  1. What you are talking about is a peer to peer lan setup First thing to check if you are going PC to PC is that you are using a crossover RJ45 cable or it will never work Is that what you are using ?
  2. I wonder if that is true There is a cost in having Internet Access, downloading, data charges etc. Thinking about that is there a perception that "because I have paid for web access" there should be no charge for anything else". Which is why subscrption news sites nre not comon I think
  3. Looks good-, I must try it with some of the add on API based systems (such as the excellent GLScene tools) and test to see if they will compile and runRegards
  4. One thing most people are not aware of is that you can get a windows DLL that will allow MS Access on a Windows System to connect to MYSQL on a Linux machine over the internet.

    Ai? anyone know

There are a number of freeware AI systems available One that I have been looking at is AI Application Regards
  6. Why are things supplied for free when they cost the supplier money or time? This s a thread to discuss this and try and see motivations. Why is this important ? Because ,in business, I need to know the supplier and thier motivations, as freeware and other free things can be a carrier for things that are dangerous suck as viruses, trojans and other nasties. Having a look at the excellent offer from Xisto I see two motivations, one that they are trying to encourage usage in an altruistic way , the other that there is an entry barrier in the number of posts that will encourage those who do not want to pass that barrier to pay the very low entry cost of $9.95 for a better service. What other free items can you identify with different reasons for the offer? Some I can think of are Altruisim Self Promotion Company Promotion Branding Spoiler (of some other commercial software) Competition between offerings Promotion of alternatives Any other motivations with examples Thanks
  7. I have used a number of packages: Blitzbasic 3D Dark Basic Orge Delphi and GL Scene Of these al have strengths and all have weaknesses Blitzbasic 3D - great support, costly good level builder (Maplet) diffculty in importing models Dark Basic - not cheap, so so support Ogre -C language -looks goog Delphi with GL Scene - my favourite
  8. Be careful of electrostatic damage , and above all do not work inside the Switchmode power supply. If you do the former your system wil not die unexpectedly from ES damage, if you do not heed the latter then it is not just the motherboard that could die.Regards
  9. Be careful of secondhand systems at auction sites, often they are still overpriced as the person selling sets the value by what they paid (i.e I paid $1000 for this 3 years ago) rather that what they are worth. Can I sell anybody a Microvax Unit (older Server equivalent to a 386) that I still have on the books at $10,000 ......
  10. Did this ever work? Is you username and password correct? What clinet are you using? What OS (can you access the low level FTP client in Win*** and use that to test the client? Any more info ? We can not really help with what you have given us. Regards
  11. With Databases it really is a case of "horses for courses"MySQL is everywhere where Linux and LAMP (Linux,Apache,MySQL,PHP and or Perl) exist. But it is not the most powerful of the free database offerings. In Order of Simplicity of Data Structure for "Free" Databases the choice would be CSV File |XML file | basicaly text filesMySQLPostGreSQLSQL Server Express (Win32 only) -note 4G data limitOf the list the latter two are the hardest to learm, but most powerful (i.e including stored procedures)Regards
  12. It's not a database but have you considered creating a Gmail account and posting items by email to it. With extensive searching capability, ability to order emails by category and up to 2Gbyte storage, and did I mention free, it could meet your needsRegards
