  1. Eurogamer.net is reporting that Valve has confirmed a Half-Life 2 expansion, titled Half-Life 2: Aftermath. According to the site, Valve employees Robin Harper and Marc Laidlaw spoke with PC Gamer UK about the forthcoming expansion.Apparently, Valve is working on the expansion rather than doling out the development to another studio, like it did with Half-Life expansions Blue Shift and Opposing Force, both developed by Gearbox Software."Right now, we're really, really good at making Half-Life 2," Harper admits. The specifics of the game are still very unclear. It is known that hero Gordon Freeman's sultry sidekick, Alyx, will play a large part in the add-on, but in what context is anyone's guess. Whether she will be a playable character, as previously rumored, is unknown. The expansion will take place immediately after the conclusion of Half-Life 2 and will see Freeman and Alyx fleeing from City 17 and its impending destruction. "You and Alyx are leading the flight from the city getting up close and personal with some of the creatures and sights from the end of the game," says Laidlaw.Valve failed to mention any release dates or game-specific information in the interview

  2. The next tutorial is based on creation of a reflective material in 3ds max. this tutorial will help u create a surface that reflects everything in sight.1. Fire up 3dsmax.2. Press 'm'3. Change the box where u see 'Normal' i.e. material type. Change it to raytrace.4. Change the colours to the colours you want.5. In the maps section click the box next to reflection.6. Select raytrace from the list.7. Apply the material to any object. 8. Render the sceneVoila!!! you have created a reflective material. You can also try..1. Using the mental ray renderer (More on that later) for better reflections.2. appling the noise map.3. Animating the object to move around and seeing the reflection change.

  3. The Internet is like the Wild wild west where every other unethical activity is probable and to a large extent possible. The world wide web has enabled people to share huge amounts of information and gain knowledge at an immense rate but the question that arises is does sharing your intellectual property on the Internet deprives you from its copyright, does it give the right to other people to copy it and use it without mentioning your hard work?Well, apparently according to both US and Indian (still somewhat in its infancy) laws the answer is not affirmative. But there is always the glowing loophole, that same path which saves the criminal from going behind the bars and the path is nothing but the fact that criminal copyright laws hold that people who are making financial profits from your intellectual property without your knowledge can only be held responsible for infringement of the desired laws. However, this does not stop the rampant copying of a website's material to other sites, forums, chat rooms and other places. Since, this is admittedly not done for profit, the person cannot be called a criminal. Thus, if one fine day you see your work flashed on some forum or website without the least mention of your name, don't blame the person who did it, blame the laws that govern us.

  4. I bought condition zero a week back. I mainly boght it so i could play it online. In the main menu i could only see 'Play online using steam' I cicked on it and it tried to install steam even though i already had it (From HL2). I completed the installation nonetheless but i still saw no option where i could play. I referred the user's manual and the screen-shots of the main menu give were different from what i saw. Why this and how can i solve the problem and play the game onlibe?? Also till now the game has not asked me for my serial number.

  6. Mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan devised the problem and after 75 years Karl Mahlburg of the University of Wiscinson, Madison, USA solved it in a few months. So what was the problem? Well, here it goes:Lets take the number 5. In how many ways can you show that 5 is the sum of other smaller numbers?5 = 55 = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 15 = 4 + 15 = 3 + 25 = 2 + 2 + 15 = 1 + 3 + 15 = 2 + 1 + 1+ 1Hence, the number of ways is 7.This property of numbers is called partitions and is written as p(5) = 7.Now comes the fun part, these partitions comes in intriguing pairs. For instance, p(15)=176. From the 176 ways it can be partitioned, a pair of sums can be5 + 4 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 1and6 + 3 + 3 + 2 +1If this is assembled in a grid like pattern, if you read downwards you will get the second pattern where if you read across you will get the first pattern.Another interesting thing that Ramanujan and Hardy found while working in the UK on partitions is that numbers of the order 5n + 4 are divisible by 5 and numbers of the order 7n + 4 are divisible for 7. The most fascinating part of this is ofcourse the fact that all these are prime numbers (order in chaos, no doubt). This was given a name: congruences. The question that hovered after this discovery is whether all the primes followed this property and why. If not, why only some of this. The next in the family of primes was ofcourse 11 and congruence for that was found by Andrews and Prof. Garavan of the University of Florida. They called it “crank”. Recently, Prof. Ken Ono stumbled across Ramanujan’s notebook and found that the patterns of congruence was just the tip of the iceberg, there were patterns everywhere.Mahlburg wanted to continue Prof Ono’s work on congruence and so he did to prove why the “crank” rule applied to all prime numbers. He submitted two papers called the ‘The Andrews-Garvan-Dyson crank and proofs of partition congruences’ and ‘More congruences for the coefficients of quotients of Eisenstein series’ to The Journal of Number Theory proving that the “crank” theory existed for all prime numbers. So why is his work so important to the common person? Well, it is so because Websites use the laws of partitions to encrypt credit card information sent over the Internet. Mahlburg’s finding would only make it more secure. So the next time you pay for your webhosting, you know whom to thank!
