Good Drawing In Photoshop
MajesticTreeFrog replied to Yoicks's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Do you mean vector drawing? You need the pen tool for that, it is located near the shape tools. I don't use it personally. I just use the paintbrush tool. It can give very good results: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ let me know which of these methods you are talking about and I will help you further -
Mainly people use windows because they are too lazy to bother with anything else. It takes effort to switch OS's. That being said, windows is still bad. Its just not so bad that users consider it worth switching to something else.My biggest issues always were:1. having to continually defragment the hard drive. We have filesystems that dont have this problem, but for some reason MS doesn't use them.2. Lack of 'usefull' features. For instance, how about a usefull help system, that actually helps, for a change. Or a good default file/image viewer? Or something better than MS paint for image editing without having to shell out more money. How about an intelligent search tool that can use meta-data? Or, better yet, system wide services like universal spell check, and so on.I mean, they are asking people to pay for this thing. They *Finally* put in a firewall, but it comes badly configured so I understand.I wonder if they ever did a good job implementing protected memory, things still seem capable of crashing in sequence......

Dna a topic about genetics
MajesticTreeFrog replied to palestranger's topic in Science and Technology
The testimonials are indeed 100% fake. So, to go back to the subject of the j-dna. J-DNA, while it doesn't code for anything, if removed from the DNA sequence results in death. It appears to be necessary, but scientists are not sure what for. From what I remember from my courses in genetics and biology, the current hypothesis is that they hold data from prior mutations. This way, a species has access to faster mutations(requires fewer generations for strong evolutionary change). If this is true, then it would be a feather in the cap so to speak for punctuated equilibrium(an alternate theory to natural selection for large scale species change and process by which evolution occurs). -

Most of the people in Sri Lanka, Burma, and Thailand, as well as some of the other countries are Buddist, so are there any Buddist based relief funds? It feels more appropriate. -
Here You Can Find Free, Legal Mp3 Files
MajesticTreeFrog replied to wonbin's topic in General Discussion
Those sites are nice, and I am glad you told me about them, but the place I go for my mp3s is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is a pay site, but songs are a penny a megabyte, for any format+bitrate you want with NO DRM. Also, the downloads are fast, and they have just about anything you could ever want. Finally, if you want to go REALLY underground(as in the opposite of the above site), then go to https://www.scene.org/ There are a ton of different band and demo groups on there. If you like techo(chillout), hunt around and listen to some Bliss, you won't be sorry. -
New Reputation Thing What do you all think?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to Darren1405241470's topic in Web Hosting Support
It is true that there haven't been any demeaning posts so far, but I think that might be just a matter of time. But then again I might just be pessimistic.I don't so much care about 'fly by' posters, provided that they are just off topic. What I don't like are posts that I don't think have any worth at a more innate level, though this definition is highly subjective. On the other hand, I have a harder time deciding what should deserve a positive rep point. -
New Reputation Thing What do you all think?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to Darren1405241470's topic in Web Hosting Support
The difference between censure and criticism is formality. Censure is basically criticism that is expressed in a formal manner, usually by a group. That light nitpicking out of the way, points shouldn't be taken away because of disagreement, but instead for things that are:1. Continually trite, while at the same time not posting anything of depth elsewhere.2. Outrigth demeaning, or directly insulting. Particularly if that is all a post or series of posts is.Remember, we aren't so much moderating the individual posts, but instead the overall quality of the poster, despite the fact that the control makes it look that way. Therefore, I see the rep thing as something to be used for individual posts only in extreme circumstances. Instead, when a person continually posts junk, thats when rep should come into play. -
Google Dominance Is Google getting too big?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to OpaQue's topic in Search Engines
the problem is that in the computer market, once you have a dominant hand, you have an easier time holding on than others have in assailing your position. Why? because of lock in. For instance, if you think that linux, as an OS, is better than windows(and for the sake of argument, pretend that this is true whatever your actual view), then you would want to switch. However, as the dominant OS, all software is written primarily for windows, making it hard to switch to the better underlying OS that is linux(or, mac for that matter). Thus, software ALWAYS heads towards a monopoly, or at best an sort of plutocracy. The answer to this is to make all API's be required by law to be open(as in no cost/license) and fully documented as well as standardized. -
I know, it is sad isn't it when other countries get better news about our country than we do.

New Reputation Thing What do you all think?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to Darren1405241470's topic in Web Hosting Support
I hadn't thought about the idea of only allowing people to affect others rep after getting rep themselves. I think hybrid would be best. No reping till at least 40 posts or 10/20 posts and a positive rep.(PS: pbuldoc: you still have no clue what you are talking about, so hah! ) (PPS: for those with no sense of humor, that was a joke!) -
well, its not about having him admit his mistakes, that will never happen. Its about having problems mount to the point that a majority of americans realize that for themselves. Granted, he will always have appologists, but thats not the point.

Flash Or Java Which is Better Flash or Java?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to arunkumarhg's topic in Programming
my understanding is that java is more for scripting and such, as well as outright programming, whereas flash handles more graphics animation and such. The two do indeed cross paths, but their true domains are rather seperate. That is, unless flash does a bunch of stuff I don't know about. -
