  1. IRC seems like a great way to chat.. it just seems a bit overwhelming as soon as it all loads.. Since I'm just starting off with it.. other than just chat.. does anyone know about and how to access and control the wider range of IRC features.. ?? (I hear there're a bunch of features that can be discovered). Here's to some exploration...Rashid
  2. A most interesting topic... Ever read Aurther C Clarke...?? in one of the Odessy series.. I think it was 3001Odessy, and this is further into the future circa 3K... earth sends out a ship equipped with a computer based on a nural network that is 'grown' through manupulated dna & nural cells... it is capable of storage and extremely quick flop times... the machine is extremely well described and the book is fascinating to read. As many of you would be aware.. Arthur C Clarke is the forerunner in future thought.. of practical machines - particularly computing and space tech - all to come.. !! Most of the timelines for development of new technologies as predicted by him, based on the projections of growth and development of current technology (since the early 50's) have materialised to a high degree. A computer based on biometric design and capable of very high storage/ recovery data flows as well as massive processing power is well possible in the very near future. Already scientists are experimenting with software that link large number of computers into networks that emulate the structure of cells in the brain. This makes it possible to evaluate the kind of results that may be expected from programing an actual biological nural network computer. Recently I remember reading about a very successful experiment where nervous cells (cells that make up the nervous system and the brain), were connected, in regulated numbers and patterns, so as to create a learning 'brain'; all with cells harvested from mice. Unfortunately I cant seem to locate this bit of information, but I'll try to locate it for this article. The 'theory' and especially the reality of having biological computing systems, created by humans with the ability to learn, store and process quantum amounts of information is scary indeed in the practical sence; especially so since, once created, such an intellegence will look out towards self preservation (presumably) and may not be controlable. Also, since, such a system will have to be grown (and will grow according to the system's own growth requirements) there is the distinct possibility that such a computer may not hesitate to make copies of itself, all the while transmitting garnered information to the replicas. On the more positive side of things, if such systems are created and may be controlled to a high degree; most of the world's problems may be taken care of. Things like production, communication, providing 'for' the basic of necisities etc will be better managed for the human race (again an assumption) as well as the rest of the world's creatures, all the while creating numerous new technologies by using all the computational and data manupulation abilities, hastening progress.Rashid Ahmed
  3. http://www.gettyimages.ca/landing/unsupported - is an excellent site for images and graphics.. you have to be a registered member to used non-watermarked images... the images are of very good quality and are suitable for magazine printing... Since I do contracted marketing, I tend to require a lot of images and graphics relating to a wide spectrum of verticles, to be used in making presentations and proposals, even while working on customer reach programs.. the quality pictures, most submitted by individuals really have been useful in upgrading my work output.. do check the site out..
  4. SinCity 3000 is excellent, once you've mastered 'not going bankrupt', its as easy as pie... !! Of course just as you're feeling quite prowd of having created something, and you're smiling at having made extra cash for your city, there's a nice tornado or an earthquake and poof... there's the end to everything... !! The worst part is that I always forget to check and fix the water mains after a disaster, also the subway systems get damaged rather expensively after an earthquake. All in all, it's a great simulation to play and keeps the brain ticking. And, of course, you've got to have a lot of time on your hands.. :DRashid
  5. Personally, I'd go with Hydrogen. I recently finished a wonderful book by Michael Crichton - 'State of Fear', which has a very 'environment interest' theme to it; which prompted me to look into the urgency of managing our environment. After a bit of looking around, it seems to me that all the hulabaloo about the environment going to the dogs is a bit overstated. Especially things like the 'Greenhouse Effect'. The point I want to make is that with increased carbon dioxide in the air, plants should thrive more, so, the 'thriving' plants should by far be able to take care of the 'oxygen' requirement that carbon lifeforms consume. But, human beings and nature combined are fast taking over and destroying vast forested areas continously, thus actually nulllifying the balance of oxygen production. Then again, the oceans produce upwards of 80% of all oxygen in the atmosphere. Now, if there was a 'greenhouse' effect, the surface temperature of the world's oceans would rise, thus bringing wider swathes into breeding grounds for plankton - the minute lil' things that are actually responsible for most of the oxygen creation. More phytoplankton means more oxygen, as well as abundant food supply for most kinds of fishes. But, a tremendous increase in the temperature will trigger a massive growth in the population which in turn will cause depletion of fish stocks due to a larger number of phytoplankton dieing and thus causing problems while decomposing. BUT, the planet as a whole is actually headed towards another MINI or MEGA ice age; actually we're well due for another ice-age. So, although we may notice temperatures rising in our cities (caused by close proximity steel & concrete structures - which retain heat for longer periods); most of the ice capped regions are actually experiencing a cooling effect. Driving Cars that 'pollute' The present form of transportation that the majority of us use burns fossil fuel. This, becides throwing carbon dioxide and various amounts of other gasses, also contributes a vast quantity of dust like particles to the environment. When a region gets enough of particles in the air, there is a blocking effect caused where lesser sunlight is actually allowed to penetrate. Lesser sunlight - lesser heating. The higher the particles travel in the atmosphere, the greater the cooling effect. (Whenever there is a volcanic eruption - the whole planet undergoes a cooling effect caused by the increased number of particles in the air. Grand effect of the cars we drive now days - more particles in the air & more carbon dioxide. Solution to both of these, stop major felling of trees and plant more trees. Humans can actually equate the amount of carbon produced by growing more trees. Transportation solution The immediate solution is to switch to a hybrid vehicle. The world as a whole WILL depend on fossil fuels for a bit. This is because technology has not advanced enough to depend wholly on alternative modes. The best bet would be on Hydrogen Cell technology combined with a conventional engine. The output of carbons would be much lower and the by product of the Hydrogen Cells would be water. Happiness pie.. !! Also, educating the public is of core importance. The more the general population knows about hybrid solutions, the greater the demand for these vehicles will be. The more the demand, greater the production, bringing down the costs, which in turn will mean cheaper hybrid cars. We really need to fund the planting of more trees..!!
  6. while I was trying vBulletin that happened to me a bit.. Read the installation guide that must have come with vBulletin .. make sure you're trying to access the Admin page as directed... NOW... The first thing you need to do is refresh your browser.. most likely this is the cause for the same page showing up.. Especially if you're using MSIE... it even happens upto 3 times refresh on Netscape.. I've not faced this problem with Firefox though.. So if you're using MSIE .. hit TOOLS> INTERNET OPTIONS> Under Temporary Internet Files, hit 'DELETE Cookies' and hit 'DELETE Files'... > OK.... this should dump your temp files and current cookies.. try loading your page and start from scratch now.. Should that not work... Check the following.. Go to your cPanel and click on phpMyAdmin.. this will bring up your installed DB (the database with your vBulletin should you have multiple DBB's... click on the table 'USERS' and browse this table.. it will show you the logins that are available with the vBulletin DB.. this is to check that the login you originally enetered is correct.. NOW...(assuming you remember the password).. go back to your browser and try the login with your password.. if this fails.. then there is a possibility that your config file needs checking.. or if this is fine.. then you probably need to start the login process from scratch.. __Checking your 'CONFIG' use your FTP client to go to the directory where you installed vBulletin and download the config.php file to your computer.. Open this file in a suitable Php editor and check that the database string points to the vBulletin DB you checked earlier using MyPHPAdmin.. next check that the username is correct as should be the password. If you're unsure of the username or password go to your cpanel... click on 'MySQL Databases' under ' Site Management Tools' and make a new user id with a new password.. make sure you also update the access .. that means you check to see that you've made the username for the correct DB.. most times.. you'll need to first make a username/ password before you can use most installed php suites.. After you've done this.. add the username & password to the config.php file.. save it and upload it to the same location you downloaded from.. Try your browser again.. This really should get things working... of not.. the next option.. __Adding a login directly into your user table... Use phpMyAdmin again.. click on the 'USERS' table.. browse this table.. insert a new login and password directly into the table.. Go to your browser.. refresh your browser.. use the new login and password you inserted directly into the Users table.. Any one of the above may solve your problem.. although if you're still facing issues.. then you can simply delete your entire installation... Delete the original database and reinstall the entire package.. infact if you have a fast connection.. I'd suggest you actually start from scratch.. All the best.. R.A.
  7. Thoughts on Nanotechnology: The future may be a lot closer than we may actually let ourselves be coaxed into believing. âTempus Fugitâ as they may say in Latin, âtime fliesâ faster as the ages progress. If you delve right into timelines youâll recognize the contraction of periods between when an idea is formed, technologies are developed and finally the original ideas are equated to actual real products. Back around 15,000 years ago, when human beings first began roaming the face of the planet in earnest, the brain developed at a frantic pace to keep in step with the new and ingenious uses people found for their bodies and mobile appendages. This meant that humans began using tools to hunt and in defense against predators; leaving a lot of time free for productive activities; since it took lesser time to actually carry out the basic survival chores. Lets look at some history⌠Enter fire! Back around 10,000 years ago (yes as close as that), human beings first started using fire for practical purposes like cooking and lighting in caves. Fire, infact, brought in a new dimension to light hours, during which productive activities may have been carried out. It meant that productive hours need not be restricted only to daylight, but, with fire, the night may too be utilized. The brain and body is forced to keep up with these developments and early humans adjusted to sleeping fewer hours and spent more time actively pondering. The thing about having time to think is that, one tends to think about the future, about you and yours, about the tribe and about innovation. But time is critical, and since people in the early days needed to judge how long it took to get something done, they possibly correlated between the cycles of day and night, the passing of the various phases of the moon and the average length of oneâs life. They discovered two very important things; measuring time through a calendar, and, numbers and the ability to count. This meant that activities could be allocated specific periods to be completed within, all preferably well within oneâs lifetime so as to be able to enjoy the fruits of research and development. Next came the wheel, the first ones possibly just plain logs used about 8,000 years ago; but the more well defined wells came into existence around Asia (Harappa and Mohinjodaro, and the Euphrates belt are examples), around 3,500 years back. This critical invention galvanized human progress, propelling travel, commerce, warefare and mechanics. Fast forward to the modern world. The industrial revolution driven by the invention of the steam engine and the extensive use of coal, started in Britain between 1750 and 1850. Technological innovations earnestly began around 1900 with the onset of wide use of electrical power and the advantages in communication through telephone as well as radio. The two world wars followed with near magical leaps in technologically advanced products. The first computers appeared around the 1950âs. These were rather large, unimaginably slow machines, although highly advanced for the day and age they were unveiled. The very first desktop was called the âSimonâ. Nearly all the computing power available for the launch of the first moon mission by the United States, may now be reflected in a mid-range desktop PC of today. The future, so soon..??!! The future, the very NEAR future I must add, will be the age of the Nano-machines, and of nanotechnology. Already the US is undertaking R&D to dress soldiers in combat uniforms that will be developed from the nano-fiber onwards. These would sense when a soldier is fatigued, and provide supplements through the skin, electrical impulses passed through the cloth to the soldier will enable faster reflexes; the outfit will provide field medical aid, would bunch up its nano-fiber material to form a proactive projectile proof material at nearly the speed of light on noticing a fast moving and possibly body damaging projectile, and, as an exo-skeleton would provide increased power (upto 4 times), of the soldiersâ strength. And this is just one use, a small one at that for nanotechnology. And all this between 2010 and 2015. Nanotechnology is already in use in many modern day applications. Take for example the laser head that reads CDâs. Widely used and very easily overlooked technology. What is nanotechnology?? To give you an idea about the scale, pluck a hair from your head. If youâve about averagely thick hair, the diameter of your hair (not the circumference and definitely not the length) would be between 90 and 100 nanometers. A carbon nano-tube, being manufactured in quantity now-a-days albeit a little expensively is 1 nanometer in diameter. Nanotechnology is mechanics, biomechanics, electro-mechanics and any thing to do with construction and manipulation at the nano scale. Not enough information is readily available that is unclassified and accessible to the common person at this stage on actual development of nanotechnology, but to give you an indication of how information flows, post innovation, lets take a few examples. Richard Fynman (you really must read the book â âSurely youâre joking Dr. Fynmanâ itâs hilarious), around 1955 had begun research into nanotechnology in earnest and had already made observations and publications as early as 1959. The SR-71 Blackbird, was doing in excess of Mach 3 in the early 1960âs over communist Russia and the general public became aware about itâs capabilities only in the mid 1980âs when the aircraft was de-commissioned. That is how information flows. Even if we compress timelines at the rate it takes to design increasingly higher performing computer chips, it would be a good ten years after actual military application that any nanotechnology developments would become commercially available. The way I figure it is that by 1920, weâd have the first onset of the full fledged nano-age. And what can we expectâŚ?? Visualize this⌠Construction: EBay is a little slow today, even though its 2025 and everyoneâs got terabyte per second internet connections. Your computer is larger than the older models, but you donât mind that since yours is a hybrid between a chip-based computing system and a quantum computer. The chip based part of the computer takes care of the vital components and sees to the general wellbeing of the unit, but the huge lunch box sized unit, although a bit embarrassing when your friends come over can accurately calculate weather patterns upto the hour a thousand years from now. Finally the page loads. The problem with the website is that the usage of the internet in transmitting gazillion bits of information across the planet every second was causing considerable gridlock on the infrastructure. The page youâre looking for has a âHome Fabrication Unit at the cost of your watchâ. The specifications define the unit as a low energy consuming one capable of generating its own material by scrubbing the local atmosphere off dust and other particles, thus gaining all the raw materials youâd require to entirely re-decorate your home. The unit would also accept any bits of scrap fed to it through the bio-processor, and use such scrap to gain manufacturing raw materials which were predefined carbon nanotubes, diamond spirals and silicon plates, all at the nano scale. And, included with the package is a starter kit of flexi-use nano-bots. The tiny robots could be programmed wirelessly through a hybrid computer like the one sitting on your desk to manufacture most articles for which designs could be generated. You smile to yourself and make a to-do note to download a few designs as a complete themed kit. You hit the order button and go to your kitchen to âdemandâ a cup of coffee from your food processing kitchen robo-maid. Your unit arrives in an hour. You enter your house plans into the design GUI application and download a most radical interior design from a home design website. You place the ânanobotâ package in place as your computer directs you, the Fabricator has a screen like unit that must be placed at the window for it to collect dust, smog particles and other pollution that most large cities around the world are full of. The nanobots will create more nanobots that will commence to fuse together to form strong, reliable, and comfortable aesthetic furniture. They would form walls, place electrical conduits, plumbing and take care of decorating; all according to plan. In three days, youâd be able to call your friends for your House warming party. Earlier that month, before youâd purchased the spacious condo, youâd visited the building site where construction was still underway. The supervisor had shown you how construction was undertaken. Not very dis-similar to your Home Fabrication Unit, the licensed builder was using a building fabricator produced by a consortium of Japanese, Chinese, American and Indian companies. The unit would excavate material from directly under the site, break the soil and material down to its atomic level with energy from its fusion reactor and process these with a nano particle fabricator. Upto 30 floors were constructed per day. The old city was now nearly abandoned, since accommodation was available for purchase with 6 months worth of savings. In the new city, all transport was underground, with gardens and parks covering all the topsoil. Eden was being created. Medicine: The day before yesterday, just before youâd moved to your new apartment, youâd gone to visit your general practitioner whoâd injected you with a syringe full of medi-bots. These little robots were the new rave since they could give an accurate picture of the internal organs, visually as well as through radio telemetered information to the large medical diagnostic computers. The medi-bots would scrub arteries and veins off cholesterol deposits, and be ready for any required operative procedures the next day during the visit to the GP. Following this, the medi-bots would be instructed to disintegrate in batches of 1000 at a time so as not to overload the kidneys, but would continue to perform cell repair procedures till the very last one became inoperable. 8. Hi.. a useful chat tool I've utilized on my website is the IrcQ WebBased Chat Panel.. its easy to use, you can locate and join rooms with ease.. you can create a room on a remote IRC server and invite people to it.. etc.. it's very versitile as a web-chat front end. The chat GUI supports : Multiple rooms Choices of IRC servers Choice of Alias The script to add the chat to your site through a HTML or PHP page is available at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ An example of the script in use is available on this page on my website http://kaputnik77.blogspot.com/ The one severe drawback is that Windows users who have not updated their OS or have not installed Java Runtime will be unable to access this feature, although by and large, most Windows updating happens automatically and you could always adda link to the Sun website allowing your users to install Java. Now however IrcQ Chat is available as a flash plugin too.. so its just paste your code and you're up and ready to hit the chat servers... Hope this helps .. all the best.. R.A.
  9. lol ... I think your poll's off on a pretty good start.. 1 point for each... The way I figure it is that WAV is good for very small files you want to transmit over the net (for example, onload of a browser).. however for quality sound I'd personally encode in MP3 .. you can dictate what rate of data the music should read at and 128kbps gives you near CD audio quality... but then, you'd have a problem playing Mp3 using an onload command for browsers... R.A
  10. Hey.. how do you go about connecting through proxy...?? That seems like something fun to do, infact if you could automatically redirect people visiting you at your website through a frame AND through a proxy.. you'd have a great service to provide.. (Websites that use google sponsored ads, note your IP and accordingly flash ads on the pages you visit. This happens on the fly and at times can be very intrusive) R.A.
  11. I learnt about WYSIWYG a few years back while I was working with a company called eDocuMAN where I was incharge of marketing the ZyLab suite of document management systems.. The software would require a server and a scanner/ or multiple scanners across different locations. When documents are scanned they are automatically or manually dropped into preset catagories, then the S/W runs a very advanced optical character recognision (OCR) engine that locates and extracts all the data on the scanned images. This it dumps into xml tagged text files. The application also maps each document to locate each word and letter. All this happens concurrently over various networks on either a single server or multiple servers. Then through a GUI , anyone either on the local system or even the internet/intranet (since the app. serves documents), can search for terms, phrases or single words and the program will locate documents with matching words and serve these up in the WYSIWYG format. So you end up seeing the original document with the relevant search words highlighted. I mainly visited various government bodies that generated large amounts of paperwork to see if we could work with them. Its also where I learnt that it isn't only with design that WYSIWYG comes in handy but with nearly any visual material handling apps. Since the eDocuMAN position, I've been interested in WYSIWYG software where design is backed up by coding within a GUI.
  12. Wow, I've known about TelNet for a while now, but never had the occasion to try it out... It would be very convenient to actually transfer data over the phone... also it would be a lot more secure when you're looking at avoiding the intense scans major intel-agencies use to see what you're up to.. All I can think of doing is passing along a few pictures or documents or even presentations... All this while I've used IM apps. to transfer files to friends. But like I said, where you'd want to avoid having people looking into your work, TelNet sounds like the best ticket. The drawback as I see it, is that most people have a slow dial-up modem that the TelNet facility will use. So, if one's got a large file to send to a friend, like the most recent videos of your pajama party, (which would no doubt be a large file; assuming a 1 hour party would notch up a good 300 GB compressed with DivX) then using your modem to send a file over a TelNet connection would take a bit of a while. Especially so if the connection is across a vast distance and more so if the data has to be transmitted through copper wire cables. The position with files now days tends for any transmittable data to be rather large. What I mean is that a conventional modem is just 'not' suitable for transfering the kind of data exchange most people carry out now days (I make a whole bunch of presentations, most of which are between 10 and 15 MB; and over a 512 KBPS line, it takes between 6 and 10 minutes for one file to transfer if I use e-mail and around 4 minutes if I'm using an IM or FTP). Laughable as it may sound, I've never used the modem on my computer and now I'm itching to try out the TelNet feature. I'll just 'have' to dig up someone to experiment with trying a few large and small file transfers.
  13. Yes, just like amkint says... go to your Admin section and change the forums you want 'anyone' to access to 'PUBLIC'. That way anyone dropping by may post replies.. R.A
  14. You need a driver update... AND you most likely require an update on your Windows.. What you may want to try and do is locate your driver.. you'll need the manufacturer's name and the product code, usually on the rear of the machine.. or.. once you have the unit plugged in and you're running Windows Do the following... START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS> SYSTEM INFORMATION In the SYSTEM INFORMATION screen, expand COMPONENTS and click on 'CDROM' this will give you details of the ROM's you have as well as the product ID use this ID to search for a driver.. just searching on google should get you the driver.. Here are a few sites to help you search for the driver you need... cdrom-drivers.com driverzone.com download.com Hope you find what you require.. Rashid
  15. Really liked the pictures.. :-) although I'm not all this creative with a camera, I'm all inspired to put up some of my pics through a gallery .. keep 'em coming.. :-) Thailand seems like quite an experience.. Rashid
  16. Hi.. I'm not too clear about what 'exactly' you're looking out for in resources for your project.. but, I've often used images managed by Corbis and find it a great place to track down images because of the way the images are managed... hope you like it.. Oh .. if you want to download any of the images, you'll need to register.. All the very best with the project work.. Rashid
  17. I suggest you use a table and place your iFrame in it.. works out much neater.. Also read this I'd posted earlier... http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?showtopi=kaputnik&st=10 I think you'll get the hang of it with one or two trys.. All the best.. Rashid
  18. Hiya.. personally, I'd go with soft felt (cloth) .. its what I've been using.. I run the cloth across the screen to get the dust off.. making sure I don't press on the screen .. just glide the cloth over, then wet and rinse the cloth till its just about 'damp', not wet but damp.. again rub the screen .. first all the sides towards the edges moving in a clockwise direction (or anti-clockwise if you preffer) and then from the edges to the center (that dislodges any particles sticking in the edges) and finally from left to right and from top to bottom.. to wrap it up.. use the dry edge of the cloth in a horizontal motion so the drying moistness doesn't leave any stains.. It seems like a lot to do but you'll get it all done well under a minute.. Remember.. this is how I do it and may not be the prescribed way, but I've had great results over the last 5 years or so through two notebooks. R.A
  19. I've got IIS (& run 2 websites on it... with a middle ware too... but that's just to make sure all's well with my scripts) the beauty of PHPTriad is that when you want to code and check your PHP work, you just need to go to START - programs > PHPTriad > Apache > Start Apache, Start My SQL and there.. you're up and running.. This package rides on IIS, so while you want to check your work, you run the Apache over windows and as soon as you're all done with.. Start>Programs>Apache>Stop Apache.. and you're back to running IIS and whatever webservers you've got on that.. Well it works for me anyhow, but I just shuttle between Apache and IIS to check my work before I upload anything... Cheers.. R.A.
  20. Hi there Chris... I hope you're ready for all this.. the first time I configured out my e-mail client, I actually chugged 6 mugs of coffee (means.. keep the coffee flowing...).. but that was a long while back.. and by the time you've done this thrice.. you'll be making out a tutorial ... :-) Here we go... I'll go screen wise.. I use outlook & have used netscape.. but you'll find most of the basic stuff is much the same.. I'll explain using outlook... Information you'll require to know before you hit the mail client... 1. Your Domain Name: either yoursite.com or if you have a subdomain on Xisto, then yoursite.astahost.com 2. your eMail address - this is the one you'd have created on cPanel... if you require an insight into how to go about creating this.. pm me and I'll get down to making out a note on it.. 3. The password you set for the eMail address eMail Client - Step by step 1. Open your outlook 2. after it has loaded, click on the 'Tools' tab, scroll down and 'select' - Email Accounts' 3. You'll get the 'Email Accounts' dialog box, Under 'Email' select the radio box - 'Add a new Email Account'; Click NEXT 4. You'll get the 'Server type' dialog box, Select 'POP3' ; Click NEXT 5. You'll get the 'EMail Settings' dialog box: 5.1 Under User Information Fill in the following 5.1.1 'Your Name': Fill in your name or your company name here 5.1.2 'email Address' : Fill in the e-mail address you created here 5.2 Under Server Information 5.2.1 'POP3': Fill in (depending on wether you have a domain or sub domain) - 'mail.yoursite.com' or mail.yoursite.astahost.com' 5.2.2 'SMTP': Fill in the same as you filled in for POP3 5.3 Under Logon Information 5.3.1 'user name': Fill in the email address you created 5.3.2 'password' : Fill in the password you set for the created email address 5.3.3 'Remember password' - check this box if you are using your own computer - never with a public computer 5.3.4 'Log On using secure password Authentication' : Uncheck this (leave it blank) 6. Click on 'Account Settings' (its very likely the settings will not all come by correctly the first 2 or three times.. don't worry) 7. Click the 'More Settings' button - this will open the 'Internet Email settings dialog box 8. Under the 'General' tab - Type in the Name (as you want to identify the email account eg. My Personal account ) in the Mail account tab 9. click the 'Advanced Tab' and uncheck (leave blank) the box saying 'leave a copy of messages on the server' (this will download your mail to your computer. Click OK 10. Click NEXT on the Internet Email settings Dialog box 11. Click FINISH There you go your account is ready for action.. there are more settings you may want to configure into your Outlook, for example the frequency with which you'd like your client to check for new e-mails, wether you'd like to ask for a return reciept by default, you'd want to set a default signature etc.. the more you play around with your client.. the more you'll learn about it... All the best.. Let me know how it goes.. R.A.
  21. Hi soleimanian, what I'd suggest for you is PHP Triad. PHP Triad is a combined package of Apache, PHP 4.1 (and over) and MySQL. You can download the package from here. When you run the package it will install the three units that you will need while scripting in PHP. After you install, you'll need to restart your system. In the start Menu you'll find, PHPTriad under My Programs. The folder will be created in C: drive (by default, unless you mention otherwise during installation) and the folder will simply be called apache. In it you will find the MySQL folder the various regular folders that you find in the apache suite, and you wil run all your php files out of the folder htdocs. After you install PHP Triad, and you restart your system, apache will automatically run on top of your windows platform. (I've been using this since the last three years with no side effects. NOW, before you begin running your PHP scripts, I suggest you manually start/ restart Apache by going to PHP Triad in Start> Programs> PHPTriad> Apache > Start Apache; next you will need to run the MySQL module in the same manner. once you have done this, open a browser and type in localhost... 22. Well cannibalism, as a course of human evolution is not a natural phenomena. Humans are naturally omnivores. Most omnivores under normal circumstances do not indulge in cannibalism. Take our near genetic cousins the chimps for example.. never has it been observed in wild or captured primates for one chimp to cannibalize another. There may be occasional killing another chimp due to factional rivalry or the alpha male going about kidnapping and killing newborn males (especially if they are offspring of dominant females), but definately no cannabilism. However, in pure carnivores, it is a common phenomena, for one carnivore to kill and eat another of its own species. Although this does not occur during their normal course of living, should there be scarecity of food, it has been known to occur. Also birds and reptiles are notorious where it comes to dishing on their own. By the time we get to the insect kingdom, all social responsibility breaks down when it comes to feeding time. This is especially true for spiders. Now the point I want to make is that since human beings are omnivores we do have a bit of the herbivore as well as a bit of the carnivore within us. When you see a cow or a deer licking its offspring clean off the plesenta, would you consider that cannibalism? Chicken, very very often, attack their own eggs, and consume the shells, and in the process all the contents of the eggs themselves. Is a chicken evil? We'll then come to the part where we'd ask ourselves, does cannibalism, to be taken as unusual and abominable behaviour, have to be performed by intellegent beings. We'd fall into a quandry where classifying an intellegent being would be in question. Would early man, with enough knowhow to make tools and arms be considered 'gross' if he/she were to cannibalize a fellow human? Would 'untouched by CIVILIZATION' pigmy tribes of untill mid last centuary, that routinely fought other pigmy tribes and then cannibalized them be considered sub-human. The answer is in the perception. Where you would have been brought up in an environment that abhors bloodshed, a fellow human may have been brought up to believe in absolute might through cannibalism. Such a person would not think twice about butchering a fellow and making pot roast with the trimmings with him/her. During WW2 german era, various experiments were conducted by renouned Nazi doctors, where captured infants were locked up and brought up amongst and as various animals. One such experiment was that consucted in bringing up a child as a pig. By the time the child was a teen, the mental structure was such that it not only behaved like a pig, ate like one, but also reacted like other pigs, when a fellow pig was taken and put to pot. A person will believe untill shown various options in the manner the person has been educated. Even the educated may revert to primevial behaviour - that of a carnivore on the look out for food where any creature - even its own species, is fair game. There is a famous story told by survivors of the Ship Medusa, which was shipwrecked; and 150 men and women built a large raft to escape in. The Raft was sturdy enough to support the people and even brought in a few last survivors to rescue. The morbid part relates that out of the 150, there remained but 15, the rest were victims of first starvation and later homicide followed by cannibalism.Which brings us back to the cannibal that butchered a little girl. The person most likely had a mix of various influences, his upbringing, educative inputs through television, books and first-hand action. As a grown-up these must have triggred a primitive outburst where norma perception of social respect and responsibility towards another human is replaced by survival instincts at its most primitive, all of this bolstered by the cumulative knowlage of all the years of education in various ways. I guess we'll always be guessing what went wrong....!!R.A.

  24. Hi there xtron... I just did some quick reading about your country's credit card usage stats. as well as issuing authorities comments... It seems that Romania has had a wave of credit card frauds over the last year which has caused a lot of merchant establishments to become weary of accepting the same.. About credit policy in India.. just a broad outline.. One has to be an ault of at least 18 years of age at the time of application for a credit card.. you can retain a credit card as an addon holder (where a parent or relative has the primary card and is responsible for paying your bills once you are over 12 years). To apply for a credit card, you will be required to furnish proof of having resided continously in a single address for a minimum of one year, permanant proof of identification (like your passport), You will have to show that you have maintained a positive balance in a bank through bank statements (which also show the address proof you submit), you need to show that you are an income tax accesee (with a minimum income of 75000INR per annum) by submitting your last income returns as well as proof of employment (in case you're a businessman, then the last year's balance sheet), copy of your permanant account number with the Income tax department. As soon as you have these documents, you'll ususally be issued a credit card within 5 days of application. The normal credit limit is 3 times your monthly limit with a 40% cash advance limit on the total credit amount. I do hope this gives you an insight into the credit card issuing policy in general within India to Indians. ALSO, another way to get a credit card in India is to make a fixed deposit in a bank of 100,000INR Or above and you'll be issued a credit card with a 60% of deposit value. Then again you still require the basic proof of residence as well as IT papers. I came across an interesting brief on credit cards in Romania.. Euroline Card Services which will issue credit cards to anyone with an income of 2,8 millions ROL. For more on this Visit their LINK Wish you all the best in your hunt for a card. R.A.
