game, like Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights and of course the Half life series, then it will surpass all others as time wears on.
  10. I used 3 fonts here, all available at DaFont.com. The smallest font, used in the first two lines of text to appear, is BM Gaia, a bitmap font. The next line of text to appear, the one saying "I Am," is the Resident Evil movie font. Finally, I used the Omega Sentry font to spell out my username, Zorlen. As for a tutorial, I'll probably type one up sometime soon. I figured someone would want to know how I did the animations. It's really simple so it shouldn't take too long. Thankfully I kept the original .psd file. I'm glad that you found the quote entertaining. Plato is the person who made that, believe it or not, minus the last two words that I added . As I said earlier, the sig is an adaptation of one that I use for Gaming forums where I usually go by Zuljin. Really the only thing different is the name.
  11. I was getting bored with my old sig so I made a new one. This time around it's not a box, it's a little smaller and best of all, it's animated! oooooohhhhh.... Animation...... *drools* Anyways, I'm posting this to get a feel on what you guys think of it. Also, I know that the very end of the cycle is cut off a little, I'm just too lazy to make the name fade out this very second. This is also a homage to Half Life 2 and it's mods that I play, such as CSS and Plan of Attack. So, here's the banner: hmmm, it seems that with all the flash banners on the page the animation slows slightly, at least near the beginning. to see it without the lag, [click here]
  12. Yaeh, I figured that out the hard way. but it is actually cool to see at least some of Dungeon Siege 2 before it gets released
  13. if you want tutorials for practically every method of design out there, from graphics to coding to MS Word, check out Pixel2Life great site with thousands of tutorials for a variety of things.
  14. I remember when I got the first of my 2 pokemon games. Back in 6th grade (I'm graduating next week) I got the blue version and my brother got the red. I was fairly hooked at first, but soon drifted away. Never got into the card game, but my brother did. As a game alone without the annoying cutesy shell, pokemon is actually a halfway decent RPG in a similar structure as the game boy Final Fantasy games (yes they made at least 3 of them, a loooong time ago). Every once in a while when I bored and don't feel like dying in CSS or playing NWN/Morrowind/KOTOR I toy with the idea of playing Pokemon, but the cutesy exterior simply gets on my nerves. That and Pokemon is a poorly disguised plot by the Japanese to create kamikazee warriors out of the young, impressionable youths of the world. As to the sturdiness of gameboys, I have to say that they are very durable. My first generation GameBrick, the first beige gameboy that you couldn't stuff in your pocket if your tried, still works after however many years that I've had it. I dropped my gameboy pocket outside in the middle of a michigan winter on my way home from my bus stop and left it there a couple of nights untill one day after school I found it in a snow bank. That little bugger still worked just as wall as when we bought it. Gameboys are built to last.
  15. There are a lot of them if you know where to look. Try going to Fileplanet.com and check their section called "Korean MMOs. There are a bunch of MMOs available to be found there that are completely free. Also, don't worry about language barriers, chances are there's going to be one in a language that you understand. I highly suggest you try them. As for a "future king of RPG," I just watched a trailer for TES 4: Oblivion and I nearly sh--er.... crapped--myself. IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While it didn't show much of actual gameplay, what was shown look fairly cool but not enough was shown to make an accurate guess as to how it will play. But, what was shown in it was simply amazing. There is no way to describe it in words. Go to Fileplanet and download it. NOW. You will be amazed. Finally, for what makes a great RPG. Here's some things that I feel are valuable for any RPG/any Game: -->Has to be assesible for new players, but allows for complex yet satisfying actions to keep from being stale. -->Multiple Endings = mucho replayability assuming all endings are possible and the ends justify the means. -->Freedom is good. Let the player do what he/she wants when he/she wants in a way that he/she wants to, but give incentive to do the main quest/goal/whatever. If I think of more I'll post them later.
  16. Is anyone else here joining the public Beta Test for Dungeon Siege 2? You can sign up for it at FilePlanet and it's free. It's going to be interesting to see what they did with it after the first one.
  17. I'm sorry, but I don't remember the direct link(s) to the brushe(s) I used. Sorry about that. I do know that you will find them and a lot more at Deviant Art. I found them before I had signed up to be a deviant so I couldn't favorite them I wish I could help.By the way, I remember someone asking about asking someone to make a tutorial on making your own brushes. Well, I'm experimenting with that right now, but it could be a while before I get anything on par with this tutorial. I'm going to try to keep the quality of my future tutorial submissions on par with this one or better, raising the bar as I go.
  18. Here's another website with a lot of free stuff on it: The Free Country: This website has lots and lots of free things that you can play around with. The Free Country tends to focus on Programming and web development. The site contains free text editors, compilers, IDEs, scripts in Perl and PHP and tutorials on how to use them. It's amazing how many programming languages this service covers. From the typical C family and Java to Fortran and PASCAL, this site has you covered. It even has tools that allow you to create your own programming language, compilers, debuggers, ect. if you felt so inclined. So, if your just starting out with programming or simply want to try your hand at your own personal programming language and your strapped for cash, this site has you covered.
  19. Not only is Internet Exploder (I liked the use of exploiter, that made me laugh ) bad for the user, but it's irritating for the designers as well. In my personal experience FireFox has displayed webpages that I create better than IE. I haven't really gotten into the CSS yet, just doing simple things as of yet to learn it, but IE will mess up your tabled layout if your lazy and try to make the layout a giant table, like I did before I knew better . As to the advertisers focusing on FireFox... As good as Firefox is, it will probably not become as widespread as IE because, as someone stated earlier, IE comes with Windows. Because it won't be widespread, FireFox won't be targeted nearly as often as IE will. That right there vastly increases the security of FireFox and explains the severe, and welcome, lack of spyware/viruses/pop-ups.
  20. Hmmm.. That's pretty cool. I think I'll use that untill I redesign my layout to include the phpBB forum you provide with your hosting. Thanks for posting that m^e!
  21. That bevel you added in the latest version really looks great. IF you do get it animated, I can't wait to see it. Your doing a great job.
  22. http://alyn.deviantart.com/ <-- He is by far my favorite artist there so far. He does insanely beautiful fantasy scenes that are simply breathtaking. That and I'm a fantasy nerd What is real isn't nearly as interesting as what *could* be real I also think it's cool that he does such a good job that he sells them as prints. his work is really that good!
  23. I have a PS2, a game cube and a PC, and my friend fills in the xbox gap. I am, now and forever, a PC gamer. PC was first (well, the apple / apple2 or whatever the first PC people played games on was) and it will be the last. At this year's E3 nVidia will be announcing a new graphics card that will be a 512 MB card. That already beats out the xBox 2. I actually like the mouse and keyboard, it is vastly superior to the controller for first person shooters an RTS games, but there are controllers available for the games where they work better. It will be interesting to see what other think though.
  24. I met with yet another setback. Turns out that a free account on Ripway can only upload 5 MBs in one sitting, meaning that I can't upload them in one zipped folder. Hopefully they will be small enough when seperate to host there. Also, I made another version of the starfield using the planet, but I'll be posting it in the other thread that I made. For how I got them to look 3-d using only photoshop, Yes shading was a big part of it, but I also used a filter called "sphereize" that distorts to the image to give it a 3-dimensional, sphere-like appearance. You'll see what I mean as soon as I can get the .psd hosted. And finally, I wasn't really trying to make any specific planet in the 1024 by 768 image, just a scene with a few planets and a nebula as a backdrop. This will be emphasized in the newer version with the most prominant planet having rings.
  25. That's a toughie right there. I made the transition to Source like many, but cs 1.6 still has it's merits. Such as you don't need an uber computer to run it. That can be a problem in source; the graphics can kill your frame rate. Also, I seem to get a much lower ping in mods of the original Half life than I do playing the source mods. That is a little aggrivating, but I can live with it. Also, I've played pretty much all of those maps in Source except for oilrig. I'm not quite sure if I've played the original assault in source yet, but I have played some of the altered versions.
