( it's one word idiot , geforce ) to compare any card take a card from a same generation and compare it to the same generation by the other companyie The Radeon 9xxx series VS the Geforce FX seriesThe Radeon Xseries Vs The Geforce 6xxx seriesThe Radeon X1xxx ( R250 ) series VS the Geforce 7xxx series I personaly never owned an ATi but from the benchmark I saw my Little Geforce 6600 128 DDR ( Not gt ) beats almost all ATi radeons up till the x700 . and it costs arround $112 .another alternative for low cost would be the Radeon X300 or The Geforce 6200 ( avoid the turbo cache one tho ) .and AVOID ANYTHING WITH LE / SE / VE on it , from both ( nvidia and ati ) and AVOID 64bit cards ( get 128 bit or 256 only ) one more note , don't focus on the amount of memory it got ie getting a 256 Geforce FX5200 for example IS NOT BETTER than a 128 Geforce 6200 or even a FX 5600good vendors : BFG - eVGA - XFX - Msi - Leadtek - Gigabyte - ASSUS

I am in the same thing as well , but my major is Architecture , BUT I was looking for something TO SPEED UP MY RENDERING TIME for my 3D models , but I learned later that that graphics card has nothing to do with the RENDER SPEED , it's the processor and rams that will differ . so I gave up the idea .anyways these lines of graphics card will help you work MORE SMOOTHLY AND FASTER in very complicated CAD scenes .These cards are designed by the same companies that DESIGN the gaming graphics card ie Nvidia and ATi , as well as Matrox .Nvidias product line for ur request are called QuadroATis FireGL you can get a Quadro ( not the latest however ) for arround $450 if you FROOGLED for it ( FROOGLE.com , same as google yet for shopping ).I am not experienced with the FireGL from ATi . hope I helped a bit !

hey Unimatrix Thanks for the excellent feedback , I don't really need any more POWER in viewing and navigating into viewports and max itself , I need more power RENDERING .I don't use my PC at the office , they are running on P4 3.0 ~ 3.2 ghz 32bits ... with 2 GB os ram or just 1 .But still they take an awfull long time to render ... I am thinking of Dual Prcoessors and such .I agree about the whole SUPPORT thing , yes I loved the idea of AMD in the begining because of the ANTI-intel thing and to be honest the price , amd systems seems to be at least a bit cheaper than intels but you passed something really serious uni , BENCHMARKs ... on benchmarks , AMD 64 really does shine , for example my 2.01 ghz processor code named ( 3000+ ) is about 10% faster than a PV 3.0 and a PIV 3.2 and in some cases , faster than the extreme edition as well.. which costs almost 3x the price of my processor , not to mention that the 3.0-3.2 are still more expensive than mine .as for the whole 64bit < well I didnt buy it and I knew it's not going to differ any much , but I wanted a new AMD processor , and since they are all 64 equipped unlike INTEL ( yet , I know there are 64 intels now )sO I didn't mind the extra 32bit .I've even installed Windows XP x64 , but I really didn't see any diffrence in performance ... at least to me or the usual everydays programmes even games showed similar scorse ... 3dmark and nBench showed much better results ,but I don't really care .I went back to 32 bit when I found some of my beloved application didn't really work as well as some hardware issues with creative sound cards ..I have nothing against intel or amd , infact my previous PCs were always intel ... 386 - 486 - Pentium 100mhz - Pentium 3 1.0 ghz but I always wanted to try AMD , and I got the chance too and honsetly My pc now is almost 1 year old , I NEVER faced a Heat propblem ( processor idle temp. 34 c --- max i ever saw was 68 c ) the PIV at the office reaches 83 and more even when the A/C is on .so I am enjoying my experience with AMD so far , the only thing I hate is that after one month of my purchase ,they produced the socket 954 AMD64s lines and they gave away a half life 2 silver copy with it ! hehethanks again for your time and information

AT Kam ,Sorry for the delayed reply , anyways to be honest I've NOT run specific benchmarks or coded anything , I just compared two systems rendering the same scene , While I know this is not a FAIR benchmark yet It was the only thing avaialble to me at my office .My office( the office I work at ) is strictly an Architectural One , when I first came to it , it was really outdated , using versions of 3D Studio 4 ( DOS ) and Autocad 14 !! ( which I can't really tell how much dozens of years old are they , I am just 22 ) .anyways for me I am Using 3Ds Max 7.5 and Vray 1.46 Advanced , so typicaly when I showed some of my works to my boss , he was convinced he needs an update ( I know I kept laughing for days ) .anyways he let me be the technical advisor for upgrading and buying 12 diffrent PCs .However the price budget wasn't very UNLIMITED so the choice of getting branded pcs or workstations etc etc were close to NONE .so before I go buy everything I wanted , I wanted to make sure what's gonna be suitable for CHEAP rendering machines , ie we don't render really high quality stuff , IE using the MAXs built in scanline renders for some architectural models walkthroughs , it the time consumption that really pissed me off ,, ie for a not so very detailed scenes ... say 15 high quality villas in a semi populated small area ... takes 2 -3 days to render 1200 frames . So the first system I bought was a Pentium IV 3.0 ghz ( LGA , I think, I am not very experinced with INTEL models ) . 2048 MB Of rams ( kingston value ones ) Geforce 6200 256 DDR ( not gt ) etc etcThe 2nd one was almost identical to my pc ( PIV 3.0 ghz - 1024 Rams -660 256 PCI-E) so I ran 3 test scenes on my pc again : AMD ATHLON 64 3000+1024 DDR Ram (Kingstone ) DDR400Geforce 6600 256 DDR AGP 8Xfirst some simple renders , really didn't show any diffrence ... they were 0.001 seconds diffrences .now for some advanced lightning test , that INTEL system used to finish faster by a mere 5 - 12 seconds in each scene .Altho I know my AMD is running at 2.01 while the intel one running at 3.0ghz , but I expcted more ... IE from looking at bechmarks .. the Athlon 64 3000+ beats even the PIV 3.2 in many applications .this might be why I think INTELs are faster for rendering , like I said it's not really a profisional benchmark or even an amatuer one , it's just a simple test .I would like to see how I could reach that speed without OCing as I heard there are some Few AMD patches for rendering applications one more thing since your into raytracing and renderings , I would like to ask what would mainly decrease my rendering time ?a decent Processor ? or a HIGH end gfx card such as the Quadro or the FireGL series ?since a few of my friends told me that a high end graphics card would only matter in viewports not in the final render , is that true ?thanks .

Well if you go the Tomshardware.com forums/community , almost all ppl will flame the hell out of INTEL and advice you with an AMDbut since they are almost all GAMERS .. it's normal they tell u so since AMDs really shows more FPS / Performance in GAMES . I personaly own AN AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and a 3000+It's very very good .but As times go by you realize the fact .. for me as a gamer and 3d modeller . AMD is perfect for gaming rigs however for renderings and office work , Intel shows to be better in benchmarks .so scale your needs and see whats the right one for you, in the end it's not going to be A FATAL performance increase or decrease .....

( go the website )so you either did download an illegal version or you're totaly stupidas for anyone intrested in the game , EA just makes anyhting puts fifa on it and sells it as EA fifa 2006 and expect anyone will buysure it's better than previosus ones but it's more of an UPDATE to fifa 2005 not a sequel .graphics still the same , ppl looking at next gen gaming and they are still using 2D FLATS in their game . not to mention FAKE SCREENSHOTSgo the fifa06 website and see the depth of field / motion blurr and pixel shaders effects on the screenshotsapparently they turned out to be FAKE , ie retouched screenshots , cuz the game doesn't support pixel shaders and does not produce any of these effects ,tho they did not claim it does, but still ENHANCING the screenshots to convince ppl that its got better is totaly toally UNACCEPTABLE especialy in the case of a large game comapy such as EA .they just spend millions on NBA , NFL and this MAADEN crap and when it comes to fifa ... hey just release what u got ..damn ea ... damn them

3Ds Max is the standard 3D modelling package , yet not the perfect one , So by first taking charge of 3Ds max ( autodesk 3ds max 8 ) insted of Discreet then this move , which will benfiet MAX alot .

well it's design that i got and CODE that I lack , there's lotsa bugs with this one but It's old ( 2003 ) Another sample would be 1337player.com , I know it's not the same quality . but it's simpler and easier to navigate .Thanks for ur comments fellas

well I always been a great supporter of freeware software to the extent that I always find a freeware replacement for a commcerical one I am already using . but so far nothing can replace these : Paint Shop Pro 9 / Paint Shop Pro X ( 10 ) 3DS Max 7.5 Autocad 2006 seriously , I've tried everything else ... yes they might be GOOD but not even close , and plz dont even start recommending that GIMP thing , It's very good indeed , but I would replace MS paint with it not my Paint Shop . Same idea for MAX , there's dozens of freeware modelers out there , yet none of them is even 1/10000 close to max CAD software .. the standard since I was born ,.. Autocad ! btw here's good cool video player alternative . it's minimalist in size ( 200kb ) I helped design the graphics and the website http://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=1337player&e=com ( this is not spam , it's afreeware product )

heloo everyone , I am about to buy a new PC ( in a day or two ) which consists of :a PIV 3.2 Ghz 1 mb CACHE ASUS P4P800 Deluxe, Intel i865PE chipset512 Spectec DDR ( x2 256 ) not sure of the speed yet80 GB HD with 8 MB cacheSony CD-RW (52x-32x-52x)An Old but good 19" DELL black monitor SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 ( already owned )Anyways I like to think of myself as a gamer , although I dont afford to buy GAMERS hardware ... I can't REDUCE/IMPROVE any of the above feature as they are a part of s special promotion here in my city , ( cairo , egypt ) the only thing that I can chose is the monitor and the Graphcis card ...here comes my confusion !i don't have lotsa money left .. and i mean i need a gfx card that is in the range of $70 - 90 and CAN run modern games ( HL2 / UT2004 / FarCry .. )on my mind and on the market there's only the following cards that suits my budget :ATi :ATi Radeon 9000 PROATi Radeon 9200 128 ATi Radeon 9250 128Nvidia :Geforce FX5200 after reading many many many THG and other articles ... I got more confused ..the whole ATI list i mentioned above are DX8.1 cards .. that has similar clock/memory speeds .. although the older Radeon9000 is the fastest in the Above list ( ATi/Nvidia ) it's kinda oldon the other hand , the GeforceFX5200 ( not ultra ) might be the slowest card on this list but it's using DX9.0 and PS 2.0 which are mostly used in nowadays games so I was thinking ..If i got a Radeon 9000 PRO / 9200 for better speeds with less features should be better than better features and lower speeds right ?Considering that I can upgrade the graphics card in A period of 2-3 months .. Should I go with an ATi Radeon 9200 or a 9000PRO or the Nvidia way ?I currently OWn a P3 1.0ghz PC with a Geforce 2 MX 32SDR wich allowed me to play almost all games till Doom3/FarCry showed ... I even finished HL2 on it . so I believe in low-end cards .. really besides I won't be turning the res over 800x600 or 1024x768 , nor touching FSAA .what do you think ? please help .. as this would directly affect my purchasing ....
