  1. Reactor Tutorial 2INTRODUCTIONThis is my next tutorial for 3dsmax 7. There was a nice response to the first tutorial but the 2nd and 3rd....the less we talk about it the better. Anyway this time i decided to shift back to reactor, something that fascinates me. My previous tutorial was something that wasnt very realistic so this time im going to teach you something more realistic. Im sure most of you will agree that collisions are very tough to animate, so reactor basically makes your life easier not only on that account but on many other "Physical" aspects of an animation too. I am not very familiar with the other areas so i will not delve into that as of now. Now, imagine a box filled with balls. You throw another ball at it and make it topple. Now, what would happen? If one was to animate the sequence manually it would be very complex so here i make it a lot easier. Yes we would animate the baox toppling, the balls falling and then the aftermath. This entire sequence is very simple if you follow my steps as they are. In my last tutorial i got many e-mails from people who had missed some or the other step and hence the 'reaction' (pun intended) was not as expected. This sequence basically contains of the following steps.I Object creationa)Boxb)Ballsc)Projectiled)PlaneII Setting up the reactiona)Applying mass propertiesb)Providing the initial velocityc)Previewing animationIII Final Rendering_________________________________________________________________Before you begin, please reset 3dsmax. You can do this by going to File-> Reset._________________________________________________________________I Object Creationa)BoxTo create the box do the following1. Create 5 small boxes with dimensions Length and Width = 400 and Height = 252. Arrange the boxes to form a larger hollow box.3. Select and right-click the box used as the base of the box, and in the Transform quadrant of the quad menu, choose Convert To > Convert To Editable Mesh. 4.In the Edit Geometry rollout of the Modify panel, click Attach List.5.In the Attach List dialog, select the other four boxes, which make up the sides of the box, and click Attach. You now have a single mesh representing the box. :P Balls1. Now create a sphere of radius 25 in the box but make sure that the sphere does not touch the box. 2.Now select the move button. Press SHIFT and move the sphere upwards till it does not touch the other sphere. Now leave the mouse button. 3.In the dialog box change the value of no. of clones to 39.c) Projectile1. Create another sphere of radius 25 outside the box but in line with the box at a distance from it.d) Plane1. Create another large box of Length=Width=4000 and Height= 252. Move it so that it is just below the other box that we have created.3. Also make sure that the smaller box is on the edge of this box that we have just created.________________________________________________________________We have now finished the setting up of the scene, we need not create any new objects here onward but just have to keep making some modifications till the final result is achieved. Now we play with reactor.________________________________________________________________II REACTORa) Creating a rigid body collection. 1. Select all the objects that you have created by pressing Ctrl+A 2.Now goto reactor->Create Object-> Create rigid body collection. 3.Now click on the select by name option and select all the spheres EXCEPT the projectile.4.Goto reactor->Open Property Editor.5. Change the mass value to 506. Now select the two boxes and open their reactor property editors.7. Change Simulation Geometry to Concex Mesh.8. Goto reactor->Preview Animation.9. Press 'P'. Watch all the spheres fall into the box. Allow them to settle in the box.10. Then in the preview window goto MAX->Update MAX.11. Close the preview window.____________________Now, we have created the balls in the box as they would be when the collision will take place. We will now give the projectile it's initial velocity.____________________b)Providing the initial velocity. 1. Select the projectile.2. Click on Autokey.3. Change the frame to 104. Move the sphere to the other side of the box.5. Switch of autokey.6. On the upper right hand side you see some icons. Click on the icon that would say 'utilities' on mouse over. It looks like a hammer.7. In the list click on reactor. 8. Under preview and animation change the start frame value to 2 and end frame value to 500.9. Now open the reactor property editor of the projectile.10. Change mass value to 100 and select 'Bounding Sphere' under simulation geometry.11. Now preview the final animation.12. If you are satisfied with the result do the following bwfore you render the final sequence.13. In the lower right corner of the screen there is a button with a clock on it which says 'Time Configuration'. Click on it and change end time to 500.14. Now goto Reactor->Create Animation. 15. Play the entire animation in the main window. If you are happy with the entire animation you can render the scene.III FINAL RENDERING1. Click on rendering->Render....2. In the dialog box. Select 'Active Time Segment' under Time Output3. Under Render output apecify a file location and name. 4. Finally click on 'Render' Button and wait._________________________________________________________________Congratulations you have completed the basic tutorial._________________________________________________________________ADVANCED USER OPTIONSHere are a few more ideas for advanced users.*You can create a reflective plane and get a cool looking effect*Creating a camera and linking it to some object or even manully animating a fly around sequence.*Rendering from multiple angles and then putting them together in one slick video.*Playing with lights and shadows* Creating a daylight system and using more types of textures for the plane, box and the balls to make it seem like a real life situation.Have Fun!If you have any problems feel free to contact me at meetnakul@hotmail.com

  2. Yup - you heard it right!!

Not that I have much use of that piece of trash anyways - but Microsoft never made any attempt to make your life easy by providing you with an option to remove IE. SO whatever other favourite browser of yours you might be using, IE will still lurk around in some corner of your system and keep popping up (irritating to the core) windows sometimes on request of some external application (that's another thing that eludes me - why do windows application developers NOT resort to popping up readme's using your system default browser??)  It's like once you start developing applications for windows - you hand over your life, soul and everything to Devill Gates..

I download a whole bunch of new softwares and keep trying and trashing my system 5 times a week in the process. When we had Win95, I'd to reinstall my system on an average of 2.5 times a week.

The reason of all this raving and ranting - is, now some application (which I cannot spot) - has managed to Hijack my IE start page. When I fire up IE - it ALWAYS starts loading either microsoft.com or msn.com - WTF?? I tried everything - registry edits & hacks, windows tweaks, 100's of antipsyware and antiviruses - NOTHING, ZILCH.. no one can save IE from loading the MS sites on startup. Not that I'm bothered anyways - coz as I said, I use IE RARELY to view some of the so-called "IE compatible" pages. But even so, this is outright outrageous. And this is also a first - never before I've seen anything like this. Talk about gloating on your own product...boy, microsoft is surely in love with every inch of what it has designed. Big Brother?? This is just the start. Rather they've laid the foundations well. Phewww.. wouldn't even leave the goddamned browser startup page alone. Last I heard MS has started a new division along with it's TQM (Total Quality Management) - this one's called TCM, C being for Control.... on your wretched, pathetic, miserable existence... which of course, MS is trying to elevate you out of, by taking you to your most desired site of the day/month/year/lifetime through their hell's angel IE...

    Enough...

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    lmao....very good post .

I too had that problem '1/0' number of times. I installed Microsoft Antispyware on my pc and it works fine and has prevented a change in the start page atleast 15 times till now. Spybot S&D too prevented this from happening....

    Btw...'1/0' is infinity.

  3. EDIT:

i thought of coming back and adding this in:

While I'm using a 1Meg ADSL link here in Thailand and I was feeling lucky - I was amazed to hear recently, that my home country India, is one of the FIRST ever to offer ADSL2 - which offers download speeds upto at least 25MB/s - and right now, only U.S. and India are the ONLY two countires in the whole wide world offering these standards. The rest are busy implementing it yet - most will get it done sometime later this year. Now, I've been out of my home for almost past 5 years, and I'm extremely impressed to hear about such fantastic developments in the communications front... In fact, even when I was back home, I'd worked in the Network Design section of a company named Reliance Telecom, India which was setting up a 3 Terrabyte Fibre Optic backbone all over the country, which was to (possibly) link every home/office all over the country through high-grade copper core wires joining up with the main FDDI backbone through certain ports known as the MAN or [/b]Metropolitain Access Nodes[/b]. I'm overjoyed to hear that all of it has worked out for the better and this post is simply to share the delight with you guys ...

25Mbps....man thats costly....Im not too sure about the provider though.. I never heard this one...

    Allright....im ignorant.

  4. I used to be on Sify "Broadband" I used to pay 10USD a month for a miserable 48kbps "Unlimited" connection. The speeds were pathetic. Their 'unlimited" meant not more than 200MB/day. If you dared to cross that 1 day would be deducted from your validity. It was better than 1GB limit for SIX months at 128 Kbps.A few months back the government made a law stating that they had to provide speed of "256Kbps" upwards to call it boradband so now it's "Lightning Fast Internet through Cable". BSNL thats a government owned company give 256Kbps ADSL at 10USD per month. But their are limits. You can get upto 1 Mbps for the home segment at.........60USD if im not wrong.

  5. Anyway, if we discuss this topic "without talking about the companies that makes the program or prices", then I would like to answer with a question:If somebody would give you a car for free, and leaves you the choice between a Maserati and a Volkswagen, which one would you choose?

I guess most of us DID NOT really pay the license fee for MS Office, so this comparison with the free cars might not be sooo stupid.

ROFL....I think that was something i wanted to say but couldnt...i too use a...ummm lets call it illegal copy of Office and saw no point in shifting to OpenOffice..

  6. I was going through Nvidia's website today when i came across this.... Does anybody know this dude??

Full Name: Jay VenturiGaming Handle: Morte
    Country: USA
City and State or Province: Chesapeake, Virginia

For some guys, running two GeForce 6 series cards together in SLI mode isn't enough firepower. Jay Venturi of Chesapeak, Virginia decided to up the ante on his custom Lian Li case, using two 512 MB NVIDIA Quadro workstation cards to create a monster of a machine. To ensure that he has enough power to pump all that rendering data through his dual GPUs, Jay linked together two 600W power supplies! What does this produce? How about running Doom 3 benchmarks at over 140 FPS at 1600x1200 resolution, with 4X AA? If 512 MB of RAM for each graphics card wasn't enough, Jay caps it off with an additional 16 (yes, sixteen) GB of ECC memory plugged into his motherboard. All this hardware, paired with his Dual Opteron CPUs, Jay is leaving little doubt that his PC is of the best and fastest out there!

Here are some of the specs on Jay's machine:
    (2) SLI 4400 fx Quadros 512 mb each
    Tyan S2895 dual opti board
    (2) Dual Opteron 252 step E 90nm
    16GB RAM (ECC)
    1.6 Terabytes of RAID Storage (4) 400GB SATA-2 Drives
    Logitech Laser mouse
    Dual Layer Burner
    Zelman Cooling Al-Cu
    Lian Li VP2000 case
    Dual 600watt power supplies (linked)
    Samsung 24 inch LCD 1900x1200
Windows Enterprise Server 2003 64 bit and 32 bit

    Scores:

    X2 The Threat benchmark
    All eye candy
    1600x1200
    specular, auto-detail, etc
    101.601 FPS

  7. OK. I'm sure your not a complete idiot. Tutorials will help you a great deal and they are probably the most helpful tool when learning something. I would suggest downloading the PHP Manual from PHP Freaks. There are some great beginner and "all you need to know" tutorials in the Tutorials section so you should look there. We all suggest installing PHP, Mysql and Apache on your system so you can test and still code PHP when you are not online also you dont have to keep uploading the script everytime you update it. It is just extremly convenient having it all installed on your system. You can use any editor while making PHP pages the only difference is you have to include all things PHP within:

How do i install all that on my PC??? Can someone provide the links to the downloads...???

  8. The Indonesian government has struck a deal with Microsoft whereby government computers running pirated software will be legalised at a dollar each, according to Information Minister Sofyan Djalil.

"Microsoft will certify the already-installed illegal software. But in the future, all government computers must have legal software produced by the company," he told the Jakarta Post.

The plan apparently evolved in a meeting between Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Microsoft founder Bill Gates in Redmond.

More than 50,000 PCs are in government use, the JPost said, and there are no records of which are running legal software -- so the deal might take some time to execute.

All computers running Windows would have to be certified under the plan, which is seen as a pragmatic first step toward encouraging an end to piracy in Indonesia.

  9. Heh alright. Sorry, I forgot EA and i havent heard of valve. Still, Nintendo pwns you all. You can't compete with nintendo. Its like awesome w/o the awsme plus nintnd!

Or Steam even.....i still cant believe you haven't heard of Valve......phew....

  10. Hmm..... I see that you've missed Valve. So i guess i'll say it here...

    VALVE!!!!

Apart from Valve i think Electronic Arts also deserves to be on that list... So ill say

    VALVE!!!!

    ELECTRONIC ARTS!!!

I dont mean any offence, actually i dont see why you would take any....

    :(

EDIT I think all the companies on the list rock and among them i'd go for Microsoft.

  11. Your host/server address is the domain/subdomain name you used to create your account at Xisto.
For example, if my account was wrekanyze.astahost.com - that's what I'd use with WSFTP to get into my account. The login name/password would be what you chose during your account creation, i.e. the same one that you use to get into your cPanel.

    Regards,
    m^e

Umm....a little correction there, since your sub-domain is

    dassomegoodish.astahost.com

    the required address would be
    ftp://ftp.dassomegoodish.astahost.com
and the directory would be public_hmtl.
