What I don't get is why exactly people still bother with overclocking. You can't overclock new processors to the same degree as old ones(in terms of percent increase in performance), and you don't usually even NEED the performance these days with how fast things are. The better thing to overclock is usually your vid card. AMD's are considered better for overclocking because clock for clock they have more performance(ie, a 10mhz improvement in a AMD is worth a lot more than 10mhz on a p4). I usually vote AMD on this, because they are cheaper for the same performance, and now they have the 64 bit processors whereas Intel is still sitting behind in 32bit land(but they are still behind the G5 in terms of getting to 64bit.....) For price/performance it is still AMD.

I am not sure if your 50/50 thing is even correct, but it certainly is an overly broad generalization. Your eye color is not experience, nor are things like the ease with which you can gain muscle(though how much you DO gain is experience). And so on and so forth. Also, it is very possible to tell what is experience and what is genetic and how much of what is which(get that?). It just takes effort and carefull controls, not to mention time and replication. But that is what science is for. As for marriage, what if two buddhists get married? They certainly aren't getting married in the sense that catholics would like/be used to, nor would atheists(used in the sense of having no religion at instead of non-theism). However, both of these groups(as in myself and everyone in my family) is allowed to marry, have it called marriage, and have it treated as such by law. It seems strange to me that gay people are not allowed to marry because it disturbes a religious concept of the term, while people who are ACTIVELY counter to the very religion itself are allowed to marry. On a different note, do not reply to your own posts before someone has responded, edit your post instead. You have been warned.......

The Meaning Of Life An philosophy discussion
MajesticTreeFrog replied to hast-webben's topic in General Discussion
Or it could be a defense mechanism: When hurt, seek shelter so that you aren't easy prey for predators. An animal may be sick and think its dying, but may not be(there are plenty of non-fatal temporary diseases out there). It only makes sense as a universal reaction to being wounded/sick etc. to minimize the chance of death or further injury. -
The Best Operating System

I am closing this topic. It has gone on a long time but I don't think much new is being said. If people want to talk about specifics they can always start new threads. -
Web Browsers Which Browser type do u prefer?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to hast-webben's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Actually, that is not Firefox's fault. It is the fault of IE having lots of bugs and then people writing for IE's bugs and therefore writing wrong code that doesn't work on anything else. That being said, these days I rarely find a site that doesn't work on firefox. -
You are mostly right about buddhism. Buddhists have killed, and have even killed other buddhists, just not over or for buddhism. In fact, the two great buddhist 'conflicts' involve a bunch of monks yelling at each other, realize they are being silly to care so much about doctrine, and then apologizing and leaving. That is not to say the history is totally clean, however. Japanese buddhists in world war 2 corrupted zen doctrines to say that if you killed in a state of 'no mind' then you did not accrue negative karma. This didn't make killing 'ok' or even 'good' simply 'not relevant one way or another spiritually'. Even this took work, taking carefull corruption of doctrine as well as references to non-cannonical works (and would have been impossible using other sects' philosophies). After the war, one of the two zen sects admitted they were wrong and the monks involved stepped down. The other is sort of living out the shame. Indeed, every time there has been an attempted 'justification' put forward to doing something normally wrong using scripture, it comes from 'non cannon' scripture(as in scripture not from the time of the buddha). That people know that the scripture is not real doesn't keep them from trying to ignore that fact. Still, those attempted justifications usually stay just that, "attempted". This history is one of the reasons I am buddhist.

Ms Blocking Of Wine Users.. Is It Legal !?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to qwijibow's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Chances are, if this BS is like other similar things involving updates in the past, you can still download them manually from MS's website. This is a real pain though, which is why they are doing things like this. However, this is definitely anti-trust worthy. -
Mac / Windows: Whats The Best ?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to kc8yff's topic in Websites and Web Designing
well, It took a bit of poking around. Some things are in very different places. But it was very fast. What makes the Mac so user friendly is that settings and such are in the same(logical) place for every program. So, where settings are is always the same. Keyboard shortcuts are always the same, etc etc... So, once you have found a few things, you know where basically everything is. The other thing you have to do is 'free your mind'. A lot of times i would be trying to figure out how to do something, and be thinking in windows terms. So, I would be hunting for some setting or dialogue box, when all I really needed to do is say, drag and drop, or some other totally intuitive operation if I hadn't been brainwashed by windows. After a bit of this, you like Mac FAR more than windows. I am writing this on my mac laptop instead of sitting in my big comfy chair in front of my windows desktop.Overall, the Mac is VERY easy to get adjusted to. Heck, I have been using windows for years, and there are some things I know how to do on the mac better in 3 months than on windows(though I am sure there are situations where the opposite is true). The other thing that makes the mac very easy is the excellent help system that is built in. Unlike windows, using help can really teach you how to deal with the system. Its one of the ways I learned. -
Hmm, I have had this problem before and I am not really sure what causes it. First, make sure that all three computers have any firewall software shut off. Windows sharing is easily killed by firewalls, even if you tell the firewall not to(tis a fragile protocol...) Then, go to a command prompt and type 'ipconfig' on each computer to make sure they are all on the same subnet. They should be, but sometimes the router does strange things. That is the other thing, make sure that your router/switch/hub is set to allow them to all see each other. Finally, it may just not work. Even microsoft doesn't appear to fully know how to get windows shares to work. There are work arounds though.

Mac / Windows: Whats The Best ?

Then a mac will suit you perfectly. There are also plenty of emulators for the mac so that you can play older console games like those on the super nintendo and such. -
Ape To Man Do you really believe???

Mac / Windows: Whats The Best ?

Word processor: you can use appleworks, but it is outdated. You can buy MS Word, if you want, but it costs money. You can get NeoOffice J, which is good, and open source, and free. You can also get pages, which is sorta half word processor half layout. For most people it provides a good mix(though it could use a few more advanced word processing features). I use word, cause I have it. However, I think I will be using NeoOffice more and more now that I actually bothered to download it. It seems faster than word. Video editor: iDVD/iMovie. They work and come with all macs these days. If you spend 100 (only this price when buying the mac, otherwise 300), you can get Final Cut Express, which is a professional level video editor. I edit video for my day job, and if I am lucky, I get to use this program or its big brother(final cut pro). POP3 client: Mail. This is part of OSX. Its easily the best email client I have ever used. By a LOT. Every mail client should work this well. Nice net browser: Safari, Opera, Firefox. All very very good. I use firefox just cause its what I am used to. I may switch to Safari when verion 2 comes out with OSX 10.4 Chat client: Fire or Adium. Both fantastic, I use fire. Both are free As for games, the mini(along with every other 500 computer) isn't for gaming. Really, if you want to do a lot of gaming (as opposed to being productive), don't get a mac. Or at least, be willing to plunk down the cash for a much more expensive powermac. Mac users in general care about getting work done, and not dealing with BS, rather than gaming. So, if you are a very light gamer, it might work. If gaming is a big deal, either get a console and a mac(if that works for you) or get a PC and deal with the BS that comes with it. -
Div Tags Vs Tables For Layout what should I use?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to nykademis's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Its more a question of convenience. With Div tags and CSS, you can write the CSS once and then never worry about the styling of your site again, and then spend your time entirely on content. With tables, you have to redo things every time content changes significantly(in certain ways). In this way CSS is much more efficient. -

CompUSA carries Mac software. Also, there are Apple stores all over the country(world) now and they have a fantastic selection of software you can buy. -
Mac / Windows: Whats The Best ?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to kc8yff's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Mac is the answer to both questions for me. After I bought my ibook, which is what I am writing this on, I rarely used my much more powerful desktop anymore. I just didn't want or need to. That being said, any computer you get, make sure to put in at least 512 MB RAM. OSX needs this much, and apple is being silly selling things stock with only 256. The other thing you should take into account is software. What do you need to do with your computer? Let me know, and I will make sure there is software that does it(cheaply) on the mac. -
Really here, newegg.com is your friend. Another place to go is http://www.pricewatch.com/ Or you can use froogle. It helps to buy from one place if prices are similar because you usually get better shipping charges. Also, whatever you do, don' buy cheap RAM. If you get a bad ram stick, your system will be useless. You may also want to consider getting a new HD, and toning down the other components a bit. You can probably find a 100gb disk for ~80 bucks these days.

Mac / Windows: Whats The Best ?
MajesticTreeFrog replied to kc8yff's topic in Websites and Web Designing
That would be me. I used PCs for most of my life, then got a mac. But, I still have to use PCs at work. That said, you didn't ask what you needed to know about the platforms, so let me know and I will tell you all that I can. -
Ok Linux People, You Win.
MajesticTreeFrog replied to musichere's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Actually, I think ubuntu is a better choice to begin with. They make a big deal out of useabililty, so they should be more user friendly than Mandrake, if not now, then in short order. Also, you get the advantage of apt-get as well as the very nice, friendly and active ubuntu support people who will be happy to answer your questions. -
Not true, the country with that law is ruled by fundamentalist, "WAHABISM" muslims, that I mentioned in my above post. Before the renaissance in Europe, most of the science and learning in the world was done in the middle east by muslims. Islam does not have to be crazy psycho. That being said, I agree that right now, crazy psycho islam seems to be all the rage. I just want people to realize that it wasn't always like that, nor does it have to be in the future.

Cannibalism crunch time, holmes
MajesticTreeFrog replied to l337 Nurse Pedestrian's topic in General Discussion
Just curious...but is there any reason why eating a person should be less moral than eating an animal?(assuming you didn't kill the person/they died of natural causes). I ask this for discussion, not because I necessarily condone the practice. -
Please know that not everyone in the west consideres 'islam' to be the threat. We try to distinguish by saying 'radical islam', meaning the form that considers everyone a threat and is very violent(such as wahabism). What you can do is let people know that you are a muslim, but lead your life in a way that is an shining example of what islam can be. People will take notice, and attitudes will change(slowly). Also, speak out about the actions of the terrible leaders in the middle east. They are the ones who are giving you such a bad name.

Yes, it is almost as good as ad-aware, but it gets some that adaware doesn't The same can be said of microsoft anti-spyware.
